I narrow my eye's at the Saxon clan leader. "Easy there, Zarka. Or do I need to remind you what happens when you speak poorly of Manda'lor in my presence?"

I raise an eyebrow. "Do I speak poorly? I was only commenting that now that she has arrived, our final push for Presidential Palace can begin. She will be leading the charge, after all."

Enra Rook

"We shouldn't keep her waiting." I brush a lock of black hair out of my face and head towards the doors to the landing pad, curtly motioning the other chiefs to follow. Zarka and Temari were both old and ornery warriors, and it was all too common for the old bulls to butt heads for dominance. I was still young compared to them, though I was still old enough to be Mand'alor's mother. Maybe one day I would become as prickly as the elders, but right now, I had the respect of my clan and the trust of Mand'alor. That was enough.

Shaking my head at the Saxon Clan leader, I take up my position waiting for Manda'lor at the door as Clan Rook escorts her in, my helmet tucked under my arm and my stance wide. Today would be a great day for our people, one way or another.

Mandalore the Risen

The Clan Rook fighters land on either side of my shuttle, and a small vanguard of Rook warriors, led by their Aliit'alor, Enra. The ramp of my shuttle lowers and I exit, along with my personal guard of Ori'ramikade.

Enra Rook

I kneel, and my vanguard follows. "Welcome to the front, Mand'alor. We have eagerly awaited your arrival."

Mandalore the Risen

I motion for her to stand. "And I have eagerly awaited the chance to finally put and end to Jorg Sucal and his Republic dogs. I trust you and the other Aliit'alor have been planning how to accomplish that?"

Enra Rook

I rise. "Yes, Mand'alor. Temari Ordo can explain in greater detail. Her years of strategy are invaluable to our war effort." I walk to the left of and slightly behind Mand'alor as we both make our way back into the makeshift command center.

When Manda'lor and Aliit'alor enter the room, I offer a bow to Manda'lor. "Glad you could join us, Manda'lor. How goes the battle in orbit?"

"It seems the roles have reversed." I remove my helmet and shake out my short blonde hair. "We arrived as the conquerors and battered the Republic defenses. Now we blockade the planet, and it is the Republic that sends ships from outer systems to try and break our defenses." I smile. "And I am pleased to say we are holding out far better than them."

Zarka Saxon

I bow. "Excellent news. If only our fight here on the ground was going as well."

Mandalore the Risen

"You're talking about the dome? Clever thinking on the Chancellor's part, but a great drain on the planet's power grid. I imagine some of the lessor neighborhoods are going without power because of it. The coward alienates his own people in order to protect himself." I look to Temari. "And as I understand, the people are responding accordingly. How go the efforts of the Revolution?"

"Well, from the reports that Gavin and Cosen receive. With the updated weaponry we provided them and helped them to procure from the Republic, they can take a street or hold one as well as their enemy and better in some cases. They were even able to find a way into the dome to shut it off."

I nod. "That is good news. I knew recruiting these people would pay off. What strange times we live in that the people of Coruscant view Mandalorians as their saviors."

Zarka Saxon

"It was the only smart choice they had. When we crush the Republic and take Coruscant for ourselves, they will be forced to submit to our leadership... right?"

Mandalore the Risen

I hesitate for a fraction of a moment before replying. "Of course. Those who accepted us and lent us aid will be rewarded, and those we oppose us will be dealt with." Eager to guide the topic back in the proper direction, I ask, "Where are the Greshh twins now? Have they been cooperating? Cosen especially I am interested to hear about."

"They are very cooperative. They've been meeting with a pair of lieutenants they remembered from their father's time in charge to coordinate their efforts. Cosen has been particularly helpful and adjusted well to filling the role her father once did." I'm pacing as I speak and pass close to Manda'lor and speak quietly and quickly so only she hears. "I would speak in private with you when we're done here." Moving past her, I indicate the sewer line. "In fact, it was Cosen's scouts who found our way into the shield. Enra suggested taking the Twins' mother, which would be good. She'll be able to shut down the shield and buy us the most time to inflict damage on the Republic forces hiding behind the shield."

I shake my head. “I still don’t trust that girl. She’s a liar and a thief. A manipulative Sith spawn. Let her believe we trust her, but never take your eyes off of her. As soon as you do, she’ll plant her blade in your back. I just know it.” I lean over the holomap. “In any case, I’ll need time to look over these plans. You have all done well so far, but the battle is far from over. You are all dismissed for the night.... except you, Temari. I need a word with you in private.” I remain my stern self right up until all the chiefs have left. Once they are gone, I exhale heavily and noticeably relax. “Alright, What is it you need, Ba’buir?”

I take a moment to check outside the door to ensure none of the older chiefs are trying to be clever before closing it and facing Manda'lor. "You are young, Ava Cadera, and sturdier than many Manda'lors before you, but you are still mortal. How is your overall health?" Manda'lor knew that I would only refer to her by her name if I was genuinely concerned, and I was pretty sure I was the only Mandalorian who could get away with it.

I give Temari a tired smile. “Physically, I am at the peak efficiency. I’ve been doing extra training drills every morning to prepare for this fight.” My smile falters. “But mentally... I am drained. I’ve never commanded this many people before, and they all look to me as the ultimate authority. Every action I take will have consequences that effect everyone around me, and every mistake is likely to get a lot of good people killed.” I cross my arms and lean against the holo table. “I know some of the Clan Chiefs talk about me behind my back. They think I’m too inexperienced to lead. I only became Mand’alor because I beat Mandalore the Punisher in combat. I’m sure many of the older warriors are upset they now have to take orders from someone a third their age, and has friends outside the clans. So, it has become my responsibility to not only prove I am a capable leader, but that I can put my ‘other relationships’ aside for the betterment of my people.”

I nod, though a frown does rest on my face. "Did you know that they think you chose Cosen and the Revolution because of her past with HJ Twilight? That their involvement was influenced as much by those 'other relations' as tactical sense?"

I momentarily grit my teeth. “I chose her because she is the last link to Greshh. Because she is the one that the Revolution will follow, and the Revolution are the ones that can turn people to our side. The fact that I have a past with her is coincidental... though I’ll admit, I enjoy seeing her pay for her crimes against us.” I pause, trying to hide the conflict on my face. Perhaps part of using Cosen was personal, but so what? My first priority was the battle. Revenge was just a bonus.

"Manda'lor." I face the young woman head on, my eyes even with hers. "Do you know why I've served as an adviser to both the Clan Chief of Clan Ordo and Manda'lor over the years, rather than taking either mantle myself?"

I face Temari, trying not to let my self doubt show. It was still odd seeing these older warriors that I once looked up to now taking orders from me. “Why is that, Temari?”

"Because despite all the respect I command, that you could command, when you ascend to a position such as Clan Chief or Manda'lor, it is no longer who you were or what you have learned along the journey that defines you. Your honor is no longer what you define it to be, it becomes what the clan defines or, as is your case, young Manda'lor, the entirety of all the clans that determines it. The lessons you learned? To let go, to move past, to get stronger for your own sake, not those who would judge you, they no longer matter." I sit across from Ava and maintain my gaze.

"You did a brave thing, becoming Manda'lor to save us from becoming pawns in yet another Sith's game, but I would ask that you not loose yourself in it, else your love for HJ Twilight will mean nothing. Forgive Cosen Gressh and move on, because grudges only lead to death. My lost husband would know."

I bristle at the mention of HJ. Taking on an all business attitude once again, I turn towards the holo display. “As always, I thank you for your wise council, Temari. I’ll keep what you have said in mind as I get ready for the final assault on the Senate District.” I pretend to study the map more. “Before I arrived, I heard several reports that more ‘allies’ have arrived on the planet, using the pass phrase I gave the Twilights. Do you know anything about this?”

I shake my head, knowing that she was young and then shake it again at her question. "I was not given specifics on who they are and to my knowledge, they have not come here. I do know Jerus Je'and's ship arrived planet side some time ago."

“Jerus Je’and. HJ’s father. Perfect.” I say the last part sarcastically. “I’ll have the security watch keep an eye for them. We are all friends, but I don’t want them bursting in and trying to take control. They have a habit of forcing their ‘family values’ into every situation.” I turn away from the map. “It disturbs me that HJ would give out my pass phrase so easily. I told him I didn’t want to be disturbed during this op, yet I’ve received no less than three different reports of ships passing the blockade using that code. I’ll need to make a list of who each of these interlopers is.”
