It was a chilly night in New York City, New York. James "Wildcard" Cliff was on his typical path home, waiting for the subway. Rats skittered about, giving him the chills. It was cold underground- especially at ten PM. He'd gotten off of work much later than normal, but he had no family waiting for him. He checked his phone. The train was late. He began to pace. This is bad. It needs to get here, or I could be stuck here all night. I could take the bus if I need to, I guess. He waited for the arrival of his train. Nearby, others were also getting restless- probably with families to get home to. James was lucky since he didn't have anybody to get home to at the moment. Normally, he had a girlfriend but he had recently broken up again.

Lajila Nox

Lajila, better known as Jila, waited as patiently as she could for the train. It was already an hour past the time she had meant to get back to her apartment, and she was getting annoyed. She had ordered a pizza and was planning to have a solo movie night where she stayed up past two in the morning and watched horror movies and such. But her plans were pretty much canceled by the late train. What the hell is taking them so long? I need to go home, She thought, pacing a slight bit. Despite her looks, she wasn't very good at figuring out why things happened as such. She froze as her eyes snapped shut. She was plunged into a scene that made her heart race and her skin pale.

Farther down the track, from a god-like perspective, Jila could see the train's engine, hurtling at a shockingly fast speed. Then it skidded to a stop, causing a terrible screeching sound that- if heard from a distance- could be mistaken for a bird. The train's engine burst into flames, the blaze spreading too quickly for anybody to contain. Every passenger on that train died- including Jila.

Her eyes flew open and she stumbled, almost falling. A few bystanders shouted at her to watch where she was going and she lowered her head. How many people die today? I have to get as many of them to not take the train as possible. But nobody is going to listen to me. It's not worth it, She sighed, fidgeting with her hands as she stood near the edge of the platform, waiting. She only had one thought in her mind- I should have taken the bus.

Lily walked over to the train station, glad she hadn't missed the train, her lavender colored tail and ears moved as she sat on a bench and watched everyone, her eyes sparkling as she hummed a low melody. She wondered what was taking the train so long, she swung her legs like a child. Come onnnnn, it shouldn't take this long for a stupid train to arrive.. She thought to herself, she had long, silky lavender hair that always attracted people because it was her natural color, which almost nobody believed, everyone thinking she had dyed her hair and ears and tail.

She sighed, Rolling her eyes as a couple walked past her, whispering to themselves, her ears swerving and catching a few words.. Just get in already! Hey stop, stop! She played no attention to the people around her, a cherry smile on her face as she patiently waited for the train to come.

James noticed how close the woman was to the tracks. Odd. Why is she so close? That's not safe... He thought, debating whether or not to approach Lajila and tell her how dangerous her position was. He decided to do it, knowing that he should probably make sure the woman didn't get hurt- even if he didn't know her. It was always good to look out for others. He slowly walked up to her, careful not to startle her.
James cleared his throat to get the woman's attention before speaking. "Excuse me, miss. I don't think you should be so close to the tracks. It's rather dangerous, would you agree?" His voice was firm but hushed, almost soothing.

Jila spooked as the man spoke, tripping a step back. Stupid man! I was doing fine! She thought, scowling at him. Yet, despite herself, she nodded and took a controlled step back from the tracks. She didn't say a word, sliding her phone from her pocket but only turning it on to check the time. Even if she did speak, she wouldn't know hat to say to the man. He called me "miss." Strange. A formal man indeed. Kinda cute- no- bad Jila. No thinking like that. She scolded herself. There was no way she was letting herself fall for somebody older than her.

Lily saw the people over by the track, brows furrowing in worry for how close they were standing, of course, they could just move away, but it still got her worried, she stretched and looked around. Come on train, hurry already.. She thought, stretching, her tail flicking in her lap were it sat, her ears lowering a bit as she suddenly didn't hear the couple anymore, they could have just moved to a different place, but it still got her attention enough for her to be a little worried.

James studied the woman, wondering why she hadn't thanked him. Then again, most people these days were disrespectful. He shrugged and walked away, mindlessly heading for a bench. He paused as he noticed Lily sitting on it. He sighed. Great. The only open bench half taken. This is awkward. He groaned inwardly then spoke. "May I sit?" He asked, indicating the open seat on the bench.

Jila shook her head, slightly annoyed that she had been bothered. She'd been fine before, though a bit rattled by her vision. She'd been having visions lately, and it annoyed her since she didn't understand why. I shouldn't be having them. I'm probably just going insane from the city fumes, She thought, sighing as she heard the whistle of a train in the distance. But the platform was still restless. She checked her travel app, which said that the train was still at least twenty minutes out. Twenty minutes is too long. NYC is supposed to have decent subway systems- it's why I moved here, goddamnit. She thought bitterly, moving to get away from the population, considering the cold glares she got for being a solo-traveling woman. She was used to it.

Lily looked up, ears flicking as she watched the guy. "Sure." She said, looking around again, tail curling in her lap. Come on train.. She thought to herself, sighing softly as her ears flattened more.

James sat, though it was a bit awkward. He was used to awkward by now. "Which train are you waiting for?" He asked. If she doesn't answer, then whatever. Just rather not awkward silence like most of the conversations I end up in, He thought, internally sighing. He'd had a long day and needed an honest break. To even his own surprise, though, he kept an eye on the woman who had been near the tracks, as if to make sure she didn't get too close again. Why do I even care? People die on the tracks all the time. She'd have been no different.

Jila leaned against the subway wall, closing her emerald eyes. She yawned silently, covering her mouth with her hand by habit. I need a nap. There's probably a pizza sitting outside my apartment- or somebody stole it. Oh well. It's cold by now anyway. Jila didn't really care if the pizza was cold; she had a microwave. She was just bored, and her lack of entertainment showed. Her grip on her phone was decently loose, but the pop socket- which was white with gold glitter floating around inside of it- kept the device in her hand.

Lily looks down at her card number which had her train number on it, it was the same bus as him, she showed it to him. "This one." She said, her tail swishing against the ground as she yawned and stretched. She smiled to herself as she heard the couple again, glad they were alright and not unalive.

James glanced at her card, then at his own. Same train. Interesting. He thought. "Ah. Same as me. Very interesting." His card, which he then showed her, also read A Line. Destination: Brooklyn Center Time: 21:30 He checked his watch then. "Two hours late. What's the delay?" He muttered, glancing around.

Jila sighed. Where the hell is the motherfucking train? It should be here by now! I have to get home before somebody steals my damn pizza- which is probably cold and eaten by rats already, now that I think about it. People always steal my pizza, or it gets eaten by rats and I can't eat it. Curse NYC subways- slow as fuck, She thought, shifting her weight. As she did so, a teenager passed her and managed to snatch her phone as it slid from her hand- despite her pop socket. She balanced but when she tried to call out, she couldn't. Fuck.

"This subway seemed to be late as fuck, much more later than normal." She commented, tail twitching and ears parking as she looked over to the teen who had snatched Jila's phone, she stood and went over to the teen, snatching the phone. "Hey, you don't take phones from people, now scram." She hissed, tail fluffed, she went over to Jila. "Here's your phone!" She said, handing Jila her phone back.

James followed Lily, sighing. "Teenagers these days." Idiot teenager. Why would you take her phone? Actually, I don't want to know. He thought, glaring after the teenager but not saying another word. He had no words to say.

Jila smiled thankfully at the Neko, relieved. But she did not speak, since she never did. She took the phone and studied her shoes, fidgiting with the pop socket for a moment before turning her phone on and opening the notes app, just in case she had to communicate. This is awkward. I'm grateful but...

"Your welcome." Lily said in response to the thankful smile, her tail curling around her leg as she looked down the tracks. "The train sure is late isn't it." She commented, her ear flicking as she heard him come up beside them.

"Yep. I never got either of your names," James noted passively. He kept his tone passive and casual since he was just making conversation at this point. He was unaware that Jila didn't speak, so his question was half directed at her. If he'd known, he wouldn't have worded the request for the women's names the way he had.

Jila almost winced at the question, knowing how awkward this was about to be. She glanced at her phone then typed with one hand. She never used both hands to type on her phone, since she had a right-hand keyboard and her pop socket kept it in her hand. This will be interesting, She thought, slightly bitter. This interaction would probably be the most interaction she'd had in weeks- if not months.

I'm Lajila. She wrote, showing her screen to the other two.
