[IC] Sonic (X) The Hedgehog: Free From The Lab { Goth & Angel }

Sonya had her eyes placed in front of her while making her full advance down the road. 'Now, I don't know where to go from here. Guess we'll have to follow the lights, and see where they lead', the female hedgehog thought to herself, while she and Sonic dashed down the road. A few cars came before her, and she evaded them with ease.

The faster she went, the more architecture began to appear. There was a city up ahead! It was good to see something that would provide them shelter, but the question was where.

[Smarty Jones]

"We can see there is a abandoned building." *Sonic said to Sonya as they ran. He dodged the oncoming cars as well, not wanting to get hit by them. He saw the city lights come into view, and he couldn't help but wondering if this was the first place the humans from the lab would look for them. Would the scientists put up notice about the escapees? And if they were to put out a notice and offer a reward for his and Sonya's return, how long would it be before the humans started actively looking for them to turn them in? Sonic didn't want to put that much thought into the possibility, but he knew that if Sonya and him wanted to survive in this new place, they had to be careful. Of course it was unlike Sonic to be careful, unless it meant protecting his sister. Sonic and his sister were protective of each other, and it made sense, considering that they were the only family each other had. If one of them died, the other would be alone. The thought left a bitter taste in Sonic's mouth, but he pushed it aside for the time being.*

"Worry about the humans if it came down to that. Worry about finding shelter first." *Sonic thought to himself.*

As much as hiding in a city sounds risky, Sonya knew that she her brother need a place to hide and settle, if they were to live in peace from human personnel. She continued to follow the lights down the road, until she managed to come upon a structure at the side of road. It was at least a few yards, to a mile away from the city, at the most. For this building to have caught her green eye, Sonya stopped in front of the place. She waited for Sonic to catch up, and once he did, the female hedgehog smiled. "It's not much, but it'll do for now", she told him, while scanning the place. She looked at him again, before proceeding inside.

*Sonic looked around before going inside, sniffing the air for any trace of food and water. If they were to survive, they needed a food source as well as a clean water source. Not to mention a mention of staying warm in it was winter. Although Sonic never had seen what winter was like, he heard about how cold it was during that time of year from the scientists.*

"Okay. Now we have shelter but what about food and water? I don't like the idea of raiding human garbage. If we have to do that to survive, I'll so do but not unless we can't find another food source." *Sonic said. His ears perked as he heard squeaking and he dropping into a hunting crouch. Despite not being taught how to hunt, mother nature seemed to have programmed it into Sonic's brain. He sprang when he was close enough, killing the wild rat by snapping its neck with his hands. Well, it wasn't a mobian rat, but it answered Sonic's question about food. He turned to Sonya, the rat in his hands.*

"Want me to catch one for you too?" *Sonic said, a smirk on his face. There was humor in his eyes as well.*

Sonya had to look around at the collapsed roof, and the worn-out floorboards. Sure, to wasn't the nicest place she had seen by far, but it was better than having hide out on the outside. She was absorbed of their surroundings, she only came back to awareness when she heard a deafening snap! from nearby. To see Sonic having to kill an innocent rat, the elder gave him a disapproving look at the rat in his hands. That's when she remembered: He barely knew anything about the outside world, due to being born and raised in a scientific environment, and not a natural one.

Resourceful she was, Sonya retreated out of the place in a dash, and towards the city. A second later, she came back with a few small white boxes: Chinese food. "Eat up", she tossed one to the younger. There was something that Sonic wished to know about the female hedgehog: How does she do it?

*Sonic dropped the rat and caught the box and sniffed it. The scent was good, it smelled so much better than the kibble that he used to eat. Sonic started to open the box, wondering how his sister managed to find such good smelling food, but paused, ears perked. He heard something, and it sounded too large to be another rat. He started to growl, going to defense mode once again, thinking that the noise came from a human.*

"Who's there?!" *Sonic snapped, quills raised in alarm. His fur stood on end, looking around.*

Sonya chuckled at Sonic's desperation to eat real food, rather than eat a wild animal. That was gonna be one of the many things she would need to teach him, if they were to survive out here. The scientists have concluded that Sonya's intelligence might be around the levels of a genius, considering that she was able to find out the ways of living and surviving. However, they've certainly missed her ability to conjure up an escape plan.

Just as she was about to take a bite of the cooked food from the box, shuffling was being heard behind her and Sonic. Immediately, the younger hedgehog was quick to prepare himself, but she was not. Just as Sonya was carefully putting down the box, a square punch came to her face, making her go tumbling backwards, and into the wooden wall nearby.

*Sonic heard Sonya go tumbling and put his food down. He snarled and lunged at his attacker, but he had misjudged his own speed in his anger. He found himself pinned by the throat against the wall. Sonic kicked his feet and his attacker let go. In the dim light, Sonic could see that a red creature with purple eyes was glaring at him. Sonic hesitated before going in for another attack, only to get a punch to the jaw. The salty taste of blood filled Sonic's mouth, and he used his tongue to learn that he was now missing one molar in the far back.*

"Oh, now you are in for it!" *Sonic snarled.*

*The red creature grabbed Sonic before he could try to attack again and pinned him once more. Violet eyes stared down at him, and Sonic realized that this creature, even though he didn't really look like him and Sonya, wasn't like the creatures that he had seen so far in life. The odd red creature looked like... dare he say it... a mobian. A spiked hand was drawn back, ready to punch him once more. But, the hand paused when Sonic spoke.*

"Are you... what the humans call... a mobian?" *Sonic asked.*

*The red creature let Sonic go when he said mobian. The creature was silent for a while, wondering if he should answer Sonic's question. After all, Sonic could've been a human in disguise. Humans were strange like that.*

Sonya was just steadying herself to her feet, just until she spotted the assailant preparing to beat Sonic to the ground. "Let him go!", she snarled, once she got to her feet. She was just about ready to pounce on the odd red figure, but she managed to stop herself once she heard her little brother try to talk some sense into his attacker. So he was a mobian too? A pretty violent one, that is. Did he escape from a lab too?

For Sonic's sake, the elder went right with the conversation; really to hold back from retaliating against him for advancing on them in the first place. "We're mobian too; hedgehogs, that is", she has never seen a specimen like him before. "My name is Sonya; this is Sonic. We don't mean to intrude. We just need a place to stay", she probably figured that this individual was trying to protect its territory. It would probably be best to break the ice if they were to share it.

[Smarty Jones]

"My name is Knuckles. Knuckles the Echidna. Sorry for attacking you two, I thought you guys were the enemy, meaning I thought you were humans. I escaped from a lab as well. What's the story with you two?" *Knuckles said, looking between Sonic and Sonya.*

*Sonic wasn't sure if they would answer the Echinda's question, since they just barely met and the trust wasn't there yet. Sonic continued to glare at Knuckles, but the glare did soften a little when Knuckles mentioned the word "lab." His mind went back to a time that he was surprised he remembered. Well, not clearly, but the memory was there for sure. Sonic's mind had taken him back to when he was born. He was crying, covered in blood and goo from the c-section his mother had to have to bring Sonic safely into the world. The memory had a part about his mother dying and the scientists placing the new-born hedgehog kit on his mother's body. To see if the sounds of his wails would get her to care for him, but by then, she was already almost on her way out.*

Sonya may have read her little brother's mind when the question was asked. They had just met this 'Knuckles', and sadly, the eldest didn't seem to have it in her trust anyone outside of the lab. Either with or without a human, she didn't have it in her to place trust in anyone just yet. However, she did give a soft glare at the Echidna a few moments after saying that he too was from a lab. Another escapee? Last time she checked, she and Sonic were the only mobians in custody of human personnel. At least that's what she heard anyway.

"It's a long story, Knuckles. One that we can't just tell immediately. Besides, we trust little to no one right now", she sadly confessed.

[Smarty Jones]

"I see. Perhaps it was a little hasty of me to ask anyway." *Knuckles said, looking between the two hedgehogs. They looked related, but how, Knuckles wasn't sure. He watched as Sonic got to his feet and shook out his fur, before going over to the other hedgehog. The blue male looked rather annoyed as he stood beside his relative, daring Knuckles to try to attack again. Knuckles glared at other male for a second, before turning his attention back to Sonya.*

"You might want to tell Sonic to looking at me like that. Unless he wants the rest of his teeth knocked out of his jaw." *Knuckles said.*

"Watch it!" *Sonic snapped, still glaring at Knuckles, his blue fur bristling and quills raised. He let out a growl, trying to let the Echidna know that he was protective of his only remaining family, that if need be, he would die to protect his sister.*

Sonya knew that her relationship with her little brother was not to be underestimated. As far as both hedgehogs knew, they only relied on each other, ever since the youngest was brought into the world. Plus, they added on that reliance since they escaped the lab. They trusted very little of everyone, especially humans, except for each other.

Crossing her arms, Sonya looked at Knuckles with a skeptical glare in her green eyes, as if she had doubted him. The look wasn't genuine, but she did close her eyes passively for a moment, after hearing the threat made towards Sonic. "Perhaps I gave him the right to. After all, we've got no one but each other", she stubbornly announced to Knuckles, with her eyes still closed.

[Smarty Jones]

"If it came down to it, I would give my life to protect her." *Sonic said, adding on to what Sonya had said. His growling slowed, and his glare faded to softer glare, going form that of a "I'll going to kill you" look to a "I wanted to trust you, but I can't" look, if there was such a thing. It was true that if it came to Sonya's life or his own, Sonic would choose Sonya's life over his own. It would leave his sister alone on this planet, but she was resourceful and smart enough to survive, even though Sonic knew that she would miss him.*

*Knuckles was silent for a moment after what Sonic had said. It sounded like those two would to anything for each other, even give their own lives if it meant protecting the other. After he had processed what the two have said and thought of something to say for himself, he spoke.*

"You two are lucky that you had each other's support. For a while, the only mobian that I knew of was me. I mean, I was the only mobian at the lab I escaped from." *Knuckles said then facepalmed, realizing how much trust he had just put into the two that he had just met. That could've been a mistake.*

Sonya's glare hardened, in a determined manner, at Knuckles evaluation of the two siblings. It was true. They would do anything to spare the other from tragedy; be either perform a rash actions or go to extreme lengths to protect the others' well-being. Soon enough, her glare softened at the Echidna's side of the story. 'So he escaped from a lab too? There shouldn't be any harm in telling him how we feel about the situation. After all, we may need an ally out here', she thought after a moment of listening to Knuckles. Sighing in defeat, she finally spoke. "Same goes for us", if Sonic didn't like her saying such a thing, she sent him an apologetic look, feeling truly sorry to reveal their secret to a total stranger. "We escaped too".

[Smarty Jones]

*Sonic gave Sonya a look of surprise, wondering how she could have trusted the newcomer so easily. Was she going to believe everything that was told to her, even after what happened in the lab? Sonic looked away at her apologetic look and his ears went back as he thought of what to do or say. Lab escapee or not, they couldn't just make friends with everyone they came across so readily. All it took was one human disguised as a mobian and it would be over. Their freedom, their happiness, and Sonic had a feeling that the lab put them through worse hell if they got caught and sent back.*

"Glad I'm not the only escapee who fled from a lab. What kind of stuff did they try to put you through? I can only imagine what they tried to make you two do as a male and female pair." *Knuckles said, looking to Sonya, then Sonic, then back again.*

*As Knuckles finished his sentence, a shiver ran down Sonic's spine as he recalled the time they tried to get Sonic and Sonya to breed. It never worked, thanks the gods, but Sonic still had nightmares about it from time to time.*

Sonya didn't show the same reaction that her little brother but she certainly growled at the memories of the scientists trying to make them breed. Her imagination was even beyond of how it was performed, and she was only glad that she didn't cooperate with them either. There were days where they even showed them abominations to how it worked. It became more of a nightmare than either a bad dream, or a bad day. Besides, she wouldn't do such things to Sonic. Not. At. All. Plus, she knew that her brother wouldn't do a thing in return, but when he came to her that he was having nightmares, all she could do was rock him in comfort, and wish away the memories with a lullaby. This was a repetitive process, because the events in the lab stay the same; terribly. In response of Sonic's current state, she held his gloved hand with her own, silently telling him that he was not the only one, and that he wasn't alone in this fight.

[Smarty Jones]

"Don't bring that up again." *Sonic said, trying to push the thoughts of the past from his mind. He shook his head, trying to clear away the memories, at least for the time being.*

*Knuckles looked at Sonic, and realized how terrified he looked. Oops. Shouldn't have said anything. He was going to apologize for even mentioning it, but then he thought it probably wasn't the time to do so. Maybe later, when they got to know each other better. For, it was mostly likely better to make small talk, and hope that he didn't upset any of them. Well, until they pissed him off, but it until they did, might as well be careful, as he felt as if he was on thin ice, since he just met them.*

"Now might not be the time to ask, but are you two related? You look like." *Knuckles said, taking his attention from the blue male who was still trying to clear his head.*

Just like that, Sonya squeezed his hand gently and reassuringly. "I'm sorry, little brother", she said to him, feeling genuinely sorry for revealing such a thing to a stranger. "I won't say it again, I promise", and she did. She won't say it anymore for his sake. But the hypocrisy of not trusting anyone, was rather odd. Right after they stepped out the door, the female hedgehog become cynical, having to only care about hers and Sonic's wellbeing, whilst only viewing humans as the cruelest beings in existence.

Growing up, they've even seen another Mobian, with the exception of Sonya being able to only see their mother for a brief period of time. They only had each other, while growing up in a harsh environment, as well as inside the harsh reality of the humans. She kept her grip on Sonic's hand, even while she reponded to Knuckles' question. "We are. We're brother and sister, the only blue male and female hedgehogs left in existence", she bluntly answered, before squeezing her brother's hand a little tighter, as if she refused to let him go, and disappear.

[Smarty Jones]

*Sonic didn't react to his sister squeezing his hand at first. He felt her doing so, but he wasn't sure how to react. After a few heartbeats, he decided to squeeze his sister's hand back not wanting to lose her sister, like she didn't want to lose him.*

"I thought so. Same color eyes and fur, it was too much of a coincidence for you not to be related.If you guys were the same sex, I would say that you were clones or identical twins. But, I guess you're older than your brother?" *Knuckles said. As much as he could relate the whole thing about being the last of your family or race or tribe, he wasn't sure he wanted to bring it up yet. Maybe later on, but for now, as long as they could get along with revealing too much or whatever, that was good enough for Knuckles.*
