Hawke veers towards stoicism, but his emotional side can show when he loses friends or feels that he is unable to help. He is slow to trust but once someone has earned his friendship they will find that he is furiously loyal. He is prone to getting some mild blood lust whilst in combat, but not often to the point where he loses control or endangers others. He never backs down from a fight.
Brief Real Life Background:
Hawke worked as a security guard aboard various freighters. He would spend his free time doing one of three things: sleeping, drinking or gaming. His family weren’t a massive part of his life due simply because his job kept him far away from home. Two of his oldest friends, ‘Aang’ and ‘Maric the Red’ joined SAO with him and together than founded the guild known as “The Braziers”.
Game Background:
Very shortly after players were told about the nature of the game, Hawke, like many beta-testers, went off ahead to try an gain an advantage. This wasn’t out of complete selfishness however, and he took his (non-beta) friends with him. The Braziers were one of the first guilds founded on the server and they pledged to do all they could to help clear the game. In the following six-months rumours have started to spread that Hawke is somehow connected to the Nightshades. This rumour has perhaps grown significantly as recently Hawke emerged as the sole-survivor of his guild under unusual circumstances. The death of his guild, regardless of circumstance, is not something he is taking well although he does incredibly well to hide it.

He wasn't much of a gamer, and left his brother to do most of the video game stuff. When SAO came out, he was convinced by his brother to give it a try, and so he pirated the game, and asked his brother to assist him in it. to which Riley obliged. Personality: In real life, Haul was someone who always lived up to the expectations of others, behave like this, eat like such, do like that. His life wasn't his but rather, he always felt like he was just fake. In real life, he was all smiles and a well behaved person, an average human who didn't stand out. He would have never done anything he wanted to do, feel the thrill of something. He liked to watch box and UFC matches, but he never gathered enough courage to be in one, he would have liked to do extreme sports, but he never really did so. He was a gutless coward who merely went with the flow of things.
But in SAO, things changed. He felt like he didn't have to fake anything in that fake world, no, maybe because it was fake was why he felt like he could do whatever he wanted. He let out his real self, and boy, is he rotten. Hazard doesn't care who he has to stomp to do what he wants and also likes playind the role of a villain and would have played it through and through had it been a normal game. In the death game, he is an asshole with a sharp tongue who likes to point out the things that are wrong with others and laughs at their disgrace. He gets on the nerves of people, but nobody can deny that he is really useful. He now tries to do everything he didn't do in real life, live his life to the max and not let anyone get in the way of his fun.
He lives for fun and only for fun. Anything can entertain him, as long as he deems it entertaining. However, what he finds most entertaining are secrets. Of people, of items, of the game itself. He acts as an Information Broker in the game apart from a front line fighter. While he does participate in Boss fights and whatnot, he doesn't seem to want to get out of the game, and the reason as to why he fights against bosses is still unknown.
Brief Real Life Background: In real life, Haul was nothing but a programer with a gaming hobby. He tried SAO on a whim, since he wasn't all that trusty about the Nervegear, but he never could have predicted what was going to happen.
Game Background: Hazard first sunk in despair when he heard the news. Maybe he was in despair or something, but he soon resolved himself. He couldn't just stay there. He would die at that rate. He took up the mantle of an antagonistic character as the form of his bravado, though it soon became part of his personality. He knew that the skill he had selected wasn't really apt for front line fighting so he chose to become an Information Broker, using intimidation and whatnot to get the information necessary for him to be succesful. It has worked quite well since he started too.

Carmilla is one of the last people you would expect in a VRMMO. She isn't particularly interested in video games, especially ones that require a subscription fee and expensive VR machines. Lazy isn't quite the right word to describe her with, more like indifferent or void of optimism. She really doesn't give a damn about much, at least she doesn't act like she does. Even she she speaks, words flow out slowly and seductively like she is putting in minimal effort to talk. Getting on people's nerves' seems to be a specialty of hers, and she has a weird habit of giving people nicknames either to subtly insult them or because she can't be bothered to remember names. Yet at the same time she has a way of attracting people and flirting. She gives off a cool vibe that makes people want to know her.
Brief Real Life Background:
After her parents got divorced Carmilla moved in with her father. But due to his busy work schedule he sent her to a prestigious and uptight boarding school. That's where she met her roommate and best friend Laura. Laura is kind of a nerd, playing video games, watching anime, etc. Carmilla describes her as "adorkable". The two became practically inseparable, except when Laura spends hours playing VRMMO's. In attempt to get Carmilla to play games with her, Laura convinced Carmilla to try out Sword Art Online by using her account.
Game Background:
The first time she entered the game war jarring since she was using Laura's character, Princess Melody. Melody had blond hair with a touch of pink and bright colorful clothes, the complete opposite of Carmilla's black and red wardrobe and dark hair. She didn't understand what the big deal was the first couple times she tried the game, but after some tips and explanations from Laura she started to get the hang of it. But before she knew it the character she borrowed from Laura took on her real appearance and she was locked in the game.

She also has an obsession with anything that is cute and will grab it if she has a chance to, Rei also can be very hardheaded or stubborn and will usually not back down from a fight. When Rei is fighting she is a very fierce combatant in a fight or a duel and if there is a weakness she will try and exploit it and use it to her advantage.

Rei's mother eventually moved on and remarried to high school teacher she eventually gave birth to Rei's half sister named Shino and the two have been inseparable. As Rei got older she started to get more into gaming which she enjoyed a lot when playing with her younger sister. When SAO was first announced Rei quickly got interested in the game, she eventually was invited to the beta test for SAO.

She however didn't have enough money for herself to buy the full game so she pulled some strings with a friend of hers Rei was eventually able to get a pirated version of the game and quickly got into the game itself. When she realized she was not able to log out she got scared, and became very determined to clear the game itself. Naturally brunette with dyed blue hair, Alex stands around five foot, six inches and weighs about 110 lbs. Outside of the game, she was lithe and this actually aided her in-game, allowing her to dodge attacks that would normally kill her.

Personality:
Alex is one of the few people who's personalities in SAO are exactly the same outside the game. Mostly, she's quiet and sticks to herself, taking on the dangerous role of soloing the game and attempting to finish before her party-counterparts can catch up. Just like in the game, she's cold and calculating with little desire to press someone for personal details. Efficiency is what she rates conversations by, and that works for her. It's not that she dislikes talking to others, she does think a certain level of social interaction is necessary to retain sanity, but she just never finds any point in engaging in meaningful conversation with another being.
Within SAO, her cold nature has been weaponised and generally, she's not the type of person you want on your bad-side. Although she's no where near the level of others who would prefer to follow a life of crime in the game, she isn't exactly an angel who you would rush to for aid in a quest or whatnot. For her, the sins she commits are necessary to ensure that people get out of the game. She knows if she ever gets out, she'll be judged by just how harshly she dealt with those who would seek to kill others in the game, but she also knows that her role is a key one. The Grey are efficient but their prison-system doesn't inspire much fear in the criminal underworld. A rogue figure who punishes the guilty, represents fear for those who kill and makes sure that other killers keep living in fear seems to be much more effective.
Some would question how she can kill so easily and the simple answer is that she doesn't feel anything when she kills someone. It can sometimes be terrifying, a very lack of emotions when you should be your most emotional, but she gets through it alright. After a while, killing becomes as natural as riding a bike, only more bloody.
Brief Real Life Background:
Alex's story isn't tragic, nor is it in anyway spellbinding. She was just a girl, with three older brothers, who grew up being the centre of attention but lacking any desire to be anywhere remotely close to that centre. She was shy but not in an awkward way were you can see she wants someone; no, Alex was the curious child who preferred to sit and play in the corner which would preferably be devoid of other people. Her family loved her though, despite her shortcomings and regularly they would spoil her (they were quite rich). Gaming was the life she grew up with because by the very nature of it, it offered somewhere where she didn't have to deal with pesky complex beings. No, all she had to deal with were AI who were predictable, which was precisely what she wanted.
Why she even approached Sword Art Online to be a beta-tester, she still ponders, but once she got into the game and began using Nervegear, everything changed. In SAO, she could be whoever she wanted to be, she could live her life in the real world then log on and lead a completely different life that pitted her against monsters and relied on her ability to succeed. When the game launched, she wasn't quick enough to snatch a copy and by then, she was left desiring for more adventure. The only other option was, of course, to pirate a copy and get into the game.

When it first emerged that they were stuck in the game, she was nearly as distraught as all the other players. The very real possibility of death scared her, even if she was hesitant to admit that. She desired to have a life in the real word, to get a job and make a load of money. She did not intend to die in a game and that was her mentality from the first day. Being a beta-tester, she went on ahead and used her knowledge to get some better gear quickly. Alex knew that it wouldn't be too long until pure panic set in and people began attacking each other. She was right, of course, it was barely even a few days before the killings began and they've never really stopped.
After a few months, she discovered herself to have a bloodlust that demanded to be sated. She wasn't a bad person so she initially felt disgusted even at the thought of permanently ending someone's life. Instead, she turned this new feeling towards the criminal scum of SAO. Her first player-kill was on a guy who hung around the eight level, waiting for weak players with crafting specialisations to wander out into the field before he subsequently murdered them, possibly even making their last few moments a brutal time indeed. The feeling of having someone die by your blade is quite indescribable. First, it was disgust, then it quickly changed to a contempt approval. It was probably there that started the whole mess with The Grey.

Brief Real Life Background: A fairly normal guy. Goes to school, studies, does homework, etc, etc. He graduated high school and got the perfect attendance award, yada yada. Bit of an introvert in real life, but he changes when he plays video games, including even VRMMORPGS. They made him feel... powerful. More in command of life. Naturally, when he heard of Sword Art Online, he was ecstatic, and a bit sad when he didn't get the Beta version, but he quickly got over that.

Character Name: PlazmaStryke ((I have problems using names I shouldn't, or mixing them up, oh well)).
Age: 16.
Gender: Male (He's Not good enough for Female Class after all).
Appearance: He has strawberry blond hair (Almost Ginger), is moderately tall, about 6 foot, has a very lein, thin, and bony build, and you can see most of his bones and muscles. This isn't do to being underfed, he just has the stomach of a bird and eats very, very little. Even less isn't junk food of some sort. He is obviously built for speed and agility in mind, and he generally follows this up with a ton of damage and combos to suit his high agility type stats. He is also practically vampiric by nature, prefering to be up at night like many a teen, sleeping little, and does little in the Sun. Because of this, he is pale, to the point where he generally is like a somehow very tan albino. he also has a lot of freckles, and his body hair is usually of strawberry blond or white color, making it hard to see. Most of his high is determinded by his long legs. He has little in the way of muscle mass however. He always wishes he could have his glasses, as they always made him look better. He has green eyes and wears comforatable clothes while not in his battle armor.
Beta-Tester?: Nope. He's too late or out of the loop to ever be on time for a beta-test.
Personality: Mark has a kinda triple personality or three different main moods. They all link to Mark the exact same, but eaach is very different from each other. His normal one, and the one most himself even to this day is his "Middle" peronsality: The cold, indifferent, I don't care personality that is as Merciful as Nature is. While still being loyal, he shows little care beyond getting the job don, winning, and enjoying himself. His second personality, the one he shows to friends, is his "Highest" personality on his totem pole: It is all about protecting his friends and loved ones, winning (still), enjoying himself, and just already having fun. If you're his friend, the Middle and Highest are usually all he'll ever let you see.
Unfortunately, he has a "red player" type of personality too. It's the "Lowest", and the worst he has in the eyes of society. It is a bloodthirsty, battle-hungry, victory-starved, and somewhat-sadistic type. While even it has limits, that Mark is the one he keeps under lock-and-key, and grants him his personal skill, something only he can really use. It is all about victory to him, but that victory is won by crushing his enemies, making them fear his strength, and doesn't think straight really.
It is a psychotic and insane personality really. Fear him should he show you it, for if he does: Your death is all he has planned for you.
Overall though, Mark has shown to be realitively self-centered, indifferent to everyone and everything basically, cold-hearted, slightly insane normally, weird, nerdy, and even honorable....in his personal honor bound way. He has a code of Honor and Politeness, but they might be slightly off from how the rest of the world and knights see honor, etc. Also, Communism, Pacifism, Terrorists, Idiots, "Dumbfucks", noobs, the Arrogent, the Honorless, and those who look down on Nature generally tend to Piss him off. Be warned.
And the best part is, all of that is hidden behind a normalish nerdy guy who is generally not hard to be friends with or get along with. I personally find it ironic really.
Brief Real Life Background: He's normal. He may, or may not (He personally isn't sure) suffer from a minor case of Neglet based off of his lack of friends early on and his parents being too busy with work. Mark was the guy that was the lonely sore-loser know-it-all and arrogent rich kid all rolled into one. He had only two friends till 6th grade, and because of this led to his change in personality. Now, he has an easily likable personality if you can get him to talk to you, but always seems a bit distant. Nobody knows much more about him beyond his easy personality however. Trust is a commodity he doesn't usually share.

Although not a skill, it is a state of mind that Mark can enter when truely enjoying a battle or kicking plenty of ass that allows him to exponentailly grow for a short period. It seems to have something to do with a State of his mind and his adrenaline that allows for him to generally grow stronger: His agility, speed, Personal Intelligence, Reaction Speed, Instincts, and Battle Prowess. It does however limit his lucidity to the world, making it hard for him to control himself beyond the fight and in seeing anyone that is in his way as anyone but his enemy. He is always found to be exhausted after using it, and is not really something he can just turn on and off like a skill. It is more of a personal Ability.

Mark gained this spear through the killing of a field boss, and got it as the reward for the last hit. It is now his main spear, and is the best weapon he's ever owned. He has had it minorly enhanced.
Current Armour: A normal set of Light Metal Armor that affords him protection while still helping to keep him agile and comfortable, even in battle. His faster, more combo styled combat improves based on the lack of heavy armor getting in his way. It is only slighty enchanced so far, and is only the best he has been able to have forged for him.
Play Style (Optional): For now, he plays with a Lone Wolf style of gameplay. He doesn't like nor resort to partying, nor does he really have anyone to party with. He mainly relies on a combination of high DPS and speed to deal high damage at a quick, consecutive rate while dodging as much return damage as he can.

At first glance, you might think you're standing in front of a bear. Standing at roughly six feet five, Wes is an ox of a guy. Years of construction work and going to the gym on a daily basis have honed his body into the pile of muscle that it is. He really does stand out of place among most Japanese people. Of course, also being bald and having rough sideburns usually are enough to do that in the first place.

Surprisingly, yes. A construction worker can get fairly addicted to a game like this.
**Personality:**
He's an asshole. Always has been, always will be. At least he's a decently nice asshole. He won't just go and steal your lunch money, he'll find someway to mess with you. He's the kind of asshole who's enough of an asshole to infuriate some people, but not enough that you'll actually do anything about it. Of course, that doesn't mean he's just an asshole. Wes is generally a brawling drunk, preferring to stick to taverns and the front line.
Nothing is better than bashing monsters and downing fake booze. Well, at least it tastes generally good. Its the most life you can get out of a video game, so he sticks to it.
**Background:**
Being as it is Japan had been rapidly expanding in recent years, it would have been stupid not to make the move over and immigrate. Construction was being hauled over from America to Japan faster than you can say 'LAY-OFFS' and Wes, being the rather smart guy he is, made the trip. It wasn't too hard to get used to the strange and foreign culture that is Japan.
It really wasn't too different, at least in terms of building homes and what not. The people were relatively nicer, and it was certainly a breath of fresh air compared to America. Of course, getting with the times, a few coworkers decided to hook him up with a set of VR equipment and a copy of the Beta for SOA. Surprisingly, Wes was hooked within his first few hours. He experimented mostly with different characters, different play styles, but none of them were really all too great.
The only one that sparked his interest was being a berserker. Going in guns blazing, wearing little armor and wielding swords, axes, and hammers. Of course, being hooked to the game turned out to be a rather bad thing as soon as he purchased himself a bad copy. It was the cheaper option, and he didn't make much in the first place. It really turned out to be a horrible mistake as he was soon stuck.
**Three Main Skills:**
- Ultra Greatswords - The ability to wield giant ass swords. Pretty much key in his ability to wield the Dragonslayer.
- Light Armor - Pretty much what it says. Wes was never a fan of the heavy armor that most guild leaders wear. It just doesn't fit his style.
- Incredible Endurance - The ability to keep fighting, even after you've taken huge hits.

Wes doesn't have a special skill. Being able to wield his weapon is in itself a special ability.

Of course, that's what the devs want to you think. Wes found the weapon for extremely cheap while browsing the markets. Nobody would buy the weapon since the stat requirements were so damn high for it. It seems a sword taller than yourself might be a bit hard to use. Of course, if you're Wes, no strength requirement is too high. It took a very long time, but finally Wes was able to wield the weapon.
As expected, the weapon is a bit slow. Of course, it easily makes up for this fact by the massive damage it can inflict on an enemy, even without any special enchantments or upgrades. Getting hit by it is like getting hit by a truck. (If you're wondering how it might be used, just search on youtube for Dark Souls 2 Ultra Greatsword Moveset and watch for the second one. )
**Current Armor:**
Pfft. Armor is for- well, armor is kind of useful. Wes doesn't really have much, its more or less a metal chest plate with leather for all of the rest. He's already slowed down enough as it is.
**Guild Status:**
As one might expect of Wes, he doesn't belong to any particular guild. Rather, he extends his services to anyone looking to hire him. Sort of a mercenary, if you will.
**Play Style:**
Pure berserker. Charge in head first, deal with the consequences later. Serves as a bit of tank, as most enemies will be focused on him instead of anyone else.

Isabella is...cold when around people she doesn't know, she doesn't mean to be cold or anything like that, it just out of habit and safety for herself. When in the presence of others she is in particular quiet and keeps to herself unless spoken to, it's just been one of things that she developed from being bullied as a kid. If she happens to smile at you with in a day of meeting you, that means she has taken quite the liking as she doesn't do that quite often, if ever. When around strangers and friends it gets awkward for her, because one moment she is nice and the next she could be quiet and to the point. She is what anime people call a Kuudere, someone who is extremely cold to others until opening up to them.
She has a very very bright side when she talks with Tanner, one that she shows almost little to no one. She almost acts like a little kid when around him, showing her loyalty to the man. To anyone smart, they could see that she has a huge connection with him, one of those kinds that seems like she thinks of him as a brother. She acts extremely protective towards him, of course party because he saved her when she was a kid, but mostly because she has enormous respect for him. She also acts like a mother around him, making sure he has everything and is in top shape. or is on time. it's not that she does it on purpose, but she wants him to succeed. This can apply to friends as well, but she is very untrusting of others.
Brief Real Life Background:
At a young age, Isabella was a troubled kid. She wasn't able to make friends with many for some reason, and this made her an outcast. Not many, even her own brothers and sisters liked to be around her. She found at a young age, that people were cruel, and she struggled with dealing with it. She came from a rich family that gave her everything she wanted, but they weren't able to give her friends. Being both rich and an outcast, she was bullied intensely. It caused a number of mental issues but the biggest one being trust and faith. Around her eighth year of schooling, she almost gave up, girls beat her up, boys spreaded rumors. She almost stopped going to school entirely.
That was until she met a boy, named Tanner Strongsmith. He was a transfer student and was completely new to the place. At this point and time the whole school, including teachers, shunned and outcasted Isabella. On the first day, Tanner witnessed Isabella getting bullied, and pushed around and he fought an entire group of boys. Effectively getting sent to the office on the first day and then shunned as well. It took Isabella a long time to friend him, fearful it was just a trick the others had thrown at her. A twisted one at that, but slowly they became friends. it was solidified after Tanner promised to teach Isabella how to fight. After that nothing could stop the two from haing out every day and night. That was eight years ago, now Isabella has moved in with Tanner in an apartment and they're room mates. Tanner was the first to introduce her to VRMMORPGS and together they played the beta of a game called Sword Art Online. When it was released, they went out and bought the game together, not knowing about the truth of what SAO really was until it was to late.

It increases Aren's speed dramatically and causes a vertical slash attack to the enemy it is used on. It targets only one enemy at a time. It does a substantial amount of damage if it hits.

This is what really caused her to not actively seek out parties or groups without Jaegar asking her to.

Honestly, it is a bold claim he makes, that he can make a friend out of anyone. It is true, Tanner is quick to consider most individuals friends, but this is a error of his judgment. When he meets someone, he quickly learns the greatest portion of who they are. Before introductions have concluded, he can understand a person as if they had been his dearest friend for their whole life. Better still, he becomes as listener, a friend, a helper. This level of intimacy often plays to the advantage, allowing him to discuss with his audience, the intricacies of who they are. The challenge being, who Tanner has had to deal with a majority of the time. Since he became an outcast , there is a gap in how he acts and talks. Unfortunately, he experienced things because of this fact and it skewed how he is towards others. In the complex workings of his mind, he finds that now he is more willing to make friends then before.
He also has a bit of a protector complex, a big fault in him actually. It's led to some pretty bad situations, but that's who he is. He tries his best to help everything and one. He will come to the aid of almost anyone and help them with the situation if it comes to that, a complete opposite of his best friend, and partner stuck in SAO with him. You can truly rely on Tanner to help you with almost anything and rely on him to hold on to his promises.
Brief Real Life Background:
Tanner was a pretty simply boy in his child hood, his father was a well known mixed martial artist from his home town. He was taught at a young age to stick up for people who couldn't do that themselves, and then teach them how to protect themselves in hope that they would no longer need to be protected and become the pretector. He made friends and was your average joe, until his father died and he was forced to move in with his mother. There he came in to contact with a girl that changed his life. Watching her get bullied and pushed around, he fought and protected her, however this marked him for some reason that he was not aware of as an outcast and a trouble maker. He wasn't even able to be friends with the girl who kept pushing him away, or ignoring him. Though slowly a friendship molded and they soon became inseparable.
In high school everyone assumed the two were dating, but in truth they were the best of friends no one could mess with. After teaching Isabella to fight, they soon began stepping up to the bullies in high school and fought together to help out others. Though Isabella only jumped in when Tanner asked, she was a lot less trusting. Scared of getting hurt and only really stuck to keeping Tanners back. After Tanner and Isabella graduated, they moved in together into an apartment and started the next phase of their lives with their arms open. Tanner soon began to find joy in VMMORPGs and slowly got Isabella invested into it. And together they played the beta of a ground breaking game called Sword Art Online. Then when it was released, they bought the game, but they had no idea what they set themselves up for, no one did really.

He actively goes out his way to help others and that was what the guild him and Aren run called, **_ Lilith's Disciples_**, is made for, helping others survive and provide a safe place for them. He is the nicer of the two that run the guild, but Aren will help you convince her.

Personality: Pain is possibly the most cocky person in both the Sword Art Online servers combined. He thinks that he can beat everyone in a fight, and he doesn't say no to a challenge. Pain is consider a pk by most players, because he challenges people to a duel at random places a lot of times, and he doesn't take no as an answer. Pain however hasn't killed anyone yet, though he came close to a kill a few times. Most of the time, he just beats people to the brink of death, and then he carries them back to town to heal them up, or he just protects them, giving them advice on their skills. Pain isn't considered bad or good by any factions, as he doesn't really help in bossing or clearing the floors, but he does train people with his duels. Even the PKers dont kill him, as he is a good target to practice against. So you could consider Pain as a respected player, but he isn't exactly helpfull. Besides being very cocky, Pain is also quite sadistic as you can see in his fights, where he sometimes acts like he will kill his opponents. Pain isn't in any guilds, as there is none that is worthy of him, according to Pain's believings.
