So is "<Weapon> Mastery" the first skill you would pick up when practicing with a weapon? Is there an early stage skill like "Sword Novice?"

Can skills evolve into other skills, like what you see in some isekai/vrmmo
mangas?

It's just as @ERode said, you initially get <<Weapon>> Mastery Level 1 upon learning a weapon skill. The word "Mastery" doesn't necessarily mean you've mastered the weapon, it just means you've gained the ability to use that weapon, while the level indicates how well you've mastered it.

Yes, they do evolve eventually. It can either be caused by reaching a certain level or can be triggered by other skills. External factors like exposure to a certain environment can also be considered a cause of skill evolution. This will be introduced at a later part of the story though.

Also, please tell us when you have that list of weapon types done, Travesty.
