So they are going to obstruct then? I wonder how that'll play out in the Presidential election.

Barring Obama nominating the ghost of Ronald Regan (which, let's be honest they'd be 70% likely to block that), looks like it. It's funny because when this happened in '68, it was to block Abe Fortas from going from associate justice to chief justice and replacing a retiring Earl Warren. Abe Fortas was shady as shit but Strom Thurmond (Who was born and raised thirty miles away from where I live) mostly raked him over the coals for his civil rights decisions and Jewish lineage. They didn't say that it wasn't right for lame duck LBJ (who decided not to seek reelection at that point) to nominate a candidate, even Thurmond recognized LBJ was within his right as president to nominate someone. Well, LBJ backed off, Warren waited until the new president took office to retire, and Fortas eventually resigned because of that flap. Nixon appointed Warren Burger. He and the justice that took Fortas' place ended up turning Roe V. Wade into a 7-2 decision instead of a much closer ruling.

It's feeling more and more like this year's presidential election is going to turn into a referendum on which party is more fucked up. It's unique in that I can't imagine any of the front runners winning, but one of them obviously has to do it.

More like a goblin, actually:

That's him at 100 years of age when he was still a sitting senator. The inspiration for my Wilbur Helms character.

Thurmond was exactly who I imagined when Helms came up.

Chapa sent me a /r/UK thread and there's some mildly amusing quotes in there.

"Mate you're from fucking Blackpool I'd rather go away to Aleppo for a weekend than that cesspit."

"I love the North, it's so quaintly barbaric."

"What's a Grangemouth? Is that north of the wall?"

He looks like Spongebob in that one episode where he takes off his water helmet inside Sandy's dome.

It's funny because the junior senator from SC, Fritz Hollings, was the young whippersnapper who was just pushing 80. The old joke around here used to be how do you get to become a senator from South Carolina? Stay alive.

In 1993, Hollings told reporters that he attended international summits because, “Everybody likes to go to Geneva. I used to do it for the Law of the Sea conferences and you'd find those potentates from down in Africa, you know, rather than eating each other, they'd just come up and get a good square meal in Geneva.”
Wikipedia

Shit, we need to remember that one for PoW.

Also download Tinder because it's a fucking lifesaver when you go into NYC. When I'm not blacking out drunk in the luxury suites of the Trump Hotel with the fifth richest man in Texas and a Swedish "model" who's way too ugly to be a model like she says, having Tinder girls at NYU, FIT, and Parsons is a good way to not pay for an Airbnb.

Because what millennial pays for hotels anymore?

See I have rural Tinder. Rural Tinder is where 98% of the women are spambots, 1% are women who swipe right and never talk to you, and the last 1% is someone that you talk to, like, go on a date and continue to date to this day. Not as exciting.

Reminds me of Rhode Island Tinder where you have to tell half your matches that you can't actually visit them because you live on a fucking island.
