I know it's pretty bad to say this, but I'm doing a fanfiction for NaNo. I mean, it's pretty much its own story, but it just so happens to be set in the Mass Effect Universe. It's sort of a nice combo of Firefly and Transporter - well, somewhat. xD

As for my progress, I'm a couple thousand words behind, but I'll be doing a lot of writing tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get all caught up(maybe even get a little ahead) by tomorrow night. I know by the day after tomorrow, I will have to get to 10k words, but I know I can do it.

If anyone wants to add me as their writing buddy, my pen name is the same as my username on here.

I was GONNA, but I found out that my inspiration and crap is absolutely SHIIIIIIIET when I'm writing on my own. I seriously cannot write without having either a given prompt (For an essay) or the knowledge that I am responding to someone else, or someone else will respond to me.

would you like a prompt?

Sure?
I can't guarantee I'll actually end up writing anything, but sure.

This is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo, and if I continue at the pace I am now (couple thousand words a day) I should be able to finish in time. It's a sword and sorcery novel centered around a revenge plot.

Sci-fi: There is no such thing as aliens -- anymore.

Fantasy: They thought they won, but the journey home was even more dangerous than the war.

Modern: The bank robbery is going exactly according to plan, but all is not what it seems.

idunno. I could try again if you've got a favorite genre. Honestly now -- everybody should be doing this. See how far you can get -- it's farther than you think! And writing that long is really, really good for you.

My original plot idea was a Marine in the NATO-I, I being the Interstellar section- NATO across the stars. In this futuristic AU of sorts, there are three factions: NATO-I, the Renewed Warsaw, and then the Eastern Alliance- China/Japan/Middle-East, versus America & Europe, versus Russia, Ukraine, etc.

And after first being deployed, aliens show up. Who also have different warring factions.

And the plan was it to become this great big clusterfuck of different factions of human and two different alien races, constantly fighting and making new alliances and such. My character being in the middle of it.

But I couldn't even get past the first thousand words.

Sure you can. The first few chapters suck because that's not the part you want to be writing..... so skip 'em, come back later. Just start in on the fun stuff and go from there. Is it going to be publishable, readable, right off the bat -- no. But don't worry about that.

@mdk I've been bouncing around all over my freaking storyline. I wrote the introduction, then I'm... I'm not even sure where in the story I am. I'm writing it scene by scene, plot-bunny by plot-bunny, and maybe at the end of 30 days it'll make something somewhat contiguous. Probably not.

I know that feeling! The first two I 'finished' were just like that. Never could connect the dots, but hey, there's always tomorrow. Just hang in there. Writing a whole hell of a lot of crap is better than writing a little bit of mostly okay stuff. Seriously. Just keep going.

Agreed.

Even though I personally hate the 50 Shades trilogy, I cannot deny that there is a lot of truth to what you say. Even though the 50 Shades series is horrid, that bitch did get rich from it. So, thank you; that makes me feel a whole lot better about doing a fanfiction. xD

Yeah, it's undoubtedly the hardest thing to adjust to!

Here's another Chris Baty quote: β€œRereading parts of your novel while writing is like doubling back at rerunning parts of a marathon midrace.”

The point of NaNo is to get a super rough draft done and out of the way! Save the chopping block for December.

I'm over here, using my opening scene to describe the complications involved in treating a creature you know nothing about with limited supplies, all while the only thing close to a hospital bed you have is a mess hall table.
