Akito's eyes travel up slowly to the younger males face as he senses the uncertainty in the man. For a moment at least, the soldier can see beyond the prince and take in the man over the royal. With the same critical eyes that would once feel out his target he now examines Hiro while he's not looking trying to quantify what he sees without letting his own uncertainty cloud his vision. 'He is. . .A beautiful man. . .Who asked for this engagement as much as I did, which was not at all. He may have had more time to see it coming, if he knew of the tradition, however that has given him time to grow bitter over the arrangement. . .It doesn't happen every generation, seeing as there are not always wars, and even when there are, not all wars have heroes. . . .Though, I can not say I feel very heroic. . .'

Glancing down for a moment he lets out a sigh, looking back up a moment later only to meet Hiro's gaze. Fighting his natural urge to drop his eyes down once more he give the prince an honest half smile. “Highness. . .I know you never asked for this, and neither did I. However, like it or not, we are stuck in this, and while for my fellows this gift of raising in the ranks to marry the most beautiful man I have ever seen is something they all envy me for, Right now I am simply lost in a world I don't understand.” As he speaks his hands slips behind his back, standing one more at attention because it is comfortable for him.

He glances down for an instant, trying to steel his resolve to at least finish his thought without fleeing to his father's side. Gazing into the beautiful face he closes his eyes for a moment before opening them again. “I never planned for my future, and right now I am just trying to keep up with everyone else rushing me into it. You have been most kind in letting me take my time here and there, and I think you for that. You may have all the time in the world for your personal matters, and I swear I will do what I can to not interrupt the goals you have set for yourself.” He waves a hand, his smile becoming a little sheepish.

“In short, I have no life, and what is being offered to me. . .No, what is being placed upon me, is over whelming.” His half smile returns even as his false calm begins cracking. 'I better finish before my voice begins sounding like a woman's' “I am a boring nobody, and I am sure you never imagined being forced on someone like me. You have things you like to do, and. . . .Instead of showing me around, how about. . .You let me see what you like? Then, maybe, I can stop acting like some sort of bumbling fool like I am now, since I am just not. . .” His voice finally gives up on him and he devolves into mutters, staring at his feet by the end.

Watching the servants robotically clean became dull, so his eyes landed on Akito to make sure he hadn't inwardly exploded or something. Surprisingly enough, Akito was looking right at him rather than looking at his feet or something other than him. As a royal, it was always important to look the other in the eye. . . Something he learned from his father about strong forces and dominance and the likes. Of course, he wasn't thinking of that now, in fact, he was noticing the simple fact that Akito's eyes were black in color. It was something simple, and yet he had never seen them till now. 'Nothing out of the ordinary, but they're nice.'

Akito's gaze falters and the prince only accepts it as something comfortable to his betrothed. 'He'll learn. . .' Right after the thought, Akito looked back at him causing a small smile to form from Hiro. 'He's gotten some boost of bravery. Well, good for you Akito.' The simple gesture nearly made him miss the shorter man's words. Fortunately, he caught on and gave him his full attention. When Akito paused, Hiro started to respond, but decided to give Akito his opportunity, just in case he began to falter. The confidence in him trickled out slowly, but Hiro held his gentle smile. It was nice that the effort was being made. At least the guy was trying.

More and more, Akito began to falter in confidence and speech, and for some reason, Hironori found it just so adorable. 'He really is trying. How cute.' His calm smile never showed just how adorable it seemed to him, and when Akito finally got too quiet to understand and looked down at the ground, Hiro decided it was his turn to speak. After all, he was probably itching to run away or something. "Despite us both being tossed into all of this, we can at least try to find the good in it, right?" He gave a nod to emphasize the statement before continuing. "I'm sure. . . After this wedding business relaxes. . . You'll be given proper help with how to live this new life you've gotten. My father doesn't plan on giving up his throne anytime soon. We both have plenty of time to learn." He chuckled lightly.

The prince glanced over his shoulder toward his study. The idea of showing his betrothed things that interested him did sound like a good idea to break the ice. Though, the metaphorical ice between them was pretty thick so maybe it wouldn't crack so easily. 'No need to be so pessimistic.' His gaze fell back to Akito and he smiled again. "Good idea. I'm willing to give it a try." Hiro gesture for Akito to follow him before he began to speak. "It's sort of better to show than tell, but in easy terms, I practice, well, magic." He realized he hesitated when he spoke. It wasn't very often he explained his past time to others. He remembered his father having a skeptical view about it before finally deciding it was fine. "Elemental magic. You know, fire, air, earth. . .and those types of things. I've been practicing for a few years and I've managed to get two elements accomplished."

Hiro paused in their trek, nearing his study. "I could demonstrate if you want?" He expected a polite 'no' or a shrug of indifference. Not once did he think Akito would say yes. When he did there was a visible and almost childlike happiness in his eyes. "Alright, this way then." When they reached the room, Hiro closed the door behind them and pushed some of the books to the side. "If I knew there'd be visitors, I would've kept it cleaner." He sat down at the small table from earlier after grabbing a candle. "Well I've only managed to figure out fire and light so. . ." He let his voice drift off and he lit the candle.

For a brief moment, before he began, he glanced over to see if Akito was actually watching. For some reason, he still had doubt that the male really wanted to see. "Well. . ." He started and then put his hand over the fire. It burned for only a split second before disappearing completely. His hand was cupped and he opened a little more to show the small flame resting in his hand. The fire danced in place as if still on the candle, and then as Hiro straightened out his hand, the small flame rose. "Um, tada?" He stared at the levitating flame and then snapped his fingers.

He shieled his eyes as the fire turned into a rather bright light and then disappearing. When it was all over, Hiro's hands were in his lap, and he looked back at the candle, almost as if he was embarrassed to see Akito's reaction. "I can do other things, but it was only a demonstration." He shrugged a little and let his eyes wander to the shelf of random objects.

The mumbling stops when at last the prince decides to speak up and Akito does his best to lift his gaze, at least a little bit, an listen to the man with full attention. He's sure somewhere in there he said something odd or embarrassing, however as the prince simply kept smiling he figure is must not have boon too bad. He nods slowly in agreement with both the need to find the good in their situation, and that eventually someone else will be around to help him learn. 'I bet he really looks forward to that day, when he can pawn be off on others and have his time back to himself. I know royals have responsibilities, but by his won word he live a life more of leisure than of duty'

He knows once the prince becomes king that will change, however as such a though as ruling at his side threatens to make his catatonic he dispels those thoughts for now, instead focusing on the prince and his words while staring at his chest. Noticing him looking away however he glances up, the follows his line of sight, leaning ever so lightly to see around the taller male. When attention returns to him however he straightens up and goes back to staring at the young man's torso. When motioned forward he complies silently, following behind the taller man with smooth even steps. He is quite curious to see what the prince can do. On the battle field he'd learned to work around huge goughs of flame and freezing ice spears, but other than that he has no idea what one would use magic for.

When the prince pauses and asks him if he wants to see he is confused for a moment, thinking that he'd already consented, however after a brief moment he pulls his gaze up to look into the man's eyes and says quietly, “I would love to see your magic.” For a brief moment the prince goes from intimidating monarch to giddy child and Akito manages a small smile before they are off again. He bows lightly as he passes the prince who opens the door for them, watching him scramble about the cluttered room trying to make a space fore him. He murmurs a thank you and takes a seat in the newly cleared space, letting his eyes drift about the room for a few seconds before refocusing on he betrothed.

He keeps his eyes locked on the candle as he takes his place across the table from the soldier. 'Fire and light, two of the most destructive and life giving forces. I wish I could use magic. . .' While anyone can do magic, since he knows he does not have the aptitude Aki knows his wish is an idle one. He watches closely, instinctively wanting to warn him not to burn himself, however his instinct is quickly overridden and he simply watches with a wide, fascinated expression. “Huaaaa. . .” he utters in amazement at the man manipulates the flame. The sound he makes is the same as when he is looking at beautiful art.

His eyes narrow at the sudden light but he doesn't look away, not wanting to miss even a second of the demonstration. As such, it takes him a few seconds for his vision to return to normal after the light vanishes. Ce claps lightly, an honest smile on his lips, a look of amazement in his eyes as he looks to the prince. “That was amazing. Most magic I've seen has been trying to kill me. . .That, that was just beautiful. . .” He murmurs the last word, looking down at his own hand's resting in his lap, the fingers laced together. His tone is honest and his smile genuine. Glancing back up at the prince he can feel a kind of calm settle, knowing that they at least have one thing in common. He may not be able to practice it, but he finds magic fascinating.

Hiro had been too focused to notice the noises of amazement, so he did look fairly surprised when Akito stared at him with an admiring gaze. He blinked and looked down at the table for a moment only to look back at the shorter male when he went further to give a compliment. "Really?" His voice was soft, but he had once more held that childish demeanor from before. It was rare he had ever gotten compliments about his magic studies. The servants didn't count, they had to say positive things- or at least felt required to. His father had not interested himself in his studies besides when he injured himself when he was younger. As sweet as his stepmother was, she didn't really take the time to watch either. She was much more interested in other things anyway, like art and music and occasionally taking a trip to the town.

So, this particular moment made him smile. It was a much happier smile than his normal calm expression. After a few moments, he ran fingers through his hair and looked at the candle. "I didn't think you'd actually like it." 'Well be anywhere near interested really. . .' He pushed the materials to one side of the table and closed the book closest to him and then stood, setting it atop the pile. He took his place back on the floor after he cleaned a bit more and then gave a small shrug. "Most aren't. And by most, I mean the Emperor and Empress. The servants, it's hard to say considering they normally have to be positive I suppose." Hiro caught the mention of magic trying to kill him, but he assumed it meant that Akito had tried it once before. Or someone messed up near him. Not once did he think others would use it in the war, so he thought to ask about it.

He set his hands in his lap, holding his legs. "Hm, well look at that. We do have something that intrigues us both." He chuckled and with a slightly encouraging voice, he added, "I can show you again if you like. Whenever I'm around here."

He reached over and poked at the bowl of water. "Unfortunately, those are the only two elements I've accomplished so far. But eventually. Eventually I'll get the others." There was a determination in his voice that trailed off once more. He didn't want the awkward silence to ensue, so he tried to keep the conversation going and appeal to Akito. "The soldiers don't try and use magic against others as a weapon?"

The almost startled look on the other man's face actually helps Akito calm down a little, a bit of his true feelings seeming to finally shine through as he follows the shock up with a smile. Still nervous however all he can do is nod and murmur, “Yes, it was lovely.” He lets his gaze wander around the room, snapping back to the prince when he speaks before going back to examining the room. 'I don't see why they would not be interested. Even though father knows nothing of animals and art, he at least would sit with me sometimes and talk about them. . .' He smiles a little wider and nods with the offer to be shown again. “That would be nice.” His voice is soft, but not quite as timid as before. Having something in common is nice for the poor soldier.

'I don't doubt you there. You have the determination and the time to master them all. Most magic users can only do a few elements at most since they take so long to learn and they still need to make a living. You on the other hand won't have responsibilities that will take you away from your studies overly long for quite some time according to you' When silence falls once more Akito tries to some up with something to say, however Hiro soon brings up a new subject and for a moment Akito panics on the inside. Having determined that he doesn't want to talk about the mages he's killed, he has to think of how to talk around that.

Looking back to the prince his gaze drops and his timidness seems to return. “Once a year a mage would come around and test all the new soldiers of the right age group for magical aptitude. If a soldier showed promise they would be taken away for training and returned after they had mastered enough to be useful on the battlefield. Our unit never had a magic user, though, we did go up against quite a few during the war.” He fidgets a bit before going on. “Our enemy used magic more often than our side, but we had a fair few powerful mages.” His smile returns, though a bit dimmer and he looks back up at Hiro briefly. “I was tested and found wanting, though I never lost my fascination with the craft.” Coughing lightly he looks over at the water and without thinking murmurs, “If I recall the natural progression properly then the next element that should be learned would be wind. . .”

Hiro almost immediately noticed the change in Akito's demeanor. He seemed to relax for some time until he posed the war question. That was a little odd considering, it was something he was familiar with. 'Maybe he just doesn't like talking about the matter with me. . .' He made note of it, and quietly listened to Akito's soft voice. Hearing that people did use magic against each other was interesting. Hiro always considered magic, a more peaceful thing. But then again, he had no reason to ever fight. "Oh? You've tried too?" His attention turned to that instead, only for Akito to say he wasn't any good. The prince thought about offering to teach him, but decided against it. He wouldn't have been a very good teacher anyway.

Instead, Akito mentioned his own studies. "Wind? After light and fire? You think so?" Maybe that was why he was having such a tough time learning the other elements. He hadn't even thought about trying wind though. It seemed like a really tough one to learn, so he pushed it off. Maybe he should have tried it. Hiro turned his head towards the books. "I'll have to try that sometime." He wasn't quite aware of the natural progression of the elements due to being self taught. His books were always out of order too, so that didn't help him much. "What exactly is the natural progression?" As Akito explained, he quite informally crawled over to the stack of books on the floor and reordered them as Akito spoke. "There, maybe that should help."

Returning back to his original spot, he looked around the room. "Well. . . There's not much needed from us. Lunch is probably another hour or so away, so. . ." Hiro decided to show off a little more of his magic. He repeated the candle actions up until the flame was floating above his hand. Instead of it simply floating there, this time he created images out of the flame. It started as a rose and then a star, and then a few other small items. "Hm. . ." Hiro slowly stretched out the flame and began to create what looked like a tiger's head. It was a little large, and the flamed sparked and danced. He kept full concentration on the show, only to be thrown off by a sudden knock. Normally, in the quiet he would've been used to it, but being so focused on trying to keep things perfect, he lost that focus.

The creation dispelled quickly, letting a few loose flames fall as it did. One so happened to fall on Akito's leg, but before the fire could settle and actually cause damage, Hiro quickly patted his leg and made it disappear as well. "Sorry about that."

The servant slowly opened the door after he heard Hiro call him in. "The Emperor and the Empress request your presence for lunch." He quickly bowed and waited to see if he was needed with anything else.

Akito nods with a half smile. “Yes, according to the element wheel, wherever you start there is a natural walk around the wheel that will make learning easier. . .” Before being rejected as a mage, the soldier had done some studying, and at this very moment is very glad he did. 'He's right, this is something we can talk about without me feeling completely out of my element, forgive the pun' With a smile he nods once more at Hiro's question. Closing his eyes so he can see the wheel clearly he bites his lip gently, trying to recall it exactly.

“If you started at either light or fire and now know them both, the next one for you to learn is wind, which stokes the fire, and after that earth which turns the wind back. They are opposing forces, but when moving to the other side of the wheel there is bound to be friction. Wind and earth cause the least friction to one another.” Taking a slow breath, he moves on. After is water, which is cradled by earth and wares it down, and the last in the wheel for you would be dark, which swallows everything else.” He opens his eyes, looking rather calm with a faint smile on his lips.

“I don't know much beyond that, the images more easy to recall than the words.” Looking at his hands he fidgets a bit, watching Hiro rearrange a stack of books out of the corner of his eye. “A lot of people are encouraged to start with light since the most frictioning forces are light and dark, Starting anywhere else on the wheel means having to learn light right after dark which could strain all your other masteries. . .Not that I've met many who know more than two. I think it's amazing really. . .” Looking back up as the prince takes his seat he does his best to keep his calm and look at Hiro's face.

Akito watches with open delight as the prince proceeds with another show, clapping and offering the prince smiles with each new design. He'd never imagined magic being used so creatively and somewhere in the back of his mind wonders if one day they could sculpt together, perhaps use his magic to help Akito create the images in his head. The knock on the door makes him jump slightly, his hand going to his weapon, his head whipping around to look. Despite being able to recognize the noise rather quickly, Akito had grown up in tents. No doors to knock on making the sound a new addition to his understanding of the world.

Already on edge the prince's sudden movement, not to mention touching him after a faint burning feeling, Akito reacts on instinct. His right hand snaps out and grabs the young man's wrist and with an expert tug and twist he turns Hiro around, pulling his arm up behind his back in a slightly painful manner. However the second he hears the servant speak he snaps out of his funk, his heart fit to explode in terror at what he's just done. With a panicked, “Forgive me.” he releases the prince and flees the room, expertly dodging the servant and racing like lightning through the hallways. Without thinking he makes his way back to the outdoor training area, but he doesn't stop there.

Not a dozen paces away from one side is the boarder of the thick forest growing around the palace and grounds and without thinking he flies off into it, not stopping until the darkness is all around him. Like a monkey he races up a barely visible tree, going high enough to see a faint light above and still be on a branch that can support him. As soon as he stops moving, he curls into a little ball and tries not to imagine what's going to happen to him for attacking, or at least painfully restraining, a member of the royal family.

Just as he was about to sit back, he was suddenly grabbed and turned. He let out a small yelp as his arm was pulled behind his back quite forcefully. "Ow. . ." Before he could say anything else, Akito was gone. Hiro rubbed his shoulder and then his wrist before standing up. The servant had saw what happened and his eyes widened as he rushed over to the prince.

"Your highness! Are you okay? Do you need me to fetch the Emperor? Or a medic?" He carefully reached out, but hesitated in grabbing his arm to check. The prince held his arm out and with the little medical knowledge the servant did have, he checked to make sure nothing was broken. "It feels fine. . . But-"

"It's fine. It's just a little sore, but that will wear off. It's okay, I promise. . . It was probably just an accident." The prince stopped rubbing his shoulder and looked in the direction Akito went in. "He's fast."

"An accident?!"

Before the servant could say anything else, Hironori looked at him. "Tell the my father that I'll be running a bit late. No, don't tell him what happened. You can just say Akito ran off. . . Because he got nervous or something. No need getting anyone else involved okay? Akito is probably punishing himself enough." The servant bowed and went to deliver the message. He sighed and walked off in the direction Akito went. Despite having such a large home, he felt the shorter male would have more than likely hid outside. After all, he didn't feel comfortable anywhere else besides the training grounds. . . "Maybe that's where he went."

Hironori picked up his pace until he made it into the training room. 'Not here?' "Hm. . " He looked around and then went outside. Still, there was no one in sight. With a slight huff, he turned and caught the attention of a few servants. "Have you seen Akito anywhere?" Two of them shook their heads and apologized, but the third spoke up.

"He ran to the training grounds not too long ago your highness. He couldn't have came back in without anyone noticing. . . After all, there are many servants here." She bowed afterward and the the waited for his response.
"Hm. . . You don't think he went off the grounds do you?"

"It's likely, but I don't suggest you going out alone. It's dangerous."

"Don't worry. You the will know where I am. And if I don't return within the hour. . . Or at least twenty minutes you can send servants to find me." He seemed satisfied with the idea and walked off. The servants gave nervous glances towards each other but complied with his wishes. One planned to stay behind in the training area and wait out those twenty minutes just to be sure. She watched as the prince moved off the grounds and pauses at the thick forest.

"Akito?" He called out to the trees. He didn't hear anything so he ended up moving further. He realized that the deeper through the forest he went, the darker it became. A small orb grew in his hand, producing a bright light in order for him to see. However, there was still nothing but trees and it was eerily quiet as well. "Akito? If you're going to panic and run away, do you mind just hiding in the palace?" He tugged his robe off a low branch but continued on. He looked back, hoping that straight ahead would be the direction to get back home. It might have even been a good idea to turn around at this point consisting he had no idea where he was.

"You're not going to get in any trouble Akito. I'm sure it was just an accident. And it's very impolite to keep people waiting when they called for a meal. . ." Hironori sighed and turned around, slowly heading back towards the way he came- or at least hoped it was the way he came. The prince moved slow to give Akito the chance if he was there, and he was also trying to find familiarity in the darkness, which wasn't going so well. So, he just kept going straight.

Having been a soldier most of his life Akito has a good understanding of the things that can be done to a human body to inflict pain and death. His mind races through all of them, unable to even consider that he's not in deep trouble from his actions, too much of his childhood spent hearing horror storied of angered royalty. Though many of his fellows did it mostly to tease him, they never told him that they were teasing and if there was anyone he would take at face value, it would be the men in his unit. His breathing is harsh from the panic, the run and climb not even a minor exertion for the youth, but it still sounds like he's just finished running ten miles.

Feeling pricks in the corners of his eyes he presses his palms over them, desperate to not start crying at the very least. 'I messed up, I seriously messed up, but. . .I could explain, if he's willing, and, he doesn't seem like an unreasonable man, even if he hates war. . .It was just my instincts, did his father do the same thing? I overreact to things, I know I do, but, I just. . . .' His body trembles lightly, his arms wrapped around his knees. He can feel the rough bark against his back even through the two layers of cloth, almost like the forest is reaching out to touch him. For one wild moment he thinks of fleeing, dropping his name and title and just leaving the country. However that wild thought passes quickly and as soon as it does he can feel himself calming down slightly.

'No, no. . . .I will take responsibility for this. . .I will talk to him and explain, and the emperor and empress if the servant has already reported this. I am no coward, I will not flee. Life has handed this to me, and. . .' He pauses in his thoughts, faint non foresty sounds from below catching his attention. Taking his hands off his eyes he rubs them gently, the slight moister drying quickly as he blinks rapidly. However his eyes go a little wide when the odd appearance of a light below causes him to stare. It doesn't take a firework engineer to realize what that light must be.

Quite as could be he climbs a little lower, watching the light carefully and letting his eyes adjust. The prince doesn't spot him and after a moment Akito freezes as the man calls out. 'Not get in any trouble? He's more worried about being late to the meal?' His heart skips lightly, thinking that maybe he really will be forgiven for slipping up. He knows he will have to tell his father which will earn him a clout, but at least he may have some advice on avoiding his natural instincts like the one that got him in trouble this time, even if it was only with his own conscience.

Dropping silently to the ground some distance behind Hiro he follows slowly, wondering where the prince is heading. He moves along silently. His specialty in his unit required him to be able to stalk like this, though at this point he's not quite sure why he's doing it. He is no coward, and he's already decided to talk to the man, but for some reason he can not bring himself to approach him. Just as he begins to think he'll never build up the nerve he spots the prince about to step into a rabbit hole and quick as a fox he darts forward and gently takes his arms, stopping him mid step and pulling him back slightly.

Not needing to be mistaken for a bandit he lets go quickly and drops to a knee. An instant later the words come tumbling out. “I am so sorry highness, I did not mean for that to happen I pray it did not hurt to much and does not pain you still. My training has lead to many responses I have little control over, and when the servant knocked, then the door moved, then you laid a hand on me. . .My nerves are so frayed right now, but I never imagined I would do that. I know you say I am not in trouble, but I still beg your forgiveness for my action.” His breathing has picked up again and it takes him a moment to realize he's rambling. When he does however he falls silent so Hiro can get a words in edgewise but not before murmuring, "Also, please be more careful. You almost stepped in a rabbit hole."

Hiro hummed softly to fill the silence. The orb of light was steady in front of him as he continued to walk back the way he came. 'To run off like that, he must be panicking to near death. . .' Just as he was walking, suddenly hands were on him and Hiro had a mild panic attack. The orb of light vanished when he whipped around to see who had grabbed him. When the light sparked back to life he heaved a sigh to see Akito in front of him. "Geez. . ." He breathed, and then realized Akito was on his knee. Unsure why, Hiro let the male speak. Realizing it was an apology, the prince nodded, even if the other didn't see. What got his attention the most was the fact that Akito was able to see a rabbit hole from such a far distance. He turned around, moving the light farther down. "Well how about it. . . There really was a rabbit hole here. I could've twisted my ankle or something. You have really good eyesight, you know?"

Realizing the situation at hand, Hironori lifted up his sleeve and put it out for Akito to see. "It's fine. Nothing is broken. And the red mark is fading. It doesn't hurt anymore." He reassured and then nodded. "I forgive you, relax. It was an accident." He looked around the dark area. "You're pretty fast too. This place is pretty compact. Difficult to run around...Hm." Hiro seemed to go into his own little world for a moment. "Alright, let's get back. I haven't been gone for a full hour, but the servants are probably in a panic." This time, he hopped over the rabbit hole he nearly fell into.

"By the way," The prince looked over his shoulder, suspecting Akito had been following him. "The servant told my father you ran off because you panicked. He doesn't know about the little mistake." His attention turned ahead to watch where he was going. "No need for extra attention to things that can easily be resolved." The light in his hand split into two. One moved a little lower towards his legs in order to see the ground better. But after a few feet it vanished. Despite his minor talent, the magic did take up a lot of his energy. The light dimmed making it harder for him to see. The fact that he could barely see made him slow down as well. The last thing he wanted to do was run into anything.

"What an interesting day." He mused to himself as he went through the day that had past. Funny enough, it was just now at its half mark. This day was dragging along longer than he suspected it would. It hadn't been terrible and it was pretty eventful. Hironori could only imagine what the next day would bring when his father and mother tried teaching the warrior the ways of royals. The idea of Akito being so awkward made him chuckle lightly. The poor male was already awkward enough, and only thinking about his reaction to the Emperor and Empress in his face more than usual seemed like something that would kill him. He started to wonder if his dad acted the same way when he was learning about royalty. . . But he also figured his father wasn't as shy as Akito. The man was always so energetic, even for his age now.

Another thing had occurred to him as well. 'Hopefully it's just my imagination, and this walk doesn't seem like it is taking longer than before. . .'

Akito remains still and silent at the prince's comments, too focused on waiting to be forgiven to even acknowledge he's spoken. His eyes remain on the ground until Hiro's arm comes into view. His stomach nearly drops out of him at the sight of the mark, his breath stilling. Though only for an instant, as the prince forgive him in the next breath, Akito realizes he needs some serious discipline. 'If I can not turn off the warrior in me, this will happen again. I will hurt him, again. . .I don't. . . .I don't want to hurt him. . .' For the first time an actual tender thought passes through his heart for someone other than his father or his pet.

The moment passes, but the feeling stays and as he comes to his feet there is a new determination in his eyes. 'I hurt him because of fear. I can not be afraid like that, ever again' He begins planning just how to desensitize himself to common happenings in the palace without hesitation, several ideas coming to mind. “I'm use to these conditions.” he murmurs while Hiro seems distracted. With a slow nod he follows behind the prince, watching him trying to use his magic to see better. 'He's actually making things worse. The palace is in a different direction' He is distracted for a moment when the prince says what he had the servants tell the emperor.

“Thank you.” he murmurs, wondering next how to bring up the idea of going the right way. 'He seems so confident, so sure, even though he is out of his element. He is a princeling. They are not forest folk. . .' He has to agree with the interesting day bit, but instead of responding to that he instead walks up behind the prince once more. Unable to trust his voice he reaches out with both hands. One takes hi arm to still him while the other slips forward to close the prince's palm, cutting off the light. “Shhhhh. . . .” he says softly, waiting for his eye to adjust. He already knows which way is out, his sense of direction quite keen, but he doesn't want to just show the prince out, he wants to give the prince the chance to figure out what he's doing.

The difference in lighting is so subtle however that only one trained to operate in the darkness would be able to detect it. Despite his natural instinct to walk apart, to remain separate from others even when working together, Akito move from behind the prince to his side and slips an arm around his waist to guide him. Turning to the right he takes it slow, almost feeling the ground with his feet before each step just to make sure he doesn't walk the prince into something. When at last the light becomes evident he speeds up a little, but it isn't until it is easy to see the ground that he lets Hiro go and takes half a step away to walk a little distance apart from the younger male. Once out Akito notes that they are a good hundred yards from where they entered, glancing off to the right at a servant's cry before taking the chance to admire the small garden they walked out into.

Hironori wasn't sure at this point of where they were, but before he could pause completely, Akito grabbed his arm. "Hm?" Though he was wondering more so why his light was cut off. The prince was silenced and he gave a childish pout. He obeyed without hesitation however, and looked towards Akito as he slipped a hand around his waist. A sly comment was at the tip of his tongue, but he decided to not break the man's concentration. As they slowly walked through the thick trees, he looked around spotting only obvious things like the trees and large objects. He was guided through the forest, with obvious realization that he was going the wrong way.

'How sweet, he doesn't want to tell me I was going the wrong way. . . He could've just told me, but oh well. And this is the closest he's been to anyone now that I think about it.' Hiro let's himself be guided this way and that until finally in the distance, light could be seen. The prince only gave a content sigh before quickening his pace. "Very nice. And good timing too." He noticed the servant who had stayed behind approaching the two. Just for humor's sake, and because it was kind of necessary, Hironori turned and gave Akito a warm embrace. "I would've been lost in there forever if it weren't for you!" The prince hid his smirk and gave Akito a small peck on the cheek. "Thank you very much." He let go and looked at the servant who stopped a few paces in front of them.

"Your highness! Are you- are you two alright!?" She gave a worried glance between the two and waited.

"I am never better! Of course, that's thanks to Akito. Can you tell my father we're headed to him now?"

"With haste sir!" She quickly bowed before scurrying off to relay the message. When she made it to the dining area, the servant girl quickly bowed. "A message from Prince Hironori." The Emperor raised an eyebrow and gestured for her to speak. "He says that he and his betrothed are on their way. There seemed to have been a mishap and Akito guided the Prince out of the forest to safety." She figured the Emperor would want a good explanation as to why his son and betrothed were late.

Before the Emperor could think of something to say, the Empress clasped her hands together and grinned. "How wonderful! He's already keeping our prince out of harm's way. They must be getting along quite well, right?" The servant looked at the Empress with wide eyes. She didn't know the answer, so she relied on what she saw.

"W- Well, I did see Prince Hironori hug then kiss his betrothed on the cheek, but that was it before I was sent to relay this message." The Empress only beamed in delight and then dismissed the servant back to her duties.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

"Come now, we should really get going." Hiro smiled and took Akito's hand. This was his element. He definitely knew the palace like the back of his hand, and so he hurried the two through the large building, stopping at the door just to compose his attire. He dusted off a stray leave off of Akito's back before gesturing towards the door, where a servant stood, waiting to open them. "Well, shall we?" Hironori smiled, knowing what his little 'antics' would have caused. If anything, it should've at least deterred their thoughts from Akito running away in a panic.

He only has a few seconds to look around at the short, squat trees, barely tall enough to sit under, and to listen to the trickle of the water in the small stream running through it as it tumbles down a mini waterfall before suddenly there are arms around him and he has to lock his body to to keep from jumping out of his skin. He relaxes after a moment, the prince's exaggerated words causing him to smile and flush slightly, his gaze falling to the ground. He flushes even deeper red at the kiss but manages a soft, “Was nothing. . .” before his voice fails him. He listens to their exchange silently, glancing up a couple times to the woman's worried face. As she runs off he watches her go, convinced that she was more worried about him being with the prince than at the fact he went into the woods and got lost.

~*~*~*~*~

'It's not like him to be late, but after that servant told us about his running off I got the feeling that he would be' The general muses, watching the two royals look rather at ease despite the report. 'I'm sure there is more to this. Akito would not just run off for any simple thing and that servant looked near panic. He must have done something. . .I hope it wasn't too bad. . . .' He is just about to ask if he may be excused to go look for Aki when another servant comes racing in, but this one looks more relived than worried. As she speaks he smiles slightly at the image, even as he feels sorry for the youth. 'I bet he turned red as a rose at that kiss' Then suddenly his mind turns to where she said they two of them actually were. His worry returns. He knows his adopted son only seeks complete solitude when he is really hurting.

~*~*~*~*~

It isn't until Hiro takes his had that he realizes he's staring at the girl's back far longer than necessary and his flush gains more fuel. He almost wants to ask politely for the prince to not hold his hand like that, but he bites his tongue, letting him be the guide now that they are back where the prince belongs. ' It is only fair. I got overly close with him in the woods, where I am more at home. If he wishes to guide me now, I shall not begrudge him that' He has to stretch his legs a bit, the prince being taller and all, but as Akito is use to being shorter than most he has no problem keeping up. When at last they get to their destination he stills, letting Hiro do his thing without fuss, and doing his best to banish at least a little of his flush.

He nods at Hiro's question which the servant takes as the cue to open the door. He follows at Hiro side as they walk into the same hall they ate in that very morning. 'After the day I've had thus far, it seems like forever ago. . .'

“Ah, there you are boys!” The emperor's voice booms. Akito's eyes snap up for a moment to look at the emperor before turning instead on to his own father.

It is clear from the man's expression that he is worried about his son, but as it always has been they communicate silently to speak on it later. The captain is sitting a little closer to the head of the table this time, but still several seats down to denote his station. Akito takes the same seat as before but waits for his betrothed to sit first out of respect. Glancing over at the empress he can feel himself almost cowering under her knowing gaze and quickly diverts his attention to his empty plate. 'I vowed to relax, but I think I'll start with the one person I actually have to be comfortable with sooner rather than later. . .'

Hiro walked into the room with a smile, more so because of how much Akito was blushing. 'So cute.' He mused and nodded to his father as his loud voice penetrated the silence as it normally did. The prince took his seat and watched as Akito took his. "So! What were you two doing that had to hold us up for lunch?" Despite knowing they were out in the forest, he couldn't help but speak rather suggestively and tease the two of them. Hiro chuckled lightly and watched as the servants began placing food down.

"Oh stop, you're embarrassing the poor boy!" The Empress smiled gently and looked at Akito. "Are you alright dear?" She quietly thanked the servant who put her food down in front of her and Akito.

"Pardon me sir. Did you need a small plate for your pet?" The servant had politely waited for Akito to stop addressing the Empress before he spoke.

While Akito was in conversation with his stepmother and a servant, more than likely being coddled by the former, Hironori looked at his father to answer him. Though before he could, the Emperor decided to add on to his teasing remarks. "I mean, you must've done something to got him all worked up like that." This earned him a light swat from his wife and he chuckled. "Alright, alright. My apologies."

Hiro smiled and thanked the servant for his food. As usual, he never had a large lunch thanks to the large breakfast from before. All meals were made in quantity just in case people were invited unexpectedly, or someone had a large appetite. The Emperor had noticed this early in the young man's life, commenting how he had been just like his mother. Simple things made the two so similar, along with his features that he had gotten from her as well. "If you must know I was just showing my magic to him." Hiro's voice was enough to snap his father out of his slight daydream.

"Ah, so you scared him away? Ha, I was hoping for a much better answer." The Empress rolled her eyes towards her husband's silliness, but smiled.

"They just met. Give them sometime to get acquainted. I'm sure you weren't immediately comfortable either when you first stepped into royalty."

Even after working so had to control his flush Akito is slave to his shyness, or so it seems as all it takes is a suggestive tone to make it flare up again. He coughs, dropping his gaze to his hands which are holding tight to his hakama. 'He is as brazen as most of my unit. They were all talking like this before I left. It's like the only thing most soldiers think about is. . . .that. . .' He breaths slowly, looking to the empress with a strained smile when she addresses him. She gives him a rather understanding and sympathetic look, though it is clear that she would be delighted if they were already “getting along that well”.

With a soft cough he nods. “I am fine highness, really. I've just. . .It's a lot to take in and I'm still getting use to things, and. . .Truthfully I am not quite sure how to speak above my station. . .Even if that will be my own station soon.” His eyes drop and she smiles wider. She's always been a member of royalty so she can't understand, but she prays that he'll one day find his way into the right mindset like her dear husband has. He wasn't around to see him at this awkward phase in his life, but she's sure he had problems all his won with learning how to “be royalty”. He looks to the servant for several seconds before nodding. “Yes, thank you, that is, if it's alright. . .?” He looks to the empress.

“Yes, of course!” she says with delight, wanting very much to see the little guy again. With the okay from both the soon-to-be prince and the empress he sets out a plate and fills it with little bits of food he thinks Hoko might like.

Akito doesn't miss the continued innuendo about intimacy but does his best to focus on other things as to not exacerbate his condition. Rubbing a hand over the lump in his Obi he says softly, “Hoko. Time to eat.” The lump moves a little, settles, then with an almost snake like motion the little creature slithers out and settles on Aki's knee. Following Akito's finger he watches as it taps the smaller plate. Without hesitation it begins pawing through the food, pulling out what really appeals to him first and begins munching happily. The empress coos at the sight, beginning to eat slowly as well.

When he hears the exchange about magic, the tone of the emperor's voice making it clear what he thinks of his son's hobby, the soldier begins understanding why Hiro was so shocked at how much he enjoyed the display. He waits until the empress is done reprimanding him and him simply grunting in reply to actually speak up on the matter. “Actually highness I really enjoyed watch him magic display. It was very beautiful and had nothing to do with why I fled.” He knows that is not completely true as the flame had lead to Hiro's hand on his leg which prompted his response, but in his own mind , the magic had no real fault and there's no point in fudging around with minor details.

The emperor gives him a dubious look, obviously not believing him, but more for how much he enjoyed the magic rather than the dismissal about the part it took in his mad dash. Hoko chatters happily, rubbing against Aki's cheek before curling up to chew on a hunk of dried fruit. Akito drags his eyes up to the ruler, a set look in his gaze he's never shown the man before which gives him pause. “I have always found magic beautiful and fascinating and only wish I could share in his gift in some capacity beyond observer.” His gaze drops as he adds, “I fled because of my own shy foolishness. He did nothing wrong.”

The captain smiles slightly, proud to see Akito showing such courage and determination despite his obvious discomfort with all of this new input. The empress smiles, impressed and pleased to no end that now her son at least has someone to share his gift with who has some real, true interest in it. The emperor on the other hand isn't sure what to make of the youth. 'Of all things to suddenly grow bolder over, defending such a silly past time like that. Hironori won't even have any practical use for the skills as he's never going to fight' Having never had any real interest in magic, he seriously believes there is no use for it outside the battlefield.

Hiro merely looked down at his food, taking a bite when his father accused him of scaring Akito with his magic. His eyes moved to the furry little creature that resided in Akito's clothes. Having not seen it since breakfast, the prince completely forgot about it. Now that it had its own plate he didn't have to worry about the creature crawling on him unexpectedly. The prince looked quite surprised when Akito spoke up, and then even speaking up about the craft. He couldn't hide the smile from Akito's actions, so he simply took another bite of what he had been eating. 'How sweet of him. Of all the things he could speak up about . .'

The group grew silent for some time, indulging in the meal. However, the Empress decided to speak up, not wanting the silence to draw out too long. "So, Akito, I've been thinking about the wedding and I was thinking of what colors we should use! Of course, I have ideas in mind, but I'd love to know what color you liked. For ideas of course." Hironori coughed lightly and glanced at his stepmother.

"It's only the first day. . . What happened to giving us time to get acquainted?" He pushed his now empty bowl aside, letting a servant quietly take it for him. The Empress smiled and waved her hand at him as of shushing him.

"The wedding can't be postponed! You two have all week to get acquainted. I think you two will be a fine couple." She was full of happiness and optimism about the whole situation. In fact, she seemed to be the most excited about the wedding considering she was the one to bring it up multiple times. "Oh, could we dress up your cute little pet too? It would adorable!" The prince sighed, a little louder than he planned and looked away when his father turned his gaze from his babbling wife.

"A day is hardly enough to start assuming things." Hironori muttered softly. Despite not immediately hating Akito, he still didn't like the tradition. It was just. . . unfair in his eyes. What if he didn't want to get married? What if he didn't even want to uphold such an important title?

The Emperor spoke up this time. "Now, don't go complaining about this again. We've discussed this before. Tradition is set in stone. And you won't be the one to break it. Why must you be so difficult? Just accept things as they are and be happy! You have your magic after all, I'm allowing you that silly hobby of yours." The Empress looked a little worried, but stayed silent and watched as Hironori sighed again.

"Seeing that I'm done, I'll be excusing myself. Thank you." The prince stood and walked off, deciding to find one of the more floral indoor gardens to sit in. After some time walking, he decided to go to the one that his mother loved so much. The most significant thing about the garden besides the miniature waterfall, were the deep reds and purples of the flowers that decorated it. He laid under the one blossoming tree that was there and sighed. "I know I'm going to have to accept this..." He mumbled and picked up a few of the petals that had scattered on the ground.

Akito glances up for a moment to see the prince smiling before his looks back to his food. 'I would find my actions kind of endearing if it wasn't for the fact that I would have defended the craft no matter who it was that was being talked down upon. I never knew there were people out there who were so close minded on the subject of the magical arts. . .Well, that's not true. . .' Several soldiers who'd never met magic users on the battlefield, or those who only saw it as a weapon and nothing more. They had always confounded Aki, and now knowing the emperor himself may very well be one of those men the young soldier can feel his agitation grow.

However as the silence stretches on, another thing he will have to get use to since in his old life there were almost always at least some voices present even if they were distant, Akito can feel his calm returning. He watches Hoko eat with a calm smile, petting the beasts soft back when it shifts to grab more food. When the empress turns and poses her question he freezes for a second before actually trying to figure out how to answer. He has his favorite colors of course, but would any of them actually suit a wedding? However before he can even reply the royal family seems to have a very tame is heart felt argument.

Hoko joins him in watching the flow of conversation, though the beast for different reasons than the human. The little critter has been around humans all his life and he recognizes when there is the potential for a fight that he will either have to be in, or flee from. Akito on the other hand is simply lost for the most part, trying to make sense of what they are ll talking about. Until it clocks. His eyes return to his food and he eats slowly, realizing that this is none of his business. 'All of this may have thrown me, but I am willing to go through with it, without question, because it is what I know is right for the kingdom. . . .At least, that is what has always worked, so I trust in that. I may not be the right choice in my own head, but. . .'

It isn't until Hiro practically storms out that the soldier looks back up, watching his betrothed leave. Hoko slithers back under his obi, full tot he brim with food and now intent on a nice long sleep. The empress lets out a small disappointed noise and is about to bring up the idea of colors again however she pauses as Akito rises to his feet. “Just let him be lad. He gets like this sometimes. You'll get use to it.” The emperor says dismissively, tucking into his food again. Akito simply nods vaguely and wanders down the table until he's standing across from his father. “Captain, may I speak with you?” The general, who'd overheard everything of course, nods and stands.

The two bow to the royals and wait to be excused. The emperor looks like he wants to say something, but at a look from his wife he motions for them to go. Once the two are out of the room the emperor lets out a long sigh, his wife stroking his arm gently. “It's okay dear, I'm sure the boy just has something important to talk about that's for family only.”

“We are going to be family soon!” He replies, watching the corner they vanished around.

“He hardly knows us dear. Give him some time. You already have more in common that he and Hiro. . .” The emperor interrupts here there.

“And another thing, I though he was over all that foolishness! And bringing it up with Moronaga right here.” He goes on to rant for several long minutes while his wife dutifully pats his arm and offers her opinion when and where she can. She does not fully agree with him, and says so, but in the end she knows he's just blowing off steam.

~*~*~*~*~

The two men walk slowly down the hallways, their passage only marked by a low murmur coming from the smaller one and a few short glances from the servants they pass. Quietly, in a voice only his father can hear, Akito pours out his thoughts, feelings, and tells the man everything that has happened in the short times they've not seen each other, both in the morning, and the time just before lunch. The general listens silently, keeping his eyes on the floor as he takes it all in, letting his mind conjure the images of the encounters to his head.

'He grew up in such a way that any time he's not surrounded by his comrades he has to be on high alert least someone try and kill him. He has no one to protect him here, though eventually I suppose that would be his husband's place. As a magic user, perhaps he can teach the boy to use it for more than pretty light shows, but for now, I understand. . .I at least had a childhood. One away from war and combat. . .' He lets out a soft sigh as Akito finishes his tale, glancing over at his adopted son with a sad kind of look. Carefully he reaches out and takes hold of Akito's shoulder, stopping him.

The boy is tense, his body tuned up like an over wound spring. Just standing still seems too much for him as he trembles slightly. Before he can flee however the sound of metal on wood fills his ears and draws his attention away from his own internal turmoil. Without a though his own sword is clear of it's scabbard and the two men fall into a fighting stance. From down the hall a servant spots the scene, racing forward to ask them to take it to the training ground but after only a few steps he pauses. Their movements are slow, smooth, almost like a dance, and every time it looks like the blades are about to touch the stop, barely a millimeter apart.

This old practice has long been used as a morning routine for most of the unit and Akito has never missed a session, except, of course, this morning. The familiarity washes through him, relaxing his body, and for the first time today he feels at home surrounded by all the decadence and high class finery. When at last they come to a stop, the captain taking the practice victory, both blades clock back onto their sheathes and the two share a moment of complete silence. As soon as the moment passes the captain turns to the servant and offers a slight bow. “Sorry if we disturbed anyone.” Captain Kaura murmurs softly, earning a squeak and a vigorous head shake from the servant who returns the bow and races off to continue her duties.

As the servant vanishes from sight and the general straightens up he smiles warmly as Aki takes hold of him from behind, his face buried against his foster father's back. Ever since he was little, Akito was never one for directed affection, almost going catatonic whenever anyone hugged him directly, a look of terror in the back of his eyes. Kaura figures it has something to do with the death of his parents but has never had the heart to ask, or even try and break him from it. He simply lets Akito take the comfort he needs and doesn't press for more. 'I must talk to the prince about this however. He came close when they left the forest, but apparently it was off to the side enough not to lock him up'

When at last Akito lets go his father turns around, taking his shoulders in his hands and giving them a nice squeeze before letting them go and motioning them to continue. As the youth falls into step beside the taller male he murmurs, “I don't know what to do about the overreactions though. I mean, it's how I've always been, you know? Even more than the rest of the guys. . .”

The general nods. “I know. It's what made you great at your job actually. But you've been able to control it before. Remember that family with the small child that kept grabbing at Hoko's tail while you were trying to check for raiders out the window?”

Aki nods, he remembers. He also remembers, being terrified each and every time and only being able to stop at the sight of those wide, bright, wondering eyes looking up at him so intently. 'Maybe I had a younger sibling after all. . .It felt a little familiar. . .' Letting out a long hiss of breath he looks down the hall. “So I just need to imagine the man I am to marry as a wide eyed snot nosed little runt. . . .That should do wonders for our budding relationship. . .” The general laughs aloud, quieting quickly as the sound begins echoing through the halls and drawing a few curious eyes. Aki manages a smile smile at his father's mirth but as Kaura pats him on the back, rubbing it gently he hangs his head in utter defeat.

Hiro continued messing with the petals on the ground before heaving another sigh. "Well, I can't stay out here forever. I'm sure at least my father has finished complaining and grumbling." He spoke to himself, sitting up. He shook his head, letting the loose petals fall out his hair. Despite agreeing with himself that it was probably best to go back, he let himself sit with his childish temper tantrum a bit longer. 'He just doesn't understand.' A bird created from his fire flew around him. He watched it pause in front of him after a few moments and twirl before exploding into a pretty light show, that would be even better in the dark. Once he got that out of his system, Hironori stood up and made his way back to where everyone was still congregated.

His footsteps were light and barely noticeable, but he did pause a few paces back when he overheard Akito and the general. 'Now why are they out? Did something happen?' Their voices were unmistakable, so out of curiosity, he paused and listened mainly wondering if everything was okay and making sure his father didn't screw something up. Hiro had caught something about Akito's self control and the kid comment. The prince smiled a bit before moving through to the dining area another way. 'Just finding comfort in family. It makes sense. Hm, I wonder how he could learn better self control. . . "Hopefully treating me like a child has been overlooked completely."

Hironori continued walking. Though now, his hands were behind his back and he hummed softly as he walked towards the two. When he reached where the two were, Hiro merely looked between them and gave a polite smile before going about his way. If he said anything about the two and their discussion, he was sure he'd embarrass Akito more- and it was just rude to eavesdrop. Hiro realized he only was walking back to appease his father before going about the rest of the day. He didn't mind if the general and Akito stayed outside and missed what he had to say.

"Have you finally come to your senses child?" The Emperor raised an eyebrow before finishing up his food. Hiro stayed standing near the door.

"When do I ever?" He retorted before crossing his arms and sighing. "I came back to apologize for my rude behavior. It was very childish of me and I'll try not to do such a thing again." It was obvious that the prince didn't really mean all of what he said, but it was enough to make his father nod in a sort of contentment. "Though, seeing that lunch is over I think I'll be taking my leave."

"Oh, don't go too far just yet. It's after lunch. The general did say he'd be leaving after." The Empress mentioned. Hironori nodded and sat back down, watching as the servants gathered the dishes around them.

A faint itching along the back of his neck makes Akito's head snap up and his eyes lock on an offshoot corridor. The general doesn't sense anything but trusting Aki's instincts he stays still and waits. After a handful of seconds someone starts humming and the boy relaxes. Moments later Hiro appears, looking as innocent as he could be and Aki,knows without a doubt he overhead something. Flaring up he watches the prince pass in an interesting shave of beet and with a faint choking noise follows behind him without a word. The general follows, shaking his head at his shy son but not saying anything least it make his head explode.

'Oh gods, did he hear me say that about treating him like a child. Oh hell, that's just, this is. . .This is the worst day of my life, second only to. . .' He shakes his head to keep the images from rearing their ugly heads and sending him into a catatonic state. He pauses outside the door, letting the prince say his insincere bit before moving to follow after. However at the empress's words Aki's stomach drops and he glances back at his foster father. The man nods and pats his shoulder. 'I'd forgotten that he had to leave at some point, and I still have so much to go over and so many decisions to make. . .Why can't he stay here with me?! It's not fair. The war is over, he should be able to just come and be my father now. . . .'

He knows he's being irrational so he says none of this aloud but as he makes his way into the large room, the servants clearing away lunch with swift efficiency, it is clear from his face that his day's gotten worse since last the prince saw him. Glancing at the emperor the soldier is glad to see he is no longer in a mood and as he takes his seat he offers the prince a strained smile before looking back to his plate, one of the last ones on the table. He quickly takes up his last few bites, his flush far more manageable after the hit about his father leaving, but still vaguely covering his cheeks.

The empress smiles and looks down at the general. “Would you happen to know what colors he likes? I'd rather not interrupt his meal as he seems quite hungry.” This adds to Aki's flush but he ignores it, eating as quickly and neatly as he can. He wants to get over this father leaving as soon as possible.

The captain doesn't point out that she is interrupting his meal too, as that would be rude, but instead sets down his utensils to think. “Well. . . I know his favorite is a shade of dark red. . .But he's also had a thing for white and very dark purple. . .” Akito coughs, causing the two head royals to look at him curiously.

He waves a hand and goes back to eating. 'He is so taking that from that one wedding we crashed and I said the bride's kimono was pretty' He rolls his eyes to himself, finishing a moment later.

The empress returns her attention to the captain as he goes on with a well hidden smile. “Also, I know he likes sakura patterns and the lotus flower, if that's helpful at all.” The empress giggles and claps, turning the poor youth more interesting colors but he does his best to nod in agreement.

He adds on, “I also like big cats and cattails. . .” His voice is low but the sharp eared empress catches it and pats his arm lightly.

“All very lovely things dear. I simply must sit down with you later a-” She lets out a little gasp, her hand going to her stomach. Akito jumps, looking worried, as does the emperor. “Oh, no, it's alright. Just. Little one's got a strong leg.” She smiles, ever the happy mother, and rubs the pronounced bulge in her kimono. Akito's breathing slows back down slightly and his eyes half close as he imagines what it's going to be like to be a big brother. Unfortunately this does not last long as it brings up the memory of what the prince may have overhead and with a light cough he looks at his hands as if they are the most interesting thing in the world.

Stealth vision wasn't needed to see Akito flaring up. Hironori could only assume that no matter how quiet it could be, Akito would hear. That would probably be useful in some instances, but Hiro was sure his skills as a soldier wouldn't be needed. After all, he was getting married into royalty so there wasn't much he needed to do as a soldier anymore. Of course none of that mattered at the moment. When Akito smiled at him, he returned it with a much more relaxed and sympathetic one. 'Just relax. . . You'll be okay. Just questioned a lot.'

"Dark reds are nice. . ." Hiro mused, looking down at the various designs on the table. It's not very noticeable with bowls and plates covering it, but now that everything had been cleaned off it was pretty obvious. The prince sat quietly, tracing one of the designs with his finger and listened to the rest of the conversation. However, he does look up when Akito adds in his own two cents. 'Hm, those are nice ideas. I wonder what my mother is planning for this.' He figured he would simply stay out of the way until the time came to see it all together.

Hearing his mother gasp made him look to her quickly, adding to the worried looks. Hiro inaudibly sighed when his mother claimed she was alright and then looked as his father rested a hand against her back. The two shared a small exchange about maybe it was best for her to go rest now, and the empress shooing his idea claiming she was fine. "You shouldn't be walking so much. You could hurt yourself."

"I'll stop walking when I feel the need to. I'll be fine. I have no desire to lounge about and do nothing. I'll do that when I see fit." Hironori shook his head and smiled. She was a rather lively woman, and he couldn't help but wonder how she'd behave when she was confined to bed rest. Lunch passed and the general finally stood, announcing that it was his time to go. Everyone stood and walked towards the front of the palace. The Empress was the first to say her goodbyes. She waddled her way towards him and hugged him. "It was lovely meeting you. Of course we shall see you for the wedding. You better be here early!" She giggled and then stepped back. Hiro aided her while the Emperor gave a firm handshake to the general.

"A servant is bringing your horse around." He added after his goodbye. Hironori merely smiled and bowed so Akito would have his time to say goodbye. The Emperor and Empress thought the same thing and decided to give the two their space. "Oh, Hironori will help you find a room for you to sleep in." The Emperor called out over his shoulder. Hiro nodded and walked inside, moving down a hall so they wouldn't think he was eavesdropping.
