By no means is it bad, but I will level with you: it is not fantastic. Given the freedom that you have, it is very passable, but comes off very much as a cautious first attempt. Go wild! Make up the name of the towns your characters dwell in; give cultures and legends and life to the setting. Please do not scrap this idea or give up, but keep it to continue gnawing on, and use it as a springboard to do something really innovative! We have plenty of time to realize this vision.

Here's one I did a while ago when I was sick and bored.

Name: Virgil Marowit
Sex: Male
Age: 24
Race: Parili
Affinity: Telum
Personality: Through gruff and by no means outgoing, Virgil is nevertheless an outstanding friend. He treasures close relationships and socializing with them, generally pursuing quality over quantity in terms of compatriots. He is tough and somewhat impulsive, and while of no more than average intelligence, he has a certain charm and common sense that make up for his lack of genius. He doesn't mince words and tends to speak exactly what is on his mind, and he can be scornful of those who lack integrity and basic fortitude. He has a strong honest streak, but has no real semblance of a hero.
Fighting Style: When fighting for himself, Virgil adopts a highly defensive style capable of dishing out damage while minimizing self-harm. Virgil carries a shotgun conduit implanted with a multi-missile projectile Ignus spell, which launches a spread of blazing bullets whenever fired. It is so reliable and quintessential to him that he has named it Thaksin, which means 'right hand'.

He is a specialist in a not-so-unique combination of Permutatio and Telum magic, Virgil is capable of transforming himself into one of two weapons. The first is a tower shield, its metal a rough, pebbled blue, and at its center lies an eye very much like his own. Its Charm ability is to force any foes who make eye contact with its eye to look directly at it, which wears off if it blinks. The second is a flare gun, black metal with a teak-brown stock, that fires blinding magenta flares. These flares, upon coming into contact with an open source of heat like fire, gas, or hot air, can explode violently.

Ooooo, I like that setting. The tide leaves and the bodies of the unfortunate litter the streets in it's wake, of which there have been more and more. The near constant black sky and frequent appearance of the Ankou sowing seeds of hysteria. Then the whirlpool forms, dragging a whole building into the hidden depths below the city. There are no escapees or survivors. Then another, bigger. Whatever is the cause of all this, it lies down below, and the protagonists must find the answers while there is still a city left to save.

You've made it sound very exciting, Reddy. Among other ideas for interesting places to be in, I was also thinking of setting a story in the Lepers, in the midst of a city filled with sickness, wherein Nocnitsa butts heads with the player characters as they try to figure out what exactly is keeping the city in its perpetual miasma.

Regardless of where we go, I always thought it would be awesome for Nocnitsa to become more of a presence. In the course of their adventures, the PCs would find that not only is the creed of Nocnitsa true, but the godlike personifications of the magical affinities exist as well, and we meet several of them. Though the gods claim benevolence or indifference, with mortal affairs beneath them, they turn out in fact to be beings orchestrating events on a massive scale, from Bestia on Tourmaline to Tenebris, Venenum, and Praecantio on Spinel, Motus in Agate, Aqua in the aforementioned watery city (what's a good name for it...Ebb?), and so on. A bunch of them might be abominable monsters in actuality, preying on the races of Protea.

I get the feeling that this might be what @Prince Of Seraphs is working on.

Of course, that is only one idea, and based on what you guys feel would be fun, we could do something completely different.

The framework is solid and nothing says our adventures have to end in Ebb (liked that name too btw). Ultimately the endgame and overall framework is your call Lugugrious. Fighting embodiment sounds fun and the alien mindset of an aspect of the world could be terrifying.

I'm working on a second character now, not sure how many we're allowed. After that I might start on building up some NPCs, additional organizations, and places. Nothing too fancy, but you wanted us to create, and so I will.

Let's expand where we have the most interest. "Ebb" of Aqua. I like the idea of a source of this disaster. Possibly our 'totes not a cult' Nocnitsa are stoking the god-like entity in control of the seas into damning this town who's political body had denied the recognition of Nocnitsa as a religious entity/political power/etc. The Governor/Mayor/Leader-Type Body/Collective Parliament/Clove of Garlic/'The Man' calls for researchers, adventurers, guardsmen, and the like to help prevent or to an extent suppress the deathly tides. I love the idea of this city struggling to figure out it's doom, yet thriving from those who come to help solve the problem in spite of the circumstances. Nocnitsa could have agents spread throughout exploring teams or city-side support groups to help cripple the efforts. Their goal isn't to totally annihilate "Ebb", but rather control it and expand their domain to allow their 'gifts' to thrive outside Spinel.

I could have the wrong idea of Nocnitsa, but I kinda like the passive-aggressive style of sabotage in attempt to expand their proverbial 'territory.'

I'm really interested in this RP! It's the first one I've ever tried to get involved in as I'm new to the site!

OK, so here's an idea for a new race, lot's of inspiration came from a book I've read. Don't really have a good name for the race, so I will refer to them as seed people for now.

Locations: they all live in a valley in Feldspar, the only exceptions being those who are banished

Characteristics: They look like humans, yet they each have a large seed (kiwi sized) on the back of their neck. It is protected by a layer of skin. If one of these seed-people die, their seed may be replanted in the earth and will eventually regrow into that person. The length of this rebirth process depends on how fertile the soil is, but it could take anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks. Removal of the seed from the back of their neck will result in death. When they are reborn, it is at the age of when they first died. Please note, these people are NOT immortal. Seed people could die in any of the following ways:

1) Their seed is crushed by a massive amount of weight (Like smashing with a hammer)
2) The seeds are susceptible to flame
3) Eventually, after incredibly long periods of time, sometimes the seeds become "corrupted" eventually develops a disease. The seeds blacken and become very brittle. It is unknown if the seed people are guaranteed to get this disease.
4) Magical corruption, or use of strong poisons when killing could result in permanent death
5) If the seed person takes poor care of their body (e.g. heavy drinker or over eater) the seed begins to deteriorate more rapidly

Culture:
Because these people are reborn at the age the first died and because they prefer not to be reborn at the age of 60, there is a ritual performed at the end of each year. All the seed people that are 20 or 21 years old have their seeds extracted and then planted into the ground.

Conflicts are usually solved with duels, since the loser can just be replanted. The seed people tend to suggest duels even to those who aren't seed people over the simplest disagreements. The seed people have complex rules to their dueling, in fact, a whole series of books is written on just seed people duels.

Destroying a seed is punishable by death, even the seed belongs to one who is exiled.

Gov't: The Government is simple, an authoritarian group of six members. One is the High King, and the other five are military generals. If one wishes to become the King, they must defeat the King in a duel. In order to challenge the king however, they must be one of the five generals. In order to become general, one must defeat a general of their choice in a duel. If a king's seed is corrupted they may no longer be king, but are able to choose to remain a general for the remainder of their life.

They stay safe by remaining isolated. So isolated that only educated people tend to know of their existence.

This would be a perfect way for my character to actually survive in the desert. She could have been found by either a banished member or one just reborn. When that person chooses to not be replanted at age 60 he tells her to travel the world, and then she will be able to interact with others while still having her history in the desert......now I just gotta work the sacert back in.

Rather than 'Ebb City' I was thinking just 'Ebb'. There's the obvious connection to tidal waters, but there's also an ever-so-slight allusion to the Lovecraftian city of Ib, where primitive peoples worshiped the water lizard god Bokzug (or something similar), which later brought doom to the mighty Sarnath.

Reddy, we probably wouldn't end up having more than two player characters each if we so wanted, but one thing I'm always very in favor of is a lot of interaction with NPCs. If you've ever seen Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, in the first part there are four big characters: Jojo and Dio, the protag and the villain, Zeppeli the mentor, and lastly E. O. Speedwagon. Speedwagon doesn't accomplish very much and he isn't very interesting (just like an NPC might) but he is nevertheless an integral part of the story. Having characters other than players to interact with means that more can be written on one's own, and that your player character can be developed in a way you like. Bottom line is, please do keep creating. Whoever you decide to be the hero, anyone else you create can still be involved in the story.

Your impression of Nocnitsa is pretty spot-on, Beth. Because the Nocnitsa pantheon is strengthened not only by belief but also by want of their aid, their strength is greater when Nocnitsa has more territory/members, and when their gods' strength is greater individual practitioners can better use their magical powers, thereby doing more in the name of Nocnitsa and likely persuading others to hop on the bandwagon. It's quite the cycle. Only problem is, Nocnitsa members also undergo soul fray (a sort of magical insanity) more quickly. I'm liking your ideas for Ebb as well, though if you have a better name for it, please let me know!

Spookysquid, thank you very much for your interest! This new race you've got going on is quite intriguing. I think a fitting name for it might be Germina, as in germinate. If the race is very much like humans, I'd rather them be an offshoot of the human race (like the parilis) than their own original race that happened to look just like humans except for their seeds. Naturally I expect the 'germinas' to have an inclination for the Herba and Lignum affinities. I very much like the idea of a plant race that's not meek and down-to-earth but strident and honor-bound. Perhaps instead of staying isolated thanks to secrecy, they keep themselves isolated by being aggressive and territorial? As for history of how this race came to be, we could easily say that long ago a group of pilgrims from Spinel afflicted with a lethal case of raw Herba magic immigrated to Feldspar, where they managed to get their affliction under control. After a many generations, the germinas are as we know them today. And of course, since they try to keep themselves separate, they'd have their own faction as well. Something like the Germina Nation. What do you think? Any better ideas?

Perhaps the sacert could be a creature domesticated (or at least tamed) by the germinas, bluemoon?

Here is a list of have some more ideas/ changes for the race:

-I agree, Germina sounds like a good name and I plan to use that from now one! :D

-Ironically, for some reason, the Germina are usually unable to even use Herba magic. Germina seem to have a strong affinity for Venunum along with Lux and Terra. Since poison is one of the easiest ways to destroy the seeds, practice of Venunum is outlawed. Aside from Herba, Germinas are typically unable to express any sort of proficiency in Gelum, Machina, Metallum, and Permutatio.

-Magic use in general is greatly frowned upon by the Germani. In fact, many have been banished because of them being suspected of unauthorized use of magic. A separate permit is required to practice each of the affinities within the kingdom. Here is a list of forbidden magics (aside from page five of the affinity list):
-Cognito (Dangerous magic to play around with)
-Fractus (Seeds explode... bound not to end well...)
-Venenum
-Viniculum (There are all sorts of nasty ways seed people can be burried alive, suffocating to death over and over with this)
-Tenebris (2 spooky 4 me)
-Ignus (Because fire is a great way to destroy a seed)

-They remain isolated through a mixture of the location of the Kingdom and their distrust and aggression towards strangers. Since the area is not particularly rich in materials and hard to reach, many don't find it worth the trouble of setting up any sort of trade agreement or attacking it for use of the land or any particular materials. Despite their ferocious fighting ability, they don't like getting mixed into wars.(More people tend to have heard of them then I have previously stated, so secrecy plays a much smaller role in their isolation.)

-Their faction is known as the Brotherhood of the Germina or the Germina Kingdom to many outsiders. (As opposed to the Germina Nation, which I still like, just not as much as Brotherhood.)

-Perhaps Sacert is an enemy of the Germina that used to raid crops from them and the women befriends it? That would be interesting...

As a side note, I have an idea for a character that I'll probably post soon.

Alright, how's this for a combined entry on the germina? If you like 'brotherhood', I reasoned, you'd like 'cabal' more. Was it your intention to make this race almost completely similar to humans except for the pods? Not much else makes them more special as a 'plant race'.

Two different characters I'm thinking about, somewhat unrelated, honestly... again, let me know what you think!

Name: Real name is unknown, but he is commonly referred to as the Twisted Magician
Sex: Male
Age: Certainly, this person must be ancient to have such magical proficiency, exact age is unknown
Race: Most guess human, but nobody is certain
Affinity: Unknown, but many insist that it must be Vitium
Personality: Shrouded in mystery...
Fighting Style: His fighting style is unknown, but he has a series of defenses guarding his home, including terrible monsters.
Appearance: Unknown, many claim that he has a deep booming voice
Bio: There was once a magician that was driven mad. He had always been seclusive, and remained at the top of a small hill in an old stone house within an area that was controlled by the WOL. One day, he killed his wife and fled. He escaped to a dense forest and has resided there since. He kidnapped several different people and was said to use them as experiments. Eventually, since many knew the path to where he was hiding, the local residents demanded troop supported. But as soon as the thought of dispatching troops arose, the Twisted Magician stopped. The WOL, preoccupied with other things, like the civil war, ignored him. A few cheap mercenaries were sent but few returned, and those who did spoke of a horrifying monster that guarded the path to the Magician's house.
(I thought that the seed people could potentially be a product of his experiments.)

Name: Kadoodle Birchroot Hepharious (Friends call him Kadoodle, everyone else calls him Heparious)
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Race: Goblin
Affinity: Lux

Personality: Unfortunately, Kadoodle suffers from the same fault as many other Goblins. He lacks intelligence. However, Kadoodle is by no means a textbook goblin. He loves talking with different people and trying new things, even going as far as to try out magic. He always dreams that he can see the world, and has become somewhat bored with Jade. While he isn't smart, he wants to learn, but it is difficult for him to gain knowledge, as Jade's closest library is owned by an elf that won't even allow him to enter.

Fighting Style: Has a long spiked club and a sleek black knife. He is very skilled with knife throwing, but dreadful with his club. His club is light enough that he can wield it in one hand if he chooses. He is not the most skilled fighter. He only knows two spells that he learned as fun, a simple one that he uses to heat his meals at home and one that he rarely uses that briefly shoots small fireworks out of his fingertips.

Bio: When his parents learned that Kadoodle's mother was pregnant, they decided it would be best to move from their farm home in Chalcedony into Jade. However, on their trip, Kadoodle's father fell down a mountain. He suffered two thirty feet falls, and tumbled over one hundred feet. Kadoodle's mother rushed to find the body only to realize Kadoodle's father had close into a rare but small stream filled with pure aura magic. The goblin's leg had fallen into the stream and disintegrated. His mother buried her husband there and continued the journey to Jade. She reported the location of the small pond and it became a small but thriving village populated by very skilled Aura magicians. The village was named Birchvein after his father, Birchroot. Raised by his mother in Jade, Kadoodle was well known for his excellent cooking and likable personality. He found work as a chef at a large inn near a zipline which runs from Jade to another island. In addition to this work, he also helps people learn how to use the zipline safely. Kadoodle's mother, although she was aware of how unusual her son was, allowed him to pursue any interests that he had, resulting in Kadoodle becoming well rounded. After Kadoodle's mother died from heart failure, he put up posters around the city as job applications, hoping that someone will hire him to be a chef for a group of adventurers.

Appearance: Kadoodle is barely an inch above four feet, making him only slightly taller than normal. He has large gray eyes, white teeth, and fingernails that are shorter than most goblins but still are dirty. His skin is beige. He takes good care of himself compared to other goblins.

I like Kadoodle, but your Twisted Magician, to be frank, needs a lot of work. He's so ill-defined that I can barely dredge up enough evidence to make him overpowered, but there you go. As an NPC, perhaps someone we go up against eventually, sure, but you'd have to fill in the character sheet. It's fine if people IC don't know anything about a character (this is the case with most of our characters, actually), but in OOC, using 'unknown' amounts to an excuse.

Kadoodle's very nice though, as I said. I could legitimately see him as a PC.

Yeah, I think I'm going to leave the Twisted Magician on the side until later perhaps. I have some ideas revolving around him, but I'm going to hold off on them for now. I actually plan on using Kadoodle as my PC! I'll probably add a tiny bit more detail surrounding this character. In addition, the Cabal is exactly what I was going for! That description is great! I really look forward to doing this RP, and I'll let you know if I have any other ideas.
