Character Concept

A Monser in the Making(?)
Cletus is a kid who feels trapped and weak, having to suck up to an alcoholic step-father who's just as likely to strike him as he is to try and talk to the boy if he does anything out of hand and fear disappointing a mother who tries her best to be understanding but also expects the world of her little boy. He spends every day having to deal with hazing and bullies, eager to push him around because they know no one will stick up for him and that he won't fight back. Most of all, he has to stand firm against dark desires he's had since he was small, looking at ants and spiders, lizards and rats, anything that he could get his hands on . . . that was to weak to fight back.

Cletus doesn't want to hurt people. He doesn't want to like having that power, that control that comes from holding the life of another being in his hands. But one night, as he a pair of bullies took things a bit too far. . . he found something. His memories of the events were foggy, filled with only blood, screams, and. . . freedom. The purest, most unburdened sense of freedom he had ever experienced in his young life. But when he woke up in his bed the next day, he was not alone. Another now shared his body, his mind, his experiences, and most concerningly, his urges.

Ever since his transformation, Cletus has tried his best to keep a handle on this new being, whom he has taken to call Red due to its scarlet coloration.

Detail your concept/goals/etc here.

Key Notes

Cletus wants to join the Navy, seeing it as an escape from his issues and his rough home life/

Vacuo.

A fierce land bearing a history of struggle, independence, and communal survival. To live here is to fend against vicious grimm unlike anything you've ever seen, to withstand the blazing heat or chilling colds of the desert wastes, and hope that the bandits and marauders who call those wastes home never find your defenses wanting. It is a land that often seems to reject the very concept of habitability and devour settlement after settlement down into its dusty gullet beneath the sands. But as dangerous and unruly the land proves to be, the people who call it home are ever more so.

Stubborn survivalists to every man, woman, and child, the people of Vacuo are a rambunctious lot who see every obstacle as just a challenge to overcome, every danger as a thrilling experience to toughen their hides and prove their mettle, and never give in to the pressures of their home. They are as wild as they are welcoming, the need to survive often overcoming most forms of petty animosity. But this sense of community is as much a curse as it is a blessing. For as friendly as they appear in the moment, Vacuans possess a long memory. They remember clearly, in tales told around campfires, the oppression they once faced from the nations of Mantle and Mistral, of the strict rule of such foreign powers that nearly burned the world in their desires to control it all.

And that is where you come in, an aspiring Huntsman or Huntress of Shade Academy, seeking to be one of the brave men and women who defend Vacuo from all threats and hardships that come her way. But just like the land they call home, many Vacuans react somewhat poorly to the Huntsman of Shade. They fear the power we hold, watching our every move in preparation for an over-reach that could signal the possible beginning of a new tyrant. The balance of powers and responsibility between Shade Academy and the governing bodies of the large nomadic cities that make up the heads of Vacuo has always been tenuous at best, as Shade must always prove its efficacy at managing the whole of the Kingdom as it does, while also being careful not to make moves that remove too much autonomy from the other cities. And that has grown ever more difficult now more than ever.

With Grimm activity and bandit raids occurring all across the kingdom at an all-time high and many local governments questioning the necessity of Shade academy as an institution. . . it is up to you, fine students, to prove them wrong. You must go out and show them that Shade is more than ready, but capable of taking out these new threats. From this moment on, you represent Shade Academy as young Hunts, am aspiring to greatness, a defender of the stubborn, ornery, and downright nasty piece of work that we Vacuans are proud to call our Home.

Chasing Shadows aims to be a sort of mix of some of the best parts of both early RWBY and the more recent Volumes to make an engaging RP with a focus on exploring characters, collaborating with your fellow role-players to enable fun plots and character moments, cool anime shenanigans, and so on and so forth.

As stated in the above blurb, this RP takes place in the Kingdom of Vacuo, a rough desert wasteland filled with all manner of nasty beast, terrifying Grimm, and even worse bandits for the characters to face off against, all the while being drawn into a much larger conflict that seems to be happening behind the scenes(No, not that one). As such, the way I'm structuring this RP will be one or two teams of students lead by a more veteran Huntsman because, in Vacuo, you don't have the luxury to learn in the safety of a classroom all day and nothing teaches faster than good ol' practical experience.

  • Typical RP rules(Be respectful, don't start drama, follow the site guidelines, etc.)
  • Looking for 1-2 teams, up to a max of 8 players.
  • Sheets will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. No reserves, no "first come, first served"
  • Silver Eyes: If you want to try and submit one you can, but you'll face more scrutiny than other sheets by a fair margin.
  • I want most of the cast to be Vacuan locals, but there can be a few students from other kingdoms.
  • Color name rule is in place.
  • Posting Standards: About 1 paragraph minimum, and around 1 post a week.

Class Skills
Presence Concealment: A

Personal Skills

Noble Phantasms:

Name:
Title: Fall of Xibalba
Rank: A or EX?
Type: Anti-Noble Phantasm
Range: N/A
Targets: N/A
Description: The ultimate display of trickery that spelled the downfall of an entire underworld, this NP crystalizes the most famous moment of their legend. In order to activate this Noble Phantasm, the two twins must agree to deceive a known target(a singular servant, a normal person, a major organization, etc.), whispering their name to each other to enact the pact. Once a target is chosen, a new target can't be selected until the initial pact has been completed.

The twins must, in some major fashion, perform a deception against the target that causes them to either commit serious harm against themselves or work against their own best interest in a disastrous fashion. If they succeed in this task, the Twins must then reveal their hand in the downfall of their foes for the full effect of the Noble Phantasm to take effect, causing the target's "downfall".

The exact nature of this effect is hard to predict, but no matter what the case, the target is marked with a symbol of doom that trains them of all their power. Noble Phantasm falter and fail, Abilities either weaken or cease functioning at key moments, or the very essence of their being begins to slowly corrode away as they lose their foundations for being. No matter the case, this curse shall remain on the target for as long as a brother draws breath. Not only that, but cursed targets also find themselves at an additional disadvantage at facing the twins that so tricked them, taking a downgrade to all stats while opposing the twins, while the twins gain a bonus.

Name: Khairi Ilunga
Titles: Something something Thunder

Appearance:

Sex: Male

Alignment:Neutral Good

History: Outline:
> trained from a Young age to take over for his father as a Diviner
> Showed great talent in the mystical arts and proved to advance quickly
> Tragedy strikes when a foreign magi comes to their village, claiming to be a fellow enthusiast of ancient stories of their people
> His father is murdered by this magi, who wanted to actually steal a ancient relic of the family, rumored to be a relic of the mighty Mwindo
> The magi, attempting to cover his tracks, tries to use the artifact to wipe out the vilalge. Instead gets struck with seven bolts of lightning, smiting him for his sheer gaul
> Khairi, after a period of grieving and feeling robbed of even a chance of getting bakc at the fool who took his father for him, starts to look into ways to bring his father back
Eventually finds out about the grail war
> Also takes to studying magecraft abroad, to further his skills in preparation for the dangers of the war

Personality: Khairi is a studious and diligent young man, who always does his best to help those he finds in need. A natural-born leader of sorts, he greatly values his empathy and skills at working with the talents of others to work towards a common goal. That being said, the man is known for holding a grudge for longe rthan one can probably consider necessary or healthy, particularly against foreign magi. To Khairi, many of the magi he has encountered during his travels abroad have been arrogant, dismissive of people, and so caught up in their own searches for truth that they don't care who or what gets hurt on their path towards it.

It was a reality he was not completely unaware of, but seeing it with his own eyes did much to plant a number of prejudices in his head when dealing with other magi. No matter how polite they seem, no matter how good hearted
they seem, or open to conversation they claim to be, the young diviner is expecting callousness, deception, and arrogance to be hiding just under the surface. Perhaps not the best mindset to have in most circumstances, but he knows that for the coming Grail War, he'll have more justification then ever to be wary of other Magi.
Magecraft:

Possession(Ancestral): Khairi practices an ancient form of Animisim, using small anecdotes of stories and ritualistic memorabilia, to channel into himself the spirits of his ancestors. Through this invocation, he allows their knowledge, wisdom, and prowess to flow into his own body. This magic is used to help modify and hone his focus while casting spells. It can also be used to facilitate conversations with spiritual entities or temporarily grant the user with the traits they

Evocation(Thunder): The Ilunga lineage claims to have gained their connection to the spiritual through the divine blood of Nkuba, god of Lightning, either through a blessing of descending from his coupling with amortal Diviner in times long past. While the veracity of this tale is certainly in question, what is apparent is how the Ilunga family has always boasted an impressive affinity for the element of lightning and electricity in their magecraft and Khairi is no exception. While not originally taught in the ways of offensive use of the spell,

Healing

Divination

Magic Crest(Oral tradition)

Quality of Circuits: A+

Quantity of Circuits: B

Elemental Affinity: The element of one’s magecraft, sometimes called alignment. Typically one, sometimes two, and exceptional magi are ‘Average Ones’, able to use all elements. Most use the Western system of Fire/Water/Earth/Wind (Plus some other special cases), but the Eastern system of Wood/Fire/Earth/Metal/Water is sometimes used too.

Attribute: Commune

Magecraft: Further magecraft details. No need for a spell list or anything like that, this should be a more general overview of what they can do. Include ‘General Magecraft’ here if your character has basic Magecraft training; check the help section for details on what this includes.

Mystic Codes: Ancestral Conga-scepter, allegedly wielded by Mwindo, a legendary figure. A tempermental relic, it offers a wielder who it deems worthy to a powerful conduit for their magecraft, particularly those related to that of calling Lightning or healing those near death's door. However, becoming reliant on the scepter leads to it becoming irritated and less co-operative with the wielder, fighting back against their every incantation until, if they don't ease up on its use for a time or make a proper sacrifice to Nkuba, it smites them with
seven strikes of lightning.

A number of Fetishes and Masks with which he has imbued Mana and ancestral memories into. Some can be used as a source of power, while others help him accelerate his use of certain magics, or even grant him access to ones he has not formally studied.

[indent]All CS's should hold all information provided. If the format is too fancy, play around with it. Simplify it. Just make sure the proper information is there. Uniformity is nice, but it only equates to a brownie point. Also, if you can use anime faceclaims (particularly the cool silhouette kind like I have for my character) that'd be swell.

addressing:

"It's not like I've got much else to boast about in my Scionic tenure so far. Had to spend a lot of time learning my numbers and leters to a 'proper level' from a number of frustrated tutors. And can we not with the formalities, Holly, it's bad enough I have to deal with it from Bianca and the other church members, but amongst Scions I'd prefer to be a tad more casual." Especially one who I've planned several get aways with when we were younger. Justinian grumbles internally but takes the jab with a good natured smile. That nature did become a bit strained as Jarrick spoke up, the gem in his hand cracking with a bit more force as he lost focus of the construction for a moment. While not the most socially adept of those present by any means, one doesn't spend a majority of their Scion career as the 'Problem child' without picking up a sense for when people are poking at you.

"Oh, you know, one incident too many and Gra-Commander Fyodor put someone more my speed in charge. Harder to get out and do things now, but I still make a vlog now and then. Recently been using some of Kaspar's books to study up onmore conventional magic which has been. . . slow going. Still do the exercise, rock gardening, even regular gardening though I'm no Isdore. If that sounds like something you'd like, catch me live some time, or a few of the Vods." If it had been a few years ago, he might've tried to bite back at the Wind Templar, but time with Bianca had cooled him. . . somewhat. It had at least forced the young man to look for the silver-linings in such situations and focus his attention on those. In this case, that the Templar had a brother who was,or at least had been, a fan. Ignoring the statement at first, the scion gestures with his cookie laden fingers to his pocket. A slight shimmer of amber mana preceeds signs of movement until a small piece of quartz floats up into the air between. "Don't know if your brother still watches, but I can do an autograph if you want?"

If Jarrick did provide him a name, Justinian fills it out as he holds his hands over the rock, the surface of the rock cracking and shifting until a message of thanks forms onit's face, with the signature being a stylized form of Justinian's own intials in a Diamond shape. After that he'd pass the rock over to the templar(or pocket it if he refused) and give a short bow of farewell before continuing on his way to present his gift to the Prince. There would be time later to have a battle of wits and barbs, but right now he was trying to keep positive. Today started awful, he had felt awful, but that didn't mean it had to end awful. Focus on silverlinings, don't think about what you can't deal with.

As thoughts turned towards present matters, however, the cookies were swiftly devoured and the scion began gnawing on his thumb's knuckle. An old habit from when he was young and yet so familiar that he didn't even notice it until he broke the skin. Looking down at the small wound, he clicks his tongue. It was just nerves, and a bit of anxiety. Nothing new, and nothing he hadn't dealt with. Silver linings. Control what he can, like the aquamarine in his hand.

The shape for the gem had catalyzed pretty firmly by now, a gem shaped like a shield crest inscribed with both the Estoran family crest and the Holy Sigil of the mother, the internal structure of the stone rearranged so that light focused through it would illuminate the Holy sigil. A fine enough gift for the royal prince, even if he expected nothing more than sour words and a scoff. He'd done his duty as a Scion, both offical and self-imposed, and it could never be said that he hadn't at least tried to be nice.

As he approached, however, he got some of the words Kasper and Lucas were trading. Well, mostly Lucas' words focused on the little princess who was now running around the room like a bat out of hell. THe earth scion likely would've tried to encourage her play a bit in a greeting if not for what he heard from the High Prince's lips.

"Veradis works differently than other countries, you know. The Scion of Light is the one who rules the principality. So Rosemary's not just a princess, but a ruler once she comes of age. Her great-grandfather got to have some semblance of a normal life before his own holy sigil appearing at fourteen. So why is Rosemary destined to carry that burden that has been chosen for her since the tender age of two years old?"
Logically, even Justinian knew the high prince had some measure of a point. Ruling a nation was no small weight to place on a child's shoulders and in anyone else, he would've considered it a point of concern. But coming out of Lucas, it felt like he was just spitting on the gift that had been given to him, to Rosemary, to all of the Scion's present to describe the blessing as such. It had been a life-saving miracle for many, himself included. But the way the Prince spoke, the way he had been acting throughout this entire event at the fringes of Justinian's attention, it sounded like it all amounted to little more than an inconvience to his precious devil-may-care royal life. Justinian's grip tightens around his 'gift' as a new design came to his mind, though he had no confusion where this inspiration came from. All of the feelings he'd felt these past few months, the anger, the frutration, the helplessness, it all flowed into the gem as its composition responds to his will and mana.

Funny that, in what had taken him minutes of chatter, thinking, and contemplation to buy time for, Justinian's anger had managed to finish something similar if not more complex in a matter of moments. Like everything he did, he found it came easier when he no longer let his mind focus on anything but the action itself. Consequences could be dealt with, he had something to say and he was going to say it.

'Bianca's probably going to talk my ear off about this later.' The Scion thinks idly as he approaches the Prince, alerting the royal to his presence by clearing his throat, ever so polite. By now his right hand was no longer glowing with amber, instead trailing a cloud of sparkling light blue particles in as he holds it out to the young man.

"I hope I'm not being a bother to you, My Prince," Justinian said without the slightest intonation of remorse while looking the High Prince dead in the eye. He didn't keep any of the disdain of his face, though his tone remained cool and collected. "I just wish to give you a small gift, as I have given to other Scion's that have been chosen during my tenure. An aquamarine gem, shaped with you and the legacy you bring to your new station firmly in mind."

Without any added fanfare, he unveils the finished creation.

It still retains some of the inital principles he'd thought of, a simple shield crest shape that held s combine image of the Estoran Royal family crest and Incepta's holy sigil. But only the Incepta's sigil kept the light blue color of polished aquamarine, still somehow refracting the light of the cathedral so as to appear glowing. The rest of the crystal, however, was dull and distorted as if seeing reflections of the Estoran Crest through a fun house mirror. A perfect reflection of the Prince, in Justinian's eyes, whose first worthwhile deed was being picked as a Scion in the first place. Whether the Prince understood the meaning of the gift or thought it just a off color joke, the Scion of Earth didn't really care.

Theo was gone, the man who'd let it happen was getting off scott free, and the man who replaced him was a spoiled princeling that was probably going to do just as much good for the kingdom as he'd done before. MIght as well get some petty enjoyment out of snubbing his nose a bit if he was going to have to spend the rest of his life hearing about such an embrassment to Incepta's blessing.

What a farce indeed.
