Before I go through the effort of making a group on ESPN for this -- is anyone else filling out a bracket? Remember, there's an actual billion-dollar reward in it for you if you happen to call everything right.

It usually refers to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Sometimes referred to as 'The Big Dance,' or just 'The Dance;' the broader term 'March Madness' also includes the end of the regular basketball season (and the crowning of 'regular season champions' in each conference); conference tournaments (smaller tournaments between teams that regularly play one another); the NCAA tournament (massive, single-elimination championship, which includes all of the 'Conference Tournament' winners and the best teams from the season, for a field of 68 competitors); and also the NIT tournament (played by teams that missed the 'Big Dance,' but still won lots of games -- sort of like an 'honorable mention' tournament).

Ironically, the 'Final Four' and the championship game are typically played in early April, because it takes a few weeks to narrow the field.

I only got a little bit, but I got that it's some bug basketball thing. I'm not supprised I didn't know what it meant, as I have never been too into basketball. But thanks for explaining!

Sorry, yes. Short answer, it's the last little bit of college basketball for the year. Lots of really exciting stuff if you're into sports; even if you're not, it's pretty common to 'fill out a bracket' (guessing the winners of each game) and compete with friends or family or co-workers, sort of like betting on a horse race, but much more innocuous. There's usually a prize for guessing right the most; this year, billionaire Warren Buffet is sponsoring a billion-dollar payout if anyone can guess 100% of the winners (which basically never happens, but it's fun to pretend).

I'm sure it's still better chances than the Mega Millions or Powerball lotteries.
