"Laws are like sausages — it is best not to see them being made"
--Otto von Bismarck

Bullet Points:
-- NRP set in a single nation
-- You play members of congress and the presidential administration.
-- The game will work like a super small scale NRP, each person getting a single order.
-- The key to this game is cooperation and working together, not winning the game.
-- Fine, you want to win? Get your president reelected and make the country a better place

Setting: United States of America, present day This is subject to change, it could be a fictional country but I still want to keep the American form of government.

Situation: The presidential elections have just finished and a new commander-in-chief is in the White House. With the president comes a new cabinet and administration, it's up to them and Congress to help the country by enacting new laws and policies that will benefit the people of America. Keep in mind that every choice and decision doesn't happen in a vacuum There will be resistance from members of the opposition, your own party, and even from the voters. As good as it is to change things for the better, it's also good to get reelected. Will your legacy be one of immense fortune and prosperity? Or one of economic ruin? Will you stand firm against the foreign powers of the world? Or bend the knee in the name of peace? Those decisions are yours to make.

In Character Info: The game will run pretty much like any NRP. You'll all have one single order you can use in a turn, each turn will consist of about three months. If you're a cabinet member your orders need to be run by the president for confirmation (chain of command and all that) but members of the House and Senate don't need presidential approval to try to pass legislation through their legislative bodies. The IC thread will mainly for announcements of new policies and laws, along with reaction from various politicians on events that I will create. I'll have a list of stats for the country, along with the most important state: Approval rating. A higher approval rating from the president means his/her party could sweep a midterm election and make passage of laws and bills through congress easier. It also means that oh so important objective of reelection is a lot easier for the president.

Out of Character Info: To make things work better, I figure I can create an IRC channel for people to discuss things together before submitting orders. Like I said, the key to success is to work together.

Oh, hello again! Been a while since the old site :)

I've had an idea like this rolling around in my mind ever since starting House of Cards, just didn't know how to set it up as a RP. Absolutely brilliant job on this Int Check. Every fiber of my being wants to throw myself into this, but alas.. I'm too busy as is. I'm afraid I'll have to read this from the sidelines until my schedule clears up. I do wish you the absolute best of luck going forward with this though!

P.S. Love the quotes for each position; funny, Ayotte is currently my state Senator.

I'll throw in my hat. Are we using the same Republican/Democrat lineup? And I assume that for check and balance, the president shall be on one side and the senate controlled by another?

Either that or, like it is right now, with the president's party in control of the Senate but the House is in controlled by the opposition. I figure it's up to whoever want to be president to decide the party and we can go from there.

I'm just going to act as GM, rolling dice and providing info along with playing any NPCs that would be needed.

I'm tempted with intellectual Democrat President which is more or less competant but simply isn't a people's person or Republican chief of senate or house that Ditched the Tea Party to try and be more 'Libertarian pro-individual rights' kinda person. Or vice versa?

Okay, if we get more interest in president I may just do a small scale election cycle before the IC opens up.

I'll throw my hat in for President as well. Maybe have a CS and have the people vote for which char they'd prefer?

That sounds like a good idea. I'll put together some kind of political questionnaire, probably pull questions from a presidential debate.

Okay, here's the "Presidential CS" fill it out when you can. And remember to answer each question as well-thought out as you can, no simple yes or nos. It's not important that you answer how you as a person would answer. This is how the president you want to play would answer.

Foreign Affairs

Is China an economic or military threat to the US?
Should there be an independent Palestinian state?
What is your stance on the War on Terror? Are you in favor of endorsing the Bush Doctrine (pursuing nations that harbor or sponsor terrorism) or are you in favor of a more pragmatic approach to terrorist organizations and the countries in which they operate?
Are covert drone strikes on terrorist and suspected terrorist locations a policy you would endorse?
Is the authorized arresting and indefinite detaining of suspected terrorists, including US citizens, without charge good for America?

Domestic Affairs

Should nonviolent drug users be jailed?
Should the federal government increase direct financial aid (loans/grants/debt relief) for college students?
Are more federal regulations on guns and ammunition needed?
Should gay marriage be legal?
Should the US Constitution and Bill of Rights be amended or updated in any way?
Should drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) be allowed?
Are federal health care reform laws good for America?

Economy/Taxes/Entitlement

Is outsourcing jobs to other countries good for America?
Should the federal deficit be reduced without raising any taxes?
Does the US need welfare and food stamp reform or abolishment?
Are illegal immigrants a net gain to the US economy?
Do lower taxes provide incentive for employers to hire more workers?
Should Social Security be privatized?

I think we should hold an actual pole on either A: One of the other pages on the site or B: Another site entirely since we'd get a larger sample size.
