Also note that the overall crime in the United States is a fourth of the overall crime in the United Kingdom. America lets everyone buy any kind of weapon save for automatics or military-grade explosives/weapons, and even those can be purchased illegally, or can be kept if you had it before the light gun control laws came into effect (my grandfather has a fully automatic and legal AR-15, because he had it before they were restricted).

United Kingdom lets NO ONE carry weapons, even officers. They have four times the crime as America.

If you just count the amount of crime, then obviously America will have more. America's a great big landmass the size of Europe, the UK is a tiny little island. But the amount of crime in proportion gives the truth...

Most of the violent crime rates are higher for the US. I would expect the higher number of non-violent crimes is influenced more by the relatively more urban nature of Britain compared to how spread out the US is. That website also points toward the American tendency for police departments to cook the books for political reasons as one of the causes of the skewed ratings. It would be silling to thing their increased fraud rating is due to a lack of gun control though.
