In the beginning, there was a but a great blackness. A primordial chaos of which there were no spirits, no dreams, no time, and no life. It was a great Divergence that wreaked and raged without end or purpose. However, one day, Six Deities descended upon the interminable chaos. Being soverign representations of their individual principles, these figures would later become known as the Scions.

The Scion of Elements
The Scion of Alchemy
The Scion of Light
The Scion of Souls
The Scion of the Mind
The Scion of Void

With their divine might did they end the madness, and thus carve out a new dawn. The beginning of time, souls, dreams, and life.

A being was snared, the first come forth from the chaos, to create the earliest sprawl of life currently known. The First Flourish of civilization in this new world created by the Gods. This race led an enchanted prosperity during this period, their greatness repaid to the Scions through devoted worship and practice of the arcane arts. However, their prosperity did not last, and soon they would fall victim to the Great Cataclysm. Their race swallowed in a miasmic veil of chaos, the being and her people cried out for salvation to the Gods. But, either their voices were not heard or willingly ignored. The First Flourish died out, and all that remained were nearly silent whispers and decayed ruins.

It is now the year 1306 on the Adventus Calendar. In spite of the devestation wrought by the Cataclysm, various races have been able to reflourish and fill the world. The land has been given the name Velynostica, and has been the cradle for this new age of sorcery.

Humans - Children of Adaptability

Fae/Myrkr - Children of the Deepwood

Belua - Children of Animal Souls

Dwarves - Children of the Mountain

Gnomes - Children of the Mind

These new children of the world practice sorcery on their own terms. Sorcery is a wonderous art, is it not?

Over the ages, the art of magic has been extensively studied, passed down, and refined for more practical use. Between the various races and generations, there is a cultural clash of modern sorcery vs. more traditional forms of spellcasting, the former of which is treated more like a science and academic field of study. This is especially made evident in the advent of magitech, newly developed tools that allow the channeling of magic through sophiscated technology. The only thing that has remained constant in the world of magic are the six princples that the art was founded on.

While this current age is one of relative peace, there are various political and civil tension brewing under the surface. However, there is a true threat that yet remains unchecked. The same poison that nearly destroyed the world millennia ago threatens to do the same once again. As the world deals with interpersonal strife, the darkness seeps from every crack possible, and begins to plunge the fate of lands into chaos.

Then, there's you. Perhaps you are a budding magus, desparate to prove yourself worthy of your family's lineage. Or, mayhaps you are a member of the Holy Church, desparate to keep the practice of magic in check and stave off the darkness. Are you a Fae, who wishes to stay out of the affairs of humans and maintain the peace of the deepwoods? A Dwarf who continues to perfect the craft of iron-making or a Gnome who imbues items with sacred energy, or maybe a Belua looking to seek guidance from Mother Nature.

Whether you're a researcher who wants to make a name in the magitech research industry or a warrior seeking the next challenge, there will always be trials and obstacles to overcome to see what lies beyond the horizon.

So, the only question that remains: What path will you choose?

Heyo! Azureknight here. This is my pitch for a reboot for my previous RP. I decided to give it a much needed revamp and give it another go. Right now, along with other players from the previous build, I'm looking to fill around 3-4 more slots. Once then, I'll have a OCC up with more information.

Please fill free to reach out with any questions or concerns in the meantime!

Seems fascinating.

For clarification, is this a more traditional high-fantasy setting, or something else? When I think magitech and science in a fantasy-esc setting, I think mid-to-late Renaissance era, which is sword & powder.

I am kinda interested and just a thought for a char. How does someone who was brought up in the old ways of magic and seeks to preserve the old ways sound or work?

Yes, this will be a high fantasy setting, but with a different sort of spin on it. There are definitely powder weapons in the setting, but the magitech tools are set apart from that. They are imbued with mana, which allows them to generate various effects.

The era itself is set in a period where the earliest parts of industrialization are taking hold after a period of Renaissance. Some medieval aspects still exist.

Hope that answers your question.

A character like that can work just fine. They would reject the notion of the accessibility of sorcery that has been made to common folk through the advent of magitech and sophisticated academics. They would view magic as a sacred art that should be revered. Like Serie from Freiren's viewpoint or how mages from the Clock Tower in the Fate series feel. Preserving it by hoarding secrets, detracting from those with less magical talent, that sort of thing.

Okay, I may change ideas, but at least I know my first idea works.
