Welcome to Hailstone, Indiana. The year is 2047 with increasing urbanization with more people moving from the country to the great cities small towns like Hailstone across the country have been increasingly marginalized, dismissed as "Homophobic Racist Bible-Thumping Hellholes" the economy no longer supports the industries that once fed these small towns and they have become increasingly isolated from society as the Urban Majority focuses on city people problems. Hailstone has faired better than most of these towns partially due to the operations of a nearby Agricultural operation by "Prosperity" a major midwest agricultural corporation. while relatively poor, the people of Hailstone can often make a meager living.
While some of the less tolerant city folk might dismiss Hailstone as being full of backward hicks, Technological advancement still finds its way into many homes, Online education is becoming increasingly common, everyone has tablet computers which can outmatch the computers of 2016, some of the more afluent people (still lower class) can afford robotic helpers. That said, some of the stereotypes have some basis in reality (of course, heavily exagerated) Feelings of marginalization aren't fun for anyone and many people distrust "city folk" some people believing that they are "Morally Bankrupt elitist bisexual cyborgs who have massive cybernetic orgies while plotting the downfall of the poor while snorting LSD and cocaine in fursuits" So there is an "Us vs Them" attitude, the kind you see often throughout human history.
In the era of ubiquitous computing, no society is truly isolated, with internet access many teens and young adults are drawn to the lifestyle of the cities, away from the "oppressive" traditions of home, for better or worse. Some people are more in your face about it than others but you see plenty of kids dying hair and getting bioluminescent tattoos and minor body modification (most of them arent rich enough to afford the cybernetics favored in the cities).
Recently the incentive of tax breaks has drawn more businesses to open factories and stores in Hailstone, some welcome them, bringing new jobs and money into the town, some aren't so happy about "The Big Guy" coming into the small town.
Now as for the world Outside the town, The world is pretty much cyberpunk, "Non-Human" rights is a big question on many people's minds, A budding mars colony exists, Cybernetic augmentation is becoming increasingly mainstream and the climate is steadily falling apart. While Megacorps exist they arent as powerful as they tend to be in cyberpunk media, they can't "get away with everything" if a corp acts up, people will know about it one way or another which can lead to serious trouble, which isn't good for profits. Also the CEOs arent all mustache twirling megalomaniacs, they are people (err...some of them at least, some Corporations are actually AI masquerading as a human company so they can "own themselves" as corporate property, even though no humans actually work for the corporation)
Now For the plot I am thinking either
A. Cops try to combat a Meth epidemic
B. Robot immigrants are making some of the townsfolk uncomfortable.
C. One of the AI ran corporations is moving into town, causing trouble
D. Purely slice of life, except...cyberpunk
E. All of the above.
