Mandy had resigned herself to the fact that try as she might she couldn’t find a buyer for the firetrap her grandparents saddled her with because the loved her best. Then there was the three oldest tenants that whenever she got up enough nerve to talk to them they showed her pictures of her in the place, in her grandparents laps or in theirs when she was too young to be responsible for who was holding her. That always defused the Bitch within her that was trying to get them to move out and she slunk downstairs to her own personal Hell and started brewing coffee.

Today she brought out three pies setting them under glass bowl flipped upside down and hopefully able to keep the bugs at bay. There was a typical Apple Pie a Raspberry Blackberry Pie and a Cherry Pie along with a glass jar filled with Snickerdoodles.

Once she was set up she turned on her computer and began bitching about how full of it some twit was that thought a vote should be measured by monetary contribution to the government in the form of taxes.

Anthony looked at the front of a dingy coffee shop. SLACKERS, in big letters adorned the facade of the building. Sighing, Anthony cursed his own luck. He had asked around about the cheapest place to rent a room and everyone had pointed him in the direction of this place. Pushing through the door, the smell of pies hit him squarely in the face. A black and silver motorcycle could be seen behind him as he walked through the door.

Walking up to the counter, Anthony found himself face to face with a woman that looked like she could chew up and spit out the entire world without blinking an eye, such was her 'I don't give a flying fuck' attitude. Opening his mouth, a somewhat gravely, but very attractive, voice tumbled out.

"Hey there, I hear that you rent rooms for dirt cheap. Is that true?" No smile appeared on Anthony's face. Instead, he was studying the pies that were further along the counter, debating whether or not to purchase a slice.

Mandy looked up when Anthony walked through the door and listened impassively as he asked about a room and exhaled as if she would deflate answering. "Rooms are 310 a month no lease, payment up front and by the third, no deposit and you're out without debate if I say"

Then she rubbed her eyes and closed the only thing she valued; her Laptop

310...well, that wasn't exactly dirt cheap, but is was better than anywhere else around here. Sighing, Anthony walked back out of the door, rummaged through the bags on his motorcycle and brought out a wad of cash. Counting out 310, he shoved the last few tens in his wallet. Entering the coffee shop once again, Anthony placed the wad of 310 on the counter. Then, motioning towards the apple pies he spoke again.

"How much for a slice of apple?"

Mandy watched the hopeful look surprised disappointed when she said the price of the room, luckily she wasn’t the sensitive type and shed it like the ducks do water.
-Wait till he finds out that the bathrooms are separate- she thought as he wandered back out then back in. Mandy caught a look at the bike and hoped he didn’t think it could remain unmolested parked in this neighborhood.

When he thumped down the Cash she swept it off the counter top with the practiced ease of a stage magician or croupier and smiled because his cash meant the difference between a good and a bad month.

”Normally $3.25 a slice but consider this a perk for joining or luxury accommodations” she says in a flippant tone that is hard to tell if she just joking or a smartass

The slice is generous and actually pleasing to the eye and it’s taste worthy of some fancy restaurant as well as addictive.

Then she sits back and sips her coffee from her Presonal Mug

Taking up the plate, Anthony flashed Mandy a smile. Then, walking towards a window seat, he placed the slice of pie down and walked back outside. Now, to find a place to store his motorcycle. Walking around, Anthony noticed a series of alleyways that travelled behind the building. Kicking away the kickstand, Anthony led his bike around back. Pulling an old, dingy tarp out of one of the bags, he started to unfold it. Making sure to grab his book on advanced quantum physics, Anthony covered the bike with the tarp, effectively hiding it among the garbage and refuse of the alley.

Walking back around, Anthony sighed as he pulled out a pair of reading glasses. Letting them sit on the bridge of his nose, Anthony opened the book in his hands. Entering the cafe again, Anthony took his spot by the window. Reading and eating, Anthony slumped back in his chair.

Mandy saw the book and thought about how dim the Coffee shop was and the how dirty and smeared the window was on the outside and she wasn't cleaning it. They were his eyes.

So she went back to her laptop flipping it open and read some moron who was trying to make excuses about how the God of the Bible never approved of Slavery or how the biblical version wasn't as bad as that practiced by the south before the Civil war. Her wait was awarded by a very vocal and obviously articulate man who's forum avi was a cute little kitten and it had claws but as well done as his argument was his opponent did the old fundamentalist shuffle and blew off every point insisting writing the rules for the treatment of slaves was in no way endorsing slavery. He countered and she ignored his attacks on her position acting as if she had won.

Mandy laughed at them both, her for her blindness and him for his attempt to change the mind of a moron which reminded her of the old pig's ear and purse example

Flipping the station and turning up the volume Mandy sways back and forth to a tune called the "The Boy From Black Mountain"

She wasn't sure why but she liked the tune. It had come on one of those days when she put the Youtube music videos on auto pilot bored with common fare and on it came like a carnival freak she couldn't turn away from.

It was a sweet tune and a bit old fashioned sounding but it made her smile in a gentler manner than “God will Fuck you Up?” and edgy gospel written and performed by some folk singer. Next came tunes that followed it on auto pilot that made her think of Cowboys and Cowboys made her think of Brokeback mountain which made her laugh.

Goddess what a funny movie and she wasn’t talking about the script or anything done on screen but the reaction of some of her male friends; priceless. She often imagined John Wayne’s corpus doing backflips in his grave as some had suggested and it didn’t help that she knew a lovely statistic that said the male homosexual population in the old west was larger than that found in the cities. All those sweaty men and less women made it the happy hunting grounds for the Fire Island tribes of the day.

But as always such thoughts were fleeting in her head because she’d been there, done that already so her hungry mind went in search of something interesting so she typed in Hairy egg and read the urban dictionary said it was Similar to your average Dingleberry, only this is a larger quantity of feces attached to even more hair..

She laughed out loud as she thought of it and other little nuggets of absurdity she’d found using this as a form of entertainment

"Goddess this place sucks, I'm always broke and my customers are boring if it wasn't for the ancient trio I'd lose my shirt" gripes Mandy to no one except her cat Salivia

Bored with the cattle drive she selects Eivør I tokuni a very witchy tune that encourages her to stand and sway to the tune, then when Trollibundin comes on next with its tribal rhythms she selects trending for 200 in the Urban Dictionary and sees Taylor Swifting and it's connection to South Park and cracks up.

Relax nerd, this is just a coffee shop.

A middle-size wheeled suitcase on hand, Tony slung the small backpack over his shoulder and walked inside. Truth be told, he looked a little bit weary and nervous, but of course, getting kicked out the blue with no plan B and not quite enough time will surely result into chaotic stress. Regardless to that, Mister nerd carefully made his way towards the counter; hesitant step after step, similar to the walk of a new shy student through crowded highschool halls or maybe the worse. That was hard to tell.

His attention instantly captured the black-haired female.
Okay, that is normal.
Laughing out loud, busy with the laptop.
Normal, too.
And then he saw the "Man tears" mug.
Take that back. Girls these days are never normal.

Yuuup, guess this woman is the type of assignment he would rather not get involved in. Adjusting his glasses, the male cleared his throat anxiously and spoke; his hoarse voice above a whisper but decently audible, to her at least. "Hello, um.. I'm looking for a temporary room for rent, am I in the right place?"

He then dropped the suitcase and for a brief second, his eyes wandered around. One man, good thing the place wasn't packed. Less people, more relief.

Amy trudged herself through the door, and into the coffee shop she had grown accustomed to, She moved to the counter, still, what she would consider 90% asleep. but she needed her morning coffee. She slapped down double the usual amount with a nod to Mandy, "I'll need to, its been a rough.." she paused for a moment to look at the clock on her phone, "Yeah, you get the gist." she sat down at the counter resting her head on it, when she had first arrived at 'Slackers' she was worried about the dirt, and such, but now this was home, and she was tired. She turned her head to notice the pies. She pulled out another five dollar bill, "And a slice of cherry, as usual."

Mandy looked up smiling as the door opened and saw a guy that reminded her a little of David Tennant and then when he spoke it was charming helpless nerd/geek asking for a room @Chasebloodcrest

"It's 310 a month rent upfront no deposit due by the third every month or out, you do something I don't like you're otta here no debates" she said finishing with a surprised smile as Amy slipped past the nervous young guy.

Amy plopped down and was predictable so Mandy had a cup poured and slid it before her as she lifted the glass bowl covering the cherry pie.

"Knowing this is the worst moment to bring this up Amy but do you know what a Hairy Egg is?" an evil and amused smile on the raven-haired girl's face @Deadlyrose9641

She slices the face of her cherry pie taking joy in the destruction of art becoming a Deity briefly in the pastry world

"I think I'm coming down with Alopecia universalis from the neck down, don't even know why I buy razors anymore says as she presents the slice as perfectly cut as the lacy pattern of it's crust

What the fuck.

Tony literally mouthed these three words in mere breaths, accompanied with couple mutters beneath it. For a split second, he parted his lips as if trying protest, come out with an argument to settle the price a little down but to no avail, he closed that mouth shut; the slight slump of shoulders confirmed his unspoken defeat.

Whatever...

Like any typical nerd, he adjusted his glasses once more without taking his eyes off Mandy, sucked his teeth and eventually drew his black Rick and Morty wallet out of his pocket. Couple repeated calculations and he positioned the money on the counter, " And here ya go, Miss man tears drinker."

Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut...
She was busy talking with the other girl, maybe she didn't hear me.
Or maybe I should have kept my mouth shut.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
Plan. Anxiety. Plan. Anxiety.
Shit. Coffee. Shit.
Coffee

Unknowingly, he found himself pulling yet another 10 dollar bill and said: "And a cup of coffee please."

She took a large sip of her coffee and looked up at Mandy, "N-No, I have no clue What that is, Some kind of decoration?" she said with a curious look, Amy wasn't much of a talker to anyone else, but Mandy was almost like family. She hated family though, which made there dynamic even stranger to her. She took another big gulp of Coffee, "Alot of new people today, I hope they keep it down, I'm gonna write my book today."

Mandy looks at Tony as she palms the money off her countertop with the flair of a stage magician; no one has even seen her put it in her pocket.

"It's a cheap cup, got it at a yard sale along with the others and because this one is dark it doesn't show stains like the others...oh and I love the looks she laughs softly as she opens a hand revealing a key with a brass tag that says E

"Here's your room and no business in the room, do it in their car or get a motel room I don't need them or the cops hanging around" she says with an amused smirk. @Chasebloodcrest

Amy looked shocked for a moment, with a little bit of her usual disgust, "Mandy, must you always talk about what you find on the internet, I Don't know what time it is, but I'm sure its too early, or too late for that." She laughed a bit and took another sip from her coffee, she then looked at the new guy, "So, your gonna live here? Try to keep it down, I have to maintain a good environment to write," She then stood up and trudged over to a far chair with her coffee and slice of pie, before resting her head in her arms, for a quick nap.

No business in the room and try to keep it down.

Two minutes and these two are getting quite bossy already. What's next? bend the knee and swear loyalty to this crappy coffee shop? guess so. With a careless shrug, whatever it was, Tony took the key with a nod; the simple gesture suggested acceptance rather than annoyance. Besides, he will stay here for a while, and starting an argument or even showing a glimpse of disagreement might cause unnecessary troubles. Additionally, the situation isn't that.. bad, right?

Maybe.

"I don't know what kind of business were you signaling but.. if it includes BDSM then I'm heavily into it," he leaned nearer to the counter, the nerdism smirk breaking into sight. "Y'know- Batman, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Trek and Mathematics. Now, where is my coffee?"

Turning around to meet the other girl, he added. "Don't worry, I'm a bookish type of a man too, your circumstances are quite understandable. I will be just... shhhhhh."

After ten minutes or so, Amy lifted her head and yawn a bit. she sluggishly went back to the counter, and put more money down, "Another coffee, If ya don't mind.." she yawned again before she looked at her email on her phone, nothing but spam, and coupons, for bath and body works. she quickly deleted the spam, including the stuff from publishers, and one from her father, Yep delete all the spam, and nothing but the spam. "And I'm not the bookish type, I don't read much. I kind of hate reading" she said to the newest member of what she considered, a very functional family. She looked at the man ( @Drakey ) who was by the window, another new face, And stared at him for a moment, Wondering why anyone would try to read in this lighting.

Mandy having meant only to pop into the apartment for a few minutes and check feed Saliva woke up a little later, like 4 maybe 5 hours later having had fallen asleep in the big Lazyboy that her grandfather must have spent hours in because she was sure she could smell him still. She had never really known her dad's parents because they were too radical for her dad's sense of conformity but those memories she did have were pleasant and a bit silly.

She was surrounded by her Grandmother's art and had several books of poetry filled with a passion for life and a woman; it was sweet and she felt as if it should make her sick but in reality she was envious. Her grandparents had shared a love they write books about and the proof the over 1,000 pages poetry written by him, not counting their joint love letters that had shocked Mandy when she'd read some of them.

So with a sigh she decided to head out and see if she still had a Coffee Shop.

She popped out and found Walt had sat up taking in any merger funds and helped himself to two slices of pie.

Looking at the pie that was left Mandy sliced each and then glad wrapped each slice onto a paper plate with plastic fork and carried outside to a bench that once held the asses of working people waiting on the now discontinued bus line that served the neighborhood.

There was already three of the local urban dwellers waiting so she split the slices up with them and even gave each a cheap bottle of water to wash it down and sat perhaps 15 more minutes with the remaining slices handing them out to the stragglers. If she had been questioned about her uncharacteristic kindness she would have claimed she did it to keep them from digging in her trash which was strangely true. She had started this early morning ritual after seeing the homeless lurking near her cans waiting.

Sure she was a Slacker but she also had empathy and her tough girl facade only partly true like so many things about her. She claimed to be mysterious but was only weird. Some believed she did drugs all the time and she let them because then they might have wanted her to try them but if she gave off a jaded appearance people didn't bother.

She stepped back inside and saw that Walt had already headed up to his bed in apartment L so she was alone with her Kitchen behind the counter.

She first pulled out her fruits and began their prep before rolling out the crust and filling her three pans and today she had made up her mind to just tope the crusts and lost to her side of whimsy and sculpted the tops as always after flicking on her Pie makers website that she hosted in private.

It being the time of year it was she began with a tribute to Lovecraft then next was something Insulting but finished with a more traditionaltop which she'd claim was because she had no imagination. Today's cookies were a tribute to a picture on her wall of Daisies which took her longer than simpler cookies but got her pesky Muse to quiet down

Walking outside Mandy Lights one up and looks up and down the drab old street her little prison sits on. Gone were the days when if she heard about something interesting going on in Alaska or South America she could just point her feet in that direction and go. She was a homeowner and business owner.

She looks at the old bench where some old bum named Tommy snored away

"So this is Paradise?"

A little while later

Mandy finished her morning bake as she wondered if the deputy up the street was asleep in his cruiser with the motor running?

She pictured the headlines

Officer sucums to Carbon Monoxide

It wasn't that she didn't like cops but anyone who slept in a running car was asking for it

Sunrise and a van arrives

Ruben a big Black guy who scares white people with a smile walks to the back of his van and opens it up as Mandy looks on.

"I got a deal for you today Mandy. I got top end organic strawberries, brandied pears to die for, Pumpkin, Pecans, top flour, Amish butter and lots more" he says in an excited Toneloc voice that should have been DJ at some top station than a delivery man for an upscale produce company

He soon loaded her a box of things along with flour, eggs, and milk which he wheeled into her kitchen and said he'd drop the fee if she'd make him a monster pie for his church raffle.

When he left Mandy put away the produce an milk then filled her Male Tears cup

Flipping on the sound system Mandy Indulges herself in some odd music videos beginning with

followed by

before she lets the system chose randomly her next songs

A Black limo pulled up just outside Slackers. A tall man, about 6'4, stepped out of the car, as the driver opened the door for him. He moved inside the coffee shop with a look of disgust at the place in general, and he normal wouldn't bother but he had something important to take care of. He moved inside and straight to the counter, "Hello, Miss, Who handles the Tenants above this Establishment?"
