I haven't had any reason for reporting anyone, but it had occurred to me as I was replying to a post the page seemed kind of bare. That's when I noticed if I wanted to report a thread or even a post for whatever reason, there's no button for that. Call me a fatalist, but there's bound to be a few posts come up that mods won't catch and if no one can report it inappropriate posts from same users can continue if not given proper warning. Just a thought, anyone have any different or similar opinion on the matter?

There are no moderators yet, let alone a report button. Fortunately everyone on the Guild has behaved so far and most people are just glad to have a place to roleplay again. I'm sure the report button will be reintroduced at some point but for now there are other priorities.

I'd like to create a robust mod workflow this time around.

I really hate watching a voluntary chore squander the time of some of the most productive/engaged members of the community.

This is mostly a note to myself, but here are some random thoughts from someone jaded by seven years of vBulletin:

- To prevent spammers, newly registered users will be assigned the rank of "Junior". Juniors can't do anything until they've made a topic in "Introduce Yourself". They don't need to write an Elliquiy-level biography. Just a quick paragraph of coherent sentences so that someone can confirm that they are probably real and promote them into a "Member". This rate-limits human spammers.

- This time I want to empower members to do basic things like re-title and move their topic. GMs should be able to "hide" user content, and hidden content is still visible to its creator (i.e. GMs shouldn't be able to destroy content). -- This is actually how even my delete button works except I haven't yet programmed the creator-can-still-see-it function. "Can you move my topic?" is such a waste of time for both the member and the moderator slave.

- Everything should pipe through the report system, and acting upon reports should be as effortless as possible. In fact, the member that reports a PM/user/post/topic should be able to actually act on it themselves. Like, the report should show up as "KittyGiggle wants to [Nuke] this user" with the attached message "Obvious spambot". A moderator reads it and just clicks "Confirm [Nuke]".

- The mod kit should empower people to help the community, not shackle them into a customer service position and drape them in awkward political anguish where they suddenly have to openly moderate their own friends. It just feels lame when last week you were trolling a topic with your buddies and now you have to get "Um okay guys stop it it's not right" like a prat. Ideally when someone submits a report, it becomes a rendezvous channel between the reporter and the moderators. Except it'd be better if the user only sees "Moderator 1" and "Moderator 2" rather than real usernames.

- Roleplays should be self-contained ecosystems if they want to be. Within them, they should have their own little serfdoms where little knights can stick their own topics and create their own tabs and moderate their own serfs. I haven't even begun to ponder how that would actually work particularly from a UI angle, but it's what I mean when I say that users should be able to manage their own going-ons.

I have the unique opportunity to actually see these things through. I also want to polish the software with this kind of kit for when I create my goblin smut forum.

It would be really great if we could move/delete/re-title our RPs/Threads. And then be able to edit or moderate lightly on the RPs we GM. It would lessen the strain on everyone and give GMs more power and control (in a non-dictator sort of way) in their RPs, as well as cutting back on spam in OOC or making sure the CS tab only has character sheets, etc. I also like the idea of customizable tabs and see it doing wonders for many people. This has got me excited. :3

Oh yes! Every fucking forum software should have this feature. Report needs a "Suggestioned action" dropdown in addition to the text box, where sensible people can just say "Ban" or "Move to [properly populated forum name]" and so forth, making it simple for a moderator to click a button and move on. Being an admin on other forums in the past, it's amazing how quickly the browser tabs increase when doing a simple moderation task.

This makes me smile. It's something similar to how I had tried to set up the one RP I lead in oldGuild utilizing the vBulletin Groups feature to have more 'private' (maybe secluded is a better word?) topics that wouldn't spam the regular forums.

I'm in support of anything and everything here. Bravo for this ambition, I only hope to see it become reality someday.

If you go for moderator 1, moderator 2... make sure the number is assigned in order of when they get involved in a case (at least from the user's perspective). We've been on a forum where moderators were suddenly forced to make "mod accounts" to be "invisible" but the cover wasn't even functional. Everyone recognized the different mods after just a couple of posts. Its not invisible without some real cover.

Besides, having names visible might help weed out potential bad mods.

The rest of the ideas are plain lovely.

While I understand site is under major reconstruction just thought this was thread worthy to bring up.

I agree with this completely, usually I find people are good enough to police their own roleplays. But for discussions, and off-topic posts where people aren't so personal we'll eventually need a place to report users. Especially after the incident with the predator that was PMing girls for Skype information. But that's a whole 'nother ball game.
