I didn't know that, that's super weird. Hollywood's whole flirtatious relationship with Chinese audiences is super weird. Oh well, at least China likes Matt Damon.

I think what Chinese studios want is to be more accessible to western and American audiences. Casting Matt Damon (and I think a few others to stand alongside the big Chinese names) is what they're leaning on to make their films more global than they are.

I don't mind really, I've watched a few Chinese movie and they ain't bad. Red Cliffs was fun (even the clearly CG fire effects were fun in a silly way and the whole final battle thing). This will always be a fun scene to watch:
