Galen, seeing that the less grotesque of his group had the situation well in hand, Galen began making his way to the cart, which he had just noticed. Not even noticing the new bag at his temporary companion's hip, he asked, "Be that all are things, in there?"

Without actually waiting for an answer, however, he began searching for his own belongings among the items inside.

"Oye, what'cha think yer doin' scrounging around other people's things?" One of the guards demands of Galen, trying to seem menacing while resting a hand firmly upon the hilt of his sword. The same guard, incidentally, who had just given Marcon basically no trouble whatsoever for doing functionally doing the exact same thing. Sometimes it pays to be the one who isn't half drow. "How bout you just fuck off and ask really nicely if you wanna get summat from my wagon, okay?"

Almost as soon as the pumpkin came off of Blik's head, she launched into a wild stream of mostly useless gibberish, letting loose a wild stream of consciousness in an attempt to stave off the inevitable butchery that the cruel big folk constantly dispensed against her kind. "Okay! Okay! Blik tell you things. Blik tell you everything. Blik so helpful, you should want to hire Blik as good heplpful goblin help. That how good Blik is at telling story. But not story story. Truth story. Story that happen. Everything you want know, Blik knows and Blik tells so please don't kill Blik!"

Sighing, Marcon continues to watch the interrogation. While optimism is the key to any successful endeavor, he cannot help but recall a passage from Jannicot's "The Folly of Mercy".

What knowledge can be gained from the fearful? Look in their eyes, young prince, and see how small their world has become, them and the threat circling like marbles in a basin. The room for wisdom is used up by terror; the tongue is leadened by dread.

Distracted by the sudden ear-grating sound of the manic goblin, Anchor does not yet notice the possible confrontation started by the approaching guards.

"Alright now, Blik, alright. Let's start with with what happened to everyone who lived here? Were they still around before your lot got here?"

As a show of friendship, Anchor begins brushing any pumpkin guts off of Blik's head.

"Ye say somethin', ye yella-bellied 'ore's brat? Well, ye can calm yerself, I'm only lookin' for me own pack," Galen snarled at the man, through his disheveled face, taking absolutely no heed that the man might draw a sword on him. He didn't think the man could break his stone-like skin with it, if he even dared try, and countinued looking for his stuff.

Tortetart sits next to Marcon hoping to catch a short break before the inevitable storming of the keep.

Tortetarte yells, "Ask it about the keep", while pointing at the keep.
Tortetarte also turns to Marcon and asks 'Should we go looking for the beast that ran off?'

"The dog, Master Torletart?"

Marcon considers the question for a few moments before shaking his head.

"I see no honor in chasing down and butchering a wounded animal. With respect to Gurinder Seven-Knives, I am no carver of meat."

The young warrior looks slightly wistful, imagining the recipes in the dog-eared copy of "Beasts Hunted and Eaten" he found in a university's scullery.

Unfortunately, try as he might, Galen didn't seem to be having much success at intimidating the remaining caravan guards. "How cute, the little elven princess wants to act tough." Swaggering over to stand within a foot or two of the half-drow, he reached to clamp a hand down on his shoulder. "I said to fuck off." By now, the second guard had also taking an interest in the confrontation between his companion and Galen. As his partner and Galen argued, he casually sauntered over to stand opposite of his partner on the other side of Galen, one hand straying to the cudgel he kept at his hip.

"Keep? What keep? Blik never been to no keep." The goblin stammered out, clearly uncomfortable with being interrogated by three people at once, even if only one of them was really leading with the questioning. As she spoke, her gaze wandered over to the big keep on the southern end of the town. "Oh. THAT keep. Uhhhhh, Blik don't know nothing about THAT keep. Bridge got broked. Never been there. Not once. Nope." After a few seconds of contemplating, the goblin's eyes went wide and she started talking at an even more rapid pace, if such a thing were still possible. "I know what you thinking. We not steal big city! Big city empty we take it cuz empty. Please no cutting off Blik hands. Not steal. Never steal. Stop attacking innocent peaceful goblin town. Please let Blik go. Blik never steal city from humans. Humans left city. We did nothing to make them go. Please don't murder Blik!"

The long silence is broken by a snort from the idle Tumari.

"Release the poor thing. If anything, she knows less than we do. The answers we need will be in the keep."

Standing, Marcon shoulders his rucksack and calls over his shoulder.

"Master Wormwood! We make for the keep!"

Tortetarte is unsure of that decision.
Must we search the Keep at this point? I'm only asking because of the whole giant hole in the bridge.

Tortetarte stands up, and brushes himself off. Glancing at 'Master'Wormwood, unsure of why he is being flanked by the guards.

"Fine. Have it your way, ye bilge rat. A good fighter knows when ta back down."

Galen turned and walked away from the men by the cart, before adding in, much louder, "But if ya don't give me me pack, I'll rip yer guts out!"

The half drow decided they probably were going to attack him no matter what, so best try not to get hit. (A dodge action.)

After dispatching other goblin, Theren decides to simply observe the various interactions. It was obvious everyone needed a moment to catch their breath and the others appeared to have the interrogation of the remaining goblin under control. Or at least as under control as any interaction with a terrified goblin could be.

Unfortunately, it quickly becomes obvious that there won't be any clear answers from the goblin, meaning that the only option left is to find some way into the keep. And this time, Theren needs to remember to let the sturdier warriors go first.

While trying to keep track of what the Goblin was telling him, Anchor began to notice the trouble brewing between the Drowning and the two guards. Not liking their tone, he realized it would be best to end this interrogation now.

"I think you're right, Marcon, we've learned all we need from this one."

Anchor began untying the rope around the goblin, telling it, "This town has been reclaimed. Leave here with your life, and don't try to return!."

Finishing untying the rope, Anchor pushed Blik in the direction of the main gate of town. A path which would also hopefully pass the two guards.

"Oh, uhh, okay." Blik said, seeming very clearly confused and more than a little surprised by the whole 'not getting cut up and murdered dead' turn of events. "Okay boss I be going now. Uhhh, going home. Going. Now. Okay bye!". She took a tentative step sway from the group of violent big folk, then another, then spun around and took off at a sprint. As she skidded past the guards and their cart at the town square and careened off towards the gate, the man accosting Galen let out a startled cry- having been too focused on harassing the half-drow to pay attention to his surroundings.

"Oye! Tha fuck is this about! You missed one!" The guard said, releasing his hold on Galen while brandishing his sword wildly in the direction the goblin had headed. After a few moments of embarrassed silence, he looked to his partner, who was currently smirking at the wild display. With a grunt, he forcefully sheathed his sword and rounded on Galen once again. "Hmph. Get yer damn pack and fuck off then. I'm still watchin' you, so don't you get any fancy notions into your head or your pretty face will be the least of your problems."

The burdens of command may sting
But more than crown must make a king.
- Geres Graythrone, Rule and Ruin

Marcon smiles at the turtle-man's reticence.

"Master Torletarte, the keep's occupants may be our only hope to learn what happened here. My business here must be completed, either in success or impossibility, and those folk will point me in the right direction."

Giving into the inevitable, Tortetarte walks to his donkey, removes the 50ft of rope from his pack, and heads to the edge of the bridge.

Peering off the edge of the shattered Bridge, Tortetarte looks for a few key spots. A place to tie rope to on his side of the bridge, a place to safely enter the water, and a place to tie rope to the far side.

Edit: and I guess a place to get out of the water would be nice)

Tortetarte Ties one end of the rope to the bridge. He then lets out the rope as he returns to his companions.

"So, here's the problem. I'm pretty sure I could easily get in the water and make it to the other side. But, I don't think I'm getting up that embankment. So I've tied one end of the rope to this side of the bridge, and we need to get this end of the rope [indicating the bit in his hand] onto the other side. Not sure I could make it there comfortably, but we do have a nice bit of rope to pull some one back up if they don't make it."

Looking around he asks "Any volunteers?!"

Marcon laughs, putting his rucksack on the ground again and grabbing the free end of the rope.

"'I'll merely need someone to carry my bag.'" He quotes 'The Humbling River' from memory, then leaps the chasm.

Seeing how well Marcon made his jump, Tortetarte also chooses to make the run and jump to the other side.
"Here goes everything!!"
