Yup, a new member here.

The name’s actually Steve, but you can also call me Terry since that’s who I’ve been rping as for the last five years as of this writing. I’m a 25 year old dude who’s been rping since 2013. I’ve been part of various fandoms throughout my RP journey, most notably Marvel, Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and WWE.

I’ve always had a thing for writing stories, so if you guys are looking for somebody to plot with, feel free to HMU here. I mostly do lit RPs with action/adventure, fighting, SoL, and romance being the primary genres of choice, though I don’t mind trying out different kinds of RP in the future as long as it isn’t ERP. I might not always be active all the time, but I can always make sure that I won't leave the plot hanging, eventually.

P.S. In case you don’t know, Terry is a reoccurring character from a fairly niche fighting game series, King of Fighters. Hopefully, I’ll meet somebody who RPs fighting game characters around here lol.

Aww, my bad lol. It’s huge in Mexico and China, for sure! So sorry, I just thought I’d be the only one who knew what KOF is like how it was in the other RP forum.

But anyways, thanks for the warm welcome! Good to see a fellow fighting game fan around here. Not sure which fighting game fandoms you’re talking about, but KOF’s been the friendliest I’ve ever joined, thus far. Been there for 5 years, and probably will stay there for as long as I possibly could.

Say, do you write fighting game characters, too? Considering, from the looks of it, we seem to share the same interest.

@Terry Bogard Roleplaying forums are weird melting pots where people with all sorts of interests come together. When I think of niche fighting games, I think of stuff like Sango Fighters, Body Blows, ClayFighter, or Melty Blood if you want something that shows my age less. Really any poverty fighter.

The only fighting game forums I was on were SRK, Holy Zen, and a Melty Blood forum I can't remember the name of. SRK was fine for the most part but there was always drama going on. I can see egos flaring, but there were even people selling arcade parts taking pot shots and smearing mud on each other. You could also "dislike" posts, which seems a little antagonistic. The Melty Blood forum was just a little tiny circle of friends that I joined up with, but they wanted to remove that atmosphere and be more like Melty Bread where it was all serious and they only talked about the games. Well, Melty Bread was already offering that, and they had a lot more engagement than some little nothing forum. So once they stomped out everything that didn't have to do with the game, they had no community and the forum died. I did get to know a few people but have since lost their contact info. Holy Zen was the worst. To be fair, I was quite new to forums at the time and a few members knew exactly how to have fun with someone like that. but it wasn't just me, the Admin (the guy who wrote the guilty gear parody comic) decided to shut the forum down because it was such a disaster. But yes, most of my experiences have been negative. I mostly chalk that up to the competitive nature of fighting game players. I'm glad there are communities out there where that's not the case.

I am rather enthusiastic about fighting games, even if I don't play them too much anymore. My avatar/sig combo features the priest from DFO in fact. But I'm more of an original setting roleplayer that lets themselves get dragged by their friends into other RPs. Most of which have to do with magical girls, though I was in a fighting game themed RP for a bit. I tend to not play as canon characters often because I have an unrealistically strong fear that someone will say I'm acting out of character. I'd rather make something that's my own and have it be judged for how interesting it is.

I'm not sure how you feel about hosting an RP, but I've had good luck making my own. Otherwise, 1x1 takes all sorts. It can just be a little hit or miss. But there are more of us out here, they just don't visit the welcome forum much.

I thought Melty Blood was widely known within the FGC, tho. But yeah, right, if I never joined the FGC, I wouldn’t have known it, either. Funnily enough, I never even knew what Guilty Gear was until I dove deep into the world of fighting games, while I’ve already known KOF since I was barely 10. Granted, I wasn’t as big into fighting games around that time as I’ve been since my mid-school years nor do I live in a place where KOF is a massive hit.

I think maybe you could give the RP side of things a try, perhaps? When I was talking about fandoms, I was also referring to the RP side of them, especially KOF. Considering you’ve been trying fighting game-esque RPs before, I feel like you’d fit just right in with us. Tho, I have to agree that even the friendliest of the fighting game fandoms also has its own share of toxicity. Frankly, I encountered some during my time in the official SNK and Fatal Fury Discord servers that I felt like I wanted to leave them sometimes. It’s not to mention the army of Kyo stans on Twit who had a legitimate heat when Terry was paired with Ryu in the cover of the SVC remaster—which, while understandable, was just a bit too much since they were basically mad at some fictional character, honestly. Outside of those, thankfully, I’ve mostly had the best time being part of the KOF fandom. Hopefully, nothing’s gonna turn it into a shitty mess like those forums you used to be part of.

Normally, I’m always down for some 1×1 RPs, but I’d rather just search for group RPs that suit my muses. The last time I reciprocated an interest check for a 1×1 RP on a different forum site, it didn’t work out too well (“>__<)

@Terry Bogard Niche is sort of a nebulous term anyway. Back in the day, any non-Capcom fighting game was niche. Though after some questionable choices by them and solid moves by Arc and Neather Realms, We've seen Mortal Combat rise above it's campy origins and Arc is really becoming known for solid anime style fighting games. KOF feels like a name that would come up pretty often if you asked people to name 10 fighting games. It's probably not in everyone's top 5, but it's something everyone's heard of. But I don't really know. It's been years since I've been on a fighting game forum.

It's less a lack of will and more a lack of time. I'm currently GMing two forum RPs with sizable casts, participating in about two more, have a full time job, as well as other hobbies and responsibilities outside of that. I would love to play with you down the road, but it's not in the cards right now. And yea, toxicity is everywhere, but some have much more than others.

If you think about it, any genre of gaming can be considered niche, too, and it isn’t exclusive to fighting games only. Dragon Quest is a pretty well known JRPG, yet I used to be hearing Smash players asking who Hero is when he was announced for SSBU. I feel gaming, like any other form of entertainment, has become more and more segmented these days. Unless you’re big into a certain genre, there’s no guarantee you’ll know every single title outside of the heavy hitters. In fighting games’ cases, it’s SF, MK, and Tekken that’s widely known, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time till GG catches up with the big three. I feel like GG is becoming more popular than KOF since Strive came out, while KOF continues to stagnate from the looks of it. Not just KOF, actually, but also any other SNK games. Take CotW for example. Considering its marketing, you’d believe it was gonna sell better than KOF XV, right? But no, it flopped. Flopped so hard that the SNK CEO chose to step down not long after the game’s initial release. Kinda sad, actually, since KOF and Fatal Fury partly inspired GG, and GG used to be this (sorry) very niche fighting game that was only popular within the FGC, yet now the former feels a bit behind the latter when it comes to sales and, I supposed, mainstream appeal.

And I understand. Life happens. I can’t be active all the time, too. Sometimes, too much can be too much, y’know? I can even get exhausted from hopping from one RP plot to another all at the same time lol. Maybe someday, we’ll get to figure it out.

Looks interesting. I might consider it. Tho, mind you, I’ve never joined a history-themed war RP before, so this would be something new. Sure, one of my muses is a soldier/mercenary, but the plot usually revolves around purely fictional settings.

There are a few, but I am only friends with one or two. Or was it some other site (not mentioning any by name, btw, as RPGuild Rules say that all IC RP must be kept on RPGuild and I don't want to tempt anyone to go elsewhere)?
