Appearance 5'8 tall Kazakh-Russian guy with mixed features, a lean build, and what I can only describe as a sort of modern nomad haircut (he used to have long and shaggy hair but got this style after he got into a relationship). It's not shown in the image, but he has a subtle tan from working out in the sun so often. Usually doesn't care how he dresses, except when his beau is involved. So that's usually mostly loose clothing, tattered pants, boots..
PersonalityA quiet, introverted survivalist who prefers to let his actions speak louder than his words. He is very earnest and transparent, possessing a grounded honesty and a fierce, unshakeable loyalty that centers completely around Zhaika, whom he views as his vital counterpart. Having served as a reliable coordinator and fixer for his remote village, he holds a quiet, protective compassion for people in general and takes his responsibilities incredibly seriously. This protective nature is deeply intertwined with his Tengrist worldview (inherited from his mother), which guides his morals; he lives by a code of profound reverence and balance with the natural world, viewing the earth and sky as living, sacred entities governed by Tengri and Umay that demand humility, respect, and careful stewardship.
Skills- Terrain Navigation & Tracking - Expert at reading landscapes, weather patterns, and animal trails.
- Equestrian & Herding - Very good at horse and camel riding. Skilled in lassoing and managing wild animals. (Maybe he can even wrangle a small-ish dinosaur or other prehistoric mammal >:D)
- Rough Mechanics & Maintenance - Able to repair trucks, gear, and tools under primitive conditions.
- Resource Management - Highly organized with supplies, food rations, and route planning.
- Trilingual (EN,RU,KK) & Culturally Adaptable - Educated, articulate, and able to talk his way out of tough situations.
Given that he lived near the Aral Sea, he is pretty adaptable to environmental conditions. He's dealt a lot with dust storms from the nearby "sea", and so his lungs and eyes are a bit stronger than normal. There are crazy blizzards and very hot summers back home, so he's used to temperature extremes (Will be useful for maybe dealing with lowland humidity and Andes level temperatures). His stomach is pretty tough, and he likely won't fall ill from drinking unfiltered water. After all, the groundwater conditions in his hometown are very salty and stuff. He is also a farm boy, and so he's built up a body that's used to farming, dealing with livestock, and driving heavy vehicles across vast, difficult terrains. And.. Lastly, his vision is pretty sharp, because.. You know.. Almost a lifetime of living out in the steppes where he has to constantly deal with the sun?
Personal Belongings/Equipment- A traditional Kazakh short, braided leather horse whip.
- Smartphone and a lightweight roll-up solar panel strapped to his backpack. (Dunno if there's sun where we're going though)
- Leatherman multitool.
- A silver ring worn on the finger. This is tied to his beliefs and his partner.
- Heavy-duty pump filter and water purification tablets. Coming from the Aral region, he is paranoid about water quality and isn't going to take chances with unknown jungle bacteria.
- A small leather pouch containing elements from home > coarse salt, dried Kazakh soil, and small silver coins.
- Traditional hunting knife from his father. Designed for skinning game, splitting kindling, or self-defense.
- Flint and Steel + Stormproof Matches in a completely waterproof case. Sure, lighters exist. But he's learned from his father that going into the wilderness without a good backup for fire is a very bad idea.
- And some kurt from his mum. These are Kazakh dried, salted cheese balls.
If possible, he may bring or procure a Mosin-Nagant or a Russian break-action shotgun (because why not)
Missing Loved OneBackgroundTaras is from South-Central Kazakhstan, specifically a small village near Kyzylorda. He grew up educated thanks to his parents' efforts--his father being a retired Russian officer from the nearby Baikonur Cosmodrome and his mother a local Kazakh. Taras even briefly studied in Russia for a time before returning to help care for his ailing father. He partially took over the family business, growing and selling melons alongside milk harvested from their horses and camels. Taras learned to manage the business logistics himself; he even maintained and operated his father's AT-T artillery tractor (converted for civilian use) before the family could afford to buy a standard commercial truck.
Life remained fairly mundane until a rather ragged-looking crew of outsiders from the city arrived in town. Taras heard rumors about them but paid little attention--until he saw the woman who would later become the love of his life, Zhaika. Holding a degree in geology and paleontology, she was actively pursuing a PhD in archaeology. She had come to town with a team of fellow scientists to excavate a fossil dig site near his village. Taras was immediately smitten but too afraid to approach her at first, a detail his father quickly noticed.
Shortly after, Taras's father informed him that the research group needed a local guide to navigate the wilderness, and that Taras had been volunteered for the job. Though initially annoyed by the forced task, Taras was secretly thrilled for obvious reasons. With his father's health improving, Taras was given the keys to the AT-T, and the expedition set off. For half a year, he and a few other villagers aided the researchers at the site. During this time, a strong bond formed between Taras and Zhaika. Even after the dig concluded and the fossils were transported back to the city in the back of the AT-T, the pair kept in constant contact and eventually made their relationship official.
Taras mostly stayed behind in his village, but his visits to the city grew more frequent over time. Leaving his home was a difficult prospect, though he frequently considered moving to the city permanently to be closer to her.
About a year into their relationship, Zhaika called Taras, speaking excitedly about a new opportunity. Someone named Coswell, who had funded her past work, had invited her on a secretive expedition. She did not reveal many details, and Taras assumed it would be a standard field assignment. Soon after her departure, though, he lost contact entirely. Every attempt by their families to track her down yielded absolutely nothing. Taras had almost lost all hope until Zhaika's family received an unexpected message from a man named Lucas Byrne, claiming he might know her exact whereabouts. Taras immediately jumped at the chance to track her down, backed by the full emotional and financial support of both families.
