Bio

I live somewhere in the wilds of East London with a couple of friends, a pet rat and a collection of RPG books that is slowly consuming our house. I've suggested possibly getting rid of some of them, but it's pretty much got to the point where the books are the only thing keeping the building upright and if I move any of them the whole thing could come crashing down.

In terms of games - well, I'll consider anything, except that. As can probably be gathered from my posts, I find myself generally playing characters that let me bit a little bit light-hearted. I am reasonably certain that I can play serious characters, but I know that getting to post things which makes me chuckle as I write them keeps me far more engaged.

At the moment, I am currently running a game called Interplanetary Space Friends. It's a game about friends, in space, travelling between planets. It is not exactly a very serious game, and while I've scared off some of my players, I have a dedicated handful left who have stuck with the game. These folks are awesome, and if anyone says anything mean about them, I will defend their honour with a strongly worded message.

Sound reasonable?

Yup. But (there's always a but, huh?) you'll end up, through some way or another, working as part of the Quest For Flavour, as that is more-or-less what will be keeping the group together. That and, naturally, the shared love of Henderson's Ribs. So it might be worth thinking about how that'll come about - the backstory is a-okay, it's just something to consider. Somehow, Bunz is a member of the Interplanetary Space Friends, after all.

I shall add Bunz, Diplomat from the Darkest Octocat Timeline to the list of characters on the first OOC post. Throw Bunz (gently) over to the character tab.
It would be somewhere in between. Its common to find their corpses, the shells of their bodies left behind, but to meet a living one is fairly uncommon, but not to the point anyone should be overly excited to meet one. They're more common in some parts of the galaxy than others, particularly they're more commonly found around oceanic planets.

Got it! I'm quietly working on populating this potential party with various peoples, may have to throw in some kind of super-excitable marine biologist.

Time travel accident sounds like fun, what did you have in mind for that? Or should I come up with something?

Come up with something new, or build on something I've said, or field suggestions from the rest of the players, or pick up the nearest book, skip to page one hundred and twenty one and take your inspiration from that.

On the time travel front, it's the Holy Grail of Mad Scientists. Accidents are more common than successes. There are people who claim to be from the future, travelling back to the past with dire warnings about various calamities or simply hoping for a chance to beat up their childhood bully (a nod to @TwelveOf8, and an idea to be thrown into what is tentatively being called The Backstory Arc). There are people claiming to be time-travellers who are in the business of stopping other time-travellers from causing some future calamity in their attempt to stave off another. Accidents arising from time travel involve being sent back to the wrong time, the wrong place, appearing in the wrong body, spontaneous combustion, destroying entire dimensions, summoning weird creatures from outside time and space that call themselves "Paradox" and waking up to find your family tree looks more like an ouroboros than something nice, like a pine or an oak or something. Most Mad Scientists involved in this dangerous field opt to send other people forwards and backwards in time, because even Mad Scientists have some sense of self-preservation and think twice before stepping into a "time machine" made in their basement from parts they'd ordered off SpaceNet.

Even if time travel is successful, few people would believe such a claim. It doesn't help that most who claim to have done so have wild hair, crazy looking eyes, refer to themselves in the third person and generally insist on shouting about the "end of time".
Why do you think Canida is so nice?

I honestly thought it was down to the climate. God knows, when it gets cold here, the last thing on my mind is "causing trouble". As soon as it gets cold, all I want to do is wrap up warm, drink hot drinks and eat cake. In fact, I'll be honest, that's pretty much all I want to do even when it's not that cold.

Is there anything I need to add or change about Bunz's character sheet before adding it to the Characters page?

Afraid so! Don't be afraid though. It's not too scary. Also, apologies if this gets rambling, haven't had enough tea this morning and so my thoughts are everywhere. The two things I'd like to ask are:

1) How common are Octocats? Are they a rare sight in a galaxy full of weird things, or the sort of thing that most folks wouldn't bat an eyelid at seeing? Or somewhere in between? I like to know this sort of thing, so that I'm not accidentally having some NPCs freak out about a character when their expectation was that their species was relatively common.

2) Ofromia! The planet the party is being hosted on is called Ofromia. How did the character end up there? They could be a native (broadly speaking, it's quite multicultural there), a visitor, stranded by the cruel winds of fate, woken up there after a brief spell of cryonic suspension, a time travel accident, there's... there's a lot of options there. If you're wanting to be from Ofromia, I can finish typing up my notes into something a little more readable and send them your way.
Thanks for the prompt reply, @TalijaKey, I appreciate it a lot - especially as there's usually so few other people online when I'm about. Seeing the little notification button spring to life makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I shall keep in mind your preference for water types! I'll be honest, for some reason, I've had an idea for a Togepi stuck in my head all morning. Although Marills are also every kind of adorable. I shall think on it some more, and see whether or not any of the other Trainer players want to weigh in with a "we need an X/Y/Z...".

Hopefully I can negotiate, and secure, a trainer and sort out the being caught thing before everyone meets up for the Second Day. Getting everyone on the same page, time wise, is certainly the most important thing and, if it looks like I'm not going to be able to find a Trainer player to work alongside before that post, it probably goes without saying that I'd be happy jumping in at a slightly later point in order to help keep everyone together.

Anything else you wonder about?

I think I'm good for now, but if anything pops into my poor tea-addled brain, I shall be sure to ask. I will probably post later on today with a slightly more definite "here are the things I'd give my left foot to play, would anyone want one of these?", which'll hopefully be a bit more useful for everyone!

Thanks again!
Hey, I've spent last night and a chunk of this morning reading through the thread, and was wondering if there was space for any more players. I've got a hankering to make a Pokemon Gijinka of some sort of other, and I'm enjoying one of the other games that @Holy Soldier is running, and Pokemon is one of those guilty pleasures I don't really get to indulge in much.

I did have two questions though! Just two! Well, two and a bit.

1) Does the game need more Pokemon? And, if there's anyone going "golly, I wish there was (INSERT POKEMON HERE) for my Trainer to have...", what would that be? While I've got way too many some ideas, I figure it'd be most helpful to see whether my interest aligns with anyone else's.

2) If there is space for more people, when would be best to get involved? I don't need to get started right this instant, and can surely spend any extra time required to find the right moment to hop in carefully crafting my character submission.

If there's no space free, I shall continue to quietly lurk, bide my time and keep reading along with your adventures.
@Hylozoist Well to be fair, In Canida, whats his face would be getting 5 years in jail for instigating a fight. xD.

You guys take chip theft pretty seriously over there!
Bumpity-bump-bump!
Huh, we have a lot of original characters here.

Four of one, four of the other. It's a nice even split!
I'd probably prefer the party or a later rescue mission though to be honest.

That works for me - I'll wait for other folks to get online and weigh in, because there's no doubt some downright amazing idea I hadn't thought of that'll seem blindingly obvious to them. If we do end up going down the party-guest route, I may have to send you a private message or two about stuff. Double-super secret stuff.
Though I guess it was a lot to keep up with to read and all too.

It can be quite intimidating, especially when Real Life is also trying it's hardest to interfere with things.

However, even the grumpiest looking of clouds has a silver lining, there's space for one more - @Fancy Party, you were top of the waiting list, so first dibs goes to you. Bunz is good, we just have to put our heads together on how best to insert an octocat into the crew. My initial thoughts are:

1) Restaurant Patron! There's all sorts of people at the Henderson's Ribs above Nurr-Slugg, it's entirely feasible that Bunz is there. Perhaps Bunz has been separated from their old crew. Perhaps Bunz has been abandoned by their old crew. Perhaps the old crew had an accident and they're, you know, not around anymore.
2) They've Always Been There! It's an option, but my least favourite (like caraway seed cake, seriously, yuck).
3) This Warp Engine Is A Bit Experimental! Sort of like Option 2, but warp engines are notoriously fickle and weird in how they operate. Warp technology sometimes can sometimes cause "anomalies". Bunz could be that anomaly! Be the anomaly you want to see! Or something.
3) Meet At Ofromia! The crew is, I believe, going to head towards the planet of Ofromia to help Zane Heron throw a party. This presents quite a few opportunities to get involved, either as a party-goer, an employee, a random passer-by, a member of the Space Friends who is also trying to help, etc. etc.

It probably goes without saying at this point, but these are just the first set of ideas to pop into my head to get the ball rolling and, Katamari style, pick up other, bigger, better ideas to run with. If none of these appeal, that's fine, we can come up with something else. After I've had another mug of tea.

Edit: That encounter worked out better than I expected it to.

I was re-reading the posts and thinking that, in a weird sort of way, the actions taken actually worked quite well together - a bit of diplomacy-ish, an implied threat, a distraction, a sneak attack.
