So... space pirates?

One side is space pirates, other side the galactic police (most simple way to describe them). Main problem with battles such as this is all participants need to be well versed and in agreement on the setting technology, possible magic system, etc, which is no problem to me cause I love that sort of stuff. I already have a space setting that does explain the need for close corridor space battles unless one side is woefully behind the times where you can destroy them whatever you do.

With faster than light communication you can easily see any long range attack and either move or deflect it. Most long range weapons are also weaker, so even if you do fire a laser that hits someone across the galaxy, they most likely laugh it off unless the laser uses absurd energy. The shields here care mostly about mass than speed, so someone kicking the shield does more damage than a tiny pebble flying at really high speeds into it. Firing large mass at high speeds into shields could be effective for sure, but that would use a ton of energy and could once again be dodged given enough time. The particle weapons, similar to Star Wars blasters, generally pack the best punch at closer ranges before they break apart. The particles, called Elzion, deal more damage than what their mass would suggest, but this is a rare exception.

Redirecting meteors and the like would be effective if they are not intercepted in time, but this is a huge crime, especially if directed at planets and even most bad guys obey these rules are else they are in for some angry ancient race to get off their butts and deliver severe retribution. Or everyone else unleashes their own doomsday weapons on them.
Someone, fast, bring up another topic!

Unusual battle scenarios we can fight in, such as sci-fi starships! Attacking each other at point blank range for reasons!

@ImportantNobody
Did some evil Dr go back in time and rob you of it???

I don't know that reference unless it has to do with mojo jojo.

Maybe I need to try and write more to get out of this.
I feel like I've lost my mojo. I'll try to get better.
Myrda was surprised to see him forming blood onto his palms. She wasn’t sickened by the sight like some people would be, but such an ability was still undeniably within the realm of unsettling, as if there was something inherently unholy or wrong about it. Of course it was clear that this being was of such a nature before displaying this foul talent, given his penchant for wanton murder.

As her blade clashed against his blood she found it stopped. Her eyes narrowed. This fight was growing more troublesome by the second. The muscles in her sword armor bulged and glowed with energy as she forced against him. The man wouldn’t be able to withstand her for very long, but the man didn’t give that clash much time at all before moving onto his next attack, a forceful kick to her stomach that caused it to cave in.

“Gurk!” She grunted, flying backwards into the wall with great force.

“I’ve just about had enough of you,” she snarled, her hair falling disheveled around her face. She would make a move to power walk towards him, this time thrusting forcefully towards his chest. If he grabbed onto her blade then she would yank him forward and try to punch him in the face with her free hand.
Perhaps even a little more story, like halfway between arena and normal roleplays. Characters can chill out with each other between fights (which is definitely something we've discussed on the past but throwing it out there again). Even though the winner IC is the character who actually wins the fight, we could have shout outs to people who play characters really well, have great sportsmanship etc. not using rule of cool to smash opponents, but instead to have clever and interesting fights.
it fuels us, makes us strongaaaah

Funny enough my other joke would be to include memes such as palpatine saying "dew it!" Before every execution of an opponent.

On a serious note for getting newbies, maybe a tournament without very strict rules? We tell them the rules so they know in the future but the battles themselves can be more rule of cool as long as they dont ruin the fun of the competitor.
One way to get more activity...I donno, maybe you non arena folk can challenge us in matches and lose hilariously and epically, thus inspiring more people to join? XD
Wow, ton of posts here now. I'll try to read it all during lunch break. Most be a continuation of the other debate.
As you saw that fucking traitor other arena person @ImportantNobody has a different view than me. I think if we want to discuss things concerning RPers outside this thread we need to just reach out and ask questions, there is no harm in it.

I'm fine with the arguments on both sides. Just putting it into a sub-forum doesn't harm it much at all and neither does leaving it as is. It's definitely unique enough to leave as is but it would be very nice to increase activity for it.

I think the weirder type of arena battles and tournaments could also be more like in casual where it could get more interest for people who might not want to join in the arena, but see an epic combat focused roleplay and join in, realizing they like such battles.
