Haruhi Suzumori - Kirigakure Genin - Somewhere not in the Mist

Summary: Haruhi looks back on her one on one time with Rika and thinks on the impact the woman has had on her life. It is larger than she will ever admit to anyone.

It was odd how a place that was filled with tremendous amounts of life... could be so silent.

Alone in a forest is where Haruhi sat and waited on her sensei's return. Odd as it sounded, there were some things going on with Mika that the woman had not yet made Haru aware of, and thus the two of them were constanty on the move. She had been instructed to hide and wait for Hayashi-sensei's return, and though she had been gone longer than usual, the small genin didn't worry. In fact, as she sat, concealed beneath a thick stretch of bushes, the girl was almost falling asleep.

It had grown dark and still Mika haden't returned. Haruhi slept and then awoke in the morning, but still there was no sign of her sensei anywhere. She didn't dare get up and try to move. When Mika had left, she made it very clear that if Haruhi was found, bad things would happen. She had promised she would return, and so Haru waited.

It was impossible for her mind not to wander. The silence would have driven her mad if not for the ranting of random things in her head. Even Gobi was silent all this time. Haruhi never thought she would actually wish her beast would suck her in and have a conversation. It was even kind of odd that its presence seemed faint, as if she too was hiding from something.

It was during the time her mind was wandering that she randomly began to think about her goals and people who were important to her. People who she felt that changed her life just by meeting them. The image of her Mizukage flashed in her mind and she frowned. Thats right, Rika did have an impact on Haruhi. Even though she'd never admit it to anyone, there was already a place in her heart that had formed a bond with the woman. Thin and fragile as it was, it was still there, and it would be for as long as the girl lived.

Haruhi sighed as her memories ended there. Unfortunately, upon the two of them having ended up needing to do some things that were priority, they didn't have a second chance to meet after that. Though Haruhi had never forgotten anything Rika had told her to do. The way she walked now was no longer the straight rigid way she did before, but the way she was taught. She didn't even have to think about it now. Times like this were she was alone with her eyes closed, lost in thought, she would simply breathe and achieve a calm she usually never did. Instead of focusing on the brute strength she didn't even have, she used her agility when training and conserved as much chakra as she could.

And there was something else she did now every day...

Moving silently, Haruhi would retrieve a scroll from her hip pouch and silently undo the seal. A cloud of smoke would appear and when it cleared, a small flower pot with a single thin plant would be revealed. It was thin like a blade of grass with two tiny leaves coming from the top. It was as deep a green as the eyes Haruhi used to look at it with, and it brought a smile to her face.

This plant is going to be the start of my own garden one day. she thought as she also retrieved a small water container. After taking a long drink, she would pour the rest of the water over the plant before leaning back and letting out a sigh.

"Hey Gobi-nee... you can hear me right?" she paused as though she would actually get an answer, but she knew she wouldn't like all the other times. "Did I tell you about my garden i'm going to have one day? It'll be so big, even you will be able to go there.... that is if we figure out a way to free you without killing me..." she paused. "It's not just going to be for us though. I'll put it somewhere everyone in the world can go. Not just in Kiri or something. Maybe an island that every nation is free to visit. It'll be a place where people can come together and form bonds. I think a place like that... will be so good for the world."

She yawned then as she began to grow tierd of talking to herself. "Your so quiet... You also think im naive too don't you? Is it really so silly to think there could actually be a place... where people from all walks of life can go and be at peace among one another? I think its possible. So... I'll add that to my list of things to fight for."

Eiji Emiya

How they managed to survive for a whole week with all those strangers in twon Eiji didn't exactly know. Nor how nothing really seriously hadn't happened. There had only been one reported death and as far as Eiji saw it, that was pretty darn good. It wasn't easy to keep the peace with all those nations in one place, but it was doable. The Kages kept mostly to themselves and the people were generally nice. Everything seemed to go well.

Today was the second round of the matches, which Eiji wasn't very interested in watching. Kuni was no longer fighting, though she was supporting her former enemy. A strange friendship had formed, one that reminded Eiji slightly of his own fight with Hiron and the sort of bound that that had created. He wondered if Hiron was around. He hadn't encountered the man, but then again he hadn't encountered a lot of people. He was sure that Aiko would be here and that here students would be fighting, but no words had gone between them yet. Something Eiji pitied.

But he had other things to do. He had to keep the Chuunin Exams up and running and at the same time learn more about his new student. He didn't want to leave him alone or unattended, almost afraid he would lose him again. So many students had disappeared from his squad, he didn't want that to happen all over again. Hence why today he let Kuni run free and instead turned to the Uchiha, who he had summoned to be at the arena today. Sachi was home. Eiji didn't want her to run off again and the nanny no longer had a day off.

"So," he said to Ryuu when the boy had arrived. "Couple of options today. Remember you only have those options because of all the festivities around Ame this week. Next week it will all be strict training. But for now. We can watch the matches, figure out how some of the people from other countries fight. Or we can turn it into some sort of training? What do you say?"

Daiki Shun,
Kirigakure Chuunin,

Taking it calm and planning.

Walking down the street, Daiki threw glances around. There were enough people who were still helping rebuilding Kirigakure. The damage that had be done by the Six Tails was going to take some time to be prepared. But if that wasn't enough, the spreading rumours that the unrest was continue to grow started to cause people to grew even more cautious than they were before. Dressed in a more casual gear, Daiki wondered briefly how this period would end. There were some scenario's running through his mind, but each one had something he disliked and liked. Though another was one he completely disliked. He didn't want to be dead and that scenario was always a possibility.

Sighing, Daiki was heading towards his dorm. Luckily it had been spared from the destructive rampage of the beast. On his way, he noticed somebody slipping a letter in. Who would send him a letter? He wondered and first he thought of Takeshi. Then again, knowing his older sibling, Daiki doubted it. Not that it was impossible, but he wasn't counting on any letter or news about his older brother. After he had entered his home and closed the door behind him, Daiki saw the letter on the floor. For some reason it had an ominous feeling to it. An omen of bad news perhaps? Perhaps news about Takeshi? Narrowing his eyes, Daiki leaned forward to pick up the letter.

I need to know the status.

The code was easy, yet good hidden. Only a very paranoia mind would see the hidden simple order in the letter. Daiki wasn't sure about it, but the first words of the letter seemed like an order. And only one person would send him around this time a letter to do what was needed to be done. What a drag.
After Daiki had destroyed the letter, he thought about what was needed to be done. Of course writing a letter back, but he would need to get into action too. If not, then the chance on success would diminish. Yet, he could get away with it and staying alive. That was a plus at least. Deciding to go for another walk as he could think better while he was walking, Daiki headed out of his dorm. Closing and locking the door behind him, he started to think about the next potential step he had to take.

Standing still, Daiki looked at a ruined building. There were some odd marks and he wasn't first sure what it was. It didn't had the same look as if it was burned down by fire. Probably one of those chemical attacks of the tailed beast, Daiki figured. Staying at least a meter away, as he wasn't sure if it was safe to get close, Daiki wondered how long the repairs were going to take. And why wasn't there somebody who had rosen up to lead the defense when the beast had attacked? Daiki remembered a conversation he had in the past and realized for what he was working for. Shaking his head lightly, he turned away to continue walking. ''Poor dumb fools.'' He muttered to nobody in particular. With his left hand in the pocket of his jacket, he scratched his temple while he tried to figure out a place to eat. Perhaps he could plan his move once he had eaten something. Perhaps a rice bowl with some warm vegetables and meat would help?

Gyuki,
The Hachibi, Midori's Tummy Monster.

The beast had been more or less silent. He had noticed the emotions of Midori and managed to brace himself for the wave that was to come. Like an imaginary tidal wave, he braced himself for the anger, sorrow and depression that would hit him. Gritting his teeth, he felt bad for his host. No, for his best current friend and partner. Opening his eyes half open, he remembered how he had told her that he didn't like Deidara. Nothing had changed. He still thought of Midori's friend as a lousy good for nothing. Gyuki's nostrils widened, but not snort came.

Laying on his stomach, his head resting on his arms, the beast managed to stay calm. While he had listened to Midori's outburst to the ANBU, he was on the edge. Not to make sure that if she would burst out of emotions that she would have enough supportive chakra to make it clear that she was upset. No, he would most likely attempt to stop her. Even if he had to take over her body with force.

But with the passing days, he saw no need to step in to make sure that she wouldn't burst out. While he wasn't feeling comfortable, he was happy. Midori had managed to keep herself together and not withdrawn herself in silence. No matter how Gyuki was convinced that Midori had grown and progressed to not let that happen, there was always that little doubt that she would fall back in such a state. Suddenly Midori would hear a loud snort. Words wouldn't follow, but she would feel something. Slightly Gyuki would let some of his very own chakra enter her system. Nothing too special, but it was a simple gesture. He would watch her and be there, even if she would feel alone. Closing his eyes, the beast continued to his so far peaceful watch.

Rika Suzu

Fifth Mizukage,
Anger and bitterness.

She marched towards the door. Her eyes were mere than slits as she wouldn't care who was on her way. Her ANBU guard managed to keep up with her, but were still holding a healthy and somewhat safe distance from the small woman. It was more the evidently clear that the woman was upset. And those who had heard the scream knew that something grave was amiss. Rika had been calm, polite and quite friendly. Nothing strange as she wanted to give the idea she was the small miss friendly towards the other kages. But those despicable scum had done the unthinkable.

Just a hour ago, Rika had received the news from Kirigakure's condition. On what had transpired. And about the civil unrest. The news didn't stop there, but the ANBU that were set on the order to keep an eye on Mika and Haruhi had reported that the annoying bitch had moved underneath the radar. For almost a complete hour Rika had been in the state of murder. She couldn't almost care for her country, but she wanted to murder the other Kages and then hunt down Mika. Problem was that she was heavily outnumbered and thus outmatched. Though furious and bitter, she knew that it would be pure suicide. Even if she would manage to wound a Kage, then she would be probably be killed by an ANBU or another Kage. Or any other person that would jump in. Calming down, she had given orders. She and her escort would head out of Amegakure, back to Kirigakure. First she would have to secure her home and then figure out which of those despicable bastards of Kages had managed to commit the grave crime of invading Kirigakure and unleashing the Six Tails. Then perhaps returning the favor or worse? Justice would come, one way or another, Rika thought as she gritted her teeth.

Walking out of the building, she looked right and left. Some of the ANBU were needed to gather and rally some people, thus Rika had to wait. Something she normally didn't mind that much, but now? She needed every second to head back and correct things. People had to pay, bleed and suffer for the crimes that were done. While she crossed her arms and tapped with her right foot at the ground, Rika started to go through a list.

It could be the Raikage who had done this. That masked bastard was too shady for her liking. There was no way she could trust somebody who was too afraid to show his face. Perhaps he had send out agents to make the damage happen? But what if it was the Hokage? The Uchiha had acted so far calm and polite. Perhaps a bit too polite? He could well just try to make her think he was polite and not that low as to try to wreck damage at Kirigakure while the chuunin exams were in the Fire Union. She had to admit that the timing was perfect. Without her, nobody would be able to lead Kirigakure. Very clever indeed, she thought. Her eyes looked around. This village was part of the Union, perhaps she should burn it down if the culprit was indeed that Uchiha. That would perhaps be a good gesture that she wasn't to be mocked or be backstabbed in such a low manner.

''We are almost ready to go, Lady Mizukage.'' An ANBU told her, dropping on a knee behind her. ''Good. Make sure that we'll move as fast as possible. I have enough of this damped place.''

Yumi Hasewaga
Member of the Ghost ANBU.

A revelation,
The tests are done.

She shot up straight and looked with an almost panick look around. Yumi narrowed her eyes as she noticed she was in a sort of cell. No windows and dark grey walls. Only a door that stood out and the only possible way out of the somewhat claustrophobic room. Looking down, she noticed that she was dressed in a more or less ANBU formal clothing. She missed the tools and armor, but that wouldn't matter now. Raising her hands, she stared at them as she flexed them. How long had she been asleep or knocked out cold? And what did she remember? That question caused a cold shiver down her spine as she closed her eyes.

She had a younger sibling. The conversation with Meisa about what the Hokage had planned and actually, everything. But she grew anxious as what would one remember of what would be erased? Her hands moved slowly to the side of her head as she started to wonder about that. The thought was maddening as she couldn't think of an answer. What was erased and why? For what purpose and how did they decided what would need to erased and what not?

''I see you're awake. Good.''

The voice was sudden. Mentally cursing herself as her head glanced in the direction of the shadows, Yumi could barely see a silhouette. Though the soft friendly voice was one she could remember. ''What happened?'' Yumi asked, feeling quite scared. It was one of the rare moments where she was really scared. Where she didn't consider to fight for her life or even doing something remotely close as trying to fend for herself or give her life some meaning in the last moments.

''Nothing. Nothing with you at least.'' The voice said. The woman stayed in the shadows, clearly leaning against the wall. Though Yumi wasn't sure about it, her breathing became more relaxed. Nothing had happened with her? Wait, that meant one thing then. ''Did Kiyomi choose somebody else then?'' Yumi asked, in a rather careful manner.

The woman in the shadows giggled as well shaking her head, which was hard to see for Yumi. ''No, dear. The girl wasn't able to choose between you three. She believes now that your memory is partly wiped clean and Ryo's memory will be left intact.'' The answer caused Yumi to grow even more nervous. She was glad that she was spared from the somewhat cruel fate, but did that now mean that Ryo's memory would be wiped clean?

But the woman already seemed to suspect what Yumi thought. ''Ryo will also be left intact and nothing will change to him. Katsuko has been disposed off.'' The voice was a bit less friendly when she informed Yumi about Katsuko's fate. Personally, Yumi didn't care about him. He wasn't a person that was even close to her. So she wouldn't care about him on a personal level, yet she was a bit wondering why they had disposed of him. ''Must have been a rough decision to dispose of him then?''

It stayed silent for several moments and the woman sighed. ''Not at all. We had your memories and files checked. You and Ryo were fine. Katsuko however kept arguing and showing potential problems. As elite of the ANBU, the Hokage can't put trust in people who might revolt in the future. Something that several psychologist said after they individually scanned his file and his behavior and other information.''

For some reason that calmed Yumi down. She had never harbored an idea on how to oppose or get out of this tight position. Of course she wasn't sure about her life, but she had nothing else to life for. This was the way how she could keep the nation safe. Her sibling safe, so trying to oppose it would be the opposite of what she wanted. ''So it was all just to see how we would react and such? To test us?'' Yumi decided to ask, growing a bit more confident.

''Exactly. You can tell a lot on base on how a person goes around a day. For example, you prepared work and security for your little brother. Together with that you had no thought about to oppose the order or what so ever made it abundantly clear that you're no threat to the Ghost ANBU.'' The woman spoke again in a soft and friendly tone. A rather soothing in Yumi's opinion. ''Rest out. Soon, you will be sent on missions.''

Yumi nodded. She blinked once with her eyes, but the silhouette of the woman had disappeared. Slowly laying on her back, she stared at the ceiling. Raising her left hand, she stared at it. I'm still alive. And with that thought, Yumi fell asleep.

"My Sharingan would make it easy for me to learn how others fight, so I opt for training if that is okay with you, Sensei. Where's Kuni? Don't Shinobi usually train in their teams?" The boy askes as he looks around, the question had been brought up because Ryuu remebered that Shinobi did every thing with their teams from his time spent at the academy. But that was not an important detail at the moment, Ryuu had to improve himself so that next time the Chunin exams rolled around, the boy would be able to compete in them himself. To prove himself to the world.

Shinichi Kyousuke “Welcome to Manual Labor"

”It is indeed amazing what people will do as a group for something they believe in. The only bad part about this is that it causes more harm than good. Wars and what not. I guess that’s just in human nature though, and there is no changing that.” Shinichi glanced over his team once more. Niji was scanning the map and Kamiria was staring out into what seemed like nothingness. Maybe she was just thinking to herself.

The sky darkened a little bit and eventually the trio made it close enough to the town to actually make out buildings and lights. It seemed as if it was a simple town, maybe no more than 20 or so buildings, just from a glance but what really surprised Shinichi was the fact that multiple carts pulled by horses were entering and leaving the town at what seemed like lightning speed. Obviously it wasn’t that fast but Shinichi had never seen something like it. People were dedicated to fulfilling these deliveries, even at what seemed like every minute of the day.

Analyzing the town even more Shinichi was able to clearing see the fruits of the townsfolk’s labors. Stacks of lumber were placed neatly in stockpiles as well as roofing material and other assorted construction material. Obviously this town wanted to bounce back as fast as they could. ”Well you two…it looks like we made it.”

They all continued onward until they reached a stockpile dedicated strictly to stones which will obviously be used to construct more buildings later on. Standing near the pile was a bald headed man with a clipboard, his face was adorned with wrinkles obviously from age but his skin and muscle tone looked much younger then himself. Perhaps it was due to working in construction that this old man in what could be his forties looks as if he was in his early 20s, minus the wrinkles.

”Greetings, Kinuta, we’ve arrived from the Hidden Cloud to help out with your town’s rebuilding project” Shinichi, wanting to appear professional tried to cut out most of the casual banter he usually participates in. ”Although it seems as if you already have this covered” he smiled, finally finding a great time gauge how laid back this man was.

The bald man known as Kinuta looked up from his clipboard which he was keeping inventory on and smiled towards Shinichi, his smile becoming much more prominent then the jounin’s. ”Why hello you three.” his voice was energetic and strong at the same time. As he spoke the old man inches closer, eventually patting Shinichi on the back in a friendly matter, surprisingly enough this actually caused Shinichi to flinch a little bit just from the sheer strength of the impact. This man was definitely not a weak old guy.
”Don’t worry. We only have a small fraction of everything covered. You didn’t think we’d call you down all this way for nothing now did you?” at this point Kinuta has his hand placed on Shinichi’s shoulder obviously intending to lead him some place. Now if you would all follow me…your chariot awaits” and with that Shinichi followed beside Kinuta.

Kinuta led the trio to a cart lounging on the ground next to a large 3 by 2 stack of barrels stacked 2 high. Just from the site it was obvious to Shinichi that Kinuta wanted them to load and deliver whatever was in said barrels.

((I’d write more but I don’t want to have to start godmoding a lot so have at it Glitchy))

Eiji Emiya

"Yes, we would train in teams, but the whole Chuunin Exams in our city make that somewhat difficult. Kuni is watching one of the matches. Her... friend is fighting." Eiji pondered a bit at the word friend as he wasn't sure if he would describe Kuni's former opponent like that. But it seemed that the girls had indeed somehow managed to... become friends. It was quite amazing and in a way reminded him of himself and Hiron.

"And we don't have a third teammember," he continued after a pause. "So this will be a solo training. One specifically designed for this occasion. We hardly get the opportunity to meet and talk with so many different people from so many different nations. But they are all here right now in the city. Now as you know a shinobi should be versitily in fighting, but should also be good with espionage and gathering information. And when would you get a better chance at gathering information then now?" Eiji gave the boy a look. "So here is what I want you to do. I want you to go out there and listen to the people from different cities. When you come back I want you to tell me five things about other cities that you have learned that you didn't know before you left me. It can be anything and can be gained by any method. Eaves-dropping, smooth talk, pleasant talk, I don't care. As long as it is effective and as long as you learn something valuable. Understood?"

"I'm not very good at the pleasant talk, Sensei. I'll do my best though" Ryuu said simply before turning to head out into the exams area, since the boy figured that with the bigger crowds and mass of people, it would probably be easier to navigate through and note be seen while having a wealth of information going around in which he could pick and choose which information he decided to remember, if only he knew some form of Jutsu to allow him to make it appear as if he was a different person... life would be much easier.

As Ryuu entered the testing area, he couldn't help but admire the diversity of all the people there, and they were all in such a small area as well. It was amazing to the young Shinobi, especially that there hadn't been an all out fight yet. Surely there had to be some Shinobi in here to didn't like each other. Either way, the boy knew that he had to focus on his goal that was ahead. So he went for the nearest crowd, who were watching a match, and stood near the rear where he could see some Shinobi wearing Konohoagakure gear.

The group was talking among themselves as they watched the fight, not taking any notice of the Genin who had walked up near them, but Ryuu had taken the time to ensure that he was in a position close to them, but where it would still look like he was just watching the match. He settled in and began to listen closely to the three, hoping to gain some sort of insight into their Village rather soon that he could move on to the next group or individual and get his mission done faster.

Kensuke Nimatsu - Konohagakure Team 7 Jounin

After having visited the hospital, leaving Ezuri there for some well-earned rest and having his clone had a talk with Shisen about what lenghts one should and should not go to win what was not much more than a glorified training match, Kensuke enjoyed taking a leisurely stroll through the arena complex. Not the town itself, he actually hated it to be honest. It was dark, everything was made of ugly metal buildings, and it always rained. It was too depressing. Thereby, his village and the Rain has always been on fragile relations, since the valley where his hometown was located had been a neutral but heavily fortified border between the Rain and Konoha. Multiple times had the Rain tried to use it as a backdoor into the rear of the heavily fortified borders North of the mountain complex, and multiple times has their expeditionary units been slaughtered. He was raised to be cautious for this place, and even though he had largely grown past it, it still expressed itself this way.

He heard the fights going on around him and tried to avoid thinking of the past himself. There was little happiness to be found there, because since he left the hospital now almost exactly a year ago, the period before he moved to Konoha which he had previously seen as the happiest period of his life, had grown a saddening shadow. It was as if his childhood memories gained a shroud coloured by the workings of sensitive matters he did not realize back then. In any case, his job in here was de facto complete, and he would return to Konoha as soon as Ezuri'd be healed. Enjoying some of the not-quite-but-still-fresher-than-outside air of the simulated arena, he saw a genin of the Rain throw some what you could call subtle looks at a group of Konoha genin. A grin grew on his face for some reason, and he decided to investigate the situation.
