Leon shook his head. 'No, you needed rest. It's understandable. I didn't think of keeping you awake, either. I should have been a little more vigilant. This could have been a lot worse.' He said, pulling Avery into a hug, feeling like she needed comforting at this point in time.

Avery was fighting not to lose her cool but being nearly trapped by a nightmare wasn't easy to handle. She took a few deep breathes and said "I can't sleep now....my body needs it but it's too risky...."

Alex shook his head. 'No, your body needs rest and that's what it's going to get. You might not be able to fall into a natural sleep, but I could put you in a trance that would allow your body and mind to rest for a while. If anything happens, the trance will break and you'll be able to defend your home.'

Avery looked at him, looking drained and stressed. "But...you'll be left on your own....but if it's the only way....then go for it...I trust you...." She leaned her head on his shoulder, her head pounding from the lack of sleep

Alex looked at her, holding her head in his hands. 'Avery, I need you to look into my eyes.' He told her. 'Stay awake just a little longer. I need you awake right now.' He was being forceful, he knew, but he had to be. He couldn't risk her falling asleep before he managed to get her into a trance.

Leon looked at Avery, she was right, this wasn't normal. 'You're being pulled into the dream world. A demon, probably a psychic one, is after you. They're trying to trap you in a nightmare. You have to fight it. Think of good times, try and avoid anything dark or scary. Think of food, and rainbows, and sunrise, and birds, and butterflies. Think of things you will see on the surface. Things that don't ever turn up in nightmares.' He told her. He threw a ball of light in the air, allowing it to hover above them. 'Don't sleep. Just don't fall asleep.'

She nodded, trying to keep her eyes open as she thought. There hadn't been a lot of happy things in her life the past few hundred years...until a smiling face appeared in her mind. Her brother, when he was happy and not sick, or sad that she was leaving him. She had to fight this off for his sake. She had to keep living because that was the promise she had made him. Her wrist glowed again and she said "I can do this...I can do this...." She fought to keep her eyes open, a nice fire in her eyes.

Leon smiled. 'That's it Avery. Focus on that. Keep going. Fight for the good times. Fight for everything you've yet to experience. Fight for love and excitement and happiness.' He stopped himself. 'That was the cheesiest thing I've ever said.' He chuckled. 'Oh well.' He smiled at Avery. 'Yes, you can do this. And you are.'

Avery looked at him, still fighting but this fire wouldn't last long. "Whatever you were going to do...do it...I won't last long at this rate..." She blinked hard, fighting to keep her eyes open. But the pull for sleep was getting the better of her in her weakened state.

Alex shook his head. 'I can't put you in a trance, it won't work. It'll make it easier for them to pull you in.' He thought for a moment. What could he do? Unless... 'The only way I could help is to establish a psychic link, find where the link is with the other demon and break it.' He couldn't think of another way. The only problem with that was, that if he didn't succeed, his mind would be sucked into nightmares along with hers. They'd both be trapped inside her nightmares.

She looked at him and said "I can shield you from him...I just can't do it for long...if you break his link from this side you should...be safe from being...being sucked in..." She leaned forward again, barely keeping her eyes open.

Leon nodded, closing his eyes and honing in on Avery's mind. His conciousness floated away from him. He was connected to her, probing her mind, testing various areas. Nightmares. That's what it was. Or it could be memories. He tried the dreaming area first. That seemed to be where the link was, but it was drawing on fear and memories. He pushed against it, forming a small psychic barrier between the psychic energy of the demon and the mind of Avery, which was beginning to sever the link.

The demon started to head towards the angel, but Avery blocked him and blasted him away. Her mentel self looked a lot different then her human form but it wasn't looking strong as she fought off the dream demon. "Leon...hurry...please..."

Leon's mental form nodded at the mental form of Avery. He had a glow about him in this form, one that wasn't seen in his more human form. He raised his hands and blasted at the link, which was visible by the psychic form. He then blasted the demon, firing upon him with holy light, the kind that is deadly to pure demons. The dream demon disintegrated into nothingness, and Leon's job was done. He closed his eyes and reverted back to his own body.

Leon smiled, a little out of breath but otherwise fine. 'Any time.' He chuckled. He made it sound like an everyday occurrence. 'I'm sure you'd do something similar if the tables were turned.' He said, a little hopeful, but he thought he could trust her.
