It seems like wherever I go these days, I ended up getting into a line of conversation with someone that sometimes teeters to being close to "off topic". And not even that, it seems like everyone is making these discussion threads these days, so I thought I'd jump onto the train.

This thread is open to anyone and everyone. The topic will forever be changing and it can range from anything that falls within the Guild rules from politics, to music, to anime, to movies and even just regular small-talk. Hell, if you even feel comfortable sharing your problems with strangers and getting advice, then you're more than welcomed to do that as well! Nothing you say or do here will be marked as "off-topic" and you can just relax and chat with your friends.

Just don't break any Guild rules and respect each other. Have fun!

I can't believe finals are almost over. The year went by too quick, I don't have a job yet. If only I could find me one of those swanky union gigs. Then I'd be makin some serious bank.

I graduate next year.

I'm also looking for a job, but I'm looking for volunteer work before anything else. Otherwise, I won't be allowed to graduate. Yay. Anyway, this year flew by like crazy. I still can't believe it's May. And what a wonderful year it has been! I've felt my coming-of-age journey coming on for the past year.

How the past year for you guys?

A lot of music written, a lot of music played. Hopefully I can get some work playing this summer. Anything. Hopefully it pays. In the meantime, I've got four or five charts to work on so they'll be ready come september. Gonna see if I can get a song for all of the University's jazz ensembles.

I do, actually! Here a piece I wrote that we played about a month ago, Melancholy Sunrise.
I'm on solo tenor. I've been really working at getting back into playing. I broke my hand a couple years back and it's just never been the same.

Here's another featuring one of our amazing vocalists. My treatment of the classic Irving Berlin tune, Blue Skies.

I got the idea to write that piece after I heard Brent Spiner, as Data, sing it in the STNG movie Nemesis.

Edit: Does that first video start at the right time? It's supposed to start 18 minutes and 3 seconds in. I can't tell...

Haven't found work yet. Applied at the library for volunteer work. Fingers crossed.

I have previous experience there, so they really shouldn't have a reason to deny me. I hope.

My uncle works as head librarian at University of Iowa. Strangely enough, he's a massive germiphobe.

No, just ironic. All those books, touched by all those hands. Makes me shiver a bit just thinking about it.

And by kids. And kids are nasty. They never wash their hands. I can deal though. I love the library and I've worked there before.

Haven't had a new physical book in ages. But I did just get a new box of reeds. Love that smell.

Not so much books, but I understand. I love holding real, printed scores to music as opposed to reading them through a computer. Something carnal about it.
