Because a pinkie promise isn't just words, it also a movement in which you actually touch the person who you're promising. Kinda like a handshake. Also it's just a family thing and it helps.

I'm not saying that I think it's the best show ever, I just got hooked on it. I also got attachted to a character who was killed and was repeatedly brought back up by her father, when they had to let her body go in order to survive, and yeah. Petra Ral is the char's name.
