History/Personality:

Kukiko grew up far from the city, not that anyone today could tell. She comes from a beautiful little village that adapted to modern times while still retaining some older traditions. Her family, such as it is, were the caretakers for the Shinto shrine in the mountains for generations. With their modern lives, the Shrine was not as shiny and well maintained as it always have been, but it was still being taken care of.

Kukiko always had been different than the others, which was made even more apparent in such a small village. She care not as much for old traditions and the family business of caring for the Shrine, but she had to participate nonetheless. As she grew into her teenage years, the young woman adopted a 'gothic' look as a form of rebellion like so many teens do. Nevertheless, her parents and family accepted her as she was, attitude and all. She became quite recluse in the village and had only a few friends which she hang out with on seldom occasions. Kikuko would enjoy her solitude and especially painting, writing and taking photos of the rustic village and surrounding area. She became quite lazy, though, speaking only if necessary and sleeping a lot of the times. Then, when time came for Senior High school, her family accepted to send her to the city.

Now having lived in a dormitory in the city for about a year or two, it was hard to tell she came from a rural village. Kukiko still mostly enjoy her time on her own writing or painting or going around the city taking pictures of more urban topics as opposed to her old subjects of photography.

Other: Kukiko is lazy and would rather sleep most of the time instead of doing whatever. Especially instead of having to Hunt for dead people to put them to sleep.

Hunter Origins:

What others did not know was that Kukiko had also been approached by a Tsukumogami, much to her own dissatisfaction. Perhaps it had chose her due to her family close ties with the spirit world or perhaps not, but she was chosen nonetheless. A Jatai had approached her; a yokai that took the form of a sentient Obi belt and moved about like a snake. Quite possible a very old belt forgotten somewhere in the shrine, which was a pain. Even since then, Kukiko had been busy tending to the shrines and doing her Hunter duty around the village if need be, which wasn't much. Things got more hectic when she moved to the city, though...

Hunter Form:

Abilities:

As it stand out, Kukiko abilities are very straightforward but also versatile. They are in fact only one; Obi. When changed, Kukiko can summon forth exactly 2 Obi Sash from within her long gown. Those sash can be used as tendrils for attack, defense and even moving around to swing herself to a location. They are mid-range, however, and require her to generally get pretty close to an Onryo to seal it away. To seal away an Onryo, Kukiko will need to wrap it up completely with one of her Obi which will lay it to rest. The numbers of Sash she can use may increase with time and as she get used to this power.

Tsukumogami

Name: Obi
Item: Obi
Appearance: It's an Obi. It's basically a traditional belt/sash. Also, Obi is kind of a blend looking...well, Obi. Meaning that Kukiko can wear him in her everyday clothing and it passes as a sort of extra accessory item for her looks.

Personality: Obi is still pissed at Kukiko that she refused to give it a real name and just lazily called him 'Obi'. Other than that, he is quite energetic and constantly has to push his Hunter forward to do stuff and not just lay around all day.

Other: Will tighten around her waist when angry, prompting her to pull on it for Obi to stop. Often argue with Kukiko.

• Guardian Silk - Even while not being directly worn, Taiki's Koya-damashii is especially durable, able to effectively be used as a shield against all manner of attacks, and is especially poignant when guarding against painful curses; it is quite used to that treatment itself...
• Spiritual Aid - Though Taiki's Koya-damashii cannot manifest its full form while being used by him, it can still form its two heavyset, scaled arms, making for a extra set of very powerful hands, made all the more potent with its last, greatest ability for now, at least...
• The Weight Of Power - When Taiki fully wears his Koya-damashii, he finds his powers escalated sevenfold; stronger, faster, and even tougher than before! Even the defensive qualities of his Koya-damashii are enhanced, as are the arms it can manifest. However, this doesn't come without a cost...Just as in the past, the clothing that makes up his Tsukumogami was beaten endlessly to give it its coloration, he too must come to bear unspeakable pain and agony during this time, physically destroying his body and draining his life while he dons the heavy mantle of one with true strength....

Personality: Taiki really looks up to his sister, and tries his best to emulate her; her strength and brashness that others frown upon, he finds as great qualities of his dear sister. He even tries to act intimidating and tough, just like she is. However...For all his tough-guy posturing, Taiki is inherently compassionate and kind, practically to a fault. He's a natural helper, much as he spites that about himself. For as much as many would consider it his strongest trait, he thinks of it as a weakness, when all he wants is to be stronger for the person he loves...

Still, don't let kindness be mistaken with weakness. For all his softness, he's incredibly brave and always prepared to face something headfirst, no matter the consequences. It may be true he isn't as strong as his sister, and he may never be, but he'll be damned if he can't at least try!

History: Taiki and his sister Seika had what most would call a good childhood. Their family lived in one of the quieter spots of Agawa, and that fit the family just fine; they lived an honest, peaceful life, content and happy with one another, always smiling through rain or shine. There was always a bit of...Strangeness that seemed to surround the twins, but for some reason, whenever their mother was around, all those troubles never seemed to last long.

This happy story for the two of them ended abruptly, when they were around ten years of age. The both of them were patiently waiting for their parents to come pick them up from school...But that was not the case. It was only later that they discovered their parents had died in a freak car accident, much to their horror and fear.

Stranger still, it was then they discovered that apparently, they had extended family; something neither mom nor dad spoke of before. So since that tragic day, the pair were raised by their uncle, one Niko Himaru. At first, in spite of their horrible loss, things regained some semblance of normalcy for a time, though the twins couldn't help but notice how busy their uncle was, especially at night, doing things he never fully explained...

It was around their 14th birthday that things were explained to them...And that they were unceremoniously roped into the situation as well. As it turned out, uncle Niko had connections with the Yakuza, the infamous Japanese mafia. And even worse...It turned out that prior to his quiet life, their father had been a member as well. Bound by both necessity and force, Seika and Taiki were pushed into being fledgling members of the criminal organization.

This continued on for a few years, with them learning the ropes, occasionally smuggling goods or running shakedowns (though in Taiki's case, calling them 'shakedowns' is a stretch; he simply didn't have the heart for that sort of thing, and usually ended up giving money to the people he was supposed to be extorting), but always planning to leave this life behind, knowing it wasn't what their parents would've wanted. They found their chance at their 18th birthday, officially marking them as adults; they were quick to leave behind their uncle's home, and desperate for a place to lay low, they ended up begging the owner of a local antique store to let them stay for a short time, confident it would be the last place their people would look for them. They were correct, of course, but it led them down an even stranger path...

Over time in the store, inexplicably, the twins could tell that the shop owner had fallen dangerously ill from out of nowhere. Unfortunately, they both also had a good idea of who was at fault; themselves. Ever since they've had to live with their uncle, the minor misfortune that followed them in childhood seemed to grow and fester, to the point that even among the Yakuza they were dubbed The Misfortune Twins. The two wanted to help, but had no idea how, nor could they leave, for fear of their own safety...It was in this desperate duality that their Tsukumogami found them.

Taiki only knows his sister's story from her point of view, since apparently hers met her at night privately, too shy to introduce itself even among another potential Hunter. His, however, was a bit more...Direct. While helping around the store (since the owner was growing too weak to properly work), the young man practically found himself attacked by an article of clothing, as if it were trying to eat him. It made for....Interesting introductions. But after the initial excitement his Tsukumogami had from finally finding a proper Hunter, it introduced itself more formally, and explained the situation to Taiki. It definitely confused him, and he would've almost certainly had written it off if it weren't for his sister explaining a similar (if slightly less panic-inducing) meeting with one of these spirit objects. Thus, the two had become Hunters, and they were already being thrust into a situation, as only now were they truly aware of the situation...

The old man was being cursed to death.

Without much time to spare, the two performed their first proper (if you can call what happened in there proper...) exorcism, banishing the Onryo that had latched itself onto the old shopkeep. Overjoyed with his recovery, and inexplicably getting the sense that this troublesome duo he'd taken in had some part in it, he's agreed to watch over them and let them stay in the attic of the shop for as long as they need, much to the twins' relief.

...Now they just need to actually figure out the ins and outs of this 'Hunter' business.

• Both Taiki and Seika's birthdays are on June 21st.
• Taiki's favorite food is beef bowl ramen.
• His favorite dessert is dango skewers.
• Taiki is the taller of the twins, standing at 5'10.
• For his everyday life, he usually carries Kishin around by either folding him up and putting him away in a bag, or when he's in a hurry, tying him around his waist (which the Tsukumogami despises endlessly).

Personality: Kishin is stoic and serious, always speaking in a strict, yet surprisingly dramatic, nature. It also prides itself on its noble nature, though once it is fully donned, even with the incredible patience this spirit possesses, it cannot hold back the tide of violent, nigh animalistic tendencies that spill forth...

Other: While by their very nature Tsukumogami are old, Kishin is old by that standard, having seen many of its holders, both Hunter and no, come and go.

Woof! This took awhile, and it isn't what I originally had in mind, but here ya go! This is also a collaborative character with the one Kaya will eventually be posting, his twin sister Seika Himaru. Hopefully they'll both be acceptable :)

A Bleeding Heart Behind A Pillar Of Strength

Abilities:
Feline Intensification: The cat-like additions to her physical form allows for heightened sense which includes better reflexes/balance, quieter steps, enhances her sight in the dark, strengthens her sense of smell, and her new ears pick up sounds with more ease. Unfortunately, this also means that it can be extremely overwhelming in certain cases which will freeze her up and can cause more of a hindrance than a help. She is also more prone to getting distracted.

Furnace: She can spew fire from her mouth but is uncontrolled and untamed spray unless she uses a bamboo shoot to keep the aim steady and stream of fire (kinda like a blow dart in a sense). The effect only lasts as long as she isn’t inhaling and stops the moment she needs to breathe. She is trying to learn how to use fire in other ways or if it is even possible besides from her mouth.

Purrtection: Once the trivet is removed from the crown-like position on her head, it enlarges to become a shield to defend against attacks. It will return to its small size when removed from her hands or placed back upon her head. It is weaker against certain types of magics/attacks.

Personality: Seika is a very guarded individual, keeping most people at a distance with only a small portion of her gentle side showing through. Her best self being when she is around her twin, him bringing out the side of her that is buried between protective layers. The side that is outgoing and a bubble of positive energy, the one that is free to be weak and kind without a fear of being deceived. She can be a bit direct, coming off as rude and brash in her nature since she wants to get straight to the point, a bad habit she picked up in her time at the Yakuza. She is confident, having no problem marching to the beat of her own drum or standing up for what she believes in. Seika wishes she could have been more protective, caring and compassionate like her brother was openly to others during their Yakuza days (and still is) but she chose to be the buffer between her brother and her uncle as much as possible. The easiest way to do this was to do what she needed to do, even if that meant being silent, strong, polite, and also ruthless or unforgiving if asked. She is trying to be better about reaching out to others, protecting them and showing that she had done what she did, not because she was a bad person but because she saw no other way. She is still trying to forgive herself.

History:Seika and her brother Taiki had a wonderful childhood, growing up in one of the quieter spots in Agawa. A place home to one of the older shrines and a place that still held the belief in the spiritual, something that their mama had held onto during her own raising there. Their parents would tell them stories gathered from years ago, those of legends forgotten and of spirits in another world much like our own. It made the unexplained happenings that seemed to occur around the twins now and then make a lot more sense. Seika knew that she never had to fear though when she was at her mama’s side, it felt as if all those troubles went away. Seika hoped to be like her mama one day, the ray of sunshine in the darkest of storms, strong and capable but still as gently kind to those around her. She had wanted those days to go on forever, her family living the happy and peaceful life but sometimes things are just not meant to be.

When the twins were around ten years old, their world was shattered and they would both be changing to quite a different lifestyle. They had stood there, waiting as all the other kids were picked up, as the buses left, and the teachers started to head out with them still at the empty front of the school. A few teachers stopped to check on them and tried to call their parents with no answer. It was only later, after the police became involved that they found out the truth. Their parents hadn’t come because of a freak car accident on their way to pick them up. It was horrifying to learn and Seika feared for what that would mean for them. She was heartbroken, devastated beyond all comprehension but she didn’t shed a single tear, promising herself to stay strong for her brother. He was the only one she had left in her mind and she wouldn’t let herself break.

As luck would have it, they discovered that apparently, they had extended family; something neither mama nor papa spoke of before but at least saved them from having to go into the foster system where they might be split apart. Both twins couldn't help but notice how extremely busy their uncle was, especially at night, doing odd things he never fully explained and keeping them suspiciously in the dark. It was always an unexplained mystery that ate at her curiosity and any questions were smoothly evaded or a general answer that ultimately explained nothing. Seika just found it better not to ask and gave up on the whole endeavor of trying to figure out their new and cryptic uncle.

It was around their 14th birthday when the ultimate truth was revealed to them, a surprise neither of them had asked for and given a gift of an unfortunate situation. They were unceremoniously roped into the ‘family business’ and given no choice for the path they were now forced to follow. She hated what she was doing and who she was becoming but her brother and their plan to leave this life behind were what kept her going. Knowing very well that this wasn't what their parents would've wanted for either of them. They found their chance on the day of their 18th birthday, officially marking them as adults; they were quick to leave behind their uncle's home, and desperate for a place to lay low, they ended up begging the owner of a local antique store to let them stay for a short time, confident it would be the last place their people would look for them. It was in this desperate duality that their Tsukumogami found them.

Taiki's story was much different from her own, having a bit more of an…excitable first encounter. Her introduction was much more of an amicable greeting between potential Hunter and Tsukumogami. It happened in the dead of night, as she had wandered down to have a cup of tea since she was having trouble sleeping. Seika had quietly pulled out a cup, preparing all the steeping materials before filling a kettle with water and moving to the small hot plate to heat it up only to find it was already on. She cautiously set the kettle down, looking around nervously on edge. She knew it wasn’t her brother and there was no way that it had been on the whole evening. The shopkeeper wasn’t in the greatest of shape and had leaned on them to help out beyond just the shop. She didn’t remember them using it as they had gotten takeout so who was here? Was this a glitch? Seika confidently pulled a knife from the drawer, giving a threat out into the open darkness but what responded back had her instantly dropping her weapon. The small catlike creature pleaded for mercy (even though it couldn’t hurt him), scared and peaking out from its hiding spot. He introduced himself, explaining why he had appeared before her, the reasons he had chosen her, the purpose ahead of her and hinting at a dire situation that Seika was unknowingly in.

The next morning she had convinced herself it was a dream, that there was no way that all that had happened the night before had been real. Sure, she saw the trivet and debated with herself, a small voice telling her that this couldn’t be ignored or explained away when it made so much sense. She had told Taiki everything that had happened later that day knowing that he would believe her, help her make sense of all this when come to find out he had been in a similar situation as well.

Thus, the two had become Hunters, and they were already being thrust into a dangerous situation, as only now were they truly aware of the situation that was presented thanks to the help of Taiki’s tsukumogami...

• When choosing dessert, she will alway choose something that has mochi, not caring if it is plain, sweet filing, or ice cream
• She usually hides her Tsukumogami in a bag or anywhere out of sight since he is nervous around others.

Personality: He is the definition of a scaredy cat. A nervous and cautious mess that is very much about self preservation while being a touch on the self absorbed side. He is shy and reserved around a group of people, preferring to stay hidden but don’t let that fool you. He can be stubborn and has a fiery personality when speaking of passionate things or when in a bit of a temper tantrum.

Other: His nature makes him a bit of a fire starter, loving to light fireplaces, flick candles on, and heat up ovens which can at times be dangerous which means Seika constantly checks for these things. He doesn’t mean anything by it, just trying to be helpful which is actually very unhelpful.

Abilities: Aside from his enhanced physical abilities, he has those tied to his Tsukumogami. Archer's Spirit --- He summons and shoots arrows that can either:
1. Explode into bright, cleansing energy that can throw onryo off of balance,
2. Fly with an extremely durable rope to a target that he can use to pull in one other attached object/person back to wrap around the arrow-- aka to the onryo it's attached to.
3. More to come, hopefully!

Personality: Yuma wishes that he had a more 'explosive' character. He is quite stern and caring, confident to the point of stubbornness in his ability to do the right thing. However, his rigid standards keep him from taking risks. Yuma's quite a coward when it comes to standing up for himself compared to others. To this day he's desperate to stop fearing his father's judgment. Yuma is the star student of his grade with not a bad thing to say about. It's as it should be, since he has almost crippling anxiety and perfectionism about it. Yuma is someone who, like his father, is happy when making other people happy. Honestly, he doesn't know how to let someone else take control. No one has ever questioned it though, most let him be in his comfortable space of the leader of the friend group, the mom friend of the bunch. Deep down he's a romantic but he does not get his hopes up while he lives with his parents--- what if they don't accept he only likes men?

History: Yuma knows this city like back of his hand. Eventually, he started avoiding certain streets due to strange noises, and whenever he tried to leave the city there has always been an ill-timed cold or even accidents....

He's the youngest child of the Chief of Police in Agawa. But his baby sister is one, so she's not too much fun to hang out with. Yuma grew up not quite in the public eye-- despite how big his title was, the family weren't celebrities. They had a very nice house by the beach. He has plenty of memories when his mom was healthy yes-- but there were even more memories of when she couldn't help take care of him more after a car accident in a family vacation. He spent time with her during physical therapy to help motivate her-- but at other times he would be with his grandmother. The Gojo family is deeply rooted in this town, his dad jokes that they never get the chance to leave because it's destiny.

Well, as he grew older, his mom got stronger, though his character was already instilled with a strong sense of responsibility. All the pressure to succeed as a kid used to feel more loving. All these things he did used to be a lot more fun. He doesn't remember what it was like to swim for fun and not to break or time or burn a certain number of calories. It all made his parents so proud of him.

There came the Archery Club incident. It was when all of his teammates started to come down with stomach bugs-- he went in to clean the range in case something had spread over the lockers or benches. Yuma doesn't even know how it got in there, but there were some historical objects on display related to archery, and in a box near them was a very old-fashioned quiver. It and its booming voice practically shook the entire building. Yuma wouldn't take it up on its offer at first until it was revealed that he would probably never leave this city in peace due to the onryo that kept popping up to ruin his journey. It was a stupid, heat-of-the-moment decision. Stupid because he never took the time to consider, maybe this thing is lying to him?

Abilities: When transformed, Kabi unfurls into a serpentine dragon that slithers through the air at Naoto's behest.

• Smells Like Quaran-teen-ed Spirit - Naoto and Kabi are both capable of emitting a pungent, mildewy odor that saps away at the strength of nearby onryo, which Kabi can exacerbate by constricting them in his tattered body. Unfortunately, the smell's not very pleasant for anyone else either.
• The Dragon Feasts - Kabi can draw corruption into his draconic maw like a whale feeding on krill, where he then cleanses it within his body.
• Breath of the Great Dragon - Though not very glamorous, Naoto can emit jets of dirty dishwater that eat away at corrupted energies far more efficiently than his noxious odor does.

Personality: Energetic and scatterbrained to a fault, it's hard to keep Naoto's attention on anything for very long before his brain bounces off in another direction. In Naoto's worldview, a moment enjoyed is never a moment wasted, and the most dreadful state of being he can fathom is boredom. (What the hell is 80 HD and why do people say he has it? He's not a TV.) His parents would say he neglects to apply himself to anything, that he flits around toward whatever stimuli happen to catch his attention at the moment before dropping them entirely and moving on to something else. This is fairly accurate, much to his denial. (How's he supposed to focus on boring stuff all day anyway?) He pours his restless energy into everything he does, and expects everyone else to keep up, even when his attention span lapses and he's on to the next distraction.

History: The Harukazes have historically been very involved in the local shrine, and the current family is no exception; Naoto's mother was a shrine maiden in her youth and his father is a respected shinshoku. Naturally, they expected their children to continue this legacy. Naoto's older sister took to it wonderfully, the pride of their family and a spitting image of her mother as she tended to the shrine. Naoto himself was less than impressive. He never could seem to pay attention to his father's teachings and the rituals slipped his mind faster than he could learn them. As far as he was concerned, he just wasn't cut out to be a priest. Though as he grew older, the weight of his family's expectations mounted. Generation after generation of shrine tenders, only to be sullied by his laziness - or at least that's how his parents saw it. His mother in particular made it her mission to remind Naoto of this. Why couldn't he be more like his sister? She was dancing kagura and assisting in festivals at his age, but he could barely sit still long enough for a tea ceremony.

What started as simple ineptitude became willful disobedience. Naoto wanted nothing to do with that shrine. Whatever duties he was given, he'd rush through as fast as possible, just to get them over with. Eventually, his parents relegated him only to simple chores around the shrine, impatient as he was for the nuances of ritual and ceremony, while his sister was lavished with praise since somebody had to carry on the family name. Naoto wouldn't have minded if it didn't include constant reminders of what he should be doing and how disappointing of a son he was. As if the kami themselves were disappointed in him too, strange misfortune began following Naoto in his late teens. Nothing explicit enough to cause alarm, but it seemed like the more he denied his heritage, the worse his string of bad luck got. He was pretty sure he hadn't gotten a positive fortune on New Years in, well, years.

Naoto would've been content to leave it at that, had he not been (un)lucky enough to be assigned the envious task of cleaning out an old storage shed just off the shrine grounds. What should've been a banal, torturous task for the boy became instantly interesting when he toppled over a trunk of old linens and a voice of all things emerged from it. An old rag, tattered and mildewed to the point that it should've been thrown away, slithered out of the pile of fabric like a snake, rejoicing in the fact that a gifted individual had finally graced the shrine again and lamenting how foolish it was to not have an exorcist on hand for generations. The sudden contrast of himself being called a gifted exorcist while this serpentine towel dismissed his family as unfit to manage the shrine was so jarring that it halted whatever urge Naoto had to run away, and he found himself entranced by the creature's words. He wanted to know more. He wanted to be called special again. He wanted to run outside and rub the towel snake's words in his mother's face.

Unfortunately for Naoto, the praise did not last long. Kabi - as the rag introduced itself - found Naoto's incessant questioning while he explained the reality of the supernatural grating, and what started as a wise teacher imparting wisdom on a student quickly became a tyrant barking orders at his newest soldier. The green-haired boy was hardly the hunter Kabi had hoped for during his long slumber, but he was yet young and thus malleable.

Naoto's first foray into limbo was at the behest of a demanding taskmaster, and he feared that his new 'sacred duty' would quickly become as much of an unpleasant shadow looming over him as his old one. Only the novelty of the situation kept him distracted from that uncomfortable truth. (He kinda wanted to see what a ghost looked like now that he knew they were real.) The thought perished as soon as Naoto loosed his new pet dragon on the hunched over figure that hissed at his approach. He knew at once, this was his purpose. Kabi said he was born for it - something he'd heard before - but as the last of the spirit's lingering essence faded, Naoto found success where his parents' expectations had been met only with failure. He emerged back into the real world Kabi's dutiful disciple, eager to grow as a hunter. Or at least as dutiful as his attention span allowed, much to Kabi's chagrin.

Tsukumogami

Name: Kabi

Personality: The August and Most Puissant Kabi-sama considers himself a noble dragon of regal bearing, and expects reverence befitting his station. This would be a bit more convincing if he wasn't a smelly towel. To make matters worse, His Celestial Majesty must occupy his time babysitting his hunter, lest the poor fool wander off in the middle of his duty most sacred. Kabi usually comes off as a crotchety old man and tends to nag a lot, especially to Naoto, though his ire can be assuaged by feeding his ego. For all his pomp, Kabi takes his duty very seriously, and once an onryo catches his notice, he will entertain no distractions - for himself or Naoto - until it has been cleansed.

Other: Though Kabi finds Naoto lacking compared to the hunter he'd bonded with in the past, he learned very quickly, in all his wisdom and splendor, that verbally measuring the boy unfavorably to them was a quick way to lose his attention, and thus politely refrains from such comparisons.

Anime: World Trigger (Best combat in shounen, hands down)

Hmm so we have more people than I originally planned, it'll take some extra effort on my part to keep things manageable, but I'm happy to do that. After Wayward and Strawberry post their characters though, I'll probably close applications.
