So, uh, hi, I guess! Um, how is the forum set up? Its kinda different than other things I've seen..
Still excited to play, and meet new people, though~! :3

Welcome, Magickat! Nice to meet a fellow Otaku.~

The forum is mostly broken up into sections based on the category of RP you want to participate in. (Like free, casual, advanced, tabletop. Yeah, you get the picture)
-interest checks are were RPs try to gain RPers, sorta getting the word out there about their Ideas. (within their respective categories, of course.)
-the Spam forum is where you gonna make most of your friends, so take a look there!

Yeah, it's as simple as that. If you have any questions try looking through the beginners guide that the Mods supplied for us. (You should've gotten a PM with a link to the guide.)
