The Court of The Red King

A post-apocalyptic science fantasy ripped out of the 70's pulp genre! Orcs with machine guns, Octopus-Men with political sway, and dudes with motorcycles racing dudes with terrorbirds.

Our story takes place on a nameless planet, which is Earth, several million years after a nuclear holocaust killed most life on the planet. The still-irradiated stretches of the globe are known as The Badlands, while the planet's small patch of green is known as Terra. Radiation has turned the inhabitants of The Badlands into grotesque abominations, from the flora and fauna, to the humanoid inhabitants such as the orcs and illithid. In contrast, those mutated by radiation in Terra are less sharply twisted than their cousins in The Badlands, such as elves, halflings, and dwarves. These two lands are each ruled by a leader that encompasses the respective values of their homeland -- The Badlands are ruled by Ziltoid the Omniscient, an Illithid warlord hell-bent on world-domination through the use of his reclaimed supercomputer, whereas Terra is ruled by The Red King, a warrior who rules through strength and wisdom.

Our heroes will be a ragtag group of Terrans selected for unknown reasons by The Red King, the mysterious and illusive leader of The Fair Folk -- The title proper for Terra's denizens. Our characters will come from different backgrounds across Terra, having been selected to destroy the last remaining component of Ziltoid's supercomputer, and be known as "The Court of The Red King". If you couldn't tell already, this won't be the last prog-rock joke or Tolkien nod. The story will hopefully play out to completion, when our characters either destroy the supercomputer or die trying. I'm hoping to have the tone vary from being comical at its lightest to somewhat message-laden and serious at its darkest. Character deaths may happen, as well as NPCs, though many mook deaths aren't as serious as one main character death, and so on.

With that said, there's nothing left to do but lay out a few things, and let you get back to making a character sheet OBVIOUSLY.

Name: Grindhouse

Race: Human

Age: 40

Gender: Male

Appearance: He’s tall and heavy set; pushing seven feet of functional muscle and subcutaneous fat. His whole body is covered in a litany of scar tissue he bears proudly. He wears the easily recognizable vestments of his calling; a stylized hockey mask, leather apron (complete with utility belt of combat and butchering blades) and a massive chainsword. The rest of his clothes are light and practical wear. He keeps his head shaved and only removes his mask private or moments of extreme trust, exposing his massively scarred face and surprisingly soft eyes.

Personality: Despite his trappings Grindhouse is a quiet and thoughtful man who constantly considers the repercussions of his actions. Issues of philosophy and morality are paramount and determining “the right thing to do” motivates his every action. He differentiates himself from others though in the sincere belief that all problems can be solved through the judicious application of ultraviolence.
He is world weary and slow to trust but that which he does he carries a deep and genuine affection for. The weight of his station affects him more so than he would care to admit; Grindhouse drinks heavily and avoids any sort of emotional therapy that might heal him as he ultimately defines himself by how damaged he is.

History: Grindhouse was born with a different name into a poor farming family on the edge of the Badlands. Life was hard and simple but also genuine and punctuated with moments of earnest satisfaction and love. For a young boy in such a time a place, it wasn’t all that bad.
Then the mutants came. It was a large pack, viscous and hungry. They fell on Grindhouse and his family; all of them raped, tortured, and eaten alive in front of each other. Grindhouse watched his parents uselessly struggle against their captors; they were hardy folk but they weren’t fighters. They begged for their lives and of the lives of their children. It didn’t help. But when Grindhouse sunk his thumbs into the eyes of his assailant and his teeth into its neck, when he buried a butcher knife into the genitals of the mutant guarding the door, when he ran into the night never looking back, that helped.
He wandered for days, cut, bruised, and the better part of his face chewed off. He had no direction, no plan, just a animal’s will to live. Eventually the young boy was found by a traveling Gorepriest who, looking at the youth’s ruined face and haunted eyes, knew he had found a new disciple.

Strengths: Proselytizing, melee combat, torture, terrorism, wilderness survival, poetry.

Weaknesses: Grindhouse is a zealot who has fully subscribed to the tenants of his religion. Before anything else he is an acolyte of The Beast That Feeds The Beast and filters the entirety of his life through this violent lens, even if the situation calls for a more nuanced or compromising approach. He is also prone to substance abuse and destructive outbursts followed by wallowing, self deprecation; Grindhouse constantly evaluates himself and always comes up wanting.

Other: Grindhouse is a Gorepriest for The Beast That Feeds The Beast, a religious group that venerates its titular primarch, a hyper masculine, psychotically homicidal masked madman that forced order and reason onto a chaotic world through overwhelming brutality. The Caul is the highest ranking authority within the order and they anoint and educate Gorepriests, providing them with the texts and utilities they need to further subjugate the world at large. The Beast That Feeds The Beast is a violent, cruel, and uncompromising organization hellbent on forcing itself on grotesque landscape in the hopes of making things marginally better.

Name: "Two beam Louis."
Race: Human
Age: 23
Gender: M
Appearance: He has the average height and has an athletic build suited for his acrobatics. He wears a well worn navy blue duster with matching cowboy hat and pants with brown boots. Under the duster he wears an off white shirt and on his neck is a green bandana. He has dark skin which is made darker from the direct rays of the sun in the badlands. His hair is kinda wavy kept mostly under his hat.

Personality: Louis fits the stereotype of your young gunslinger (although in his case it would a swordslinger). He's got that youthful vigor, swagger, a certain stylishness to him, and most importantly that impetuousness. Traits that will either lead him dead or propel him to some renown. He's not a bad person but he he's not shy of being underhanded when it needs to. His hobbies are: Swording, adventuring, getting paid, boozing.

History: Being born on the rim of where Terra and The Badlands resulted in a odd existence. There was always the chance of chaos with the various Badlands threats but paradoxically they were also safe enough due to their proximity to Terra. He was lucky to have a pretty safe upbringing but that siren song of danger and excitement proved too much for Louis. He wanted to see the world beyond his small town and fight off the evil horde and help reclaim the lands. So he did what anyone else would do get some weapons and find someone to teach him fight real well and survive.

He'd gain his skills and experience years later running around as an errant. He was good with his sword but his skill was yet to truly awaken. One a mission to a ruins he'd end up in a fight with a beastman of prodigious strength. The beastman broke his sword leaving him with a jagged stub. Just as he was to make a final desperate rush to shank the beastman a light emanted from his sword which then ended up skewering the beastman before the metal even touched its flesh. Somehow either with the magical juju of the ruins or something activated this ability. Thinking his sword was somehow magical he kept the broken piece around as he practiced with this new ability. Eventually he'd ditch it after learning it wasn't necessary.

Strengths:
-Can't be disarmed conventionally
-Melee fighting
-Acrobatics and general athleticism
-Drinking
-Gambling
-Outdoorsmanship

Weaknesses:
He can be cocky and impetuous which can rub people the wrong way obviously. In combat if he feels that he clearly has the win against inferior opponents he like to get all flashy which presents its own problems.
