A gust of wind filled the room as suddenly in front of the sad man was a half man half engine hero in the making. He sat down, plopping a chili dog and a some fries next to them. The boy held a confident smirk as he sat down adjacent to him.
"Whoa what's eating you inside out big guy? Tell me all about it"

Haley had started to walk over to Lucas when she saw the engine kid dash over and sit next to him. She then sat down next to Lucas and gave the engine kid a brief wave. She had heard the other kid ask a question so she waited for Lucas to say/do something before saying anything herself.

"Hey man, we're all buddies here! Spill it out, I won't tell a soul, I'm just trying to help my fellow hero-in-the-making. I'm starting to think that's what Xavier believes makes a hero so I suppose that's what I'll try" He responded, scooting over to allow Haley, knowing she was a far better friend to him than him. He hadn't made any buddies yet, but he'd be happy to try, and now he'd get practically the only girl as a friend too. It was a strategic two for one deal.

Meruem Kiryu


Meruem rested his head against the hard material of U.A. High's roof. It was typical, almost habitually so, for him to go skyward for him to think. The ability to contemplate his connection with his Quirk was easier when staring at the sky. Laid back with his leg folded over the other, he watched the clouds drift without a solid thought occupying his mind. Mostly, he wondered what Mr. Walker thought of him. Did he have what it took to be The Symbol of Peace? disregarding the fact that it was the first day of school. Surely first impressions were all a Pro like Mr. Walker needed.

He sat up. "Maybe I need to do more." His lips puffed out to the left. "Or... maybe I've done enough. There's a such thing as overdoing it too. I don't think I'll apologize after all. What I did was in the hopes that my chances of becoming the Symbol of Peace would be realized. I can't rightfully say sorry for that. I won't."

He sighed loudly, knowing that the outcome of his decision could be wrong.

Haley smiled weakly as Lucas glanced at her. She knew this wasn't going to be an easy fix, even less so because there was another kid there which really limited what Haley would be willing to say. "Yeah you can tell us. We are all friends. Please tell me what is wrong..." Haley knows what's wrong but she doesn't want to be the on to bring it up in front of the other kid, she wanted Lucas to so she could see if he was comfortable with talking about it or not.

"You know very well what's wrong." he said. "You strung me along, making me think you were going to have lunch with me instead of that guy, getting my hopes up, only to immediately dash them by telling me you were still having lunch with him. I mean, who asks someone if they have plans if they had no intention of doing anything with them!?" As he said this, his voice started getting louder, tears forming in his eyes, practically shouting at the end.

Haley recoiled slightly as Lucas started shouting. She had know he was hurt but not this bad. Her face went a little pink as Lucas' shouting no doubt brought some attention to their location. "Look I came to say I'm sorry! I left Meruem to come and apologise... I just used the wrong words... That's all... I hadn't meant to trick you..." Haley honestly didn't think this was how the first day of school would go, drama on the first day... I guess that's what happens when you talk to boys Haley...

Haley shook her head. "Of course I wasn't! Doing something like that would be cruel!" Her face was still slightly red but now it was more out of anger because Lucas thought she would do something like that. She then sighed "Look, lets just forget all this happened. It was just a giant misunderstanding." Haley then briefly looked over her shoulder to see if anyone was looking at them. She had also almost forgotten about the engine kid.

"Man, it was just lunch" The other boy muttered under his breath, the entirety of his meal already gone. It was like watching a soap opera to him. He laughed at bit at the whole predicament.
"Man, you two are gonna get lots of attention as heroes, all this drama's gonna get everyone turning heads" He giggled happily, joking at their predicament. Standing up, he walked away. "Anyway, class is getting started soon"

Haley looks over at the boy and the redness on her cheeks went back to being embarrassment. "Heh, y-yeah. I'd be hoping this is a one time thing!" she exclaimed nervously rubbing her shoulder. She then turned Lucas "Right Lucas?" She said in a half demanding half hopeful tone. She had already finished her lunch and started to stand up, she clenched her fists and tried to not think about attracting attention. "C-come on Lucas. Lets get back to class..." She said as she waved to the engine boy. You're here to be a hero Haley. Focus on that...

Meruem waited at his desk in the classroom, his elbow propped up so that it could hold his cheek. It had been him and a few others that had returned to class first. The moment he saw Haley walk in, with Lucas in tow, he figured he was the friend she had upset. He smiled at her and gave a wave. His smile was quaint, yet sly with his hope for her endeavor.

When did those two get so close?

Haley got her things together and headed back to the classroom with Lucas. She couldn't shake the feeling of annoyance she had with Lucas at the moment. But she sure hid it well, she saw Meruem wave to her and she politely waved back before taking her seat and spreading out her things. She looked up at the classroom door before remembering that their teacher probably wouldn't use it, she then looked at the podium at the front of the class and waited for the teacher to show up. She was actually so ready for the first day of school to end.
