I like the idea. It -- hypothetically at least -- allows people to not squat on certain characters and keep them inactive.

I'm still interested, I'm just looking for someone who might be interested in collabing with either character I have in mind.

How attached is everyone to the character rotation idea? I'm having second thoughts about it and might restructure the RP to a more traditional apply for the character you want.

I like the idea that characters can't squat, and that a canon is established in the IC, so if a character changes hands people who read from the start of the IC don't need to ignore certain posts. Perhaps both? Someone can apply to hold onto a character or just put in to run one story (Different people have different time restraints). Then if someone drops or becomes inactive someone else can pick the character up.

Could be other ways to ensure people don't squat on characters such as limiting how many characters one can have and putting rules on supporting cast lists. Some of the sheets in previous games have laid claim to so many characters it's gotten ridiculous.

The other thing we can do is apply a rule about posting frequency and if a player hasn't posted in a certain amount of time then their character goes up for auction.

@Lord Wraith I think that posts should remain camon though, as retconning all the time makes a mess. Maybe also a mandatory arc completion before collaboration?

On another site I was involved in, we gave people two weeks to post before they got it taken from them.

I think this would be a perfectly acceptable rule.

Hmm could be an idea although I'm not sure I like locking someone out of collaborating.

@Lord Wraith That idea is based on people applying for a character to hold onto forever and ever. So that they show they can handle it by being able to support themselves

Because we (the superhero sandbox community) have such a great track record with posting that often, lol. Anyway, I'll give whatever Wraith does a shot.

As I said in our other discussion I would think that one per post every fourteen days is a reasonable requirement. I would extend that one step further as one post per character every fourteen days so as to discourage players from over burdening themselves with more characters than they can post with.

@Lord Wraith that sounds acceptable to me. Also the idea of keeping supporting cast to actual close legacies rather than far off distant ones? As you said it got kinda silly.

I have this idea of allowing stories happening in the past, present and future meaning that you can have your solo Batman but also have stories with Nightwing or Robin without messing up the Batman player's plans. If that player wants they could guest write any needed interaction with Batman or simply allow the other player to do so themselves so long as that player doesn't go overboard (ie including Batman in every post).

My other thing is, there won't be supporting casts on the proposal but I'd be okay with people laying claim to characters they need for their current arc. So if you're doing Flash versus Captain Cold as your first arc, I'd be okay with denying a Captain Cold app but only so long as that arc is running. When your arc has concluded, I'd expect the character to be free for a player to apply for.

Me being me, could I theoretically do a story set in Gotham before Batman? As long as I don't play with the timeframe and say it's someone who shouldn't have existed before Batman came around.

I don't see why not. These kind of stories are why I want to allow multiple time frames.

Using everything discussed here I'm going to be building an OOC over the next couple days. Looking forward to seeing what everyone is cooking up!

I might not even opt for a superhero right out of the gate (at least not a contestable one). I feel like I'm going to try something like Byrd and do a detective story or something a bit more esoteric and more interesting for me. After 3-4 years of doing big heroes I might want to give something else a go.
