Aye, indeed.

I'd also suggest adding something in to change it up a bit. I mean, just a plain ol' reboot with a little change is fine and all, but let's add something new into the mix, so it's more interesting? Perhaps a special unobtainium resource that has an energy per unit that's relative to uranium, as uranium is to coal, or perhaps some ancient Forerunner-like race that left all kinds of interesting stuff around. Something to fight over, to want, to collect and to conflict with other people about. Not just to usual, you know?

I agree with this as well. What does everyone think about letting the GM and Co-GM(s) throw in random encounters and anomalies? We'd have to decide whether permission has to exist or if the GM can just go "LOL HAVE FUN WITH THE GENERATION SHIP", but I think it'd help prevent the usual "Cycle of a freeform NRP" (Beginning, expansion, people start dropping out, someone says the word "dead", everyone left leaves).

Well, because this is roleplay and not a game, as so many people say, perhaps the GM/coGM can PM the people that would be most involved, and talk to them about the disaster or somesuch, so that it happens in a very story-line fashion, rather than a more game-breaking fashion that might happen- more like an electrical circuit blowing an entire energy network out, between the solar panels and the batteries, a mere day before a solar eclipse in a colonization game, rather than an Ion Storm in Tiberium Sun right when you started.

Aye. RPs aren't games, they are closer to books and stories. The fun comes from the co-operation and creativity rather than achieving a certain goal. When people run out of ideas, or no-one works with them, that's when they drop out. In a game, you can keep going by yourself, but in an RP you can't - a one-man RP is a story.

I am not so sure having a premade unobtainium/applied phlebotinum is a good idea. While in theory it could help the GM/Co-GMs seed interesting scenarios, people are going to want their own and aren't going to want to be restricted by the premade one.

Well, if it lets me have a good, orky waaaaaagh I don't mind!

Edit: "perhaps some ancient Forerunner-like race that left all kinds of interesting stuff around"

This makes more sense to me than a fuel source. Fuels tend to get superseded and replaced with time, after all. Super advanced tech, if carefully controlled by the GM's, would not be in danger of being pushed to the side by people seeking their own unobtanium fuels.

On the other hand, it would mean there would have to be certain relative tech caps, but again with careful oversight from the GM's its doable."

"What does everyone think about letting the GM and Co-GM(s) throw in random encounters and anomalies?"
Consult with the people they involved first. Nobody knows their own nations better than themselves, something a GM thinks might be a disaster could be almost inconsequential to a nation due to the way their technology works, thus kind of taking the entire point out of having random occurances all together.

I am going to have to, as Key is more interested in making a RP based of the Alpha Centaurii series.

Edit:Something about wanting human ideological conflicts, or something.
