I've started writing a short story centered around an Army platoon's three day weekend, based on the experiences of myself and others. I think I just ended up calling it "The 72."

PFC Snuffy plays sangria pong and makes out with a business student who tastes vaguely like wine and cheap lipstick. SPC Shmuckatelli stands duty, browsing Facebook and watching his friends' Snapchat stories wishing he could be out partying. LT FNG gets a call from the police at three in the morning to pick a guy up from jail. A few more Specialists are on restriction and having Nerf gun fights in the barracks. And who could forget the infamous safety briefs and recall formations?

Basically, shit gets deep while you're on pass with the wolfpack.

Yeah, this and that are linked directly to the Wiki map which has been resizing these to thumbnail size. Even though it insists the images are over a thousand pixels wide it bumps them both down to thumbnails.

Now since we're coming across another anniversary Vilage suggested that I shill out to commission some PoW artwerk. The question is: what is the topic/focus of it?

Have you done any Battle of Djibouti artwork yet? I'd like to see some of that dope aerial combat come to life, yo.

It'll all depend on how much something like this costs, since I would wager none of us are wealthy folk. Once you find an affordable artist, you find out exactly what they do.

But I do agree that scenes would be better than portraits, since Aaron does a lot of portraits already. What would be really sweet is if we can do some sort of mix of several scenes, but that might be too grandiose.

Well, Angus McLeod is the only one that comes to mind right now. DA's lack of producing a list of people I'm following is making it really difficult to comb through the people I follow. But here's a few of his things:




He's also the one that did anthropomorphic nation WW1 comics a long time ago which were funny. But he broke away from doing strictly WW1/WW2 shit.

From all the ded accounts or those who aren't explicitly doing commissions there are maybe two who are doing them to some extent. Angus, and a pone artist (who I know can do people). The issue is with the later that commission prices to do something like what we'd be looking for would cost upwards of four-hundred dollars.

And I love PoW but I'm not shilling out a hundred bucks for it.

If I were to go through other channels then we would be getting in touch with amateur porn artists who would otherwise probably only do single-character pieces in a sort of factory-ready art style but only for under twenty-dollars. But I doubt they have the skills to pull of something is enormous as Djibouti.

I guess shop around when you can, see if there is somebody more reasonable.

In the mean time, I think we should list of some of the iconic besides Djibouti that could be arted so we can have everyone weigh in at least. Not including the shit Aaron or somebody else has already covered of course.

Some other possibilities.

1: Viktor and Juhani anything. Seriously, the importance of that story line in the development of what PoW became should not be understated.
2: Canadian beach landing in Cali. Not a serious scene, but still fucking iconic.
3: Assassination of Tejero. Big scene, fairly momentous.
4: Battle of Milan. Probably the most enjoyable pre-Spanish-Ethiopian War battle in the entire RP.
5: Though the big China scenes are pretty well covered by Aaron's art, the general ambience of the Chinese Opera captures a lot of China in one swath, in terms of setting and important characters.
6: To me, Spain's iconic image is wealthy people and politicians partying on zeppelins above Madrid.
7: Sevan. I might be partial to Sevan because I spent so much time writing there, but I think it deserves a little art.
8: I don't even know if this is canon anymore, but as it strange as it sounds, the Spanish and American battle during the blockade of Boston is iconic to PoW for me. An African agent watching from a telephone booth as Spanish and American ships duke it out in the distance, and a New English freighter chugs forward full of near-privateers... I dunno, I think that is a great symbol of early MCF precipice really.
