Feudal Lords

Nations rise and fall but history will always remain. In this world it is 1100, men in armour swing swords as they battle over the farms and workshops that their lords want so much, meanwhile men of the cloth incite rage and anger at those who dare disagree with the church. In the towns and villages people go about their daily lives, fresh food and tools are brought into the market where children play in the streets and on lookers throw fruit at men in the stocks. However it is not the lives in these petty kingdoms that should interest you. You rule a nation. Swathes of people call your lands home, looking to you for guidance in times of trouble and strife as you expand your borders to grow in size, wealth and stature. However you are not alone, other nations surround you vying for control of the same lands that you so desperately want. It is your job to decide who is friend and who is foe, deal with the politics of your own court, the international stage and the court of the church. Will you lead your nation into the history books and eternal glory, or will you be forgotten and swept into the annuls like so many before you.

Okay so to put it basically, this will be an early medieval NRP set about 1100 AD. This has been designed and set up by myself and Innovative Enigma and we will be Co-GMing equally. This will be completely human for simplicity sake however nations may be as different as you can imagine them. There will be a couple of numbers and traits as we feel this is the best way to keep nations equal even if some people find them restricting. Please show your interest below and when there is enough I will throw up the OOC.

This is the map being used.

I also have an idea for an historical NRP, which follows along similar lines. I would like to see where you go with this. I'll follow.

My general idea for a character goes something like this:

He and his people were forced to flee their homeland years ago and settled these 'new lands'. These people are pagans with a warrior-ethos and simply want to raid, pillage, and loot everyone around them (similar to the Vikings). Their leader, however, is more level-headed. He wants his people to remain at peace, build up his forces and economy, and simply try to survive in this new land. He is also trying to convert his pagan people over to the church, but like an old habit their beliefs can be hard to push away. But how long before his practices cause unrest amongst his people?

It appears you have an interest in Viking history and intend to create a nation replete not with one solitary King, but with several small groups, clans or enclaves who may all get along at some times but not all times. That does make for an interesting set up. The Vikings or Northmen cooperated with other clans on many of their raids, but it wasn't always peace and cooperation. I like nations that build in an internal opposition to the majority. It does make for a more interesting story.

I have been thinking about where I want to take my nation. My ancestry is English and French. My mother's family emigrated from Shropshire, England which would have been Mercia in the 10th century, but was then became part of the Kingdom of England in 927. My father's family emigrated to Canada from Normandy in the 17th century. By the 12th Century, the Normans were a mix of Romans, Gauls, Danes, Norwegians, Hiberno-Norse, Orkney Viking, and Anglo-Danish. Maybe something along the lines of the Duchy of Normandy. Although, I may just go with a Feudal Japan theme, the Byzantine empire or something altogether different.
