The Black Veil

A Gothic Horror RP set in Post-War Berlin, 1947

Welcome to The Black Veil

Berlin, 1947. The war is over, but the city is far from healed.

The bombs fell, and now the streets are a jagged maze of ruins. Half the city’s gone to shit, shattered beyond recognition. The survivors are walking ghosts, haunted by their pasts, their choices, and the weight of everything they’ve lost. The air smells like ash and regret, and the ruins speak in whispers of things that should have died with the war—but didn’t.

The Allies occupy the city, each power staking their claim—Soviets in the East, Americans, British, and French in the West. But Berlin is more than a battlefield of flags and borders. It’s a city caught between worlds, a city that isn’t sure if it wants to heal or die. The people here aren’t just survivors of the war; they’re survivors of something far darker, something that never left when the bombs stopped falling.

Something ancient stirs beneath the rubble.

The Setting:

Post-war Berlin is a city of broken monuments and haunted souls. Before the war, it was one of Europe’s cultural capitals—a place of art, politics, and intellectual debate. Now it’s a city trying to put itself back together, but it can’t. The ghosts of the past are everywhere. Ruined cathedrals, abandoned theaters, dark alleys that no one dares walk down. Berlin isn’t just physically divided by the occupying powers—it’s divided in every way. The people are fractured, too. Some are rebuilding, some are fleeing, and some are just trying to survive.

The streets are filled with stories: whispers of strange occurrences in the night, of voices that call from the ruins, of something moving beneath the earth. Some say it’s just the scars of war—psychological, haunting memories playing tricks on the mind. Others aren’t so sure.

There’s a sense in the air—a chill, a heaviness. Something isn’t right in Berlin. The city feels like it’s holding its breath, waiting for something to happen. The war may have ended, but something else is just beginning.

The Tone:

This isn’t going to be your typical fast-paced action-packed adventure. No, this is a slow burn—a psychological, atmospheric kind of horror. eerie streets, fog that hides more than just your steps, and long, quiet nights where every creak and groan of the building feels like a threat. The focus here is on mood, character, and mystery.

Expect to be unsettled. Things won’t always make sense. The world is fractured, your character is fractured, and the people around you are… well, who knows what they’re hiding. The supernatural elements are subtle—whispers in the night, shadows that don’t quite match their source. You’re not going to be fighting monsters left and right. The horror in The Black Veil isn’t just about what’s lurking in the dark. it’s about what’s lurking in you. The decisions you make, the things you’ve done, and the memories that keep chasing you down.

What This Isn’t:

A Zombie Apocalypse or Monster-Hunting Story: Sure, there’s something weird in the city, but it’s not about monsters jumping out at you every five minutes. The horror here is slow, creeping, and psychological.

Action Heavy: This isn’t about combat. Sure, there will be tense moments, but it’s more about unraveling the mystery and dealing with the ghosts of the past than fighting for your life.

A History Simulation: While the setting is historical, we won’t be obsessing over every tiny detail. We’re creating a mood, not writing a history paper. The characters and the atmosphere are what matter most.

The Mystery:

At the heart of The Black Veil is something ancient, something forgotten by history, something that has been slumbering under Berlin’s broken streets. It’s not just the scars of war or the shadow of the past—it’s something more. Maybe it’s something buried by the city’s leaders, or something the Allies don’t want anyone to know. Whatever it is, it’s waking up. And it’s dangerous.

It’s tied to the very foundation of Berlin itself—the city’s history, its old secrets, the things people have long tried to bury. What is it? Where did it come from? And, more importantly, what does it want?

The more your characters explore, the deeper they’ll get pulled into the mystery. But be warned—the truth doesn’t come cheap in Berlin. In fact, the price might just be your soul.

Rules:

Slow burn storytelling. No rushing ahead. Let the story unfold.
No god-modding. This is a character-driven RP. Focus on interactions and development, not overpowering abilities.
Respect the atmosphere. Keep the mood grounded in the setting.
Respect others. It’s a collaborative world, and we’re all here to make a great story together.

That sounded cringe.

Will try to make a CS in a few hours. This sounds interesting and I'm a sucker for a slow burn.

It was definitely the dying light soundtrack that sold me.

Meh, I don't care for Discord but I do have an account just in case. One of my RPs uses the PMs as a group chat and it's worked just fine.
