Basically if you've seen 6 you are set. The only thing is that in the meanwhile there is a New Republic set up. The Empire is on the low and is now called the First Order and the Rebel Alliance is now called the Resistance and work semi-seperate from the New Republic.

I PREFER Jar jar before Abrams. Jar jar was just filling 3po's role as comic relief :-(

Am I the only one who found Episode 7 to be a huge disappointment after the hype wore off? I mean, it didn't really serve a purpose in the story, unlike the so hated prequels. We didn't really get to know anything about the main character (or the villain), and the idea of Star Wars being Anakin's story was basically scrapped..

Well, we don't know who Rey is, but I think the entire starkiller base was redundant.

And the irony of it all is that the "Starkiller" character (from TFU) isn't even canon.

I think Skywalker was going to be called "Starkiller" but Lucas thought it to be a bad hero name

Personally speaking I didn't mind the movie too much, but I really don't like Rey. Specifically I don't like how the character had zero explanation as to how she got as good as she did. The understanding of how to fix a ship was sort of (and I heavily stress the sort of here) understandable given that she made a living off of salvaging and what not, so it makes sense that she might fiddle around to see what did what in her spare time, but the piloting was brought in out of left field since she not only unfamiliar with the ship she's piloting, but she's messing around with a ship that required two pilots, one of which happened to be one of the best around. Then there's the whole "using force abilities with little effort with no prior knowledge of using the force" thing which really grinds my gears. I'd be fine if the movie gave us at least a single glimpse of her doing something that would at least partially explain her abilities like we did with Luke.

Im a little less concerned about the piloting thing than about the force thing.

I've always wondered when did Luke learned how to use the Millenium Falcon's Turrets. Thos things surely don't look like user-friendly, or mounted into an Speeder.

It's not really important for the VII to be Anakin's history: It's better to tell someone else's history than, for example, resurrecting Vader (that's something I FEARED could happen).

Furthermore: I always thought it is the story of R2-D2. It's the only one who actualy knows pretty much everything! :-D

Anyway, I essentially feel disappointed by the lack of importance of the old Characters, and how they are forced to give in the leading role to Rey "Know-how-to-Jedi-out-of-nowhere" BB-8 "Despair-thoseofyou-who- were-fans-of-R2" and Kylo Ren "The kid" :-( Seems to me as puny, badly constructed characters, not up for the heritage. But not up, in the meaning of... the script not even trying.

The Starkiller Base is also a kiddish attempt to "be bigger" than the Death Star. And absurd too: the two first Deathstars bleed dry the Galactic empire's coffers... but the First order, an essentially much smaller organization has created Something much bigger, able to fire at hyperspace speed. Yes. Of course.

Sorry. This has probably been a rant. :-(

If it is indeed a rant then it's one that's completely justified, imo. The real issue was that during the movie's initial release criticisms were typically hand waved away with that whole "you don't like a female lead in your nerd movies!" thing. That may have been true for, like, five percent of the group of critics, but that still leaves ninety five percent who were a mix of people that were displeased because they felt that the movie was a ham fisted attempt to rake in money from nostalgics, people who felt that they threw away well established and, frankly, more well rounded and likable characters for the shiny new kids, and people that were simply really, really pissed about Han.

I'm truly worried that they might get into the habit of crying wolf while they decide to pump out a bunch of cash grabs by introducing new characters to make later origin movies for rather than expanding on pre-established characters, and that the series will suffer for it. I want my Han and Chewy movie damn it! Hell, i'd be absolutely over the moon if they did anything Grievous related that didn't butcher him to hell and back like last time.

About Kylo.. And I might have said this before, but why on Earth didn't Ani's force ghost pop by and tell him to chill out? Surely the guy would've listened to his greatest idol.. Right?
