Charlie glanced around a little as he noticed more people arrive. First he spotted a fleeting blonde figure heading up the porch into the house - maybe an initiate, but surely they'd come and sit with the rest if they were one... they wouldn't want to miss whatever was going to happen next, surely? And then Hana arrived shortly after, walking over to the food table and piling up her place nice and high, just like Charlie did. He absentmindedly munched on a bit of chicken before he was suddenly greeted by Calypso and pulled into a crushing hug by, being pulled against Summer at the same time. He chuckled as he was released from the hug after a few seconds. "Well, I'm glad to see you too, Calypso."

At her response to his earlier remark about lateness, he shrugged. "Well, the food is certainly delicious... I suppose I'm fortunate to be situated fairly close." He watched as a quick conversation between Dakota and Calypso had them hurrying off to the food table to get some. If Charlie hadn't already gotten his food, he would have probably gone and joined them, but he had gotten his food, so he sat back down. Kate had also arrived, and Cassandra and Uathine were still continuing their animated conversation away from the rest of the group. Charlie wanted to start a conversation with somebody... should he start one with Summer, or perhaps Alayna who he saw arriving at the table with her food. However, his options were forced by the arrival of Arken.

Charlie wasn't absolutely sure if Arken was calling him Charles to be intentionally obtuse, or if it was just a case of not knowing every time that they saw each other, but Charlie thought that a gentle reminder here wouldn't hurt, just in case it was the latter. "I'm doing rather well - just in case you forgot, I do prefer to go by Charlie, instead of Charles. Not a big deal, just making sure you know." Charlie smiled, before looking over to where Arken was gesturing too. "That's Hana, isn't it? She's not new... At least, I don't believe she's new, I've definitely seen her around here a fair amount if I remember correctly."

He glanced back at Dakota and Calypso at the food table again, before looking back at the rest of the table. "I do consider myself rather good at remembering names, though, so I suppose you not knowing her name compared to me wouldn't be an abnormality"

When they got to the table full of drink and food, Calypso grabbed a red solo cup and a Sharpie, writing her name on it in big, loopy letters. She snorted at Dakota's comment. "Right? She's just... so passive-aggressive all the time," she told Dakota. She took a pitcher of sweet tea and poured a healthy amount into her cup and moved down the line to the food. Glancing over her shoulder again, she took note of several others that she hadn't noticed before. Rebecca was off in the corner talking to herself, as always. Or, rather, to a dead person. If she put a little bit of effort into it, Calypso could see the faint outline of another, ghostly person next to her. Her deep brown eyes tracked Arken coming to the party late. She was familiar with him but didn't quite know to call him a friend or not. Iris was being spacey at the table- something that Cal knew was a habit of the girl. And now Charles was talking to Arken... she laughed. That might not go so well- as far as she knew, their personalities didn't quite mesh. She might need to mediate a bit later, lest they get in a bit of trouble.

Calypso returned Dakota's earnest, warm smile with one of her own. Oh, me?" She picked up a ladleful of fried okra and plopped it onto a paper table, but not before popping one into her mouth. "Well, I actually just graduated high school! Just been thinking of what college to attend... it's kinda hard." She paused, chewing her lip. "I've been thinking about taking a gap year and studying here at the house and doing some work for the coven. Sister Deborah said she'd love if I did that, but I'm not really sure, you know? Kind of a hard choice." They reached the end of the line, Calypso's plate now loaded with food. Now finished, she stepped back to lean against a tree, silverware, plate, and cup in hand.

"What about you? I haven't seen you since, like, what, winter solstice? Crazy long time. What have you been up to?"

Despite the fact that today was really important for her, Iris didn’t look like she was ready. She was slouched back at the picnic table. Another song played in one ear, and she was wearing... wait for it.
Sweatpants. Did she care? Sure. After all, it’s not like she was about to have her very being bound to a magic wellspring she’s never laid eyes on before. This day meant something to her, no doubt. But she’s not the kind of person to go all out for these things. She cares, and that’s all she needs to do. The elders won’t throw her out for wearing something comfortable. She stared up into the clouds a bit, her cup half empty but still with an elusive drink inside it. Tea? Mountain Dew? Or was it Faygo? Do we even have Faygo...maybe it’s RC...No, RC doesn’t taste yellow...Mountain Holler? No...too flat...

She should probably look in the damn cup.

She gave a small satisfied hum as the delectable cuisine hit her taste buds and didn’t wait long to place another spoonful between her lips. She hadn’t realized just how hungry she actually was until she started eating but it made everything taste like heaven, though it was highly doubtful anything provided wouldn’t be fantastic even on a normal day. Hana let her gaze wander away from her plate for a moment, checking out which initiates had arrived so far while she had been running around with the children. It was no surprise that Calypso and Dakota were already mid hug, greeting each other in a friendly manner. Those two always seemed happy and just shared the same wavelength in her opinion. She didn’t doubt they probably got along swimmingly, that couldn’t be said about some of the others that had approached though. She had nothing against Summer, honestly, she figured that the girl just didn’t have many people in her life to call her out on her bullshit when she was acting like a twit or maybe she didn’t have anyone willing to do so. At least she tried to act nice to people and seemed to be especially nice to those she considered her friends so it wasn’t like she didn’t have a heart.

Hana didn’t actually know much about Charlie, only that he reminded her of someone petting a cat's fur in the direction. It just kind of made him an odd one to figure out so she gave him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn’t trying to be mean when he misspoke. She didn’t know the other person with them even though Hana had seen her around before. She thought she vaguely remembered her being from the Moore family or something but at least she seemed nice, not getting any negative vibes. Her attention was suddenly pulled away from the other side of the table as Cassandra made her appearance, roping Uaithne into a conversation which caused her to give a soft smile. It was nice to see those two in such good spirits. She didn’t want to bother them, plus it would be rude to eavesdrop even if unintentionally since she was exactly invited to talk to them. She debated if she should find someone to start a conversation with, not really wanting to be antisocial with the group her age but she had no clue to talk to. She could feel her fingers nervously twirling the ends of her chestnut hair, trying to find a solution when one appeared next to her.

Iris, her sweatpants clad savior, had decided to find her seat at exactly the moment she had needed her too. Hana silently thanked the gods for sitting her next to someone she actually knew, though it was actually her own previous actions that had made it possible. She smiled brightly, lightly tapping on her shoulder to not startle her since she was listening to music after all.”Hi Iris, how about this party? Do you like the fo...um..drinks?”, she asked, only stopping mid sentence because she realized that Iris didn’t actually have a plate in front of her. Just a cup filled with what looked like Sprite which Hana hadn’t even known they had but she couldn’t regret her choice of sweet tea since it was spectacular. Her eyes only flickered away from the girl beside her for a moment as Arken Stone announced his arrival to the party to the whole table. It was hard not to know about Arken though she was definitely not on his radar as far as she knew. She was not ashamed to admit she had made sure of it. Heck, all of the fancy families of the coven were the ones she very much took time to avoid. It wasn’t anything to them as a person and more to do with, she was a nervous wreck on how she was supposed to behave around them without making things either awkward or without embarrassing herself. Hana moved her full attention back on Iris, trying to ignore the fact that a few moments later, it felt like eyes were on her and she wasn’t sure she wanted to know the reason why.

So many people were arriving so fast, Rowan would have struggled to keep up. So instead she just got lost in thought, rolling an apple between the fingers of her right hand. Her contents of her thoughts frankly didn't matter, it didn't include anyone at the event not even the event itself. Just some outlandish scenario Rowan would play out in her head. Until her time of silent bliss was invaded by one face, Kate Shuang. Okay maybe not that extreme, in fact, it was a pleasant surprise. Rowan had never got an answer before on whether they would join the coven fully or not, and that answer was in front of her. She was glad to have another witch come into potion studies, and one that brought a challenge and new recipes were what Rowan needed.

Rowan initially tipped her chin up and to the left as if to impersonate a snooty rich kid. But that was quickly broken with a smile, yes she had royally shot herself in the foot last time they met. But Rowan wasn't above recognizing that and making a bit of fun at the situation.

After that Rowan decided to actually bite into the apple. Of course it wasn't any normal fruit, the fact that she hadn't been to the food table yet would be a hint for that. No it was a transformed potion, but nothing crazy in terms of effect. It was closer to just a pick me up, similar to a cup of coffee, to keep her on the top of her game for today.

Erin walked through his room above the shop gathering his possessions to move into the coven house with his mother. It had been a couple of years since he had stayed with his mom and he wasn’t sure how well it was going to work, but the coven would let him continue his research into ecomancy and would give him more space for his animals. Sion brought what he was carrying and laid it in his hand as Erin couldn’t help but smile and give a loving head rubs to what essentially became his best friend. A silent knock brought, Erin back to the present as his dad stood in the entry of his room. Peter McKay was the typical picture of an Irishman; pale skin, dirty red hair, and what he continuously called a “working man’s build”. He stood there in the door watching Erin for a minute eyeing the items that he packed as he, packed them. Finally, he broke the awkward silence,
“So…do you have everything you need?

”Obviously. Just putting the last of it together.”

“Ya sure, you didn’t miss your cauldron or broom?”

The audible sigh of derision gave him the sign that he went too far with his jab. Erin ignor him began continued on packing his bags. The moment lasted a few minutes more until once again his dad spoke up.

“I really wish you would reconsider leaving. The shops already way behind and I don’t have enough time and money to hire another.”

” The coven is the only way I can continue my research into my magic and alchemy, besides you’ll be fine you always are.”

“Oh come on all that hippy-dippy magic mumbo jumbo your mother did is nothing but some bul…”

Before he could finish the statement Sion began growling and bearing his teeth at Peter. The low rumbling growl caused the grown man to jump back in fear of the tiny creature. However, the thing that bothered him the most was Erin’s seething glare, blue eyes flashing menacingly as the plants in his room seemed to shake and quiver with his intent. After taking a moment to calm himself down he began his calculated assault.

” First of all, do not pretend that either mine or my mother’s magic had anything to do with the deterioration of your and mothers’ marriage. We both gave everything we had to helping shop grow and for all of our efforts, we were met with distrust and demands to work faster. Magic is meant to be used for the betterment of all not for personal gain. If you ever truly cared about either of us, which judging from past events you don’t, you would know that the coven is the best way for me to grow and you had better get used to this new phase in my life or you will lose another member of your family.”

There was a moment. A tense quiet thing that could be cut with a knife neither one moved a muscle for concern of the other. With slow determined moves, Erin finished packing his things and brushed passed his farther and walked down the stairs to his Power Wagon parked in front of the store. With happy chittering, Sion hopped into the truck and curled up in the passenger floorboard and eased himself to sleep. Erin paused a moment to look up and his bedroom window to meet his father’s gaze before he cranked the truck up and pulled away. As he drove up the road he didn’t know if he would ever come home again, but as far as he was concerned the coven was his home now. And that would be enough.

Location: Virginia - The Sisters of the Dying Branch Coven House
Present Day

Interaction(s): Open to anyone

Erin arrived at the party in a fog. Since he had left the shop he had been in deep thought about his interaction with his dad. He had met with his mom and was trotted out to be shown like a show pony for the members of the coven and even some of the elders. He gave the appropriate pleasantries to all and quickly sat down with a plate of food and a glass of tea. As the conversations droned on Erin stared off the table meaning around with a flower that he had grown changing the colors, leaf shape, bringing small bugs to nibble on it or whatever came to mind. Periodically he looked up and looked at the other witchlings around him. Rowan, Arken, and James were just a few that caught his eye but he quickly brought his attention back to his flower. His mind kept floating back to his last words to his dad and contemplated if he went to far. This was going to be harder to handle than he thought.

When Rowan smile back at Kate, Their heart warm up a bit, at least there is one good thing coming out of this lame party. "Aaah, what the hell..." Kate say to themself as they walk away from the shadow of the tree and walk toward the table of teenage witches to socialize, got to make a first impression Kate suppose.

Kate look around the table to see if there are any spot to take, They finally spotted a seat, it beside the goth girl on the left that Kate kinda knows, Cassandra, Kate thinks that her name and they knows that she is really good at curses, they think it for the best to stay on her good side. When the girl ask one of her friends if she want any drinks "I would like a drink, the other drink I had earlier wasn't that good." Kate say to the girl as they finally sit down, they look at Cassandra and nod at her "What's up?"

“Well, most of them are good people. I’m a little bit nervous about Summer and Charlie, though. You know how I act? That’s how she actually is. And Charlie’s just an asshole, plain and simple.” Cassandra smiled as Kate slid in on her other side. Everyone thought her magic was dangerous, but the potioneer made her nervous. She could easily slip something into your soda, and you’d never have a clue. Not that she thought Kate would ever do something like that. The two had a pretty professional relationship, and Cassandra often asked her for potion advice.

“But Kate? She’s the best of the bunch,” Cassandra said with a grin as she raised her glass of Coke in salute. “Say, Kate, you got any more of that diced sentimentality? I need it for something I’m working on. New way of storing spells.”

Jeremy Lindall

Honestly, Jeremy was a little worried about how today would go...

This wasn't so much out of fear for whatever trials he might face during the induction itself. No, he'd put in the work to make sure that that would go as smoothly as he possibly could. When he wasn't busy training with Argo, Hannah, or Ashleigh, he had busied himself with the task of relentless creation and enchantment of various charms, tools, and other useful items, so he could be ready for whatever might be thrown at him. That... and working on his 'deep water' issues...

No, what he was worried about was the other initiates. He'd heard that all of them would probably already know each other at some level, having already been affiliated with the coven for some time now, if not since birth. Compared to that, he was an outsider, and from what Hannah tended to tell him, one with something of a... grating... personality... Of course, it was entirely possible this was because of her own, usually painfully immature personality, but he was still well aware how he tended to appear to some. Therefore, he decided that the only course of action was to try and bury any initial judgment and try to make a good first impression.

With these thoughts in mind, he carefully made sure he was wearing a proper smile as he approached the initiates table, an expression which definitely didn't look odd, out of place, or downright unsettling when he attempted it. After a few seconds of looking, he found his seat and sat down. True, it was a little bit concerning that his seat didn't have a plate, but neither did the seat next to him, so maybe something was going on. There was also the fact that many of the chairs next to him remained empty, but maybe other people were just late? Surely he wasn't already being pranked... right?

Well, even if he was, he wouldn't let it get to him. He'd just have to work hard enough to earn their respect through hard work, and do his best to not let their behavior get to him. Instead of dwelling on the topic, he turned to the closest initiate, a red haired girl sitting across from him.

"Hello." He said, trying his best to look friendly. "I'm Jeremy Lindall. I was sent to join this coven as an initiate this year by my teachers. It's nice to meet you. I hope we can work well together."

There, that wasn't too bad right? He kept the introduction short, and quickly got to the point in his explanation of why he was there. What more could anyone want?

Uaithne appreciated Cassandra's take on the group. Sometimes... Well it was easy for him to see the other witchling's as they/them versus himself. But they really weren't his opponents. A lesson he should know well. He put the bitterness away, this wasn't the right time for reflection. He smiled and waved with one greasy hand at Kate, as she sat and was integrated into the conversation. He glanced across the table at Hana and Iris, but Hana seemed engrossed in whatever girly stuff they were babbling about.

Looking around it was easy to see most everyone was here... Well. There was still the one gal up on the porch... A mischievous grin spread across Uaithne's face as he thought about that. Before Kate could answer Cassandra, he interjected a quick excuse to remove himself from the conversation.

"I will be right back, don't start anything exciting without me. "

Uaithne guzzled his tea, drinking a full half of the pitcher, before picking up his, mostly cleaned, fifth plate and heading off towards the house. He dumped the empty paper plate in one of the many trash cans set out. A quick glance around and Uaithne picked a path that wandered around clumps of witches without getting snagged for a chat. His short stature helped, his quiet and languid pace combined a muted aura, left him... Unimportant to most observers. Though a few recognized what he was doing, they were able to figure out why easy enough and watched with mild amusement... He was nearly at the porch. He caught a glimpse of Maggie, nose in a book, and smiled... There was just a hint of something feral in it, and it faded faster than the smile.

Uaithne looked away, hoping Maggie hadn't noticed the weight of his gaze. Staring had been a mistake... But maybe, just maybe, she was ignoring the world around her and would chalk it up to 'just another glance from mother.' He approached quietly from behind, ducking between the shrubs and the house. His feet making less sound than the birds. Still he avoided looking at Maggie, as he crept up the outside railing adjacent to the one she was sitting on. With one last glance to measure distance and angles, he moved in a cat like pounce up to perch on the railing behind and to the right side of Maggie as she leaned against the corner post. As he landed he parked his face next to her right ear and peered at the book while asking an simple question in his usual quite tone.

"Nice book, what's it about?"

Uaithne expected to startle Maggie, and was prepared to keep her from falling off the porch should she be particularly startled... He was also ready to catch the book if it got dropped.

While today was the big day for Alex, his Dad sighed as he looked at the dashboard clock as it continued to tick on and on, why did he feel more nervous about this than his son? The drive itself wasn't terrible as they left quite early and stopped along the way to finish the second part of their trip but at this point, he'd definitely be late if he didn't get out to accomplish the final trek. He had already said what he wanted to but it has already been what... twenty or so minutes since their heartfelt talk about how proud he was.

"Alex... Are you heading out yet? You need to actually leave the car in order to get to your initiation, you know that right? "

He asked while his son was still fretting around in the pulldown mirror, occasionally taking a glance outside the window as more and more initiates arrived. Alex had already taken an hour to get himself ready before they even left and at this point, was it worth fretting over nothing? It looked like if he wasn't going to be the first one to do it there wouldn't be anything that would happen, being the first one to open the door and unhook the keys as the engine died down.

" Wait, don't we still got some time until we need to be there? Can't we leave in five- "

And... the door was shut in front of Alex as his Dad went around the car and knocked on the door after trying to pull the handle open, looking at him expectantly. He had locked it to try and delay the inevitable but the mechanical "Beeep Beeep" signaled his doom as the lock undid itself like magic, curse technology.

" Alright! I'm coming. I'm coming. "

He unbuckled himself from his seat and opened the car door, his feet crunching on the ground as they began to make their way over to the initiation. Before he could do anything, his Dad was the first casualty as several of the people he knew came over for the usual pleasantries when they arrived on the scene. With question after question, he politely answered them while he inched farther and farther away to escape the unfortunate trap his father was caught in. He took a glance at finding the best place escape, for the eyes on his back wouldn't leave him alone to wander just anywhere, taking this as his chance to head towards the table full of initiates and hope they would relent in their attention. He made his excuses to remove himself and began to head over towards the table, grabbing a cup of something to occupy his hand, as he looked for his seat and the other initiates that were there.

Perhaps he was butting on the tail end of things but it looks like an introduction was being made as he sat down, following the look of the teen he didn't know and who it was directed to... aah... Summer. He knew most of the initiates that would be participating in today's events over the course of years being with the coven ever since his Dad got them in but it seems like he was completely new from the sounds of it. Still, he needed to make his rounds with his peers to see how they have been and what better place to start off with someone new to bring along.

Setting his cup on the table, about halfway empty, he checked his pockets again before he took another glance to his left then right to place where everyone was.

"It's nice to meet you Jeremy but we're not the elders, you know that right? "

He welcomed with a small laugh and smile at the formal introduction, turning the attention that was once gazed on the surrounding crowd now focused on the person seated in front of him. For sure, he was definitely shorter than the dark-haired brunette but besides that, it looked like he recently got here just like him which was convenient.

"If you aren't busy with everything that is going on, I could introduce you to some of our peers. Hopefully, you will get to meet most of the others in our coven who will be with us tonight. "

Maggie was enjoying the sunshine from her perch on the railing as well as the sliver of shade that the roof provided. She could feel the breeze tickle the back of her neck and gently brush through her short wavy hair as she read, cooling her off from the early summer heat. Sitting on the outskirts of the party was a peaceful reprieve amongst the madness, and Maggie welcomed the quiet wholeheartedly. Although, she did let her eyes drift from the words on the page over to the initiate table once or twice to see if the crowd had dispersed, but it remained, and thus so did she.

Her mother had been over a few minutes prior to reprimand her for sitting on the sidelines, both literally and figuratively. Maggie had promised that she would join everyone in a little bit...but for now, she continued to leaf through page after page of her novel. She’d eventually meander over to see the other witchlings, but she was at too good of a part to put the book down! She was engrossed in the writing and the world seemingly disappeared around her- the setting of the story being the only thing that mattered at the current moment. The blonde was so immersed that she nearly had a heart attack when someone suddenly began speaking into her ear from an extremely close distance. Maggie gasped, nearly losing her balance and accidentally dropping her book into the brush below. Startled, she whipped around to see a familiar face lurking behind her.

“Uaithne! You can’t just sneak up on people like that!” She spoke through gritted teeth with furrowed eyebrows to match, trying to control the mix of anger and annoyance that had quickly bubbled up in her. Maggie attempted to keep her cool, but she wasn’t too pleased that he had decided to be meddlesome and take her by surprise. She didn’t even hear him coming! She sighed, beginning to regain her composure as her pulse slowed. The blonde swung her legs to the outside of the railing, letting them dangle towards the ground.

“Well, it was about a dystopian society until you made me drop it.” Her eyes search the bushes below, attempting to locate her lost book, but she sadly couldn’t see it from a first glance. She’d have to go down there if she wanted to find it. She returned her gaze to Uaithne, letting her negative emotions fade away. “Whatever- how is it over there? Everyone on their best behavior?” Maggie nodded her head towards the table in the distance that held the other witchlings, assuming he had already been over there.

Uaithne cackled in mischievous delight as Maggie gasped and briefly lost her balance. She dropped her book into the bushes, unfortunate since it put the book beyond his reach as it fell. He stopped cackling to retort to her protest regarding his sneaking.

"Apparently, Miss Wilson, I most certainly can. Otherwise you wouldn't be upset with me!"

He resumed cackling even as he jumped down to find her book for her. He wasn't heartless after all. He wrinkled his nose at the subject matter, he didn't much care for dystopian society books. It was very... Bland to his imagination. Still, it was probably better than text books. He paused his searching to consider the question, before tossing the answer over his shoulder.

"Actually, they are. I think everyone is trying not to worry about the initiation, so they're too distracted to properly mess with each other... Well, except for me. Obviously, I'm not worried."

Uaithne chuckled as he resumed his search. It didn't take long, the book had caught upon a branch of the bush. He pulled it out carefully, and flipped to the page Maggie had been reading from before he interrupted her reading. Then he turned and handed the open book up to Maggie, standing a little to one side just incase she was tempted to plant a foot in face for his terrorizing.

"I think this was the page you were on. And I am pretty sure none of the initiates will complain if you come read at the table. We're not rabid you know... At least not yet, maybe after tonight though... Anyway, you should come over say hello before everyone shows up. Then everyone would be watching you walk over to your seat. You look good in that sundress by the way."

He rambled on a bit, as he tried not to notice how close his face was to her lap on the vertical scale. Finally realizing he was rambling, he clamped his mouth shut and climbed up the railing to sit beside Maggie so he wouldn't have to think about her legs ... Um, anyway. He stared away from the party as he kicked his feet in tandem, watching the wind in the tree tops. It was a really nice day.

"Oh, college! That's great. Me too." Dakota speared what appeared to be a fried zucchini and plopped it onto her plate. "Same boat there, Callie. Same boat. It's a tough choice." Dakota scooped up a ladle full of succotash and poured it onto her plate. "Gap year is a good idea, though! I have always wanted to stay here more often..." She looked up at the large coven house. "I'll talk to Dad, I guess." Giving a nonchalant shrug, Kota snagged a couple ribs before following Calypso, plate in hand. She turned back over as she realized she had forgotten silverware. She lifted her hand, planning to rustle up a wind to snag a spoon and fork, before remembering she was not that good yet. She quickly hobbled over, plate awkwardly balanced in hand, before snagging a fork, knife, and spoon, grasping them in her fist as she made her way back over to Calypso.

"Winter solstice...shit, it has been a long time." Dakota thought for a moment, twirling the fork in her hand, a cup of sweet tea balanced very precariously at the edge of her plate. "Well, outside of finishing up school and all that...I passed my road test! I still don't have a car, though. Probably won't need it. Flying is so much better than driving." Dakota flicked the fork into the air, the utensil doing a couple somersaults before landing in Dakota's open palm. "Outside of that, though, not much has happened since." Dakota gave her fork another twirl in her fingers before sinking it into the fried zucchini like a spear. "Should we go back to the table? Or do you want to see how fast I can climb this tree? Much faster than you can, I bet."

Mmm, is the thought that runs through Alayna's mind as she continues digging into her mashed potatoes, looking down at her plate as if it is all she has left to eat in the world. She hasn't even dug into the rest of her food, the potatoes being the only thing she's touched. That is probably the reason why there isn't much of it left. And why the smell, oh god the smell, makes her stomach turn and her mouth water. She rubs her belly and tries to push the feeling down. This is the last time she'll ever have something so small for breakfast.

Alayna looks up from her meal then and at the food table, tempted to run and get some more. Although, by now, there were several more people gathered there. The thought of facing that many faces, possibly being forced to engage in conversation with them, makes her insides twist. Still, the thought of getting more of her mashed delight is too tempting to ignore. Before she can make up her mind about it, however, she feels a presence and a familiar voice speak from beside her. She turns her head, coming face to face with Rebecca Delacroix. Or, as she likes to call her in her head, Ghost Girl, the irony of the name being that she's actually the person that's most alive in the initiate group.

"Oh, hey Becca," the blonde replies with what she hopes is a bright smile, "More or less. Honestly, I think I'm just ready to get this whole thing over with so my 'rents cool off a bit." She nods at the girl's plate.

"Just vegetables? You should give the mashed potatoes a try. It's really good."

"I get you, Alayna. But it's all they've been working for, all these years. They just want to see all their hard work- and ours- pay off." Rebecca smiled as she took a small spoonful of potatoes, her voice dropping to a whisper. "And- though you didn't hear this from me- I'm eager to see what I can do with the power of the wellspring at my beck and call. I've been working on channeling ghosts, but I'm not quite strong enough. Everything I get is... fuzzy." The medium shrugged as a gust of wind blew a leaf onto her nose, and she wiped it off with a sneeze. "But that's neither here nor there. We'll be able to do what we'll be able to do, I guess."

"You know, I kind of envy you. The physical is all around us, and you just need to reach out your hand to make it obey you. Me, I need to go out and find the spirits, whether in the world or the next. It's not as... available. What about you, Alayna? Anything you've been working on? I mean, I guess there's only so much you can do with elementalism, but surely there's something up your sleeve."

Iris couldn’t help but wonder what the wellspring was like, she heard the elders talk about it nonstop, and outside of what they know about her golem work, she’s rarely ever heard them praise anything, then again she hasn’t had many intimate conversations with them since she learned how to write her last name - it’s hard with that many letters - on paper without making two different mistakes...Of course, in the middle of the vibe Iris had going, she almost didn’t hear the...captivating...girl next to her try to start up a conversation. She turned her head towards the pretty thing (“I’m into girls.”) and almost like magic - not the magic kind - her one earbud slipped out of her ear and into her lap. She was still drinking her mysterious solution nonetheless. ”Hey Hana...yeah this is fun...these drinks are pretty nice too, whatever they are. Can’t tell if what I have here is tea, or soda, they taste so similar sometimes, weird, huh?

Is she for real? tea tastes nothing like soda. ”Do we even have Faygo? And who brings milk tea to a witch party? Ah...actually. It’s probably RC, anyway, hi Hana.” What an odd girl, one minute she seems blue and depressed, the next it’s like she’s wearing a crown and a purple cape thing that kings wear, running the place with her talk of Faygo and such, who even drinks Faygo? Oh yeah, Iris.

”Do I even drink tea?”

"I know, it feels like forever since we all last met up!" Summer chimed back as Calypso pulled her into an overbearing embrace, unable to keep herself from rolling her eyes at how overly affectionate the girl was. It reminded her far too much of her sister, who liked to put on an aura of sweetness and perfection. Although she suspected that Calypso was just a genuinely a happy person, which was somehow even worse.

Luckily for her, the witchling quickly moved on to the prospect of food, Summer shaking her head at the offer to join. "No thanks, I'm not hungry." Smiling disingenuously at the pair as they walked over to the buffet, Summer soon turned back to the table, her eyes scanning over the few others that were beginning to arrive in dribs and drabs. A couple of them seemed to be keeping to themselves and her gaze simply passed over them disinterestedly. She could never understand the desire to hide oneself quietly in a corner.

At least not all of them were so...boring, and she nodded in greeting to Arken as he bounded over to the table. Her mother hadn't specified who she should be nice to, but Summer knew that her family had always tried to get along with the Stones. She figured it had something to do with the fact that they came from old money and lived in what was apparently a beautiful estate. She barely had time to open her mouth to greet him though, before an unfamiliar face had plonked himself directly in the seat across from her. Summer had hoped that this unknown initiate would be interesting...or at the very least hot, but she seemed altogether unimpressed when her dark brown eyes slowly looked him up & down.

"I'm Jeremy Lindall. I was sent to join this coven as an initiate this year by my teachers. It's nice to meet you. I hope we can work well together."

Summer groaned inwardly. It was like some people were just begging her to make fun of them. Holding up a hand to lazily admire her neat manicure, Summer didn't even make eye contact with the newcomer when she eventually replied.

"...Oh, did you say something?" She had, of course, heard everything that Jeremy had said but she figured that it would be far more fun to mess with him. Before she could say anymore however, Alex had interrupted them with his offer to 'introduce him to their peers.' Jesus. Why was everyone being so formal today? And hadn't the new kid been introducing himself to her? She found herself raising her perfectly plucked eyebrows at the older male, clearly unimpressed with his intrusion. In what was exceedingly stereotypical behaviour for Summer; as soon as someone else showed interest, she became extremely territorial, deciding that she instead wanted to claim the new kid for herself.

"Er, sorry about that. I was a bit distracted." She smiled pleasantly as she turned back to Jeremy, the irritated expression having quickly dropped from her face. "It's super nice to meet you anyway. So you're totally new? Like, you've never been to the coven before? Ever? ...How fun!" Summer chimed sweetly, the sudden change in her attitude towards this newcomer probably quite disconcerting. "I'm Summer. My family's been here for generations so I know pretty much everything about everyone. Like Charlie. He's from England...or was it Wales? I don't really remember... Either way, he has a pretty cool accent." She tore her rather predatory gaze away from the new guy as she nudged Charlie in the side with her elbow, practically demanding his attention.

Speaking with: Uaithne @Tracyarmav

Maggie watched as Uaithne effortlessly jumped down to scour the bushes for her book- it must have been his height that gave him a nimble advantage. As he reappeared and carefully handed it up to her as if it was made of glass, she graciously took it, thanking him for retrieving it (even though it was his fault she dropped it in the first place). She leafed through the chapters and tried to figure out where she had left off, as unfortunately the boy was incorrect as to what page she last read. Maggie wished she had invested in one of those magnetic bookmarks when she was last at the library, it would have saved her a lot of time in the long run and in situations like this.

After listening to his commentary on the group, she couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. The crowd may have been intimidating, but that didn’t mean that Maggie had an aversion to any of the other witchlings. “I never said any of you were rabid,” The blonde raised an eyebrow at Uaithne, “And I doubt that this evening's events will change that.” Giving up on finding the correct page and closing the novel, she let it rest on her extended legs. “I could theoretically come and sit with everyone, but I doubt I’d be able to make any progress with all of the chit-chat.”

Maggie’s gaze drifted down to the sundress she was wearing at the mention of it, the bottom hem of the skirt billowing ever so slightly in the breeze. “Umm, thanks... I guess.” She replied uncomfortably, unsure of how to take a compliment from someone other than her mother. The girl was not often one to be the recipient of praise based on her looks, so she brushed it off as just him trying to be nice. Quickly desiring to switch the subject, she slid off of the railing, landing on the balls of her feet and clutching her book so as to not drop it once more. Uaithne made a fair point that she would draw more attention showing up late than walking over now- she hadn’t thought about that.

“Say no more, I’ll read at the table.”

Kate smile at Cassandra "Awww, thanks Cassandra. I think you're the best too." Kate say back to Cassandra and they really did mean it, Cassandra really is best when it comes with curses and all that dark magic stuff that makes Kate wish that they have kinda magic skill. When Cassandra ask Kate if they have any diced sentimentality, Kate smirk at her "What a coincidence, yes I do"

Kate look around to see if their parents and their aunt are looking and to relief, they are still talking to their friends. Kate pull diced out of their pocket, they handed it to Cassandra "I was going to eat them, just in case if the food in here is terrible. But I believe that you can make some badass spells with these" Kate say. Then Kate look at a other person joining the table, a person that they never met before, Kate guess that he is new here. After the new guy named Jeremy introduce himself, Kate rolled their eyes when Summer was trying a little too hard to be friendly to him, it not like Kate hate Summer or anything, Kate just find her annoying, with her pretending being friends with everyone and all.

Kate smile at Jeremy "It's nice to meet you, Jeremy. The name is Kate, your friendly neighborhood potioneer" Kate jokingly say to Jeremy with a wink.
