you honestly didn't know that?

-_- its basically the idealogy that they items only react when applied with energy so yea they are basically evolution stones but they need a extra kick up the ass to work

I let Sam's Froakie hang onto his head the whole way, because he is a bit clingy towards Sam. I also let Honedge be in his sheath on his back.

Lol I honestly never tried it before today. I was randomly raising an Onix in my goal to beat every pokemon game in order. Then realized his HP sucked in Silver so I tried an evolution and man was I surprised.
