Zeroth
The world was thriving and at peace when suddenly, up from the abyss, rose a wave of darkness. No one knows where this darkness came from, nor why it is slowly making it way around the world. It began in rural areas, cascading over the villagers and towns, corrupting any who could not fight off the anguish, despair, and regret the wave invokes in whoever it touched. Those who had fallen to its touch, transformed. They grew sadistic, angry, and violent. They developed abilities and magic far stronger than any mortal man could wield. They had a calling within them, to follow the wave and spread it across the land. Soon armies of these vicious beings began to arise and sweep through the towns and villages, consuming each in darkness. Those who did not fall within the abyss were slain and those who were tainted joined the ever growing army. These tainted being eventually gained the title of Grims and they were feared by all. Villages, towns, and soon cities were fearing that the wave would come to them next.

Upon seeing this, the goddess of light decided there needed to be a change. Her powers sought out those pure of heart and who were strong in their convictions. She granted them a powerful skill that could combat the Grims and the dark wave. She provided others with the means to defend their homes from the darkness, sigils that glowed brightly even in the day. Cities were learning to expand upon these sigils and carving them into the walls that surrounded them. Those who were prepared found their city impenetrable by the darkness. The wave of abyss simply split and went around them. And so these cities became safe havens for all who sought protection from the darkness and strongholds for the gathering armies of light. Soon these warriors of light developed their own name as well, Light Bearers.

So now they fight, to push back the darkness, to kill off the Grims, and to eventually bring this world back to its peaceful wonder.

As you can see, this is an rp about dark vs light! The darkness has started to consume the world. Armies of veil creatures and people are ransacking villages and cities, killing any who would try to fight and corrupting any who didn't.

There are three strongholds currently.
-Oakenhaven
A city deep within the Marshhill Woods. This city is full of wooded folks who live off the forest around them.
-Mistmoor
A city high within the mountains. It's citizens are hard people who constantly live within it's cold environment and are well versed in farming and hunting.
-Dogfalls
A large city that sits just on the coast of The Boundless Sea. These people are mostly comprised of sea faring folk who live off the sea and her creatures to survive.

Personality:

  • Diligent

    • Erik is nothing if not a hardworker. Dedicated to the pursuit of his chosen crafts, and loyal to the tasks placed upon him, he rarely abandons his work before completion. This often comes at the expense of a normalized social life, as he prefers to spend his idle time putting in extra work, whether tending to a small detail he might have missed in a prior task, or simply supplemental time to practice one thing or another.
  • Self-Critical

    • You’ll almost never find anyone as quick to critique Erik as quickly as Erik himself. When he’s not actively engaged in something, he is reflecting on what he has done, and analyzing his own efforts several times over. More often than not, he finds a flaw in his prior actions or inactions, and is likely to labor on those mistakes until he can demonstrably do better. It can be hard to pull him out of this headspace, and he often waves aside efforts to assure him that he did or is doing just fine.
  • Load-Bearing

    • As a knight charged with the defense of his city, Erik is one to shoulder great burdens and pressures, especially those associated with his purpose at hand. He frequently assumes responsibility for a great many things. He is one to stretch himself thin; at times he forgets that there are others that [would] share his burden if only he would allow them to.




History: Born and raised within the mountainous landscape of Mistmoor, Erik is descended from a long line of blademasters. Over no less than six generations, the Ostreicher family had lived and died by their swords. At least as far back as Erik’s great-great-grandfather, the family had been among the warriors, soldiers, and knights that directly defended Mistmoor. Starting with his grandfather, the family was also responsible for the training of the next generations of baldewielders, having done so in the service of several noble lines.

Needless to say, Erik was born with a great deal to live up to. He has carried a sword at his side since his hand could first grip a hilt; some joke that he could barely lift the swords he was given… others retort that it would have made for good conditioning if he had. Such banter aside, his upbringing meant that he was constantly being pushed on grounds of physical, mental, and spiritual attributes. His grandfather and his father afterwards proved hard taskmasters and tough teachers. Erik would describe having been worked to the bone to condition himself to one day take up his family’s mantle as a protector of Mistmoor; at times, his training may have bordered on abuse, with perfection being demanded at all times.

Since his father and grandfather frequently instructed both soldiers and nobles alike in the arts of combat, Erik has brushed shoulders with many within the city’s upper echelon. He has taken his place at the forefront of Mistmoor’s defensive walls.




Spells and Abilities:

  • Spirit Charge.

    • Erik draws from a pooled reserve of magic to flow directly into his body, amplifying his physical prowess for a short period. Using magic in this manner strains the human body, as the physical essence of a being cannot process energy from beyond so easily. Erik cannot sustain this state for very long. Nor can he use it in rapid succession. Excessive reliance on this ability can lead to fatigue, and possibly even death.
  • Aura Pulse

    • Erick projects an energized aura that can ward off foes, and even block against attacks. The potency of an Aura Pulse is dependent on how wide an area Erik attempts to cover with it. Its effective range is within a ten foot radius, but maintaining a closer range enables it to create a more formidable barrier.
  • Uncanny Prowess

    • Erik’s abilities in combat are commendable to say the least. Perhaps not always the mightiest in strength, or the quickest in his footwork, his surety, awareness, and technical form stand among the elites among those standing against the Darkness.





Weapons or Tools:

  • Aleathen Edge

    • Erik’s primary weapon in combat is a single-handed European-style sword. A 30-inch blade, maintained to pristine condition, glowing with pearly aura, handled from a gold plated hilt that seems to never stain. Erik’s is a blade of long history as one from the early ages of Darkness when the Goddess Aleathen first intervened. The Aleathen Edge was blessed by the Goddess herself, at least they say, making it both significantly more durable and resistant than others like it, and uniquely effective, especially against the hordes of Darkness.
  • Light Forge Shield

    • A Heater style shield, large enough to cover the whole of Erik’s torso from waist to chest. Its white facade is trimmed in gold, featuring a similarly colored sigil of protection. The magic imbued within the shield allows it to repel both physical attacks and offensive spells.
  • Traditional Armor

    • Erik is adorned by a set of armor traditional to the Knights of Mistmoor. It was crafted specifically to fit him when he officially took up arms to the city’s defense. Thus, each piece is uniquely adjusted to his size and form to the greatest extent possible. The metallurgy is that of a tradition from the deeper recesses of the mountains surrounding Mistmoor, the materials having an uncanny mix of both relative light weight and high protective capability for that weight.

Once a brilliant but unrecognized alchemist in the quiet mountain city of Viremont, Kaiji was obsessed with the idea of purity—of body, of magic, of purpose. He believed the world was rotting from within, masked by peace and harmony. When the Abyss came, it didn’t consume him—it recognized him. Kaiji did not resist the anguish or despair. Instead, he embraced the wave as a form of clarity, a baptism into truth.

Transformed, Kaiji retained his intellect and voice of calm, but now with a frightening stillness. He became one of the first to fully command the corruption, rather than be consumed by it. His mind, once rigid in belief, now sees spreading the abyss as a natural evolution of the world—shedding weakness, revealing strength.

    💀 Serpent Shift
    ╰┈➤Kaiji is able to 'melt' into shadows and reform into a black snake. Like all snakes, he has an aversion to cold and cold weather.
    𓆩⟡𓆪Kaiji becomes intangible and cannot attack or cast spells during the shift. If trapped in holy or radiant areas, he may not be able to reform properly.

💀 Ouroboros Sigil
    ╰┈➤ Unlike Light sigils, Kaiji’s personal mark corrupts holy barriers and warps magical defenses when engraved.
    𓆩⟡𓆪If the corrupted sigil is struck by a Light Bearer’s pure strike (with intention and clarity), it will not only revert—it will backfire and injure Kaiji.

💀 Venomous Aura
    ╰┈➤Lowers morale and clarity of mind for nearby enemies; despair surfaces.
    𓆩⟡𓆪Strong-willed Light Bearers or sigil-enhanced armor can block or weaken its effects. Too many targets at once will dilute the aura.

  • ╰┈➤Serpentfang Blades (Dual) - Twin daggers forged from abyssal steel, curved like a snake's fang.
      ▷Coated in venom that paralyzes or disorients when it enters the bloodstream.
      ▷Can phase through light-based barriers once per day.
      ▷If used in a ritual (drawing blood from a target’s neck), can allow Kaiji to hear their thoughts temporarily.
  • ╰┈➤Obsidian Chainwhip: “Nagareth” - A long, segmented whip made of abyss-infused black steel, barbed like a serpent’s spine.
    • ▷Can extend beyond its normal range to wrap or constrict.
      ▷When it strikes a Light Bearer, it dulls the glow of their sigils temporarily.
      ▷Whispers to Kaiji mid-battle, alerting him to the most fearful opponent nearby.

╰┈➤Light Overload: Prolonged exposure to concentrated light (from sigils, divine relics, or powerful Light Bearers) causes his form to destabilize—his skin cracks like porcelain, revealing something monstrous beneath.

╰┈➤Narcissistic Control: He believes he's the only one who truly understands the abyss. This blinds him to betrayal, especially from other Grims.

╰┈➤Obsession with Purity: Kaiji becomes irrational around someone he sees as “uncorrupted.” He may stall or make errors trying to test or “convert” them, even when it’s tactically unwise.

╰┈➤Snake Physiology Vulnerability: Extreme cold affects him more than most Grims—he becomes sluggish, his serpent forms falter, and his venom loses potency.

Lig is always truthful, she rarely ever lies (but she only lies to people she never trusts), and Lig is faithful and very supporting of her friends and family. Though these traits of hers can often clash.

Misguided and Arrogant
Despite being honest and loyal, Lig lacks understanding and proper direction, which means she sometimes, or always, makes the wrong decisions, which led her on a path of to try and understand herself after living a world of lies her whole life. Lig’s misguidedness is rooted in her belief of her exaggerated sense of self-importance, abilities and her knowledge, so she may act arrogant, in a sense, which brought on her misguidedness.

Apathetic and Insecure
Another one of the worst traits about her, Lig lacks any interest, emotion, or enthusiasm due to her limited amount of social interaction in her life, and it’s why it makes it difficult for her to be honest, and she also lacks to feel how others feel, which causes her to make decisions without knowing how others would feel about it. Lig is also very dependent on others, and is very fearful of abandonment, she can also doubt her self-worth, which doesn’t mix well with her arrogance and she always seeks validation externally, and if she doesn’t get it, it causes her to get back into a low self-esteem.

History: Lig was raised in a cramped beach house on the coast of Dogfalls, with her mother (her mother’s name is Leer Muskiet) and two brothers (their names are Veer Blou and Arig Blaps). All the names of her family have a meaning, like her own, which means “Red Light”, her mother’s name means “Leather Mosquito”, her brothers’ names mean “Blue Feather” and “Uncomfortable Mistake”, Lig never knew her father (he was a king from a faraway land, named Gomtor Skoonheid, his name means “Uncivilised Beauty”). Lig was raised on lies made by her mother over why her father was gone, such as “he went to get bread in Mistmoor” or “he’s sailing over here on a very choppy sea”, in which he never came and Lig started to never ask her mother again.

Imitate/Copy Appearance - Lig can mimic others voices and appearances with the flick of her wrist, she will have to learn how the other person talks before mimicking their voice fully and she will have to put on the other persons’ clothes to fully transform into them.
Alter Mind - Lig can alter other people's minds, including her own, but she decides not to do this on herself since she’s “fine the way I am”, she can alter the way the person thinks, their self-image or perception of themselves, and even their senses/cognitive functions such as sight, taste, hearing, and as such. But she really can’t be trusted with sight and hearing, due to blinding and deafening her brother Arig completely, when she was using her “Alter Mind” as training for self-defense. Yet strong-willed people can't be touched by this spell.
Midnight - One of Lig’s minor spells, she can focus on a certain place in her area, and get it into a darkened state, almost like the night sky.

Desolation - This is the katana Lig was awarded back at home for her amazing combat ability, when she fought in a battle that took place in her land. The katana is enchanted to detect when someone is charging after her with a weapon, and it has a poison tip, so that it can poison those who she stabs, to make their injuries worse and make them suffer a slow, painful death.
The Jawbreaker - This is a head-crusher Lig was also awarded along with Desolation, which was specially given and customized by her never-present stepfather Haak Byt (his name means “Hook Bite”).

Can we change where you put 'The Red Light' to that? If they're a Grim, can you explain how they became one in your history?

We also need a way for people to work through your "Alter Mind" ability. It would be powerplaying and godmodding if it worked on everyone, no matter what.

Also, we can't have your character change day into night. Only the gods can have that power. You can cast- maybe like a bubble in your area that converts the area within into a darkened state. But we can't have you changing the time like that. That's just too powerful.

okay, i'll just change that she can turn a certain bubble in her area into night, and her "Alter Mind" ability doesn't work on everyone, it'll only work on a certain target of her anger

and yes, she is a Light Bearer, i forgot to put that in there ;-;

No I mean, you need to make a way for those that she targets to be able to get out of the spell. Perhaps something along the lines of, those with strong wills can't be touched by her powers. That way she could control NPC Grims but she won't be able to use the ability on the big baddie.

and maybe since her "Alter Mind" ability deafened and blinded her brother, maybe he was an NPS Grim or something along those lines? bc she did that on accident while training.

The abilities needs to be balances with a corresponding weakness. Being able to alter someone's mind at the drop of a hat with no backlash is very OP(overpowered).

Not anyone will allow a random person to invade their mind. You have to have a reasonable excuse or way to be able to alter their mind. What criteria does your character have to make? What drawbacks are there from altering someone's mind? In what ways does your character plan to use this ability?

Maybe this will help a little? You can refer to my CS if you need pointers!
