AW, thank you so much, but need I remind you that most of my opinions expressed so far were based on your own ideas, such as the different house names? I wouldn't give myself all of the credit, here. You're pretty awesome yourself!

Perhaps I should revive Melody Hawkmoon. My Professor Character who taught Artifice Classes at Salem

And as I've thought it over Hanging spells without a dice matrix to cause chaos and laughs would be abused I'd have to say that's out

I too agree that the spell list provided by Wiki an Pottermore seems adequate enough for student levels

...You mean the part where they are trying to keep their existence a secret from the muggles, which were a majority of the world's population?

I think magic would've been more liberal in Hogwarts if they didn't have the rule of 'no magic in the corridors', but there's plenty of spellcasting in the common rooms.

betelgeuse said
And the reason they didn't perform impressive magic all the time, like making objects float indefinitely is because each spell needed concentration. Floating a baseball with Wingardium Leviosa would be the same as holding it with your own arm for hours. For a while it's no problem but after that it becomes exhausting.

EDIT: Also that's not to say wizards and witches couldn't perform crazy feats of magic. Fiendfyre (used in the Horcrux Cave and the Room of Requirement) is more likely than not able to kill its caster. Strong or dark magic is very hard to master.

@IInflex Alot of your complaints would be addressed by reading the books. *chuckles* alot of your questions are answered there too. Also we dont want a bunch of high powered wizards running around with giant fire cones blazeing up the world. thats just all the OP and more suited to a strict fantasy world.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your points. However, not being allowed to use spells around muggles or in the corridors isnt an excuse when they are doing things that jeopardize their life. And btw, running into a pillar in the middle of a transtation and, instead of crashing, disappearing into nothing is a pretty good way to NOT get caught by muggles.

It just seemed to me that they just up and forget some of their most useful spells. For example, Professor Moody can cast a charm that makes people invisible. This is a ridiculously useful spell! Whyyy not use it more? Furthermore, casting this charm on an object can create somewhat of an invisibility cloak? Why not give the main characters a set of these?? There are plenty more spells where I was just wondering why they didnt use them at certain times.

Anyways, Im not saying that theyre bad, just, I think more could have been done with them! Buuut, I think we've all agreed to keep the spells the same, which, as Ive said already, Im fine with. :)

I think we should keep to 4 houses, and therefore four mascots, but I agree that the names can be fixed up a bit.
Keep foxglove, perhaps a herbal theme on the names?
Here's a few
-iris characterizes pure heart; courage; faith; inspiration - Griffyndor?
wisteria indicates steadfastness - Hufflepuff?
Here is the full list: http://www.growingandusingherbs.com/meaning-of-herbs-herbs-and-flowers-have-meaning/

betelgeuse said
I don't think any of the mascots should be dragons or phoenixes while the others are flowers or salamanders, they just don't seem similar.

Griffindor has a Griffon while Hufflepuff has a badger... I was trying to think of some cool animals that people would be excited to have. What did you think of the multi-tailed fox?

Also, keeping four houses is fine with me. I was just spitballing. :P

I kinda like Wisteria,,, maybe because it reminds me of Westeros, lol. Isis could use some work but I like the direction its going in! Keep the ideas coming guys!

betelgeuse said
I don't know if it was mentioned, but I was thinking all the students could be in their seventh/final year, that way they're more skilled. Part of why the series might have seemed less magical could be that they were 11-15 through most of the books and movies and not very good at magic overall.

Serinaty said
@betelgeuse i see what you mean about being in 7th year...but then all the characters would have to know each other already, and you loose something magical about starting an rp fresh. we'd have to establish their relationships that they'd developed over 7 years together. I'd prefer if the main cast as it were start from first year.

I think I'd prefer to leave it up to the player as to what year s/he wants to be in. Would you guys be against this?

(Hogwarts house mascots go: Lion, Serpent, Badger, Eagle)

Magical mascot suggesgions: Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix, Multi-Tailed Fox ;)
American animal mascots: Wolf, Elk/Moose, Bobcat/Mountain Lion, Fox

The only problem with havng every year up for grabs is that it will be very hard to have eleven year olds hang out with seventeen year olds.

I lol'd. I dont know whyyy I had this idea that Griffindor had a griffin. :P

Also, the younger students dont always have to hang out with the older ones. However, they would interact in different places very much like the professors would interact with the students. I think several people want to play more than one character (professors and/or students).

Also, we're forgetting to work on a quite crucial point... THE PLOT, hahaha. What kind of conflict might we want to see?

So almost like slice of life? Id rather there be someeething. Though, I was thinking something like in The Chamber of Secrets where there's some weird/funky stuff going on around the school and we'd somehow get involved in it all.

Funny thing is, I was literally looking at an image of the 4 and literally SAW the lion and STILL thought it was a griffon, hahaha. Im dumb. :P

EDIT: It bothers me how perfect a lion is for the Griffindor house. Like, there arent any other animals that make me think of courage more than a damn lion... Though, a horse does somewhat remind me of chivalry.

Also, kind of going down the same vein of doing a plant theme, we could do an object theme? Like, maybe Griffindors are a sword, hufflepuffs are a shield, ravenclaws are books, and slytherins are... idk... JUST A THOUGHT! :P

I've actually played in an HP rp where it was just simple go to school and intermingle... it got boring very quickly. I like the idea of building a plot. Maybe starting with something simple to begin with and then build from that.

I love the idea of an antagonist.

I guess the question is do we want to start at the beginning of the year? If so then I would suggest a simple plot to begin with, perhaps something questioning happens at the feast where the students get sorted. Something that would raise possible suspicion. Also the idea that the school could be in danger from an outside force is a lot of fun to play with.

I found that if you play to get to one significant plot point and then come up with another to get to it keeps things much more interactive for everybody.

ETA: I love the idea of the mascots being objects. I also like the idea of the mythological creatures being used. I'd also like to come up with a basic map for the school if no one would object?

Also I agree that we should be allowed to choose our own age. Maybe say that they need to be in 4th year or higher to keep it fair?

Muggleborns surviving and learning in an overall Dark Wizarding society. They would have to be taught in 'Mudblood Only' schools and be sneaky if they want to learn more than the very basics.
