This wasn’t Billie’s first time on the supply runs for the group, but that didn’t make the horrors easier with time. Those zombies used to be people. Do they still classify as a person? The distinction between living and dead remained unclear. Dead things don’t continue shambling around and consume food. How did digestion work with them? Do their stomachs still work? They must be swallowing the meat still. Billie maintained a few journals: a personal diary, workbook, and her casualty list. People quickly took to calling them zombies, which is understandable, but silly. It sounded comical. Childish. Immature. Instead, in her beat up, crinkled journal, Billie took to calling them casualties. Despite it all, they are victims too, right?

Her private journal detailed things she could consider normal, for whatever that is now worth. Mainly it was used to vent about the people on the island without word traveling or June overhearing. The workbook contained plans for water collection, lab equipment, and other plans to help them survive on the island. The casualty list contained all her speculation regarding casualties. It was less of a “scientific journal” and more so a way to keep her panic attacks compartmentalized in a separate location.

During the trek, Billie would occasionally pull out her digital camera running on 53% to take pictures of anything out of the ordinary, casualties, or places of interest. If only she had access to a printer, these would be handy in her journal. Unless she wanted to sketch them out. There were more pictures she would have taken during the walk, but with June coming along, Billie didn’t trust leaving her unsupervised for longer than a minute. Once the team reached the lighthouse, she took one last picture before pocketing her camera. ”June, you are sticking with me, understood?” It was less of a request and more of a demand.

Now what to do? She could trust AJ with the other children, right? Every day, Diane orbited around AJ to ensure no danger could come to her: staying inside after curfew, keeping her away from strange survivors, and if those freaks got any close to AJ, Diane could do something. What could she do now though? The only thing that came to her mind to be productive that didn’t put her in harm’s way was to clean. Yes, that is it. Time to clean. Even though they were on the other side of the world, halfway across the world from home, she could still try to find a way to make living here as comfortable for them.

Clean linens were becoming a scarce resource along with any cleaning supplies. ”I’ll just have to make do.” Diane brought out the linen from their cabin to hang outside. It unlikely did anything to clean it, but it offered the placebo of airing out the stuffy sheets. With a bucket of water collected from the ocean, she began wiping down the surfaces inside her cabin. Afterwards, she began sweeping the floor for any bits and crumbs that found their way inside.

ON TO THE SCAVENGING RUN! Sure, June had gone outside the safe zone a couple times. Kind of. She had entered the nearby areas without entering any of the buildings to pick up random things, or to see how feasible entering the nearby buildings may be. But otherwise? She hadn't really left the safe zone since they arrived there. She had been rationing her medications, she had tasks that kept her mind mostly in check, and she was safe. Well, safe enough. So she stayed as close to Billie as she could as they moved down the street, the 20 gauge shotgun gripped firmly in both hands. It was probably her least favorite gun that she had ever fired, lacking a stock and having a comically short barrel. But, it was easy to carry around. Maybe a handgun would have been better, but for a few reasons, June did not qualify for a pistol permit in her home state. A short barrel shotgun? Or a legally distinct "Other Weapon"? That she did qualify for. But even then, before all of this she had only used the gun a couple times at a shooting range, and never shot at another person with it. She had only gotten it when she had pissed off some high level corporate executives when she pointed out to the defense department just how pitiful and proprietary their digital security systems were. One case of attempted assault later, she had earned her paycheck, a lawsuit, and had purchased the gun she wasn't a huge fan of just in case something like that ever happened again. Sure, they tried legal battles before that, but as she was under contract she set herself up to be protected. So attempted assault it was. Fear tactics. Intimidation. All the fun stuff.

Then when the hotel they were in got overrun, she pulled the gun taking off the foot of one of the infected. And shattering the guts of another at close range. The foot she learned was far more effective. She had lost Sam while escaping, or scared her off. And had picked up Billie along the way. With the stress of that day, she wasn't totally sure if Billie had been with them before Sam got separated. Looking at June now? You couldn't tell she was stressed out of her mind ready to book it at the first sign of trouble. On her face, was an excited grin as she gleefully stepped quickly, and deceptively quiet. At a glance without knowing June in detail, she may look like she was having the time of her life! She almost didn't seem to notice the undead as they weaved around them. Sometimes she would look their direction, but she seemed to either not notice, or only notice enough to treat them as a background set piece. In actuality, she could see their faces out of the corners of her eyes. She noticed every movement. She noticed every change in direction. She noticed each shattered window. She noticed every slash of gore and limb in sight. Safety off. Finger resting against the trigger guard. This nervous e wreck was ready for a fight.

As they approached the lighthouse, June did her best to not sigh. Sure, they may find stocks of common goods there. She wasn't sure in what quantity though. But it was probably easier and safer than anywhere else nearby. But they likely would not find any of the specialized things she needed. Electronic parts, small motors, ADHD medication, anti-depressants, vitamin supplements, anxiety medications, and much more. But, food and water was nice too. She did wonder though if the lighthouse had a generator, and if it was at all portable. Having reliable electricity would be a boon to her work rather than what she could muster through phone batteries and makeshift motion devices that only produced enough juice to break what they were hooked up too while they were plugged in.

When Billie spoke up, she didn't register the words the woman had spoken at first. She found herself distracted on one of the undead tripping over a curb in the distance. Then the shape of the waves as they hit the stone works on the shore. June had to process a moment, but she figured Billie said something along the lines of don't get distracted, pay attention, stay close, or behave herself. "Sounds good, can do." June said with a very reassuring smile. The paying attention was probably going to be easier said than done. Her ADHD meds had run out day before yesterday. Though normally she could skip a few days and be fine, she had only packed enough for a couple weeks and had been forced to ration it. So she had been on a rather low dose for a while. Staying on task was hard. Keeping a train of though consistent was hard without constant stimulation. Surprisingly, the depression meds ran out weeks ago and she didn't feel any more depressed all things considering. So taking the wins where they come. "Do you think that there is some coffee or energy drinks in there?" June asked quietly as they approached.

There was some fiddling with the sidearm as Sienna tucked it within her waistband. The grip was just right of her belly button, facing in. Given she was left-handed, that would make for the most efficient quickdraw.

But only as a last resort, Sienna reiterated to herself, in full agreement with the notion. Goodness knew those monster were attracted to the slightest bit of noise.

Sienna watched the others momentarily, then approached Maria; her having walked up to the woman a silent agreement in partnering up.

The lighthouse was off in the distance. She quickly glanced at it, then at its surroundings and everything from such distance to the group’s current location. In all practicality, it was quite possible to make it there and back unscathed. Unfortunately, the opposite was quite true as well.

“So what are you hoping to find?” she asked Maria, an attempt to distract herself and break the silence between them two.

"The adults have cleared the area around the camp outside of the walls near and around the arcade it was clear when I entered it last night." Jason said to AJ seeing her questioning about the safety of the arcade. "Besides, being cooped up here all day isn't all that fun honestly kinda gets boring after awhile doing the same thing." He suggested as he looked towards the other kids, some of them seemed to be a little bit weary as well to, however the older kids were interested on going. "I don't think thats a really good idea either." Bryan said sticking close to AJ as well to.

Jason looked towards the two of them and shrugged slightly, he wasn't going to force them to go if they didn't want to. "Suit yourselves then, soccer is kinda getting boring to anyway." He said as he looked at the others the older kids nodded in agreement. "If anyone wants to go now, lets go." Jason suggested as he dropped the soccer ball down onto the sand most of the older kids started to follow Jason, while the younger ones hesitated some stayed while others went to join them.

Kaitlyn watched the kids for a moment, she was out of earshot of their conversation as she turned to look at Diane and approached her once more seeing that she was doing a little bit of cleaning. "Need some help?" Kaitlyn asked as she stood by looking at the older woman and smiled slightly looking over at AJ. "How are you and AJ holding up by the way?" She asked making some small conversation with the older woman trying to get to know her better.

Maria looked over at Sienna as she approached her and gave her a smile and nodded, happy to partner up with someone at least. "Hopefully the thing works we can maybe use the light in someway to get help." Maria said. "What about you?" She asked her, Jeb watched as the group started to all partner up before giving out tasks. "June and Billie, go to the top of the lighthouse and check to see if the light is still intact, if it is and the power still works we should be able to use it." Jeb said as he turned to look at Maria and Sienna who both partnered up by the looks of it.

Maria and Sienna theres a basement down there that should have the power box, see what it runs on, if it runs on gas we could use some of the fuel we have to power this place." Jeb suggested as he looked at the others. "The rest of you search the rest of the place, any food, supplies or even basic tools will work." Jeb said as the rest of the group nodded and went about their tasks.

"I guess thats our task." Maria said looking towards Sienna as she moved around the outside of the building, until she could see the basement and went to try the door, as she tried to check the door it was locked, she tried to push the door open with her shoulder but there wasn't much that she could do. Then she spotted a crowbar nearby and reached for it, and jammed it into the door, using all of her strength before opening the door breaking the lock. "After you milady." Maria said to Sienna giving her a slight smile as she reached for her flashlight and turned it on shining it through the dark room.

Jason had a point. AJ was used to freedom, or rather as much as her parents allowed her to be. She was frequently out of the house at games or even with friends provided she made it back by curfew. But that was a different time. A time when the dead weren't walking around. A time when people weren't being torn apart and devoured by those same monsters. Even if Jason swore that the arcade had been cleared by the adults, it wasn't a Sunday stroll down to the park. AJ, and it seemed some of the other kids, easily recognized that. The second they walked beyond those walls, they would be risking their lives just to go play some video games.

AJ glanced at Bryan, and then to the other kids. The hope of a soccer game dissipated before her eyes as they split into their own factions, with one deciding to stay while the other left for the arcade.

"Should," AJ began once the others were out of ear shot, "we say something?"

There was a split second of hesitance. She wanted to do the right thing; to let the adults know that some of them were planning to do something very stupid. Maybe AJ was overthinking. Maybe the arcade was truly cleared out, and they were just being overly cautious. Ratting out the other kids would easily turn them against her and the others that chose to stay behind. But what if Jason was wrong? What if they didn't come back? What if they got hurt? Or, what if the monsters beyond the walls ripped them apart? The thought of people dying because she chose not to say anything hung greatly on her conscience.

"I don't want them to get hurt because of us."

June Fowler

Location: Outside Lighthouse --> Light of the house

June was ready to put her expertise to use. She could cross wires, she could write and edit code, she could poke machines and sometimes even make them work! So being assigned to a task she was not only proficient in, but something she enjoyed doing? Was a huge win! Sure, it was a lighthouse and not a Microwave communication network. Nor home made Morse code through the power lines. Nor lazer pointers. BUT! It was a machine that used electricity! June would have fun with it. She had to admit though, despite having a surface level knowledge about countless things, to her surprise, lighthouses were in fact not on that list. It felt weird for June to not have a mental book full of fun facts readily available to draw up about their current situation. "I mean, even if the light itself is not intact, depending on what sort of light it used we could probably recreate something to get it to flash. Wouldn't be pretty, and it would probably ruin whatever we used to make it work. But it really only needs to work once or twice?" June offered up unprompted. When Jeb had offered to the rest to look through the rest of the lighthouse June felt the need to bring up her own needs. "I could still use a 3D printer and some filament and or resin if we find one." She offered up. Sure, she didn't expect the odds to be great, but what if everyone else had already forgotten her needs?! What if she was being ignored because people found her annoying?! No, she had to make sure she was heard.

Climbing up the tower, she waited for Billie to catch up. She did in fact remember to not get too far from the other woman. Looking up at the spiral stairs that led the frame of the lighthouse, June realized she did in fact have a collection of fun facts! "Did you know the spiral stairs inside of medieval castle towers were nearly always built clockwise so defenders trying to prevent attackers from going upwards would have the advantage? In general most people are right handed, and during those times being left handed was seen as rather unacceptable. So with a clockwise rotation of stairs it meant it was far easier for defenders to swing and attack anyone trying to go up the stairs than for someone who had to work around a central pillar trying to go up a tower. Though in some rare cases where a family was predominantly left handed they would have their towers built the other way for the same reason to give themselves an advantage." June said feeling rather proud of herself for actually having something relevant to say as she made her way up the stairs. "Though in this case we have guns instead of swords. Though... I guess for a few years they had guns too huh? In fact many early firearms were so expensive the first pistols used in Europe were not only for self protection, but so that a lord could quickly indicate that he needed help and was being attacked without hindering his ability to defend himself due to the loud noise the pistols would make/" June said holding her gun in both hands, aiming it carefully as she climbed the stairs. She was having a bit of difficulty staying focused on the task, likely due to rationing her prescriptions, but she had enough focus to keep the gun up, and ready to react. But... she was warned on that. Don't use it unless she had too. She lacked other weapons though... But she did have a multi tool. Maybe if she was attacked she could push the attacker over the rails?

The view from the top of the tower was a rather nice one. Sure, her room in the hotel had a spectacular view. But this one, felt much less clustered. Less busy. It was easy to pretend they weren't fighting for survival while up here. Turning slightly to her left, she saw the body. "Oh... Hi there." She said, her brain still catching up to what she was seeing. Then instinctively she raised the shotgun towards the dead man's head and held the post for a moment as she waited for a reaction. With the gun in his own hands, and the hole in his head, she assumed it was pretty safe he was going to stay dead. Generally a head shot would do the job. Just in case, she took the barrel of the shotgun in her hands and poked the head, finger close to the trigger waiting to react just in case. But... there was nothing. She felt like... she should be reacting more to this. For one reason or another, this guy had decided enough was enough. He was secure, armed, maybe he had run out of food? Maybe he was sick? June felt like she should pity him. Maybe she should mourn for this man she had never known? Maybe she should be up set in any form? But a part of her brain just couldn't process those feelings in this moment. She knew the body upset her. But it felt like she didn't know how she should react to seeing the dead man. She shrugged. She figured she would figure it out later, and all these emotions would hit her all at once when she felt she understood how to process what she was feeling. So instead, she ran on her default and began getting to work. "Hey Billie look another gun!" June said with glee as she took the pistol from the dead man, sliding her shotgun into her shoulder bag. Then checking it again to make sure she turned on the safety. She had to admit, she was rather unfamiliar with handguns compared to long guns. Functionally, they held a lot in common. In practice? Less so. But she figured out the safety, the release for the clip, and saw that it was still mostly loaded. SO! A win for June!

But that, wasn't even the big find. "Holy shit is that a radio?!" Thank fuck. Not only was that form of electronics a bit off to the side of her expertise, she had never built one from scratch before. meaning the only thing she could likely do was make a device that could scream on random frequencies and maybe they could attempt to make Morse Code with it. But with a proper radio?! Even if an older one?! It was a spectacular find. "Billie, if the full kit is here the only thing we need to get it to work is juice. Hell, we could set this up back at the gym as long as we had something that could be used as an attenuate. And since we are only working at a line of sight or comparable distance, it wouldn't even need to be a big one!" If the full kit was here, it saved June a ton of steps. Sure, she would need to go over some old instructions to get familiar with the equipment, spend some time getting comfortable. But machines were machines. They had a logic to them. Sure, not everyone could see the logic, but they always had one. They had a reason for everything they did. And once that was figured out, it became so much easier to work with them. Going through the desk June attempted to see what else she could find in regards to equipment, and instead found for herself, a box of bullets. "Oh Billie!" June sang as she held up the box. "I think we are winning the apocalypse!" She said with the biggest grin on her face. Looking back at the light itself, the thing they actually came up here for. "Oh right, the light! Jeb should be pleased to hear that the light here looks intact too! Oh but don't touch it. If they react anything like movie theater projectors, the slightest touch of human skin oil can cause it to shatter and explode when they turn on. Not fun for anyone." She found herself so focused on the task at hand involving the light, the reason for the light didn't cross her mind at all. To reach the outside world. Something the radio could probably do leagues better. BUT! They had a giant light bulb!

A slightly exaggerated curtsy was offered in response along with a smile. Sienna also went ahead and pulled out her flashlight, shining it over the room to get a basic visual of it. As she was scanning her surroundings, Sienna noticed a small, flashing red light off in the corner to her right. She shone the light over it and began walking in that direction. As she was getting closer, she began to hear the low hum.

"Hey, I found—what the fuck!"

Something grazed her calf, causing Sienna to jump in a startled state before shaking her leg in an attempt to brush off whatever had touched her. She angled the light to her leg and then to the floor around her and noticed a cockroach scrambling away. What followed was a breath of relief and a slightly nervous chuckle. "Talk about a heart attack, huh?" Sienna added, walking forward.

Once she was by the power box, she knelt down in front of it and began inspecting it. The humming was louder now. Sienna followed a line to a red container sitting against the wall. "Okay, we found our fuel."

One of the most versatile tools scavenging the island became the humble rock or bottle. One loud thunk could briefly gain the attention of the casualties; however, besides a few strays meandering along the coast, the waves did not garner enough of the casualties’ attention for too long. Could it be similar to white noise for prolonged proximity? Then again, how many times did Billie stop to chase after the sound of wind? Unless out of the ordinary, some sounds might not register as prey. These were the thoughts that kept Billie awake all through the night; however, in a way, Billie found it comforting as she gazed across the ocean. Some beauty remained relatively untainted in the world.

She turned towards June with a tiny glimmer of hope in her sunken eyes hearing the words coffee and energy drinks. Insomnia mixed with dehydration, coupled with being on constant alert, took a toll on Billie’s face. Heavy bags sagged under her eyes and each week she appeared more gaunt than the last. ”You know, I would really like that. Let’s hope they didn’t store it next to the fish,” she said with a weak smile.

As the team entered the lighthouse. Billie approached each step with caution: checking around each corner, looking underneath any furniture, any sign of outside movement. As June mentioned needing the light to only work once or twice, Billie’s mind drifted setting a building on fire at night to gain the attention of ships across the water. Wouldn’t be useful, but something in Billie wanted to light a giant goddamn fire on this island. ”You got it, Jeb.” Billie followed June upstairs, but unlike her friend, she took her sweet time to not further exhaust herself. As her delightfully chipper friend rambled upon medieval architecture against invaders and the evolution from swords to guns, she considered how the old rules of warfare don’t translate well into modern times. ”Yet nowadays we are told to run away from gunfire. Oh how times change.”

Once the two reached the top, Billie institutionally aimed her pistol at the body laying on the ground. June’s nonchalant approach up the stairs would have alerted the living or what counts as living now. Given how the body remained stationary, could this simply be a corpse? After a shoddy investigation, the two could safely assume the corpse was safe. What a strange world to be in to feel safe next to a corpse. Thankfully, this man did them a favor by pulling the trigger to his own head. Saved them a bullet. With the corpse's pistol still intact, she lowered her aim from the body. ”Nice find!”

Don’t think about the corpse. Don’t think about the corpse. Don’t think about the corpse.

”We might finally be catching a break! Handgun, bullets, a radio, and maybe a functioning lighthouse if we get the power working. All it needs is power right to shine the light? These lenses should do most of the work for us to shining that light out.” If they can get either one of these things working, it would be a good time for a little celebration.

With rolled up sleeves, Diane scrubbed the table for any dust and grime as Kaitlyn engaged in small talk. ”Oh you don’t have to help. It’s just a way to get my body busy.” More so she didn’t want to appear more weak and helpless than she already was. She wanted to find a way to be useful in some capacity without crossing the fence. Honestly, I am happy there are some other kids here for AJ. If she were alone for all this. I don’t know who she could rely on. Paul is gone. Having kids her age might help her relax and escape all of this, just for a moment. Some ways I’m jealous. Comes with the territory of being a mom. You can’t stop worrying.” In some ways, this was relaxing. Cleaning the cabin allowed Diane to feel like she was offering some sort of safe environment for AJ. ”How about you? How do you manage?”

Bryan thought for a moment as he watched the other kids started to wander off towards where they could easily sneak out of the camp as he rubbed his arm slightly. Then he looked back towards where some of the other adults were talking amongst themselves and going on about their day, trying to be useful. "I-I don't know, maybe we can go and check it out and make sure things are okay?" He said sounding nervous and unsure, he didn't want to become a social outcast by the other kids for tattling either. "What do you think we should do?" He asked looking at AJ.

Kaitlyn leaned back slightly as she looked out at the beach and watched as the waves crashed over the shore, running a hand through her hair as she listened to Diane as she asked how she was coping. She was a little bit envious of the kids, they didn't seem to really have a care in the world at the moment on what was going on all around them. "I'm not sure honestly, I just play it by ear, and try to keep myself busy as much as I can." Kaitlyn answered Diane.

Maria looked at the cockroach for a moment and smiled slightly at least it was a bug instead of a zombie as she looked at Sienna. "Hey at least it wasn't one of those big New York City rat." Maria said jokingly as she noticed the gas cannister in the corner of the room and went over to check to see if it was filled or not. Sadly it was empty, but Maria continued to search around the basement until she was able to find a large metal barrel. "Lets check this out." Maria said as she walked over to inspect the barrel and moved it around slightly, she could hear and felt what sounded like liquid was inside. "This is promising." Maria said looking at Sienna and smiled as she went to open up the metal barrel.

There was indeed quiet a bit of liquid in there and the smell of gas filled the room. "This is perfect." Maria said as she looked over and quickly went to the gas cannister that they had found and started to fill it up completely. She looked around the basement some more before finding a large gas generator. "Jackpot." Maria said as she started to fill it up, seeing that there was a pullcord on it, and started to pull it a few times, when the generator started to come back to life. And the lights within the lighthouse started to turn on at all of the levels, as well as the massive light of the lighthouse to came to life.

"God yeah no I can't stand fish. Too... fishy." June said in reply to the coffee and energy drink stockpile that may or may not exist inside the lighthouse. Thankfully! There were other things to keep her mind on while she was up in the lighthouse tower! The radio! The gun! The dead body! The view! The dead people down the coastlines and on their path back to camp! All the things to think about. And that small voice in the back of her head that was now calling her a dumbass for declining to join AV club in favor of playing roblox back when she was in middle school. Sure, a machine was a machine, but now the learning curve would be longer to figure out how to use it. BUT! IF she got the radio working, maybe she could use the radio to transmit to her homemade drone once she got it working? That should give her leagues more options rather than the limited range of her bluetooth equipment. She knew that the raspberry pi's she had in her bags had wi-fi capabilities, maybe she could use this radio set to talk back and forth with them since wi-fi ran on radio waves too? But could the radio even transmit at the same frequencies? Only one way to find out! OR two if you included reading the instructions.

"I mean do we really? If someone fired off a gunshot in camp I would bet money someone would come running to check it out. Or if I took this here pistol that ser dead lighthouse guy left us and fired it out the window, I am pretty confident everyone below would charge up to see what's up. Then I would probably get yelled at for making a ton of racket, wasting a newly found bullet, and someone would probably use really mean words." June said disapprovingly. "But since I found even more bullets, AND! I can probably get this lighthouse going again. I think I can get off easy without too much punishment. And if someone yells at me I will probably just break down and block it out." She said matter of factly with a shrug before sliding her shotgun under her arm and attempting to find where in her waistband would be the best spot to hold her new found pistol.

Then, the power came back on. At first, June reacted to the buzzing in the wall. Not because it was particularly loud. But because it was... different. Once you get used to specific noises and notice them missing, they stuck out like a sore thumb when they returned. Though people always told June that no one else could really notice the noises unless their heads were pressed against the walls, and even then only at some points. The light flashing on really got to her too, but the light was manageable. Even if she did prefer darker rooms to the bright lights. But that isn't what got to her. What was getting to her was the noises the motor was making as it began to wake up. Louder, and louder. Sharper and sharper. Was it always this loud? Were they all this loud?

June began to be visibly distressed. It felt like the motor was hitting all her nerves in just the wrong places. Pressing both her hands to her ears she hunched over in an attempt to shut out the noise. Pistol still in one hand holding it rather improperly as she desperately tried to block out the loud noise. Being hunched over though looking out the glass, it really just hit her how high up she was. She was... really... high up. "Oh Shit. Oh Fuck." She said sharply as it all began to hit her all at once. The loud motor, the high fall outside the glass, the dead man who died trapped up in the tall tall tower, everyone who was dead outside, everyone who was screaming outside. Was Sam one of these things too? What if this had already escaped? What if the moment they left they were shot? Hung? What if they were already dead?! She couldn't think. All she could hear was the motor getting louder and louder in her head. "Shut up shut up shut up SHUT UP!!!" She eventually screamed as she flailed the gun towards the light one hand still on her head trying to drown out the noise. Squeezing the grip, finger far from the trigger as she was still holding the gun incorrectly. Realizing this with what processing she still had left, she threw the gun across the floor and ran down a light of stairs onto one of the middle landings. "Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck..." She said between breaths. It was the end of the world. They were trapped on this island with no way home. No one was coming to save them and they were trapped. No one was coming and they were trapped. Stopping part way down the stairs she sat covering her ears with both hands taking as deep of breaths as she could muster in an attempt to let herself catch up.

”True, true.” Billie said in response to their gunshot discussion. She turned her attention towards the window thinking about the past couple of nights. They haven’t heard any strange noises occurring outside their fortifications. Are there any other survivors outside of their encampment? Her thoughts came to a crashing halt as the silence was interrupted by mechanical whirring and buzzes. Billie glanced over towards the lighting mechanism brightening up the room before covering her eyes. ”Dammit, that almost took my eyes out! They can warn us a bit beforehand!”

Outside of the team neglecting to warn the two, she managed to let out a sigh of relief. They would need to test the machine during nighttime, but if it was now working, they might be able to communicate with the ships out at bay. If the lighthouse could be spotted across the island, it would alert others too. Maybe things could turn around after all? Billie turned to June to share her relief to see her friend in distress.

“June…June what’s wrong?”. She reached forward to grab her by the shoulder before retracting her arm. Then June began flailing the pistol around towards the light. “June, what is going on with you?”. Billie scowled trying to find the words to get June to calm down and get the gun away from her. Why did she trust this dimwit with a gun anyways? Once her friend threw the pistol across the floor and fled downstairs, Billie rushed to the pistol. She turned on the safety before removing the bullets inside. ”What the fuck is wrong with her? She muttered.

Diane leaned against the wall gazing across their encampment. “I’ve tried keeping track of the days. I know it's been a month, but I can’t remember if today is Monday or a Wednesday.” How much longer do they have to wait? Shouldn’t the navy be doing something for them now? Her hopes for an escape diminished with each passing day. There were only so many times she could clean the same spec of stain off the floor. ”Kaitlyn, do we have some sort of neighborhood watch or council?”
