OPEN

“Make peace with the currents, for the ships on these seas have no sails, only anchors.”

There is a place between worlds, an undulating, ever-flowing void that holds reality together. It is outside of the boundaries of time and space, and is, to most, unknowable. This is the Other. Within this endless expanse a vessel drifts without direction, a massive time-turner whose middle is flat and stable, and whose outer rings are in a perpetual state of motion. The Ae.Sop, this ship is called, and it has been since the beginning.
It is a home to the Fables, guardians taken from every corner of every universe, from all stretches of time. It is their job to keep the order in reality, as where there is structure there will always be chaos.
This chaos comes into being through Myths. They are monsters bent on unraveling the veil between the Other, and reality. They have been tearing at the seams long before the Ae.Sop began recruiting Fables to combat them, and they seem to have responded to their new enemies with even greater ferocity.
And what becomes of the Fables? The greatest go on to become Legends, heroes of time chosen by the Ae.Sop for their actions. These few are beacons of hope, and while they continue their fight against the Myths, they are also to aid the Fables along their journey.

INTRODUCTIONS AND RULES
Welcome to Ae.Sop! This is a fantasy RP that focuses on intensive character development and high-fantasy combat. Before jumping into the guts of the lore and what not, here are a few basic rules:

-No God-Modding: Pretty basic, don’t control other people’s characters, don’t assume actions by other people’s characters, etc.

-Be Polite: Characters don’t always get along, in fact, conflict breeds great development! Just not in the OOC. If you have a problem with another player, you can either resolve it in PMs, or if needed, PM me and we can solve it in a group chat.

-Characters: All player characters must begin as Fables. Whether they are brand-spanking new or been at it for a little while is up to you, but they must all be somewhat unexperienced at the start.

-Development: Each individual character is on their own journey, and the missions they receive and the way these missions go will change as they do. However, that doesn’t mean they should always go it alone. Some missions will even require the aid of others, and the way a character interacts and works with others is just as important as how they are on their own.

LORE

NOTABLES

While there are an incredible number of Myths logged within the Old Tome, here are a few noteworthy ones that will hold relevance within the RP (this list will be updated along progression):

There are several Legends upon the Ae.Sop, and many others who have been out in various worlds helping keep them together. Here are a few important ones (this list will also be updated as the story progress, as well as with characters who become Legends!):

Man, that is my biggest pet peeve. There were other people interested, and yet the second the thread opens nobody shows up. I hate that so much.

I'm interested, quite so. I'll get a bio done as soon as I'm done with other bios

Before I go about making anything for this RP.

I have to say that this is one of the most interesting ideas I have seen around here for a while, and I deeply hope that either it keeps a small but strong player group, or a long lasting one in the least.

I will edit a CS into this post soon enough.

EDIT:

Name: D'on (Dawn) Fallherten (Fall-heart-in)

Age: 17 Human years

Gender: Has feminine features, though doesn't care what people call him/her by, and can't really be classified strictly as either.

Race: The tolled. A sentient race of statues. Golems in a sense. They were created by a race of often warring creatures, to settle disputes. Long after that race was wiped out, The Tolled continued on, gaining thought, and reclaiming the lands as their own. As nature had taken back it's lush orb, fighting for any place to stay was difficult, yet being made for combat, The Tolled managed.

Personality: D'on is a curious character, she often enjoys taking her time and stopping to inspect things. Being raised in a close community, he is one to make friends easily, almost ignoring rudeness, as it is still alien to him. Speaking in a soft and deep tone, D'on is usually calm, and handles situations with a slanted sense of humor. Laughing alone, they will stroll through problems while doing what they can to better the situation. (I should say that, while this is the image I have in my head, when I write, a character tends to go in somewhat different directions.)

History: D'on was raised in a city of towers, high in the mountains of her planet. The ruins The Tolled had reclaimed there were near a nest of defensive creatures, alike to dragons, though not as large or powerful, they fought for their territory, and it was custom for a young Tolled to aid the defense of their home. Growing and fighting for his place in the world, D'on learned much, and until long, was taking the fight out of the city's reaches, and deep into the spires of land. Fending back larger and more dangerous beasts, D'on aided the growth of their community. Until the day they were needed, they had proven themselves as a promising young defender for The Tolled.

Hatch: Dio-long, a double sided weapon the splits into two shortswords. It is about as long as a grown man's arm when put together, and of course half as much when taken apart. It is sleek and made to travel quickly through air, among other things. A deep brownish red, it is alike to D'on's stone-like plates in looks.

Shift: Able to dash at blinding speeds in a straight line. It can be used in succession up to three times, and then takes a small time to recharge. D'on does not have to move for this to work, but can change positions mid dash. Meaning, she can be standing upright and stiff as a board, then appear with his blade at your throat in a second. If there isn't anything between you that is.

Legendary Shift: An actual warp ability. Able to change which space up to a set distance, the user occupies. Limits can be decided accordingly. (Times usable, time in between warps, actual distance away, etc, etc)

Also, no appearance for the app?

Really, my only pet peeve with the setup is calling the enemies myths instead of, I dunno, Eldritchs or something of the sort, since I can hardly relate myths to antagonists alone.

Hey all, sorry for the absence. I'm very glad to see that there's still interest in this, and once there are some more CS's up, I'll go ahead and finish up/post the introduction!

EDIT:

Also, something that I forgot to put into the OOC post that I'll mention here first is that the RP is definitely planned as a long-running one. It will operate in different "Major Arcs" that will run for a set amount of time (or unless there is a unanimous vote to progress), that will present all characters with opportunities to team up (or go it alone) in events that will effect and shape the main plot of the story. This will occur in addition to any minor/personal arcs you all have in mind, as I'll always be open to discuss ideas!

Also, Pixel, thank you for pointing that out, we do indeed need an Appearance section on the app! Adding that now.

While we're waiting:

Pixel, love the character! Only thing I'd ask you to change would be their Shift. Firstly, I'd like an idea of where/what the Shift-Tattoo is, and secondly to edit the ability itself, as a Fable's Shift is a minor enhancement. For instance, D'on's Shift might make her slightly faster than average, but something like blinking would be more towards Legendary.

Alright, I didn't know exacy how minor the shift would be, but I will change that once im at home. As for appearance stuff I will work on it then as well.

Also, would I be fine to make more characters? Creating them is one of my favorite parts...

Sounds good!

And I'm fine with multiple characters, but I'd like to wait for some others to get character sheets in before that. Not to say don't make them, of course.

So do we only get one minor supernatural ability of any kind to start with along with some manner of weapon? That seems awfully limiting considering that the setup is about "high fantasy combat" and many a character could potentially be a heroic figure in their own right before coming to the Aesop, not to mention fantasy characters don't always rely on weapons anyway. If your answer is "Well characters are supposed to progress so you'll become stronger later on" that's fine and good, don't take this the wrong way, but I'd keep in mind that roleplays rarely last long enough for any kind of significant progress to take place so betting on the long run hardly ever pays off.

I'm still making a bio but I was hoping for something a little more high powered and with more character freedom I guess to start with I guess. The setup seemed amazing for an ascended hero type game, where you get these characters who are already heroic beings in their own right, champions of their own realm, and they get yanked into this strange ship sitting outside the bounds of time and space to fight primordial chaos bent on erasing creation as a whole. And the PCs are, for all intents and purposes, powerful, with a wide variety of skills, abilities and powers at their disposal, but they're still the bottom rung in this strange new setting they've been pulled into.

It's your game and all, I just think this would work better with the setting and let people have more fun with their bios rather than "Pick a tattoo for a minor improvement over an average person and a weapon with no special powers, you will guard spacetime like this". The average 1st level pissant character in an RPG, tabletop or otherwise, has better stuff than this and they have to fight big rats.

I definitely get where you're coming from, and perhaps the starting characters are a bit underwhelming. However, not all Fables were champions and heroes before they were pulled, and while some may be better off simply from the skills of their prior lives, I'm trying to avoid innate advantages. The new Fables are definitely strong, but they don't start out that way, they become powerful over the course of their journey. At the start, there should be a level of fear and uncertainty, especially in regards to their Shifts, as newer Fables won't exactly know what they are or how to use them.

I'm definitely going to keep Hatches as fairly plain, but I suppose a little more leniency on starting Shifts couldn't hurt, so I'll allow that.

For Pixel though, I would still like to tone down the blinking movements, if to a lesser degree.

Well, it's kinda hard to show up when there's no post in the interest check notifying that the OOC is up... I just happened to find this by luck.

eh, never mind, I guess I'm dropping out after all. Wonderful setup, it is, but I just can't get into it when our characters, guardians of creation specifically chosen by a being from beyond time to protect everything that is, was and will be from unknowable horrors, are weaker and more underequipped than a first level RPG character. Party balance is fine, literally only a single ability per character (oh, and a weapon) strikes me as overly limited and boring for the setting.

Do tell me if you change your mind about that stuff, I'll jump right back into a roleplay like this if characters actually start out, well, like actual cosmic tier characters, even if they're comparatively weaker to Legends and Myths. Since I'm at it: hatches being exclusively weapons is weird when there's such a large variety of items that could hold enough significance for a Fable that they become their hatch and the number of potential characters that plain don't want or need a weapon. Shifts being tattoos only is also strange when there's so many different ways for abilities to manifest visually. Basically, I'd remove all that stuff that limits character creation in favor of having a diverse gathering of champions legendary in their own right, brought to battle a new threat the likes of which they have never faced before.
