Hopefully I can participate this time around. I've been looking for some hot mecha action again.

@Synthesis players can use 'next-gen' machines with modifications, so they can modify a Fafnir to their liking, but completely player made machines will use the 'old gen' setups.

And while yes, I will be taking control of the example character, in this rp I will be treating Tigres like another NPC and focus most of my actions on setting things up for other players.

The particular reasoning for the difference in next and old gen machines is simply that this RP/idea is some 3+ years old, and the sample designs I've made for 'old gen' machines are old. Some time during the past year I went and got bored and designed the 'next-gen' machines, which are lore-wise only a few months old, and are essentially cutting edge tech.

Also, it's perfectly possible to make a player made machine that completely outperforms next gen machines- all of the designs I've presented are purposefully unoptimized, and the builder gives you plenty of opportunities to make machines equal and superior to next-gen machines.

@vietmyke Lore-wise I can see the reasoning, but roleplay wise it just doesn't quite appeal to me, it feels limiting. Instead of designing a machine I would like to play and feel equal, I must use old gen parts and manipulate your stats system for maximum potential. In example, I can't have a medium chassis with four cores, because it's "too new", there in being I would have to saddle my machine with unnecessary 'accessory' parts.

As for joining up, well, I guess I'll think about it.

@Synthesis well technically you can have a medium chassis with 4 cores, because that's what they're supposed to have- the 'next gen' medium chassis have 5, but I get your point.

The reality of it is, the RP is balanced around the 'old/current-gen' system and is balanced to give you as much firepower as you'd possibly need for this rp- If for some reason you don't have enough power and weight requirements to put on the weapons/accessories you need/want, chances are you have too many weapons for the chassis you've chosen. It shouldn't feel so much limiting as it should the standard. The next-gen machines give you a little bit more flexibility, but its really only by a factor of 5 power points. If you pop a peek over at the other RP thread you'll see that the players of this RP have even more freedom than the players of the old one- the 7th MAS team players have to deal with reserving power points for operational time.

The next-gen ones are for those that don't want to go through the process of making a machine, but still want to be competitive with player made machines. The vast majority of enemies you will be facing will still be sporting old/current-gen machines, really only enemy aces or elite units will be using next-gen machines, and since this group will be roleplaying as an elite unit themselves, they also have access to next-gen machines.

I see, thank you for clarifying (and also my typo). I will likely join up then, I was just a bit confused for the difference.

For all intents and purposes, players will be creating nex-gen machines without calling them nex-gen.

Is there a next-gen Light chassis? And what would the specs on that be?

@EnterTheHero the Coalition design philosophy generally falls around bulkier units with mobility enhanced by tesla drives- Fafnirs would be among the most maneuverable units in the Coalition arsenal

@vietmykeNoticed this was getting up and running and wanted to run an older character concept by you:

@vietmyke Okay, then. I can work with that.

EDIT: Can we make a modified Fafnir, or do we have to go current-gen for a custom MAS?

Yes, you can optimize a Fafnir, trick it out how you like within reason.

Practically finished, just working on his Fafnir. Let me know what exactly needs to be edited such as timelines/dates/kills/age.

Fafnir is complete, just awaiting review and things I may need to tweak.

Hm? Wouldn't "Modifying" and "Tricking out" A Fanfir pretty much be going through the process of making a machine, but getting to use the upgraded chassis?

Why can't I have a chassis with the extra Core(s) again? Five power goes a long way in this system, I'm trying to create a mech suited to my tastes but unfortunately the creativity is heavily limited by a system of points.

Actually, scratch all that. I've lost interest in this.

@vietmykeJust want to make sure this build checks out. It's pretty much a normal Gladiator at its core, with a few specialized addons and a different primary.

@Aristo the issue isn't with the machine itself, it's just how she has it- and how it's stayed in such good quality after a stint in the FEZ. How long has Alice been a deserter? Because the Gladiators have only been in production for a few months. You can also just imagine how uneasy some Coalition might be fighting alongside a UEE spec ops machine, though I imagine that was sort of the point, wasn't it?

Pretty much; I wanted to play her as the wildcard nobody wants to trust but needs to, in order to get things done. She'd have to prove herself to the others, and overcoming the guilt of the gassing mission and her hatred of the UEE Command would be a significant part of her development.

As for the machine, I haven't really put a finger on how recently she'd gone rogue. My sheet says it's been a few months, but that can be shortened as needed. I think making her defection more immediate in the timeline would be a better way to introduce her - a sudden uneasy element on the team. Conflict makes a story, after all! Her machine certainly may have some wear from past action. Would it be too unfeasible to have her defect after the first few months of production? She'd need to plan her defection for some time, maybe a month or two following the gas incident. Then, right before the RP's start, it'd take time for her to present herself to Coalition authorities and go through their screening processes and receive her assignment.

@Aristo I am indeed a fan of the wildcard idea. However being too recently a new contender would give some pause- no one would allow her to fly with them on such sensitive missions- such as kidnapping a member of the Royal Family.

Of course, she could be the one that presented them with the information a several weeks prior, and they begrudgingly allow her to go with them.

As far as obtaining a Gladiator... It could be a unit that the Coalition black ops captured- and finished analyzing, and therefore no longer need.

@vietmykeMakes sense to me; nobody would let her on without some kind of bargaining chip, and the information concerning these missions just might giver her the needed leverage.

That also works; I assume most machines operate the same basic way, with some deviations, but she'd probably feel more comfortable operating one she was familiar with, forgoing the Coalition mobile armor crash course.
