Even in the darkest, dirtiest places on earth you will find that light exists, in faint glimmers of hope, brief camaraderies, and fleeting moments of happiness. Which is a good thing, considering that this is a pretty damn dark place...

Welcome!
To the underbelly of Los Angeles, home to the so-called scum of human society. Here in the dark alleys and shady backstreets you will meet many interesting characters, including, (but not limited to): runaways, drug addicts, black market dealers, prostitutes, local vagabonds, homeless people, gang members, aging transvestites, drunkards, insane hermits, sketchy loan sharks, and couple people who are really down on their luck. Even though they are looked down upon by the rest of the world, these outcasts and misfits exist in small communities of their own and do their best to make due. Beneath the chipping paint, rusting metal, and graffiti covered walls, a few glimmering gems of happiness exist for them.

This is a character-centric roleplay about the life and times of a few peculiar people living in the shady part of modern day Los Angeles. The story will focus on their situations and how they interact with each other during their day to day lives. This is meant to be a mostly lighthearted roleplay, but a bit of drama and tearjerking is always welcome~

-There isn't really a required post size for this roleplay, but a paragraph or two is always nice.
-Don't feel pressured to write lots and lots though! Whatever you're comfortable with is fine.
-No one liners though.
-I'm not sure how the pace will be, but I'd like people post every few days at least.
-Everyone is allowed one character to start.
-Additional characters will be allowed for players who stick around for a little while.
-I think three characters would be the final limit though.
-This roleplay is set in modern day Los Angeles, so no magic or fantasy stuffs here. Sorry.

Personality: always smiling and joking, but very hotheaded, and doesn't talk well, tries his best to be a gentleman and good sportsmen but seems to get carried away
Bio: born to a mobster he was constantly being chased, and finally after they killed all his family exept him and his father, they moved to new york, were his father died of a heart attack 2 years later, sending Guy to fend for himself, and having no real training in any occupation, he became an underground fighter to pay his loans and eventually found himself fighting here.
Other:thought he is perverted, he backs down the moment they say yes. Has a pet rat

Name – Dan D. Nathanson
Age – 14
Occupation – Occupant of Los Angeles Slums
Personality – Dan is quiet and reserved and doesn’t talk a lot. He would rather listen, absorb, and suppress rather than share full thoughts so he doesn’t make anyone mad with his thoughts on whatever was absorbed, good or bad. The usual answer from him in a friendly conversation is “cool,” “okay,” etcetera.
History – Dan actually lives in the slums of Los Angeles with a dad who is trying desperately to get out of it. His dad works almost all hours of the day to make money to try and give his son what he thinks he deserves. The only time Dan ever gets to see his dad is when he comes in to his room to wake him up at midnight to tell him good night and that he loves Dan. Dan equally hates the smelly and shady slums, and wants badly to get the Hell out of there, just like his dad does. But he goes along with his day just fine. He doesn’t really have a choice in the matter, after all.
Dan goes to the local middle school and gets okay grades, namely A’s and B’s. He’s a good student for living in the slums, as at least half of the students don’t care, and neither do some of the teachers. Dan excels particularly in English, where he writes exceptionally well. He keeps multiple notebooks in his binder, where he stores all sorts of short stories that he writes in class. After school, he mulls around the slums, watching people walk by and listening to their conversations, coming up with interesting stories for each individual.

You can use a real photograph or a drawn one, or if you really don't want to use a picture you can just write a brief description of how your character looks.

Name: Dr. Olivia Anya Friz
Age: 29
Height: 5'6
Weight: 140
Occupation: mob doctor runs a free clinic in the "slum"
Personality: Olivia has always come off slightly cold and to the point at first glance. Its easy to blame her profession for this first impression. She has to appear distant if she wants to keep control of a situation. Speaking of control, it is also obvious that Olivia can be a bit of a control freak and is very organized. One of her redeeming quality is her sense of humor, the girl loves to laugh.
Bio: Olivia doesn't remember the moment when she realized what her father did for a living, the hints just seem to pile up until one day the word mobster because a defining trait of her dear dad. Whenever Olivia asked what daddy did as a child, her mother would just smile, pat her on the head and say "he helps people." Once the true surfaced, Olivia found herself unable to ignore the impact her father had on the world. It was daddy that put guns in the hands of so many people, daddy who help rich men get richer, daddy who silenced greedy or scared politicians, and it was daddy to made righteous cops disappear. Make no mistake, Olivia loves her father and her family dearly, but the aftermath of her father's work would make her sick. The sins of her father weighted on Olivia, leaving her desperate to do something good with her life. Rebelling in a mobster family turns out to be very beneficial to society. Instead of getting a tattoo or running away to rebel, Olivia got a medical degree. At first, she felt she had found a way to give back to humanity, but the politics of hospitals felt just as hollow and corrupt. Then Olivia heard the news of an old friend from her dear L.A. Her friend had an accident in the slums, she was hurt but the hospital turned her away and she died alone in the gutters. Fast forward a few months, and Olivia had resigned from her job and moved back to L.A to open a clinic near the worst part of her city. Her father funded the construction and running of the clinic , but this was not entirely free. Olivia had full run of the clinic, but her property, as well as a few other lots she bought, was also used to run some of her father's shady deals. As it stands, Olivia is doing so much good for community, but the guilt of her family and he new involvement still weights on her. But maybe the fact that she saves so many lives will save her soul.

A note about the clinic:
The L.A Hope clinic is run by Olivia and staffed by a few people. She provides free treatment for everyone. medicine is given out under the table, because it is acquired illegal to ensure there is enough. Unfortunately, she still charges for medicine but its vary cheap and she will trade favors from people who cannot pay. These favors can range from helping around the clinic, making a run for Olivia, or sometimes jobs for her family's business. Children and elderly however are given free medicine. The clinic is where her father's employes come when they are injured.
A note about Olivia:
The one thing she cannot stand is junkies. She will never sell her addictive medication to junkies, though she will still treat them.

Appearance:
Name: Quinn "Q" Winslow
Age: 24
Height: 5'9
Weight: 152 pounds
Occupation: Stripper
Personality: Quinn is fairly upbeat for someone who relies on stripping as a job. She generally doesn't take crap from anybody and will protect those that she loves, but it's hard to get on her good side. She always expects people to be worse than they are and it takes a while for anyone to prove themselves to her. Quinn usually doesn't talk to anybody unless it's someone she knows and likes or if someone starts a conversation with her.
Bio: Quinn could have had a good life, but that life would have been hard to find. She hopped between fosters homes at an alarming rate. Foster families found her confusing as they never knew how to please her and get a true smile to grace her lips. What she had wanted most in the world was to be adopted. A good family would have been fine, she wasn't too picky. She just wanted a safe and secure house. It didn't matter what the family was made up of as long as she wasn't in danger from any of them and could go to school and such. But once you get to a certain age, your chances at being adopted drops, and her chances were never very high. Both of her parents had been alcoholics who abused drugs every now and then, and as such she had been removed from their custody at her birth. Once she turned 18 Quinn was kicked out onto the streets to make a living of her own. After countless jobs at McDonald's and even a few waitressing jobs, she found herself unable to hold an apartment or to care for herself. One day she was able to get a career as a stripper, once she walked through the doors of the club, she never walked out.
Other: She swore that she would never waitress or work at a fast food joint ever again. What's a few dances if it pays the rent?

That's a good question Star. Uhm, I was thinking about six characters, not including my own, would be a good minimum to start the IC. Because of the nature of the story, it will be pretty easy to integrate new characters if we get some later on, so if everyone is eager to get going, I think that we could easily start the IC thread with these five characters. If all of the players are ready, that is. ^.^

Ah yay~ Another player! Sure, we already have an established mafia scene, and an underground fighting ring, so gangs are more than welcome!
The only thing I would ask you to keep in mind is the one character to start rule, though you may control as many NPCs as your heart desires!

Name: Vince Rike

Age: 28

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 103.4 lbs

Occupation: Homeless, Robber

Personality: He's a pretty nice guy, but he'll do anything to get a decent meal or shelter if he's desperate enough. He's very analytical and can take things way too seriously, but he'll crack a joke or two if he's in one if his rare good moods. He'll do anything to protect what few friends he has.

Bio: Life was good. Vince had everything he could ask for. A wonderful job, a beautiful wife, and he was expecting a baby boy. But things began to turn for the worse.

Vince was returning home from work when his phone suddenly rang. He answered with a nonchalant, "Hello?"

"Vince? It's your brother, Greg. You need to come to the hospital. Now. Your wife is going into labor!" came the worried voice.

Vince paled and swore under his breath. "Don't worry! I'll be there soon!"

He drove hurriedly to the hospital. When he burst through the doors of the waiting room, he was met with grim faces.

"My wife...is she okay? What about the baby?" he asked nervously.

Greg stood and slowly walked over. "...I'm sorry. The doctors did their best. Something went terribly wrong..."

Vince paled. "Please...don't tell me..."

"I'm sorry, but both of them didn't survive."

Things went completely downhill after that. Vince lost his job and house, Greg and his father had gotten into a car accident and died, and his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Everything fell apart in the following years so quickly.

Vince now roams the city, staying temporarily in whatever shelter he can find and trying desperately to survive.

Name: Joe Vaughan
Age: 38
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 183 lbs.
Occupation: Homeless living on, and for, of odd criminal jobs like trafficking.

Personality: Realist but with a positive outlook normally. Resentful towards varying degrees of crime but very accepting of most every action. He can become rather enraged in the even that others cease to follow basic sets of logic, such as murder without reason or simply actions without reason that incur harm.
Bio: Taking an interest in crime as a young adult, Joe would spend him time trying to get into contact with gangs simply for the association. He tried to pedal drugs and work with gangs, but still tried to maintain a normal life within his ability, walking the line between criminal and law abiding student. His fatal flaw would be that he stove for a criminal life for the attitude, but still wanted to live his life, wanting to commit criminal acts while not living a criminal life. His home would burn and his parents would be separated from him and each other as his two lives mixed, and rival gangs would find him to be fit for death. He would discover that continuing on alone, with no money or home, relatively hard at his young age, but would go on to continue criminal acts based on need rather than acting cool, in an ironic twist of fate.

Name: Usually goes by ‘John’, but also goes by the ‘whatever you want’ policy
Age: 21
Height: 5’8
Weight: 125lbs
Appearance: The really pretty boy shebang. He has what most could say was a face carved by angels, at least, by the slum’s standards. His build is medium-slim-ish, and he looks a little younger than he is…which suits some of his clients just fine. His hair is naturally very red, but he bleaches it blonde often. His eyes are a bright and lively green.
Occupation: Rent-boy, gay-for-pay, porn actor, drug addict, gold digger, thief
Personality: At a glance, or by casual contact, he seems pretty laid back. To his clients, he’s ‘friendly’ enough. In porn, he knows how to mesmerize. To family, he’s…to anybody else wasting his goddamned time, he’s cold. Pay him for some of his time, or you don’t get any of his love.
Under the surface of all this, he is mistrustful of all who he deals with. He’d been used before, and is used to it…but can’t invest his feelings into making actual friends, only partners or just clients.
Bio: At age seven, his firefighter father was killed in a tragic apartment fire, and his mother couldn’t quite cope with this. Quickly thereafter, his mother sought comfort in him, the sort of comfort that his diseased father could no longer provide. Taking this form of confusing abuse from his mother for far too long, he eventually ran away…
There’s a lot of uncomfortable gaps, further situations and escalations that go on from there, selling his body for a place to stay or a bite to eat, doing the whole gay-for-pay business, gold-digging on sugar mommas and sugar daddies alike, getting under and getting out from under the thumb of a greedy pimp, getting into drugs and alcohol, being paid for bondage and similar situations, doing a porno or two once he became legal, being kidnapped once or twice…yet, somehow, he survived to become a shrewd businessman sort of prostitute.
Still, he is ever knee deep in this business, and everything cycles back around eventually. When he is alone, he is often given a chance to ruminate on his self-loathing and poor life style choices. Why didn’t he leave this life style when he got enough money, once or twice? Maybe he deserved this all, maybe his mother saw a reason to punish him that he was too stupid to see…at that point, he’d contact a hustler friend about buying some crack cocaine, and then he’s good for the night.
Other:
-He had a case of Chlamydia and then Syphilis treated a while back, and only got rid of his crabs recently…so he’s good to go.
-He’ll engage with sexual activity with anybody willing to pay, but doesn’t believing in real relationships anymore.
-With the money he makes, he was able to split rent for an apartment with another male prostitute.
-Won't name names, unless you pay the price higher than what he was paid...
-Stray cats happen to like him, and he happens to like stray cats right back.
-He also never did find out what happened to his mother after he left…
-8-inches, skilled in the sack, condoms on.

So, I think we have enough characters to get this show on the road if everyone is ready. ^.^
Sometime tomorrow I think will post my sheet (if anyone is wondering why the heck I haven't posted one already, I prepared a few of different genders and occupations so that I could add to the lacking gender/occupational groups in an attempt to help balance the cast), then I'll post the info page and a starter post in the IC and we can officially start!

This won't be until a little later in the day though, so new players are free to sign up and submit more sheets before we start, and the existing players can do some planning for relationships and courses of action~
