I just pegged a sock to a clothesline and watched a perfectly good peg spontaneously snap in half, beaten by the rebellious footwear.

I'm going to immortalise this little badass as a sock puppet. :3

One time I put my socks on the clothesline but when I came back for them they are gone. A week later my cat is carrying one in its mouth...

Isn't that a little like decorating and parading it's corpse, if you take away it's function? I believe the traditional human way of respecting socks is to attempt to impregnate them.
