Empire. Just so much more organised, plus defending Whiterun was so much more fun than attacking Whiterun.

Especially as a ridiculously OP Battlemage.

Oblivion made me fall in love with the Empire. Even without the Septims, my allegiance still lies with there.

I would usually like just ignoring the war so it felt like Skyrim was a land of constant conflict while I explored. It explained all the hostile people running around.

In reality, I am quite fond of the Thalmor and have theories about their rise to power.

I'm curious as to why you're fond of the Thalmor. They're kind of dicks haha.

I don't really like them, more as I'm really intrested in them.

My theory sums it up.

Without going to far into it, I relate Jyggalag's release from bondage (look him up if you have not played the Shivering Isles DLC), to the rise of the Thalmor. They represent an ultimate order in the Tamriel, and I can sense the Daedric Prince's hand in this.

Storm Cloaks every time.

Not only was the Empire corrupt as fuck on numerous levels and subjugated everyone else under their rule, ultimately they bowed down like little bitches and decided to forsake their own beliefs to yield to the fucking Elves ( fuck Elves ) like little bitches.

Fuck the Empire. Skyrim made me lose what little respect I got from Martin in Oblivion. The Imperial Septim lineage is of Nordic descent anyways, so basically Skyrim is the origins of the Empire. To top it off, these people are trying to drive out not only the Elven invaders, but also the Imperial invaders as well, so it's them against the fucking world. I'd look down at everyone as scum if they were trying to take my land as well.

Rebel by nature, fuck the police.

The use of "invaders here".

I really need to get into the right mood to reply to this.

If the next Elder Scrolls games takes place in a Tamriel dominated by the Thalmor, it better be about fucking their shit up.

I would say the Thalmor represent ultimate Chaos in Tamriel and the Empire represents order, if anything.

I'm really tired so sorry that this isn't the best response, but I'll try my best.

Under the Empire a large amount of Tamriel was bound by one power that ruled everyone. They all answered to the empire and the empire did a decent enough job controlling all of the provinces. When the Thalmor came they completely destroyed the Empire's claim to all of it's regions. Skyrim went into rebellion, Hammerfell broke off, the Empire lost the capital for a short time, the blades were exterminated and the Empire could do nothing to help Morrowind.

The Dunmer are now homeless vagrants, the Empire is in shambles, Hammerfell has left, Skyrim is in rebellion, and this is all with the promise that the Thalmor, at any moment, are going to come crashing back down upon the provinces to kil countless more.

They bring order in the manner that they kill a lot of people, but otherwise, they're creating a world crisis.

Every Thalmor I've ever met was a cunt. Khajit made it a point to kill them. My Argonian kissed the ring because that was expected of him, but seriously, in Skyrim context at least, the Thalmor represent the worst of both worlds. They look down on everybody and they exercise Spanish-Inquisition-esque authority on whoever they damn well please.

A lot of that is probably a product of the job -- you wouldn't send your cute, artistic lady elves to ensure military compliance. Still though. I can't even look at one without wanting to stab it.

The Thalmor are devious and scheming. I can respect that. The problem is that they're not capable of being affiliated with, and their hidden intentions make them seem arbitrary.

Empire all the way, but I sympathize with the anti-thalmor sentiment.

What?! They claimed they were the people who stopped the oblivion crisis!

The invasion of Cyrodiil was for far greater purposes than war booty or to impose Elvish religious hegemony.

What happened in Hammerfell was very inconvenient for the Emperor, wasn't it?

Considering the Empire's soldiers nearly executed you at the beginning of the game I have difficulty explaining why you would wind up joining them later on.

Stormcloaks didn't even say you weren't part of them. And considering the player character was found with them, I guess the Imperial Captain got all 'better safe than sorry' and lazy to have you killed. But I'm a biased Empire guy. Plus, Morrowind and Oblivion made me love the Empire, so that;s more to my bias.

Meh, I suppose The Empire/Imperials.

However, I really wasn't that engaged into Skyrim like most people. It was a bit too easy, even with difficulty cranked up at times, and I think the main issue I had with Skyrim was the combat was extremely bland. Most of them you would just win by randomly swinging your preferred weapon of choice with no thought, occasionally raising up a shield if you even had one (Or you was some MLGQuickshotPro and duel-wielded swords because, you know, thatsa what cool cats do these days). Magic was a little more interesting, but a little generic. Of course, there are the Shouts, which are a bit creative for the most part.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by good RPGs like Dark Souls, but oh well. I've been more of a Fallout guy myself when it comes to Bethesda's products.

Rule of thumb, if something hasn't been posted in for a few days, let it lay.
