You are a rift-runner @6slyboy6 unless you don't want to be. I had to call our gaming group something, and figured I would kind of keep the feel something imaginative and fun.

<Snipped quote>
Those questions, I believe, are for you to decide for yourself.

Right now just build a general frame of a character concept you wouldn't mind playing for an adventure or two. We are going to plug it into the real world just because the real world is something I hope we can all relate to.

My understanding was that we were 'rift runners' for the sake of having an overall story arc and the same character archetype (if we want to) in various settings that range all over the place from fantasy to scifi to modern. It's more a loose framework than a coherent storyline.

Basically you... physical, real world you, sitting on the other side of that screen, YOU. Are a Rift Runner in that you play characters in roleplaying games (or as I call them in this thread... "other dimensions") and you are part of this gaming group. Our gaming group, at least with what I dubbed it since I had to name the thread something, is called the Rift Runners Gaming Group.

Since we don't really want to say "Hi, I'm so and so, I live here, and this is my deepest darkest secret." We are creating real-world analogues for us to play. If you want to make this analog to actually be YOU, that is up to you. In a face to face game I would simply have you guys play yourselves, but I think we should hold a level of ambiguity since it is the internet and some of you might be minors or might not be comfortable sharing things about yourselves with someone you can't even put a face to.

@Clanty Oops, sorry, things kind of took a tangent there.

@Deserted So if I wanted to be a mechanical engineer who was also a mechanic I'd be a support wizard right? Sorry for all the questions, I just kind of have a feel for how I want her in my head and am trying to get it right.

So, here is an answer to your question.
That DOES sound like a Wizard/Support to me. That is pretty much the straight up, vanilla, expert through and through. However, if you are looking for some added flavor, you can always tweak the special effects or just treat the wizard to reserve your spot as a mechanic thing and fiddle around with other roles to see if that is more to your liking.

For example, someone might choose Wizard/Outdoorsman... you could define this as your classic D&D Druid by having magical control over nature. However, you could make the wizard technological and the outdoorsman survival. Suddenly we have a Doomsday Preper.

Okay, @6slyboy6, your character looks fine for the most part. You do have a few things that really should be changed for him to fit into the established guidelines.
1) Please do a little proofreading (you can always edit.) While I'm not a grammar policeman, some of the stuff is slow to read because of typos. (are you using your phone to post?) I get what you are saying, but for quick reference we need it typo free and clarified. I think on important posts and character sheets this would be a really good idea.

2) Your profession doesn't match the descriptions we were going for. This is to communicate to the party what sort of stereotypes you are going to use so that nobody is stepping on the toes of anybody else and so that a GM can plan an adventure that is centered around the characters we like. Right now "that guy" and "sorcerer" are not on the list. However, I think you are meaning leader (in the form of connections or influencing people) and nuker (who uses magic to trounce his foes) Is this correct?

3) The character sacrilege troubles me. Are you meaning that you are going to freak out if your character gets killed or injured? That is the vibe that I get with your listed articles. Considering that we might bust out a game with random rolling, this takes away the standard character invulnerability that free-form normally provides. I don't want to say that you mean you are going to be pissed if your character gets hurt, but I'm not going to assume anything.

@Deserted I just finished up my character. It's midnight and I still have an RP post to write.

Not much, I get to go camping starting tomorrow so I'll be out of phone/internet range for the weekend which I'm SUPER stoked about. Nothing recharges me like being in the middle of the woods and out of communication for a while :D

Question: When are we planning on starting the RP portion of this bad boy? Also, what kind of setting is our first game going to be set in?

@ClantyWe are starting when everybody is settled in and ready to get a game going. I assume it is once everyone has a character up and vacations out of the way.

The setting will be here and now, real world. I'm thinking small to medium sized town America (since I have no clue about the rest of the world because I am desperately deprived of this stuff called "travel") but that is going to change pretty quickly. We are normal people in a normal world who all have just recently been offered a new job that is rather out of the ordinary but pays pretty good and comes with decent health insurance plan. Not to mention no experience required, what's up with that?

Character posted, let me know if edits are needed!

Also, as a Canadian, I'll ask you to have some patience with me if I'm unfamiliar with some details about living in America ;P

Camping huh? Funny thing, living in Colorado, you can go into the wilderness and get away from "it all" and still have cell coverage.

Yeah, generally speaking it's pretty easy here in Northern CA to get out of cell range. Where I am you just drive up into the mountains and boom, relative solitude.

Well, I'll explain the differences between Canada and America, @Primal Conundrum. We build our igloos out of wood here... LOL! Just kidding in case you can't tell.

Your character is right on the money.

@DJAtomika Tank looks pretty good. I do have a question about his Character Sacrilege. This "discovery of his friends don't appreciate him as much as he thinks they do" if it happens, does it cause character exit or make you not want to play him any more? Just trying to make sure.

Thought up a character sacrilege, so I've added that now! Are we missing characters from anyone? I know we're still waiting on some edits.

@Darcs is a no show thus far. @6slyboy6 still needs to do some edits. I think that there are a couple of clarifications left with a couple of other players, but those shouldn't get in the way of us starting or even playing. We should be able to begin once those I have mentioned do their thing.

Good job on the character sacrilege @Primal Conundrum we must be on the same wavelength.

I'm still a little confused about the 'character sacrilege' part. What exactly does that mean?
