Cesidia gasps softly when she sees them. "Mama. Daddy," she whispers, then looks at Dhar. "Is that really them? How do they look so young?"

Cesidia takes a deep breath and approaches them. "Mother? Father?"

The woman's eyes widen. "Cessie?! Oh, my darling!" She hugs Cesidia tightly.

The man frowns. "Cesidia, please don't tell me your dead. Not this young."

Cesidia shakes her head and smiles. "No, I'm here because of Dharichar." She smiles at him.

At the mention of the demon, Cesidia's mother releases her and looks at him. "You love her."

"Lucy," the man says in warning. He sighs. "Look, boy, just because my wife can find it in her heart to welcome you doesn't mean I want or approve of a demon hanging around my daughter, especially if it's to commingle."

"Father!" Cesidia says indignantly at the same time that Lucilia says, "Darien!"

Darien huffs through his nostrils. "Depends on how much you want her on her back."

A muscle flares in Cesidia's jaw. "That's it. I'm not listening to this anymore. That's enough, Father. If you have to grill anyone, grill me. I made the first move, and it's a mutual attraction. I love him, and no he didn't slip anything in my drink or brainwash me."

"Cesidia," Lucilia warns softly.

"No! I'm sick and tired of keeping my mouth shut. I let you and father make my life, but not anymore. I'm a grown woman, and I'm capable of making my own decisions, and I chose Dharichar and I'm not going back on it. Ever. Nothing you can say will change my mind and you both know that. And if I get pregnant by him, neither you nor anyone else is going to make me feel guilty because all I can think about is how much I want a family, a future with him." Cesidia holds his hand.

Lucilia smiles, her eyes brimming with happy tears. "Oh, Cesidia. You found it. True love."

Lucilia blushes faintly and smiles. “Your too kind. My Cesidia’s beauty is all hers.”

Darien nods. “A promise that you won’t hurt her, that you’ll cherish her, and that any child she bears by you,... that it will be loved.”

Cesidia’s eyes widen and she blushes and laughs nervously. “That sounds awfully similar to a wedding vow, father.”
