@DeadDrop

Well, like I said earlier - I get very Deus Ex HR vibes - Detroit, special police work, augmentations, secret behind the scenes stuff, so on and so forth. Is there anything in particular I should know? I get the impression this is a setting from some other RP or something, but idk if I'm reading into it too much?

The setting is unique, I didnt take it from another rp.
The unit isnt a secretive one it was created to combat the crime wave.
The only thing that you could associate this rp with deus ex is that its cyberpunk.
And mysteeeeeery.
The cops in the unit dont necessaryily need augs, its not an augged exlusive unit. There are units where its augs only but this isnt one of them.

Hmmm, fair enough then.

Is the augmentation stuff at a Human Revolution level, or less/more advanced? And just to clarify - we're basically the SWAT to SWAT, or am I reading that wrong?

No we're not a swat team we're an investigation unit.

I wouldent compare augs to HR.

Augs are advanced, not everyone can get them due to cost

You can be creative with what augs you do have, just keep in mind of cyber psycosis and I'll judge if the augs you start with is acceptable.

Cyber psychosis?

And uh... could I get a baseline tech level/acceptability level?

- The more cybernetics you have the more prone you are to going into cyber-psychosis, essentially seeing others as threats (humans) and trying to murder them. That's when you get PKed, having a few augs is fine but know when enough is enough or you'll die.

From the front page.

Nothing huge like military hardware, rockets on your back.

Think simple.

Look at the existing character sheets.

Arms, chips, neural implants.

The gist.

Again I need to review what you post, so if you arent sure post anyway and we'll get it solved if need be ;3

Aye, I figured nothing too crazy.

Is it alright if I ask why cyber psychosis is a thing?

So you dont be a walking tank.

ICly the more augs you have the less human you become.

Aye, I know the 'gameplay' reason! I was more asking for why you become less human - the lore behind it, I suppose.

I'm working on a sheet, never fear, just curious!

Cyberpsychosis is the effect of installing too much cyberware In the Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game this is noted as Humanity Cost, or Humanity Index in the original rules. It is a system that limits the amount of cyberwear one can get, with the penalty of causing madness and a loss of emotional empathy. Too much would result in a character becoming an unplayable psychopath.

Cyberpsychosis

The cyberpsycho must constantly fight to keep from going over the edge and committing irrational, violent acts of murder and mayhem. Most of the time, he loses.

Then everybody loses.

Something happens when you start adding metal and plastic to people. They start to change. And it isn't pretty. In the 2000's, we call this cyberpsychosis; a mental disease in which the addition of cybernetics causes an 'already unstable personality to fragment. At first, the victim begins to relate more to machines than to humans. Soon, he starts to ignore people, parents, friends, lovers. Eating, sleeping all become less important. Finally, human interactions begin to irritate, culminating in a terrifying rage that consumes the victim entirely.

@DeadDrop I’m a little confused on how quickly technology - in particular cyber augmentation - has progressed over just two years. How come augmentation is commonly used, when the majority of the modern day military let alone law enforcement is still on the experimental level with exosuits?

From the interest check.

"Detroit wasn't the city it use to be, like most US cities it was advanced. More advanced than anyone could have predicted in this time and age, if it wasn't for the technological revolution that it would still be bankrupt, gang ridden and recovering from the hardest plague this side of the Atlantic. The Yellow Rot, it still oozes with some of the denizens but it's nothing too bad right. Most of the population has recovered, while they could. The vaccine affected most but, some people walk around oozing the fluids of something supernatural. Many speculated it wasn't of this world, but no one could prove it. It would be after 2010 that the world picked itself up from the pandemic, nanomachines, Cybernetics, and medicine was the focus of it all. Weapons took a back seat, but pre-tech weapons were abundant while those that cast plasma or smear hyper lasers into another's chest. Well, those kick around as well."

Timeline diverges from real life after 9/11.

This is cyberpunk and elements of modern society are mimialistic as society has changed in a decade.

I wouldent compare to cyberpunk to irl (experimental exosuits).

In real life these concepts are experimental, in cyberpunk they arent.
They are grounded and work, there are tech mega giants.

I can go more in depth later today but the gist is our world is nothing like the one I'm portraying.

Well, one last question before I turn in for the night - just what is weapons tech like, exactly? Are we still using chemical propellants for the most part, or are plasma and railguns the order of the day?

Mostly asking because I have a fondness for hand cannons and I must know the tech so I can tailor my hand cannon thusly.

Standard issue for police is laser.

Plasma is more expensive and old world is common.
